:04:35. > :04:40.Definitely. I have just come from Riyadh and there is a lot of talk
:04:41. > :04:47.now about some Arab states including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab
:04:48. > :04:52.Emirates are, as one minister said to bringing down 70 years of hatred

:05:05. > :05:07.they want to work with them and other strategic goals. As far as
:05:08. > :05:11.Saudi Arabia is concerned it is widely known but not much talked of
:05:12. > :05:16.that there are contacts between the two countries, there have been some
:05:17. > :05:20.senior Saudis who have visited Israel and vice versa. They have
:05:21. > :05:25.been talking behind-the-scenes and both agree Errani is the main enemy.
:05:26. > :05:30.Now they have President Trump in the White House of reading with that.
:05:31. > :05:35.And when Israel looks to deal with the Palestinians it sees a wider

:05:43. > :05:46.One of the things that struck me about this is the raccoons are
:05:47. > :05:50.making it clear they will not lecture the Middle East and human

:05:55. > :05:58.partners over issues for example like Yemen or other human rights
:05:59. > :06:02.issues which might be tricky for America in this closer relationship
:06:03. > :06:10.with Gulf states. They were not on the agenda. In Riyadh, many noted
:06:11. > :06:21.that, not human rights. The Yemen question came up on a press
:06:22. > :06:25.conference in which this American civilian -- Secretary of State said
:06:26. > :06:30.if we give them better arms they will be able to target better. I
:06:31. > :06:35.spoke to a senior American official in Riyadh and he said the difference
:06:36. > :06:40.between Obama and Trump is that Trump will not tell the Saudis how
:06:41. > :06:45.they should run the kingdom, and that is very important. They are
:06:46. > :06:50.doing deals and they making new alliances. But the other thing on
:06:51. > :06:53.the agenda is trying to make peace with the Palestinians and the White
:06:54. > :06:57.House made it clear they want to see some confidence building measures as
:06:58. > :07:00.they call them, before they arrive with the Palestinians. A series of
:07:01. > :07:07.steps happen taken to ease the steps and that crossing between Jordan and
:07:08. > :07:10.the West Bank, to include to create new industrial zones and jobs and
:07:11. > :07:17.allow more building permits. Is this enough? Is this a move in the right
:07:18. > :07:22.direction? We can cross to the West Bank to join the Palestinian
:07:23. > :07:34.entrepreneur, do you welcome the steps? We have seen this song and
:07:35. > :07:40.dance before. Where Israel tries to make some kind of public gesture to
:07:41. > :07:45.show a new US president that they are serious about peace. The reality
:07:46. > :07:50.on the ground is that the boot of Israeli military occupation has been
:07:51. > :07:54.on the Palestinian neck for 50 years. Incremental changes in the
:07:55. > :07:58.business field is not going to solve the political crisis. I wake up
:07:59. > :08:02.every day trying to create jobs in Palestine and the thing that stops
:08:03. > :08:08.us doing it the way we are supposed to is the Israeli Government as they
:08:09. > :08:13.maintain this 50 year military occupation. I will believe it when I
:08:14. > :08:19.see it, and to see it means to get the boot of occupation off our neck.
