0:18:48 > 0:18:50and to try to dazzle each other, you know,
0:18:50 > 0:18:53in the hopes that you could dazzle someone else later on.
0:18:53 > 0:18:55Joshua Tree is in what they call the high desert,
0:18:55 > 0:19:00- so you're almost a mile up.- Yeah. - Two thirds of a mile. 3,000 feet.
0:19:00 > 0:19:02- Could you breathe?- I can't.
0:19:02 > 0:19:05- It's like Clint Eastwood country. - Yes, nice, yeah, yeah, yeah.
0:19:05 > 0:19:07But in that situation,
0:19:07 > 0:19:09the environment really helps to dictate what you're doing,
0:19:09 > 0:19:12because it's so sparse, there's so few people.
0:19:12 > 0:19:14There were about ten of us behind it,
0:19:14 > 0:19:17when you counted Tex and Hutch and the...
0:19:17 > 0:19:20There were lots of beards and balls
0:19:20 > 0:19:23and... You know, it was...
0:19:23 > 0:19:24And bearded balls.
0:19:25 > 0:19:28- It was a certain feel, you know?- Yeah, yeah.
0:19:28 > 0:19:30Now, you've been play live together
0:19:30 > 0:19:31and you've been playing live on your own.
0:19:31 > 0:19:34Do you all have fun when you've been touring? Has it been a frenzy?
0:19:34 > 0:19:36- Yes.- Jools, what do you think, babe?
0:19:36 > 0:19:37I think it would have been.
0:19:37 > 0:19:42- Yeah, I mean... I'd like to speak for us, if that's OK?- Sure, sure.
0:19:42 > 0:19:43We enjoy each other's company.
0:19:45 > 0:19:47Yeah.
0:19:47 > 0:19:50God, that was a long pause, actually.
0:19:51 > 0:19:52No, no.
0:19:52 > 0:19:54We've had a wonderful time
0:19:54 > 0:19:57and, actually, to our part, this is the last time
0:19:57 > 0:19:58we'll be playing together,
0:19:58 > 0:20:01and so I'm really glad it's here.
0:20:01 > 0:20:03Yeah. And you're off touring,
0:20:03 > 0:20:06and you'll be doing lots of old and new material...
0:20:06 > 0:20:08Both, everything, yes.
0:20:08 > 0:20:11But also, and I would like to ask you, if it's not too difficult,
0:20:11 > 0:20:12you'll be doing China Girl
0:20:12 > 0:20:14which, of course, you wrote with David Bowie,
0:20:14 > 0:20:16who we've very sadly lost,
0:20:16 > 0:20:21but for you, what was the thing that you think sums up why he was great?
0:20:29 > 0:20:32- You want one?- No, you can have as many as you like.
0:20:37 > 0:20:42He was willing to go against the grain
0:20:42 > 0:20:44that was set up when he started.
0:20:44 > 0:20:47- Mm.- That was the big thing.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50I mean, he wasn't going to be the Beatles.
0:20:50 > 0:20:52He wasn't going to be the Stones.
0:20:52 > 0:20:55And it wasn't going to be, sort of easy...
0:20:55 > 0:20:58He was going to do something different
0:20:58 > 0:21:04and then there's his skills to stick with that,
0:21:04 > 0:21:06and I don't...
0:21:06 > 0:21:09I don't think, it's not my impression anyway,
0:21:09 > 0:21:14that he really favoured one branch of the arts over another.
0:21:14 > 0:21:19The guy was... I would say he was an artist who happened to be in music.
0:21:19 > 0:21:22- Mm. That's a very great way of looking at it.- All right.
0:21:22 > 0:21:24I think that gets a round of applause, actually...
0:21:24 > 0:21:26APPLAUSE
0:21:27 > 0:21:30Now, we've got... Thank you. APPLAUSE CONTINUES
0:21:30 > 0:21:33- That's a very eloquent... - If I could say something too.
0:21:33 > 0:21:36You know, as a fan,
0:21:36 > 0:21:39I would say that he also had a keen eye for collaboration
0:21:39 > 0:21:41and seeing people for who they really were.
0:21:41 > 0:21:45I think in the case of Iggy and all his collaborators,
0:21:45 > 0:21:48I think it was a beautiful thing to watch him,
0:21:48 > 0:21:51to understand who someone else was. That's a nice thing.
0:21:51 > 0:21:55- Yeah, great thing. - Open-minded.- Open-minded, yeah.
0:21:55 > 0:21:58That's what I would... Those two words - open-minded.
0:21:58 > 0:22:00Well, it's wonderful to have you both here.
0:22:00 > 0:22:03The record's been number one, the tour has been a huge success.
0:22:03 > 0:22:06We love you here. Is success a joy?
