:09:01. > :09:03.an incredible room of talented and also vary in different styles of

:09:04. > :09:06.music this evening. Let's enjoy something new from Manchester. We

:09:07. > :09:22.welcome Spring King! # Searching for a world in which I'd

:09:23. > :09:29.feel fine # And now I'm looking

:09:30. > :09:37.for how you felt, you felt # Won't let go, tonight, of your

:10:04. > :10:06.it is that you threw # What you have is something you

:10:07. > :10:16.better keep # What you are is more than you

:10:17. > :10:19.think, you think, you think # What you have is something that

:10:20. > :10:22.you better keep # What you are is

:10:23. > :10:33.more than you think # Won't let go, tonight, of your

:10:34. > :10:42.hand # Searching for a world in which I'd

:10:43. > :11:08.feel fine # Only you can do what it is

:11:09. > :11:14.that you feel you feel # Only you can do what it is

:11:15. > :11:20.that you feel you feel # Won't let go, tonight, of your

:11:24. > :11:33.hand # Won't let go, tonight, of your

:11:34. > :11:43.hand # Won't let go, tonight, of your

:11:44. > :12:22.hand Spring King! Tell me if you liked

:12:23. > :12:26.it. In this corner, I suppose our next guest is one of the greatest

:12:27. > :12:33.geniuses of popular music of our time. We are pleased as at the piano

:12:34. > :12:41.Sir Elton John! -- we are pleased to have. Now, we've got this excellent

:12:42. > :12:46.new record out, some beautiful things, great songs. I've been

:12:47. > :12:51.listening a lot. I believe it is your 33rd record. I think so. It's a

:12:52. > :12:57.lot of studio records, but I'm very old. There are older people here,

:12:58. > :13:03.actually. I will introduce you. Again, it's with Bernie Taupin. You

:13:04. > :13:08.always work with Bernie. I would be interested to know how that works.

:13:09. > :13:14.How does it work? From the word go when we started writing together,

:13:15. > :13:19.which will be 50 years next year... CHEERING

:13:20. > :13:23.He gives me a lyric of a page. Originally it was handwritten and

:13:24. > :13:28.then it was tight and now it is e-mailed. I go away into another

:13:29. > :13:33.room and I write the melody and the song and I come back and to him. We

:13:34. > :13:39.have never been in the same room. Are you in the same building?

:13:40. > :13:46.Sometimes. I love coming back and playing in what I've done to see if

:13:47. > :13:51.he likes it. Has he ever not liked it? He must have been unhappy couple

:13:52. > :13:55.of times but he's never shown it. We have never really argued which is

:13:56. > :14:00.probably why we have lasted 50 years. We don't tread on each

:14:01. > :14:09.other's toes. There is a song on here about a preacher, great poem.

:14:10. > :14:15.It's called I've Got Two Wings. It's about a black preacher from the

:14:16. > :14:18.1950s who put on a pair of angel wings had a Les Paul guitar and an

:14:19. > :14:24.amplifier and he went into the southern churches in America and

:14:25. > :14:29.sometimes tents and he played the blues and kind of gospel guitar. He

:14:30. > :14:33.was the first person to plug an electric guitar into a church. I

:14:34. > :14:38.thought Bernie made it up but it is true. It's a wonderful story. Bernie

:14:39. > :14:43.does come up with great stories. Data on, we will be enjoying some of

:14:44. > :14:49.your early music. You will be playing something from Tumbleweed

:14:50. > :14:55.Connection. It's one of the adverse outcomes I bought. I have still got

:14:56. > :15:00.a scratched copy, a vinyl record. -- it is one of the first record I

:15:01. > :15:06.bought. I don't listen to Mike records that much. When I go back

:15:07. > :15:09.and here it sometimes on the radio, I get pleasantly surprised and

:15:10. > :15:19.think, that wasn't bad. But I don't really look back. I don't reminisce.

:15:20. > :15:23.Looking forward. Yes. You keep up with new music. Every time I meet

:15:24. > :15:29.you, you always have something new, a new take on things. I like new

:15:30. > :15:34.music because you get so much energy from the young. There is so little

:15:35. > :15:39.exposure these days for bands and artists. I have a radio show on my

:15:40. > :15:42.own and I try and play as much new stuff as I can and I listen and I

:15:43. > :15:50.get inspired by the youth. It's something I love. Any particular

:15:51. > :16:00.people in this last few weeks? There is a girl called Rosie macro low who

:16:01. > :16:03.I love. There is a girl from Sweden. Christine and the Queens? They are

