:12:17. > :12:20.we will be discussing interesting things later. Now somebody we have
:12:21. > :12:24.been trying to get on the show for a long time. Now she is there. With
:12:25. > :12:27.Gemini Feed, we welcome Banks. # And to think you would
:12:28. > :12:30.get me to the altar. # Like I'd follow you around
:12:31. > :12:33.like a dog that needs water. # But admit it, that
:12:34. > :12:38.you wanted me smaller. # If you would've let me grow,
:12:39. > :12:57.you could've kept my love. # There's nothing
:12:58. > :13:05.on my body left to see. # I tried to say "I love you,"
:13:06. > :13:15.but you didn't hear me. # Convinced me other people,
:13:16. > :13:24.they don't care about me. # And to think you would
:13:25. > :13:36.get me to the altar. # Like I'd follow you around
:13:37. > :13:41.like a dog that needs water. # But admit it, that
:13:42. > :13:46.you wanted me smaller. # If you would've let me grow,
:13:47. > :13:53.you could've kept my love. # I still want you to kiss 'em
:13:54. > :14:00.cause they're lonely. # That when I said "I miss you,"
:14:01. > :14:10.you never believed me. # You and me together,
:14:11. > :14:20.we were gemini feed. # And to think you would
:14:21. > :14:32.get me to the altar. # Like I'd follow you around
:14:33. > :14:38.like a dog that needs water. # But admit it, that
:14:39. > :14:42.you wanted me smaller. # If you would've let me grow,
:14:43. > :14:49.you could've kept my love. # And to think you would

:15:35. > :15:39.you wanted me smaller. # If you would've let me grow,
:15:40. > :16:02.you could've kept my love #. Thank you, Banks, with Gemini Feed.
:16:03. > :16:07.Marvellous to have you in this room. So nice, the way the lights come up
:16:08. > :16:12.and they go down and stars come into this room and they go out. It's a
:16:13. > :16:15.treat to be here. We welcome now to the table for some intimate chat the
:16:16. > :16:27.wonderful Sting. CHEERING It is Sting! Now,
:16:28. > :16:33.congratulations on your new record, 57th 9th. Where does the title
:16:34. > :16:38.come from? It's an intersection I would cross every day on my way to
:16:39. > :16:42.the studio, at Hells kitchen in New York. It's very busy and you have to
:16:43. > :16:55.be careful when you cross. How are you travelling? I walk. How far is
:16:56. > :16:59.it? 15 blocks. I lived on west 57th but I got confused because the
:17:00. > :17:02.street were not called things like pudding Lane, it was all numbers, so
:17:03. > :17:10.I couldn't remember what they were called. But you can't get lost. You
:17:11. > :17:19.can, one, two... You can't remember where you are going. When you got to
:17:20. > :17:24.the studio, why that junction? Did something happened there? No, I just
:17:25. > :17:30.like the junction. Last time you came on, you said there was no point
:17:31. > :17:34.trying to write something if you didn't have something to say, so
:17:35. > :17:41.what has inspired you for this record? The first song is about that
:17:42. > :17:47.conundrum. You face a blank page and it looks like a field of snow. You
:17:48. > :17:52.have no idea what is underneath, a road, a pass, an animal you are
:17:53. > :17:56.hunting, a story, a news, inspiration. It's about an obsessive
:17:57. > :18:04.search for something ephemeral, a song. What comes first, the words of
:18:05. > :18:09.the music? It depends. I like to do it both ways. I might write the
:18:10. > :18:14.music and it gives me a clue about the story or a write a line and it
:18:15. > :18:23.follows. What was inspiring you? What was underneath the snow that
:18:24. > :18:26.you found? Things happening in the world, global warming, refugee
:18:27. > :18:32.crisis, a lot of our colleagues dying quickly, so many of them.
:18:33. > :18:40.Those kind of things inspired me to respond to them. It's a question I'd
:18:41. > :18:48.like to ask. Are you a person who is likely to be well rehearsed or are
:18:49. > :18:51.you spontaneous? We went into the studio, Dominic Miller and Vinny,
:18:52. > :18:55.the three of us know each other so well that we would jam together,
:18:56. > :19:02.showed a thing into the form of a song, and I'd take that home, a
:19:03. > :19:08.story of that abstract narrative that music is. That's my job. The
:19:09. > :19:14.last record was brilliant. You came on with Jimmy nail. It was a
:19:15. > :19:19.systolic record. This is going back to the police macro style. -- it was
:19:20. > :19:24.a symphonic record. This is going back to the Police style. I have
:19:25. > :19:30.made these are terrible records. I like surprise. When I listen to
:19:31. > :19:39.music, I want to be surprised. -- I have made these ephemeral records.