0:22:07 > 0:22:10- Why, what have you heard? - GENTLE LAUGHTER
0:22:10 > 0:22:13- Yeah, it's wonderful. - It's pretty cool.- Great. Excellent.
0:22:13 > 0:22:16No further questions. I'll hand you over to the prosecution.

0:38:09 > 0:38:11# I'm over you
0:38:11 > 0:38:14# You're under me
0:38:14 > 0:38:15# This is the last time
0:38:15 > 0:38:17# Don't say it's the last time
0:38:17 > 0:38:19# Call me up
0:38:19 > 0:38:21# You've got me choking up
0:38:21 > 0:38:22# If we're in love
0:38:22 > 0:38:25# Tonight we can get away
0:38:26 > 0:38:30# Tonight we can get away
0:38:30 > 0:38:33# Tonight we can get away
0:38:33 > 0:38:37# Tonight we can get away
0:38:37 > 0:38:40# Tonight we can get away
0:38:41 > 0:38:44# Tonight we can get away
0:38:44 > 0:38:47# Tonight we can get away. #
0:39:11 > 0:39:14Blossoms, Getaway, from their album Blossoms.
0:39:15 > 0:39:17Delightful to have them in the studio.
0:39:17 > 0:39:20Now, we have a songwriting legend from The Hollies,
0:39:20 > 0:39:22Crosby, Stills & Nash,
0:39:22 > 0:39:25the visual artist, the Grammy winner, the OBE-ist, the lot.
0:39:25 > 0:39:27It is Graham Nash!
0:39:31 > 0:39:36We've given you a luxury spread, almost as generous as Iggy's.
0:39:36 > 0:39:38- Almost, almost.- There we are.
0:39:38 > 0:39:41So this is the first time you've joined us a solo artist.
0:39:41 > 0:39:44A great record you have, you played something from it earlier,
0:39:44 > 0:39:48and it's your first solo album in 14 years. Is that right? Yeah.
0:39:48 > 0:39:51- Are you enjoying being on your own? - I'm enjoying it tremendously.
0:39:51 > 0:39:55I've spent most of my life in a band, you know,
0:39:55 > 0:39:57but it's very interesting now
0:39:57 > 0:40:02not having to ask Crosby or Stills or Neil what to play next.
0:40:02 > 0:40:04I have my free rein and it's very interesting.
0:40:04 > 0:40:06And another thing is that,
0:40:06 > 0:40:09because there's four strong writers in the band,
0:40:09 > 0:40:12you can't use all the stuff you write,
0:40:12 > 0:40:14so what do you do with it, right?
0:40:14 > 0:40:17Songs drive me crazy when they're in here.
0:40:17 > 0:40:20They don't leave my being
0:40:20 > 0:40:25until they're on record, vinyl, whatever it is, right?
0:40:25 > 0:40:29And this album is really touching people's hearts.
0:40:29 > 0:40:31I've been travelling all around the world with Shane Fontayne,
0:40:31 > 0:40:33who produced the record, of course.
0:40:33 > 0:40:35Who was playing with you earlier, there.
0:40:35 > 0:40:37A brilliant, brilliant guitar player.
0:40:37 > 0:40:38Not only played lead guitar with Sting
0:40:38 > 0:40:41but with Bruce Springsteen for a few years. Yeah.
0:40:41 > 0:40:44But is the writing process different for you now
0:40:44 > 0:40:47to how it was in the '60s when you were writing in the Hollies?
0:40:47 > 0:40:49The way you approach, is it a different approach
0:40:49 > 0:40:52- or is it the same thing? - It's a slightly different approach.
0:40:52 > 0:40:54What I learned with the Hollies is how to create a melody
0:40:54 > 0:40:57that you can't forget if you've heard it twice, right?
0:40:57 > 0:40:59But, with all due respect,
0:40:59 > 0:41:02the lyrics were a little teenage, a little naive.
0:41:02 > 0:41:06When I joined Stephen and David in America
0:41:06 > 0:41:07and saw what they were writing,
0:41:07 > 0:41:10I began to realise that, if I could change my lyrics
0:41:10 > 0:41:13and make them more important to me
0:41:13 > 0:41:16and attach them to a melody that I've written,
0:41:16 > 0:41:18now we're in business and that's what's been going on.
0:41:18 > 0:41:20And I suppose, as you get older,
0:41:20 > 0:41:22you've learned more of the things you've got to say.
0:41:22 > 0:41:24- And you forget a lot of stuff, too. - Yeah, exactly, yeah, yeah.
0:41:24 > 0:41:28Well, we've got something here from the Hollies from Top of the Pops,
0:41:28 > 0:41:30- might be in Manchester.- Probably.
0:41:30 > 0:41:33Let's just have a little look at this just to go back.
0:41:33 > 0:41:34It's just one look.
