:46:37. > :48:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

:48:55. > :49:05.# Is someone getting the best The first time I ever came here, I

:49:05. > :49:07.

:49:07. > :49:12.tell you a little story. So, I grew up in Virginia, right outside of

:49:12. > :49:17.Washington, DC. I played in a punk rock band. We played in squats and

:49:17. > :49:27.we starved and it was really, really fun and then one day this

:49:27. > :49:27.

:49:27. > :49:32.friend of mine says, "Hey, you ever heard of that band Nivarna?" I am

:49:32. > :49:41.like, "Yeah." He was like, they are looking for a drummer and they

:49:41. > :49:49.think you are pretty good. I said, "really?" so, I flew up to Seattle

:49:49. > :49:59.and they already had a drummer - this guy Danny. He was a locking

:49:59. > :50:02.

:50:02. > :50:12.great drummer. He was in a band called. So the first day I hung out

:50:12. > :50:18.with all the guys we were having a barbecue. I said to Danny, "What's

:50:18. > :50:24.the biggest audience you have ever played to?" he said "35,000

:50:24. > :50:34.people." I said where did Mud Honey play to 35,000 people? He said, oh

:50:34. > :50:41.Oh, this place called the Reading festival - it's in England.

:50:41. > :50:48.About a year later, we had recorded the record Never Mind. We were

:50:48. > :50:58.coming over here to play some festivals.

:50:58. > :51:04.I looked on my schedule and it said "Saturday - Reading festival."

:51:04. > :51:11.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE I think we played like 2pm in the

:51:11. > :51:18.afternoon or something like that. But I'd never been so scared in the

:51:19. > :51:28.entire of my life. I had to play to 35,000 people - that was beyond my

:51:29. > :51:32.

:51:32. > :51:40.wildest dreams. So, tonight, I think there's like a

:51:40. > :51:46.fucking100,000 of you. Over the years, I have seen this

:51:46. > :51:51.stage get taller and taller. I have seen the barrier get further and

:51:51. > :52:01.further away. CROWD: Booing

:52:01. > :52:21.

:52:21. > :52:26.BUT FROM RIGHT HERE, IT LOOKS THE For me, to be here tonight, with my

:52:26. > :52:31.mother - you know in 1992 when Nivarna played here - the last show

:52:31. > :52:41.we ever played in England - it was, I think the day before my mother's

:52:41. > :52:54.

:52:54. > :53:04.birthday. Birthday is next week. So here's

:53:04. > :53:33.

:53:33. > :53:43.Mrs Grohl! AUDIENCE: Mrs Grohl.

:53:43. > :53:53.

:53:53. > :54:03.So, tonight we have three generations of Grohls on the

:54:03. > :54:27.

:54:27. > :54:34.All of that to say, this festival is not just a festival to me -

:54:34. > :54:44.tonight, is like the most important gig of my life.
