0:21:21 > 0:21:25I have got to get it to The Hollies or I have to get it to anybody?

0:21:25 > 0:21:26How did it work?

0:21:26 > 0:21:27I actually wrote it for The Hollies.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29Because they had already recorded a song of mine,

0:21:29 > 0:21:31Look Through Any Window, prior to that.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34And as it happens, I was playing in a band that was supporting

0:21:34 > 0:21:38The Hollies at Stoke Town Hall and they said, have

0:21:38 > 0:21:39you got any songs?

0:21:39 > 0:21:40I said, yes, I have just written one.

0:21:40 > 0:21:44And we went to the quietest and smallest room in the building

0:21:44 > 0:21:47and I played it to them and they said it's great,

0:21:47 > 0:21:49make a demo and we'll record it.

0:21:49 > 0:21:51I think within about three weeks, they had recorded it.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54Now, we have a clip in a moment of Rubber Bullets,

0:21:54 > 0:21:57which is 10cc in concert in 1974.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59What inspired that song?

0:21:59 > 0:22:02Well, this song was originally...

0:22:02 > 0:22:05The original idea came from Kevin and Lol.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08I sort of joined in at the end of it and wrote the middle part.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11It was really films like Angels With Dirty Faces,

0:22:11 > 0:22:14those Jimmy Cagney films, with the padre and the priest

0:22:14 > 0:22:18looking after the prisoners.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21And it was an absolutely brilliant song, I think.

0:22:21 > 0:22:25We have a little bit, if we can take you down the time tunnel,

0:22:25 > 0:22:27out of Legends Corner, down the time tunnel.

0:22:27 > 0:22:28And here we go...

0:22:28 > 0:22:29# Well, the band were playing.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33# And the booze began to flow.

0:22:33 > 0:22:39# But the sound came over on the police car radio.

0:22:39 > 0:22:42# Down at Precinct forty-nine.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45# Having a tear-gas of a time.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47# Sergeant Baker got a call from the governor

0:22:47 > 0:22:51of the county jail.

0:22:51 > 0:22:57# Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets.

0:22:57 > 0:23:03# Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06# I love to hear those convicts squeal.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09# It's a shame these slugs ain't real.

0:23:09 > 0:23:15# But we can't have dancin' at the local county jail.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17APPLAUSE.

0:23:17 > 0:23:18Nice.

0:23:18 > 0:23:19Two drummers.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22Yes, you have to have two!

0:23:22 > 0:23:24Bookends as drummers, drummer at either end, there.

0:23:24 > 0:23:26That was 1974.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29In music and in the world, what do you think was

0:23:29 > 0:23:33better and worse in 1974?

0:23:33 > 0:23:35I think the music was great in 1974.

0:23:35 > 0:23:40For me, the '60s were where my roots came from.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44And I think there was a lot of prog rock towards the end of it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48I didn't really care for that too much.

0:23:48 > 0:23:53But I think the '70s as a decade was a great music decade.

0:23:53 > 0:23:54Yeah.

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Finally, and I would just like to get this straight

0:23:57 > 0:24:00because has been a lot of conjecture over the years in the newspapers

0:24:00 > 0:24:04about the meaning behind the name of 10cc.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07For once and for all, where does the name come from?

0:24:07 > 0:24:09What does it mean?

0:24:09 > 0:24:10I will tell you the truth.

0:24:10 > 0:24:14The name 10cc was thought up by Jonathan King,

0:24:14 > 0:24:17who ran our first record label, UK Records.

0:24:17 > 0:24:21He came up to our studio, we were born in the studio,

0:24:21 > 0:24:24we had not been on the road, we weren't a real band.

0:24:24 > 0:24:25He said, have you got a name?

0:24:25 > 0:24:26We said, no.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29He said, I had a dream last night I was standing in front

0:24:29 > 0:24:32of the Hammersmith Apollo and on the hoarding it said 10cc -

0:24:32 > 0:24:34the best band in the world.

0:24:34 > 0:24:38And we said, that'll do!

0:24:38 > 0:24:39We didn't really stress it!

0:24:39 > 0:24:40OK.

0:24:40 > 0:24:42So nothing lewd, really?