:16:04. > :16:09.my favourite band at the moment. I rang her up and told her how

:16:10. > :16:14.fabulous record is. She is very shy and she was on this show a couple of

:16:15. > :16:20.weeks ago. I went to see her at the Roundhouse last week. Amazing, how

:16:21. > :16:24.pop music could sound in 2016. You can't come here without going down

:16:25. > :16:29.the time tunnel. Lots of people have covered songs of yours, but this

:16:30. > :16:35.one, I know, was covered by Rick Wakeman and others. For we see this,

:16:36. > :16:42.is there a couple of yours that you particularly love? Rocket Man by

:16:43. > :16:56.Kate bush, Sacrifice by Sinead O'Connor. This is you. Oh, yes.

:16:57. > :17:08.# Hold that music, I've been removed # I've seen the spectre

:17:09. > :17:15.# He has been here to # Distant coming from down the line

:17:16. > :17:22.# Round-up people who ain't my kind # Oh, man, Moses

:17:23. > :17:33.# I've been removed. #

:17:34. > :17:37.And, of course, Aretha Franklin singing that song. Which it covered

:17:38. > :17:42.that I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Later you will be playing

:17:43. > :17:49.a song from your new album. What have you picked? It is an up-tempo

:17:50. > :17:54.album and I have picked the ballot. I don't have my band with me and it

:17:55. > :17:59.would be hard to replicate. I have chosen a song called A Good Heart.

:18:00. > :18:02.It is a great privilege and an honour to have you here this

:18:03. > :18:04.evening. Thank you very much, the wonderful Elton John.

:18:05. > :18:14.APPLAUSE And now, our next artist is a huge

:18:15. > :18:21.success in Canada where she is from. She is Basia Bulat.

:18:22. > :18:33.# How many times can I run to defy it?

:18:34. > :18:39.# Into the arms of your, your goodbye, your long goodbye

:18:40. > :18:44.# When I'm in love, nobody else for me to blame

:18:45. > :19:14.# Into the arms of your, your goodbye, your long goodbye

:19:15. > :19:19.# And when I hear your farewell in my mind

:19:20. > :19:25.# Play it again and again, then rewind

:19:26. > :19:31.# How many times can I try to deny it?

:19:32. > :19:42.# The way you love, even your enemy has a price

:19:43. > :20:12.# Into the arms of your, your goodbye, now say goodbye

:20:13. > :20:46.# Have I been waiting my whole life for this?

:20:47. > :20:51.# When I'm in love, nobody else for me to blame

:20:52. > :21:10.# Into the arms of your, your goodbye, your long goodbye

:21:11. > :21:43.# Into the arms of your, your goodbye, your long goodbye

:21:44. > :23:19.# It's all yours and yours and yours alone

:23:20. > :23:21.# Yours for the taking, so take it home

:23:22. > :23:40.# Just a soulful warm and tender love

:23:41. > :23:54.# Oh it's a good heart from me to you

:23:55. > :24:06.# But him and me, we pulled on through

:24:07. > :24:12.# I've seen 'em come, I've seen 'em go

:24:13. > :24:26.# So take a chance and take your time

:24:27. > :25:00.# Just a soul full all men tend to love

:25:01. > :25:37.# Oh it's a good heart from me to you

:25:38. > :25:50.# Just a soul full all men tend to love

:25:51. > :26:04.# Oh it's a good heart from me to you

:26:05. > :27:17.Sir Elton John, A Good Heart. From his wonderful LP. Before that,

:27:18. > :27:20.we very much enjoyed Basia Bulat. Now, more wonderful contrasts.

:27:21. > :27:25.Returning from their recent triumphant string of incredible

:27:26. > :27:27.dates. There are more dates you can see them at, I think. We welcome

:27:28. > :31:42.Kronos Quartet. # Very soon your world

:31:43. > :32:16.could be different # But you've got your mind set

:32:17. > :32:24.on silence, silence, silence # The skies will break

:32:25. > :32:31.for you, my friend # The waves will part,

:32:32. > :32:35.the seas will rend # The skies will break

:32:36. > :32:43.for you, my friend # It feels like

:32:44. > :33:24.they'll drown you out # Don't let your mind rest

:33:25. > :33:39.on violence, violence, violence # Oh, the skies will

:33:40. > :33:43.break for you, my friend # The skies will break

:33:44. > :33:47.for you, my friend # The waves will part,

:33:48. > :33:50.the seas will rend # The skies will break

:33:51. > :33:58.for you, my friend # Oh, the skies will break

:33:59. > :34:59.for you, my friend # The waves will part,

:35:00. > :35:01.the seas will rend # The skies will break

:35:02. > :36:52.for you, my friend Corinne Bailey Rae, The Skies Will

:36:53. > :36:55.Break. From Spring King -- The Heart Speaks In Whispers, her new album.