:08:20. > :08:22.Even if it does not start by ending the occupation, by creating a
:08:23. > :08:28.Palestinian state, you know better than I just how long that will take
:08:29. > :08:33.and has been taking, if they make moves to make life easier for
:08:34. > :08:37.Palestinians, to create the possibility of creating jobs,
:08:38. > :08:42.encouraging investment, would that be a step, however small, in the
:08:43. > :08:46.right direction? Definitely, every step taken to juice the pressures of
:08:47. > :08:50.this very volatile reality are welcome. But the steps need to be
:08:51. > :08:55.taken in a sustainable way, and they also need to be placed into the
:08:56. > :09:00.context of resolving this conflict. We may not resolve the conflict for
:09:01. > :09:07.another 100 years, but will Israel remain micromanaging the Palestinian
:09:08. > :09:14.economy? That cannot be sustainable. Every step forward that looks
:09:15. > :09:19.positive, that allows us to breeze a bit is welcome. But we will not be
:09:20. > :09:24.tricked into thinking our permit military occupier has any idea to
:09:25. > :09:30.allow asked to be free. That is what has to happen for negotiations to
:09:31. > :09:35.start. And what about the entry of President Trump who makes it clear
:09:36. > :09:38.he has no rule book, will take a totally original way of approaching
:09:39. > :09:44.the process, could that make a difference? I don't believe what he
:09:45. > :09:47.says. He approached the region exactly the same way other
:09:48. > :09:53.presidents did. By dumping more arms into an already collapsing region
:09:54. > :09:56.where people are dying daily, propping up governments which are
:09:57. > :10:01.not representative like Saudi Arabia, and then coming to Palestine
:10:02. > :10:06.and on his first day here breaking international law by taking the
:10:07. > :10:10.Israeli Prime Minister's invitation to go to the Western Wall, which is
:10:11. > :10:15.in the middle of occupied territory. He would do well to read
:10:16. > :10:18.international law and put people around him that don't have the
:10:19. > :10:25.conflict of interest that they currently have. Thank you very much
:10:26. > :10:29.for joining us. And there you get some of the cynicism and scepticism
:10:30. > :10:36.of the Palestinian side, even among those who would like to see a new
:10:37. > :10:41.peace process. We will hear more about the Palestinian sentiments
:10:42. > :10:53.tomorrow when President Trump meets the panellists Delyn -- Palestinian
:10:54. > :10:58.president. It is clear there is good chemistry between Trump and
:10:59. > :10:59.Netanyahu and their wives. They are having dinner now. I'm sure they
:11:00. > :11:01.have a lot to talk about. Well many a US president has tried
:11:02. > :11:04.and failed when it comes to striking a peace deal
:11:05. > :11:06.between the Israelis One man who knows the process
:11:07. > :11:10.and players well is George Mitchell, who served as President Obama's
:11:11. > :11:22.Middle East Envoy. The president speaking in Israel
:11:23. > :11:28.today talked of array opportunity for harmony, prosperity and peace in
:11:29. > :11:32.the Middle East between Israelis and Palestinians. Do you agree there is
:11:33. > :11:37.this opportunity and can he take advantage of it? I hope and pray he
:11:38. > :11:44.will. It is very difficult now stop there is a high level of mistrust,
:11:45. > :11:47.polarisation on both sides. The two state solution, which is the only
:11:48. > :11:53.feasible solution, is the losing ground in both Israel and among
:11:54. > :11:55.Palestinians. So it is a huge challenge but the effort must be
:11:56. > :12:00.made because the history of the region is that when there is no
:12:01. > :12:03.visible effort to bring about a resolution of conflict, violence
:12:04. > :12:07.tends to flare. The danger of violence now is much greater than in
:12:08. > :12:11.the past because of the tremendous up evil in the entire region. I was
:12:12. > :12:15.talking to senior White House officials before the trip and it
:12:16. > :12:21.seemed to me they are very optimistic that sheer force of
:12:22. > :12:27.personality Donald Trump can do what you, amongst others, have failed to
:12:28. > :12:32.do. Do you think that is enough? I don't think personality is enough.
:12:33. > :12:37.But I hope and pray that it comes about by whatever means. The reality
:12:38. > :12:40.is that there are huge differences between Israelis and Palestinians
:12:41. > :12:46.and all the core issues. But they could be overcome if there were not
:12:47. > :12:51.the very deep hostility and mistrust that exists, not just amongst the
:12:52. > :12:59.peoples but the leaders. When the president and Prime Minister in 2010
:13:00. > :13:05.I was in the room. Secretary Clinton was the only other person. And it
:13:06. > :13:12.did not bring traction in the way we had hoped. That if they met it would
:13:13. > :13:16.give them reason to continue. It validated their worst concerns about
:13:17. > :13:22.the other. So what this President's team seemed to believe is that if
:13:23. > :13:32.President Trump can build a good relationship with Netanyahu you and
:13:33. > :13:37.president of us then that will be a catalyst, he will be able to do
:13:38. > :13:41.something different because he is a good negotiator. Do you see that in
:13:42. > :13:47.Mr Trump? Do you see that capacity? I hope it is there. For the sake of
:13:48. > :13:55.peace in the middle east and for American interests. So far at least,
:13:56. > :13:59.the conflict has not been able to be resolved on the basis of
:14:00. > :14:03.personality, and there have been many strong and powerful
:14:04. > :14:06.personalities involved. A dozen presidents, 20 secretaries of state.