:19:40. > :19:46.This is a surprise. It's very direct, it's very simple, it's rock
:19:47. > :19:50.and roll. Simple is hardest, do you think was John Mogg it's very
:19:51. > :19:57.difficult. The song you are going to be playing is called 50,000. What's
:19:58. > :20:06.it about? A lot of icons passed away this year, David Bowie, Prince, and
:20:07. > :20:13.my friend Alan Rickman. Prince Buster. So I was responding as a man
:20:14. > :20:20.who has probably lived most of his life already, I'm 64, so thinking
:20:21. > :20:25.about my moan -- my own mortality and what that feels like. We look
:20:26. > :20:33.forward to hearing from you later. Thank you for joining us, Sting. Who
:20:34. > :20:35.will be over here with everybody. But now in this corner, a man who is
:20:36. > :20:42.there. It is Jack White. # One of us is happy
:20:43. > :20:50.One of us is mean # I love you, honey
:20:51. > :21:06.Why don't you love me? # Then I start to think
:21:07. > :21:17.you're growing colder # I watch TV
:21:18. > :21:26.You watch the ceiling # And when you turn over
:21:27. > :21:29.I get a funny feeling # And pop the top
:21:30. > :21:37.until my baby comes clean # Yeah, I should
:21:38. > :21:40.grab my rock and rye # And pop the top
:21:41. > :21:46.until my baby comes clean # You bust your lip
:21:47. > :21:53.on wine spodie odie # So come and take a trip
:21:54. > :21:57.if you want to know me # Then I start to think
:21:58. > :22:28.you're growing colder # You drink water
:22:29. > :22:42.and I drink gasoline # One of us is happy
:22:43. > :22:46.The other one is mean # I love you, honey
:22:47. > :26:59.Why don't you love me? # Wonderful to have them back in this
:27:00. > :27:07.room, Kings of Leon! Before that, the wonderful Jack White! Now we
:27:08. > :27:12.welcome for the first time on this show somebody who has been
:27:13. > :27:15.championed by Prince, touring with Gregory Porter, we welcome Kandace
:27:16. > :27:29.Springs! # I've been trying to look
:27:30. > :27:45.inside your heart # But silence keeps on
:27:46. > :28:00.pushing us apart # Your voice is like
:28:01. > :28:38.a song I long to hear # All these days
:28:39. > :28:55.will pass on into years # So if in doubt,
:28:56. > :29:03.remember that you're free, yeah # And all I want
:29:04. > :29:12.is for you to talk to me # And all I want
:29:13. > :31:41.is for you to talk to me # Picked up the paper today one more
:31:42. > :31:50.on the list of already fallen # Another one of my comrades is
:31:51. > :31:54.taken down # We treat our anecdotes and
:31:55. > :32:06.commentary # We sing some songs and sad
:32:07. > :32:16.# The tabloids to this and tell # 50,000 voices rise every time we
:32:17. > :32:25.sing # Every word he ever wrote reflected
:32:26. > :32:31.back to him # We don't remember the studios we
:32:32. > :32:34.played all the lights on 50,000 faces
:32:35. > :32:38.# The serious drug you could never kick
:32:39. > :32:43.# What you could never imagine you could replace
:32:44. > :32:54.# You feel like kites on the wings of amphetamine
:32:55. > :32:58.# Really what did any of it mean # It was a high philosophy of
:32:59. > :33:06.reflection and defeat # 50,000 voices rising every time he
:33:07. > :33:16.sings # Every word he ever wrote reflected
:33:17. > :33:22.back to him # Still believe
:33:23. > :33:56.# Rock stars only fade # Reflecting now on my own past
:33:57. > :34:02.# The saddest present I'd made for myself
:34:03. > :34:05.# I'm feeling a little better today # Although the bathroom mirror is
:34:06. > :34:11.telling me something else # These lines of stress one
:34:12. > :34:15.bloodshot eye # The unhealthy pallor of a troubled
:34:16. > :34:23.ghost # Where did I put my spectacle case
:34:24. > :34:31.# Half blind # 50,000 to ministers like you and
:34:32. > :35:00.me # Rock stars will never die they
:35:01. > :35:06.will only fade away #. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:35:07. > :35:17.The wonderful sound of Sting with 50,000. From 57th 9th. Before that
:35:18. > :35:22.we very much enjoyed Kandace Springs!
:35:23. > :35:32.And so pleased to have a legend at the table with a snap whose the sick
:35:33. > :35:38.we enjoyed earlier, Jack White! -- with us now whose music we enjoyed.