:36:56. > :37:05.Before that, we enjoyed the Kronos Quartet. Now, going to this corner,

:37:06. > :37:29.changing the vibrations once again, and welcoming Bloc Party.

:37:30. > :38:19.# Where the tall grass grows and grows

:38:20. > :38:26.# And let me wait until my saviour comes home

:38:27. > :38:47.# For only he can heal me with his touch

:38:48. > :39:14.# From the lame and from the wretched

:39:15. > :39:53.# For only he can heal me with his touch

:39:54. > :41:25.Bloc Party, from their album Hymns. We are very fortunate to have the

:41:26. > :41:29.amazing, amazingly, incredibly talented Sir Elton John with us.

:41:30. > :41:37.He's going to perform now a song from the wonderful 1970 album

:41:38. > :41:40.Tumbleweed Connection. Please big it up in the biggest possible way for

:41:41. > :41:52.Sir Elton John. # In the quiet silent seconds

:41:53. > :41:58.I turned off the light switch # And I came down to meet

:41:59. > :42:05.you in the half light the moon left # While a cluster of night jars sang

:42:06. > :42:13.some songs out of tune # A mantle of bright light

:42:14. > :42:21.shone down from a room # Come down in time,

:42:22. > :42:29.I still hear her say # So clear in my ear

:42:30. > :42:36.like it was today # Come down in time,

:42:37. > :42:43.was the message she gave # Come down in time

:42:44. > :43:08.and I'll meet you half way # Well, I don't know if I should

:43:09. > :43:13.have heard her as yet # But a true love like

:43:14. > :43:20.hers is a hard love to get # And I've walked most all the way

:43:21. > :43:27.and I ain't heard her call # And I'm getting to thinking

:43:28. > :43:34.if she's coming at all # Come down in time,

:43:35. > :43:42.I still hear her say # So clear in my ear

:43:43. > :43:49.like it was today # Come down in time,

:43:50. > :43:56.was the message she gave # Come down in time

:43:57. > :44:21.and I'll meet you half way # There are women and women

:44:22. > :44:29.and some hold you tight # While some leave you counting

:44:30. > :44:43.the stars in the night. # Saw the pictures, read

:44:44. > :45:04.all your darkest thoughts # While you were waitin',

:45:05. > :45:09.ready to brush me off # We could be friendly,

:45:10. > :45:16.we could be out of touch # We could be famous

:45:17. > :45:22.or even infamous # Come back or don't

:45:23. > :45:29.but turn me down # Don't waste my time pretending

:45:30. > :45:35.love is somewhere else # Stop wasting time pretending

:45:36. > :45:58.love is somewhere else # Should have been easy,

:45:59. > :46:03.but how can I close my eyes? # You have new friends

:46:04. > :46:09.now, I didn't recognize # For every time you'd

:46:10. > :46:15.say, I ask for too much # You spend another day

:46:16. > :46:21.tryin' to be infamous # Come back or don't

:46:22. > :46:29.but turn me down # Don't waste my time pretending

:46:30. > :46:35.love is somewhere else # Don't waste my time pretending

:46:36. > :46:49.love is somewhere else # Come back or don't

:46:50. > :47:32.but turn me down # Don't waste my time pretending

:47:33. > :47:32.love is somewhere else # Don't waste my time

:47:33. > :48:48.pretending at all Thank you, Basia Bulat, Infamous.

:48:49. > :48:57.Before that, we enjoyed Sir Elton John. Now, let's have a momentary

:48:58. > :49:01.pause and enjoy at the piano for a little chat and perhaps a song,

:49:02. > :49:10.Corinne Bailey Rae. Welcome to the show. Lovely to see you. This lovely

:49:11. > :49:16.record. You wrote and recorded both in Leeds and LA. Those two places.

:49:17. > :49:21.Was there much of a contrast between the two? Yes, a massive contrast. I

:49:22. > :49:26.love Leeds, how rainy and ten cities, and how you can lock your

:49:27. > :49:29.self away into the studio. But we wanted to move the bubble and go

:49:30. > :49:36.somewhere where there was sunshine and get to some amazing musicians in

:49:37. > :49:41.Los Angeles. Who have you got on it? Marcus Miller. All of the great bass

:49:42. > :49:47.players. And an amazing drummer who played with Bill Withers and Marvin

:49:48. > :49:52.Gaye. And a great band from LA called King. And the title, the

:49:53. > :49:57.heart that speaks in whispers. Where does that come from? The album is

:49:58. > :50:02.all about listening to the inner voice and quieting down what goes on

:50:03. > :50:08.inside, about instinct and the subconscious and dreams and nature.