:14:07. > :14:11.Many Israeli and Palestinian leaders. At times and circumstances
:14:12. > :14:16.change, they are not the same now as they were six or seven years ago and
:14:17. > :14:20.much different than ten or 20 years ago. So it is possible, not likely
:14:21. > :14:28.at this time, but I commend the effort. The president has made it
:14:29. > :14:32.clear during this trip that the primary focus of America's foreign
:14:33. > :14:38.policy in the Middle East is Iran. He will around the Gulf state
:14:39. > :14:45.friends and the Israelis and use that as a way to distance the world
:14:46. > :14:50.from Iran. Is the degree to which she is doing that appropriate and
:14:51. > :14:56.helpful? I feel the trip was most useful in the following respects:
:14:57. > :15:03.Isis and Al-Qaeda and those affiliated with them want the
:15:04. > :15:10.conflict to be and to be seen as a conflict between all of Islam and
:15:11. > :15:17.all of the West, led by the US. Donald Trump's prior rhetoric and
:15:18. > :15:22.team a slim ban on all Moslems, played right into Isis's point of
:15:23. > :15:28.view. It furthered the impression that they wanted further to. In this
:15:29. > :15:32.trip he has essentially reversed that position. So if nothing else
:15:33. > :15:37.happens on this trip, that makes it significant. We did not get to Iran,
:15:38. > :15:40.we will have to come back to that. Thank you for coming in.
:15:41. > :15:49.A lot of people were saying that strange in rhetoric is welcome. You
:15:50. > :15:53.were saying in that interview, you were at the White House last week,
:15:54. > :15:58.and one of the first things they did when they got off the plane in
:15:59. > :16:02.Riyadh was signed $100 billion arms deal with the Saudis. Surely that
:16:03. > :16:05.has unnerved the Israelis somewhat. Why do you tell us what they are
:16:06. > :16:12.trying to do with the Gulf Arab states? It's interesting. That arms
:16:13. > :16:17.deal, I think, it is part of getting sunny Gulf states to get part of the
:16:18. > :16:21.Burton sharing. And I hear from the White House that it is about the
:16:22. > :16:26.fight against extremism and about providing a counterweight to Iran.
:16:27. > :16:31.Throughout the trip to Riyadh, and to Israel, there was the conference
:16:32. > :16:35.restraint of this will give us ballast against Iran. Interestingly,
:16:36. > :16:42.Donald Trump has not ripped up the Iranians nuclear deal. So is some of
:16:43. > :16:47.this rhetoric to appease people who want America to take a tougher
:16:48. > :16:52.stance? The aim is to get Arab states to have a counter to run
:16:53. > :16:57.themselves. But the evidence is is it would become like a Nato deal
:16:58. > :17:03.from Gulf Arab states. And that is exactly the language they use. A
:17:04. > :17:05.Nato type arrangement against Iran. We said last week.
:17:06. > :17:08.We said last week it was a good time to leave Washington and the furore
:17:09. > :17:15.that surrounded the President, with the appointment of special
:17:16. > :17:27.He was asked if he betrayed a source.
:17:28. > :17:29.Just so you understand, I never mentioned the word
:17:30. > :17:31.Never mentioned it during theatconversation.
:17:32. > :17:34.You were all saying I did, so you had another story wrong.
:17:35. > :17:47.I think that is the first time we have heard the president confirm
:17:48. > :17:52.what intelligence sources had been keen here not to confirm which is
:17:53. > :18:00.that Israel was the source of the information handed to the Russians!
:18:01. > :18:04.Allies who are worrying about whether they can share secrets with
:18:05. > :18:09.Donald Trump, the fact that he will confirm things in public that are
:18:10. > :18:18.meant to be secret, and clearly wanted to... But when he sticks to
:18:19. > :18:23.the strip -- script he's good. But you saw him, he shut everybody up
:18:24. > :18:29.and wanted to make that point. Yeah, he had to get that in, didn't he?
:18:30. > :18:31.There and in Washington the enquiries and Congress will continue
:18:32. > :18:35.while he is away. And the Sunday television talk shows were full of
:18:36. > :18:40.it, including reaction to a late-breaking story from Friday.
