0:00:55 > 0:00:57from the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg
0:00:57 > 0:01:01and there will be contributions from the violinist Benjamin Schmid
0:01:01 > 0:01:03and the Vienna State Opera Ballet.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07The theme tonight is virtuoso paintings,
0:01:07 > 0:01:10and there will certainly be virtuosity in abundance.
0:01:10 > 0:01:14In the concert, there will be music from Sibelius, Paganini
0:01:14 > 0:01:18and Mussorgsky, but we start with Les Preludes by Franz Liszt,
0:01:18 > 0:01:20who was not only a virtuoso pianist
0:01:20 > 0:01:24but a highly-accomplished composer for orchestra as well as the piano.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00in violinist Benjamin Schmid.
0:17:00 > 0:17:02He's going to play the first movement
0:17:02 > 0:17:05of the Violin Concerto No.1 by Paganini.
0:17:05 > 0:17:08Paganini was a sensation in early-19th-century Europe,
0:17:08 > 0:17:10and his music is still regarded
0:17:10 > 0:17:14as some of the most technically difficult to play for any violinist.

0:35:35 > 0:35:40the crane being a symbol of good luck and of long life in Japanese culture.
0:35:40 > 0:35:42After that will be Pictures At An Exhibition
0:35:42 > 0:35:45by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky,
0:35:45 > 0:35:46orchestrated by Ravel,
0:35:46 > 0:35:48and dancers from the Vienna State Opera Ballet
0:35:48 > 0:35:51will bring the music to life in front of the Gloriette,
0:35:51 > 0:35:54overlooking the palace of Schonbrunn.