0:41:34 > 0:41:36# Say you will
0:41:36 > 0:41:41# Will be mine
0:41:41 > 0:41:44# Forever
0:41:44 > 0:41:47# And always
0:41:47 > 0:41:49# Oh-oh oh-oh
0:41:49 > 0:41:51# Just one look
0:41:51 > 0:41:55# And I knew, knew, knew
0:41:55 > 0:41:58# That you
0:41:58 > 0:42:01# Were my only one
0:42:01 > 0:42:03# Oh, oh oh-oh
0:42:03 > 0:42:06# I thought I was dreaming
0:42:06 > 0:42:08# But I was wrong
0:42:08 > 0:42:10# Yeah, yeah, yeah
0:42:10 > 0:42:13# Oh, but I'm gonna keep on scheming
0:42:13 > 0:42:15# Till I can make you
0:42:15 > 0:42:17# Make you my own... #
0:42:21 > 0:42:25- I mean, that is a black-and-white world.- Indeed.
0:42:25 > 0:42:28Are things essentially the same or are they very different
0:42:28 > 0:42:30to how things were then in the music business?
0:42:30 > 0:42:34I think the common thread between it all in terms of what I do
0:42:34 > 0:42:38is that I have to feel something about some subject,
0:42:38 > 0:42:41whether I'm angry about something or I'm in love, you know?
0:42:41 > 0:42:43I have to feel something first.
0:42:43 > 0:42:47Once I feel, then I utilise the tools
0:42:47 > 0:42:49that I've been using for the last 50 or 60 years.
0:42:49 > 0:42:51I'm a songwriter, you know?
0:42:51 > 0:42:54Now, in a moment, you're going to play for us Marrakesh,
0:42:54 > 0:42:56which is a great, legendary song and...
0:42:56 > 0:42:58How much time have we got left?
0:42:58 > 0:43:00How much?
0:43:00 > 0:43:03Ten seconds. Where did you write that song?
0:43:03 > 0:43:05- Oh, in Marrakesh. - Thank you very much.
0:43:05 > 0:43:07Just checking!
0:43:07 > 0:43:10Thank you so much, Graham Nash!
0:43:11 > 0:43:14He will be playing a legendary song,
0:43:14 > 0:43:16one of his many legendary songs,
0:43:16 > 0:43:17in just a moment.
0:43:19 > 0:43:23And, in fact, you can see here, this is the very stool
0:43:23 > 0:43:26that they're going to be sitting on when they play that song
0:43:26 > 0:43:29that he wrote while he was in Marrakesh!
0:43:32 > 0:43:35But now, this is a truly wonderful and international show
0:43:35 > 0:43:38with people coming from all over the world to perform with us.
0:43:38 > 0:43:42We have now one of the new and most fantastic artists from France.
0:43:42 > 0:43:44We welcome Lou Doillon!
0:44:04 > 0:44:05# I wouldn't know
0:44:07 > 0:44:09# Where to start
0:44:10 > 0:44:15# If you ever were to ask me
0:44:15 > 0:44:18# If I ever came to say
0:44:19 > 0:44:21# So is this what
0:44:23 > 0:44:26# You're proposing to me?
0:44:27 > 0:44:31# A front seat to your parade
0:44:31 > 0:44:33# To sit and fill?
0:44:35 > 0:44:38# Well, it seems pointless to explain
0:44:39 > 0:44:41# Just give it a stare
0:44:43 > 0:44:47# If only you'd notice
0:44:47 > 0:44:50# If only you'd dare
0:44:50 > 0:44:53- # I've gotta stop - Stop
0:44:53 > 0:44:54# This obsession
0:44:54 > 0:44:57- # I've gotta stand - Stand
0:44:57 > 0:44:58# By my reason
0:44:58 > 0:45:00# Let the film roll
0:45:02 > 0:45:04# Without me
0:45:06 > 0:45:07# I'm always waiting
0:45:09 > 0:45:12# For what comes rare
0:45:14 > 0:45:17# Knees black from bending
0:45:17 > 0:45:21# Seeking a little love here and there
0:45:21 > 0:45:23# But I don't blame you
0:45:25 > 0:45:27# For the act
0:45:27 > 0:45:30# The show, the lights
0:45:30 > 0:45:34# Maybe myself for taking part
0:45:37 > 0:45:40# Well, it seems pointless to explain
0:45:41 > 0:45:43# Just give it a stare
0:45:45 > 0:45:48# If only you'd notice
0:45:48 > 0:45:52# If only you'd dare
0:45:52 > 0:45:55- # I've gotta stop - Stop
0:45:55 > 0:45:56# This obsession
0:45:56 > 0:45:59- # I've gotta stand - Stand
0:45:59 > 0:46:00# By my reason
