0:00:46 > 0:00:51This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about.
0:00:53 > 0:00:57His mother, Mary, was pledged to be married to Joseph.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59But before they came together,
0:00:59 > 0:01:04she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.
0:01:04 > 0:01:08Because Joseph, her husband, was faithful to the law,
0:01:08 > 0:01:13and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace,
0:01:13 > 0:01:16he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
0:01:19 > 0:01:21But after he had considered this,
0:01:21 > 0:01:26an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said,
0:01:26 > 0:01:29"Joseph, son of David,
0:01:29 > 0:01:33"do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37"Because what is conceived inside her is from the Holy Spirit.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40"She will give birth to a son,
0:01:40 > 0:01:44"and you are to give him the name Jesus,
0:01:44 > 0:01:47"because he will save his people from their sins."
0:01:49 > 0:01:52All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said
0:01:52 > 0:01:54through the prophet.
0:01:54 > 0:01:59"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
0:01:59 > 0:02:05"and they will call him Emmanuel, which means 'God with us'."
0:02:07 > 0:02:09When Joseph woke up,
0:02:09 > 0:02:12he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him,
0:02:12 > 0:02:15and took Mary home as his wife.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18But he did not consummate their marriage
0:02:18 > 0:02:21until she had given birth to a son.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24And he gave him the name Jesus.