:35:39. > :35:43.All of these cut at the BBC, it is austerity can you get a glass of
:35:44. > :35:48.water, actually half a glass at a plectrum. Thank you for coming. You
:35:49. > :35:52.have this great record out and I like it because it is actually a
:35:53. > :35:59.record, I am a record collector so I love their record. It is a
:36:00. > :36:04.collection of your acoustic recordings. You have so many great
:36:05. > :36:10.songs, was it hard to decide what to put on? I had about three hours to
:36:11. > :36:14.start with and took off the cover songs and the live songs and
:36:15. > :36:20.whittled it down to something that made sense. Their art studio track
:36:21. > :36:25.that have been remastered or songs that studied at acoustic songs and
:36:26. > :36:29.we turned them into larger 16 track things. I wanted to peel them back
:36:30. > :36:32.and let people see how they started so it was a collection of those
:36:33. > :36:38.things but all chronological as well. How was the process of looking
:36:39. > :36:42.back and listening? It takes years for me to listen to a song that I've
:36:43. > :36:46.written to be able to hear it clearly. When you first do it you
:36:47. > :36:51.are very close to it and time has to go by before you can listen to it
:36:52. > :36:55.again, for me. After a while you can see it for what it is and you are
:36:56. > :37:00.far away enough. What about listening to a piece of music you
:37:01. > :37:06.have loved for a long time? Does it get much better? Is it you changing
:37:07. > :37:11.or the music? You are appreciating those little nuance is a little
:37:12. > :37:15.more, I was watching Sting and all of the Stuart Copeland drum fills
:37:16. > :37:20.that I loved, how much more I love them now, and John Bonham that I
:37:21. > :37:25.love even more now. I always attacked the music from a drummer
:37:26. > :37:30.first and read my way out to the piano and vocals and melody. You
:37:31. > :37:34.start with the drum? Always, that's my favourite part, that's where it
:37:35. > :37:38.come from. You have produced a lot of artists and collaborated with a
:37:39. > :37:47.lot of artists, what is the key for that? To be as polite as possible!
:37:48. > :37:51.You have just produced Beyonce, when you go in for the first day, being
:37:52. > :37:59.as polite as possible, how does it go? I'm Beyonce, what are we doing?
:38:00. > :38:06.I like to go into other people's worlds, I do a lot of things analog
:38:07. > :38:09.into tape and not too much digital equipment when I write and produce
:38:10. > :38:16.and record so if I'm working with somebody who is further away from my
:38:17. > :38:20.normal world, I like to do what they normally do so I can learn something
:38:21. > :38:24.from them. I was trying to learn as much as I could from how Beyonce
:38:25. > :38:27.does things to see if we could find some common ground and build
:38:28. > :38:30.something and we really did, it was really incredible that we were able
:38:31. > :38:34.to do. I thought it was not going to work at first but it turned into
:38:35. > :38:41.something I'm incredibly happy about. What did you learn from her?
:38:42. > :38:46.She is very beautiful! Funnily enough, so are you! I can see how
:38:47. > :38:50.you have picked up on it. I am asking a few of the artists on the
:38:51. > :39:01.show, spontaneity or being well rehearsed? Spontaneity! Of course.
:39:02. > :39:06.The Germans have a word for it. Also, I must ask you, I believe your
:39:07. > :39:12.record label launched your own space proof turntable into outer space. We
:39:13. > :39:20.did do that. We don't really know why we did it but we did do it. Was
:39:21. > :39:23.it OK with Nasa and all that? We had to get clearance with them and
:39:24. > :39:30.things like that, it was a five-year project. And also third man records
:39:31. > :39:36.has produced 3 million pieces of vinyl. We love vinyl! Your 3
:39:37. > :39:44.millionth was propelled into outer space? It is too important! And
:39:45. > :39:49.perhaps if there had been Martians out there, they could have heard it?
:39:50. > :39:54.Exactly. You are assuming they have got thumbs. It is a lot of assuming.
:39:55. > :40:03.Thank you for joining us, Jack White! APPLAUSE
:40:04. > :40:07.Outer space, you have never been into outer space, have you? Even
:40:08. > :40:11.Sting who has done almost everything, he hasn't been into
:40:12. > :40:22.outer space. Have you ever been into outer space? No, absolutely not.
:40:23. > :40:27.Maybe with drugs? No! In reality! Thank you for your help on that!
:40:28. > :40:32.They have not been into outer space was the answer. The closest you can
:40:33. > :40:34.get is by being with us on the show. I'm now pleased to welcome back the
:40:35. > :41:04.wonderful Banks! # This is not about me
:41:05. > :41:22.# All this business # Is it better?
:41:23. > :41:45.# This is not about us # This is not about us
:41:46. > :41:50.# I never played it cool # It was a big mistake
:41:51. > :42:00.# This is not about to you # Trying to get up in my bag
:42:01. > :42:16.# All this business # Is it better