0:24:42 > 0:24:45I think you are referring to the fact that the average

0:24:45 > 0:24:47male ejaculation is 9cc?

0:24:47 > 0:24:49That's the bit I was trying to get to!

0:24:49 > 0:24:51That's the one!

0:24:51 > 0:24:53Well, we use that because it's shorter and more interesting.

0:24:53 > 0:24:56Yes, that was what I was trying to get to the bottom of.

0:24:56 > 0:24:58Thank you so much for joining us!

0:24:58 > 0:24:59Graham Gouldman of 10cc.

0:24:59 > 0:25:02If I see a bit of innuendo in that script, I whip it out immediately!

0:25:02 > 0:25:07So, now, over in this corner, please welcome Japandroids!

0:25:17 > 0:25:23# Born to marry the bottle in a ceremony that lasts forever.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27# And cursed to carry on a bus and all alone.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31# Weak and weary on the run and on the road.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34# But if you'll hide me and heal me in your.

0:25:34 > 0:25:38# Sanctuary, I'll stay forever so.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41# Leave the light on, I'll leave the bottle to its own.

0:25:41 > 0:25:46# So many miles.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50# So much to lose.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53# A devil by my side.

0:25:53 > 0:25:58# And right between us two.

0:25:58 > 0:26:05# And I pray those yellow lines on the I5.

0:26:05 > 0:26:08# Bring me back home to you.

0:26:08 > 0:26:12# Bring me back home to you.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15# Back home to you.

0:26:22 > 0:26:28# Born to marry the bottle in a ceremony that lasts forever and.

0:26:28 > 0:26:32# Cursed to carry on a bus and all alone.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36# Weak and weary on the run and on the road.

0:26:36 > 0:26:39# But if you'll hide me and heal me in your.

0:26:39 > 0:26:43# Sanctuary, I'll stay forever so.

0:26:43 > 0:26:48# Leave the light on, I'll leave the bottle to its own.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52# So many miles.

0:26:52 > 0:26:55# So much to lose.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58# A devil by my side.

0:26:58 > 0:27:03# And right between us two.

0:27:03 > 0:27:09# And I pray those yellow lines on the I5.

0:27:09 > 0:27:12# Bring me back home to you.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16# Bring me back home to you.

0:27:16 > 0:27:20# Back home to you.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09# So many miles.

0:28:09 > 0:28:13# So much to lose.

0:28:13 > 0:28:16# A devil by my side.

0:28:16 > 0:28:20# And right between us two.

0:28:20 > 0:28:26# And I pray those yellow lines on the I5.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29# Bring me back home to you.

0:28:29 > 0:28:33# Bring me back home to you.

0:28:33 > 0:28:35# Back home to you.

0:28:36 > 0:28:37# Back home to you.

0:28:37 > 0:28:39# Back home to you.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41# Back home to you.

0:28:41 > 0:28:42# Back home to you.

0:28:42 > 0:28:44# Back home to you.

0:28:44 > 0:28:45# Bring me back home to you.

0:28:45 > 0:28:47# Back home to you.

0:28:51 > 0:29:01APPLAUSE.

0:29:51 > 0:29:56# So don't forget it.

0:29:56 > 0:29:57# It's just a silly phase.

0:29:57 > 0:30:03# I'm going through.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05# And just because.

0:30:05 > 0:30:10# I call you up.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13# Don't get me wrong.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17# Don't think you've got it made.

0:30:19 > 0:30:21# No, no.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29# I like to see you.

0:30:29 > 0:30:30# But then again.

0:30:30 > 0:30:34# That doesn't mean.

0:30:34 > 0:30:36# You mean that much to me.

0:30:36 > 0:30:37# So if I call you.

0:30:37 > 0:30:46# Don't make a fuss.

0:30:46 > 0:30:51# Don't tell your friends.

0:30:51 > 0:30:55# About the two of us.

0:31:37 > 0:31:38# I keep your picture.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41# Upon the wall.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44# It hides a nasty stain.

0:31:44 > 0:31:48# That's lying there.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52# So don't you ask me.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55# To give it back.

0:31:55 > 0:31:57# I know you know.

0:31:57 > 0:32:02# It doesn't mean that much to me.