:18:41. > :18:48.There was another report from that conversation in the Oval Office. I
:18:49. > :18:57.just fired the head of the FBI, said the president. He was crazy, a
:18:58. > :19:06.here is some of the weekend reaction. I don't remember exact
:19:07. > :19:09.what he said. He said he feels hamstrung. I'm almost speechless, I
:19:10. > :19:15.don't know why someone would say something like that. But I know Mr
:19:16. > :19:21.lover of is the stooge of a thug and a murderer. President Trump calls
:19:22. > :19:24.this a witchhunt. What you think? I wouldn't use that term. These issues
:19:25. > :19:28.are being raised in the press. People are going to the press who
:19:29. > :19:31.appear to be in the know or at least pretend to be, they leak information
:19:32. > :19:40.and the press reports it. These questions need to be answered. John
:19:41. > :19:46.McCain. Do we take it that Comey sought this quote and went, right,
:19:47. > :19:50.that's it. I'm going to testify. Let's put it this way. If I called
:19:51. > :19:59.you a nut job and at how would you feel? You can call me that off air
:20:00. > :20:02.but not on air! But he's a proud guy, his integrity is potent to
:20:03. > :20:10.James Comey. The president has not made any friends and intelligence
:20:11. > :20:12.agencies and by firing Mr Comey he can probably expect worse. I think
:20:13. > :20:16.it's worth reminding everybody of the investigations that are taking
:20:17. > :20:21.place. You have enquiries into Russian interference and the
:20:22. > :20:26.election and links between Russia and Trump. Wheels have the in the
:20:27. > :20:34.Senate judicial committee into Michael Flynn. Then there's the
:20:35. > :20:44.enquiry within the house oversight committee into macro one -- Comey's
:20:45. > :20:51.memos. And then the Justice Department investigation lot. So
:20:52. > :20:54.what they are saying is that even though Robert Muller will take the
:20:55. > :21:01.lead on everything, these enquiries will continue. Is amazing they
:21:02. > :21:07.getting anything else done. With that amount of enquiries into links
:21:08. > :21:10.to Russia. Here is what people are starting to say, top Democrats have
:21:11. > :21:13.said to me, we like the investigations, we want to make sure
:21:14. > :21:19.we can keep our role in them, we don't want them all handed over to
:21:20. > :21:22.the FBI. But we also don't want them wrapped up too soon because we hope
:21:23. > :21:26.they are still highly of the president as he goes into the
:21:27. > :21:32.mid-term elections next year cars we feel this is good for Democrats. So
:21:33. > :21:38.everybody is playing a game here. And it's good, because that will be
:21:39. > :21:44.seen in the public domain whereas Robert Muller will be very private.
:21:45. > :21:47.And could go on for years. Something that will not is the British
:21:48. > :21:47.election campaign. Tonight the Prime Minister talks
:21:48. > :21:56.to Andrew Neil on the BBC. And she is under pressure
:21:57. > :21:58.because the polls are narrowing. Yes, when the election was called
:21:59. > :22:05.the Conservative lead Now looking at a poll of polls
:22:06. > :22:07.the Conservative Party is on 46%. The Labour Party at 33%
:22:08. > :22:09.and the Liberal Democrats But some polls have even brought
:22:10. > :22:14.the lead down to single digits. The principles on which we have
:22:15. > :22:22.based our social care policy remain We need to ensure
:22:23. > :22:25.that we have long-term We need to be able to
:22:26. > :22:30.ensure that we can fund We are doing the honest thing
:22:31. > :22:33.about putting a proposal to the British people
:22:34. > :22:35.and they will make How can it be honest,
:22:36. > :22:39.Prime Minister, to reject a cap in your manifesto and four days
:22:40. > :22:41.later say, we are What we set out in our manifesto
:22:42. > :22:49.was a series of principles. It was to say to people,
:22:50. > :22:53.first of all, this is a big issue, we need to address it
:22:54. > :22:56.and we are being honest that we must fix it
:22:57. > :22:59.and that is what I want to do. I am not going to bury my head
:23:00. > :23:02.in the sand, I am not going to play politics with it,
:23:03. > :23:05.which is what Jeremy You are just going to
:23:06. > :23:08.change your mind already. Prime Minister under pressure and
:23:09. > :23:14.some of her promises. And just to say, viewers
:23:15. > :23:17.in the UK can get up to date with all the events