:50:09. > :50:14.The record has the quality of a Stevie wonder record. I am a fan of

:50:15. > :50:20.his. RU? I am a massive Stevie wonder fan. You are going to do a

:50:21. > :50:25.show with him? Yes, in Hyde Park. Pharrell Williams is performing, we

:50:26. > :50:30.are playing as well, so I am looking forward to that. Could we do some

:50:31. > :50:41.Stevie thing? Let's give it a go. Why not?

:50:42. > :50:53.# Good morning or evening, friends # Here's your friendly announcer

:50:54. > :51:03.# I have a serious news to pass on to everyone

:51:04. > :51:10.# What I'm about to say # Could mean the world's disaster

:51:11. > :51:24.# Could turn the joy and laughter # Into tears and pain

:51:25. > :51:35.# Love is in need of love today # Don't delay, send yours in white

:51:36. > :51:46.away # Hate is going around breaking many

:51:47. > :51:49.hearts # Stop this please, before we've

:51:50. > :51:59.gone too far # Don't you know love's in need of

:52:00. > :52:07.love today # Don't delay, send yours in right

:52:08. > :52:21.away # Don't you know that hate's going

:52:22. > :52:22.round breaking many hearts # Stop this, please, before we've

:52:23. > :53:03.gone too far What a delightful moment of

:53:04. > :53:05.sweetness from Corinne Bailey Rae, you can see with Stevie wonder in

:53:06. > :53:11.the summer. I would like to invite you to step

:53:12. > :53:17.back this way. What beautiful backing harmonies they were,

:53:18. > :53:22.exquisite lovely notes, everyone. Sometimes in showbiz, it's a sign of

:53:23. > :53:26.showbiz the public don't usually see. Normally, the piano would be

:53:27. > :53:30.whisked away, or the camera would go somewhere else, but this evening it

:53:31. > :53:36.can't be quite as simple because the piano is sort of in the way. You

:53:37. > :53:42.fellows do work here, don't you? I will take that as a yes. There it

:53:43. > :53:46.is, beautifully whisked away. Do you have that often, Elton, people

:53:47. > :53:49.whisking the piano away? So now we are all clear, and we can welcome

:53:50. > :53:59.Spring King. # I'll give you my struggles then

:54:00. > :54:04.I'll get out of sight # I'm on a mission killing my

:54:05. > :54:08.troubles and I'm losing my mind # Yeah, I'm breaking

:54:09. > :54:10.away from this town # Yeah, I'm leaving this

:54:11. > :54:13.town, leaving this town # No, I'm not the same person that

:54:14. > :54:19.you met when you were around # I'm not a hero, not

:54:20. > :54:30.a hero in your mind # Fire in your eyes,

:54:31. > :54:33.fire in your way # What is it you say,

:54:34. > :54:39.what is it you say? # Pushing and pulling,

:54:40. > :54:54.pushing and pulling # Yeah, I'm breaking

:54:55. > :55:01.away from this town # Yeah, I'm leaving this

:55:02. > :55:03.town, leaving this town # No, I'm not the same person that

:55:04. > :55:09.you met when you were around # I'm not a hero, not

:55:10. > :55:20.a hero in your eyes # Fire in your eyes,

:55:21. > :55:24.fire in your way # Fire in your eyes,

:55:25. > :56:05.fire in your way # Fire in your eyes,

:56:06. > :56:25.fire in your way # If you let them go,

:56:26. > :56:35.if you let them leave # Lord, give me grace

:56:36. > :57:31.and dancing feet # And let our laughter

:57:32. > :01:34.now ring forth Thank you, Bloc Party. Thank you for

:01:35. > :01:41.joining us. We will be back next week with Iggy pop and much more.

:01:42. > :01:46.Thank you to all our amazing guests. Corinne Bailey Rae, Kronos Quartet,

:01:47. > :01:49.Basia Bulat, Spring King, Bloc Party and of course Sir Elton John. Let's

:01:50. > :02:29.get it going circular, if we made. I've got a track, actually,

:02:30. > :02:31.stuck in me head. I heard it on Charlie Sloth.

:02:32. > :02:35.Oh, yeah? Going to be massive. It's gonna pop? Yeah.

:02:36. > :02:39.What, "pop!"? Yeah.
