:00:00. > :00:00.Mike Embley is here with the day's news in 20 minutes. Time now for a

:00:00. > :00:07.look at the news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago

:00:08. > :00:15.in ABC World News with David Muir. Welcome. We are in California for

:00:16. > :00:19.the breaking news, millions of the south`west bracing for flash floods,

:00:20. > :00:24.damaging winds, sending a train already off the line. The raging

:00:25. > :00:27.fires with homes destroyed in California and thousands sent

:00:28. > :00:34.running. We are here on the frontline. The manhunt under way.

:00:35. > :00:38.The deadly ambush. State troopers targeted. This picture released.

:00:39. > :00:43.Authorities say he is armed and dangerous. An American quiz, are we

:00:44. > :00:49.in your hometown? What can withstand a truck and still fit in your

:00:50. > :01:06.nightstand? Any guesses? Made in America.

:01:07. > :01:11.Good evening. In California, we are dealing with record`breaking heat

:01:12. > :01:20.and wildfires. Millions are bracing for dangerous flooding. In LA,

:01:21. > :01:28.temperatures in triple digits. These images from Arizona. The threat of

:01:29. > :01:32.flash flooding is growing. Millions want to play the tension to the

:01:33. > :01:35.forecast because flooding can happen in minutes. The high wind at the

:01:36. > :01:43.night, this freight train taken off the tracks. Our team is across the

:01:44. > :01:48.weather zone and we begin in Arizona where they are preparing for the

:01:49. > :01:55.fast moving floods. After hammering the Mexican coast

:01:56. > :02:00.with 125 mph wind, Hurricane Odile is bringing monsoonal moisture,

:02:01. > :02:08.sparking storms, the railing trains and ripping off roofs. Residents are

:02:09. > :02:16.bracing for the storm. By Gerard flooded last time. Last week, record

:02:17. > :02:25.rain turned his highway into a water filled graveyard of cars that make

:02:26. > :02:30.my garage. This week, Odile, created twice as much rain. Some residents

:02:31. > :02:35.here well looting local markets. Tens of thousands waiting to get out

:02:36. > :02:36.of the resort areas. These friends rode out the storm at this hotel

:02:37. > :02:52.near the airport. The airport is closed to commercial

:02:53. > :02:56.flights but the women were flown out on a military plane today as the

:02:57. > :03:03.Mexican government airlifted tourists out.

:03:04. > :03:04.This road and the sandbags are this neighbourhood's last line of defence

:03:05. > :03:18.against another raging flood. Ginger, first the floods, what are

:03:19. > :03:26.we facing? We are on flood watch. You could see some six inches of

:03:27. > :03:29.rain in the coming days. The remnants of the hurricane making

:03:30. > :03:35.their way up. That will be into Thursday. Look at the moisture.

:03:36. > :03:42.Phoenix makes it close to three inches. To give you some

:03:43. > :03:49.perspective, usually you would have about 75% of an inch for September.

:03:50. > :03:57.Already, 2.5 inches. In September, it could get up to 5.6. Thank you.

:03:58. > :04:03.The other major weather story we are following, the record heat, the dry

:04:04. > :04:08.conditions, and now this. At least 15 wildfires raging up and down the

:04:09. > :04:12.west Coast. Evacuations under way, nearly 2000 families having to move.

:04:13. > :04:19.Including these schoolchildren, covering their faces, struggling to

:04:20. > :04:25.breathe. We can go to the front lines.

:04:26. > :04:29.In just five hours, an entire community swallowed up by flames. A

:04:30. > :04:40.community centre scorched. A school decimated. Holmes turned into ash.

:04:41. > :04:44.That was his bed. Nothing left. This woman left her home at eight o'clock

:04:45. > :04:50.in the morning. When she returned, it was gone. All of my son's Marine

:04:51. > :04:59.medals were hair. Heavy winds sped up already fast

:05:00. > :05:08.moving flames. Take a look at these streets. That is by a retired

:05:09. > :05:18.one fire near Sacramento is bringing at least 11,000 acres. This fire

:05:19. > :05:22.destroyed so much. Firefighters helping homeowners find what little

:05:23. > :05:27.is left in the rubble. Home upon home burned to the ground. In one

:05:28. > :05:35.neighbourhood, a dozen homes gone. Tonight, the country's top general

:05:36. > :05:43.raising a controversial possibility. US troops in combat in

:05:44. > :05:49.Iraq again. Keep us honest on this. Boots on the ground in Iraq, that is

:05:50. > :05:52.not what the President said. One thing the President has been clear

:05:53. > :05:59.about is there will be no US ground troops. We will not get dragged into

:06:00. > :06:06.a ground war. But the Bush seemed open little between General Dempsey

:06:07. > :06:09.said US troops could be embedded to help identify targets for

:06:10. > :06:15.airstrikes. It all comes down to how you define combat. The White House

:06:16. > :06:19.says those would not be considered combat troops. But that would be a

:06:20. > :06:27.dangerous mission, no matter what it is called. Thank you. Now to the

:06:28. > :06:31.other breaking news involving US troops. President Obama sending up

:06:32. > :06:38.to 3000 American military to the hot zone in Africa to help fight the

:06:39. > :06:42.deadly Ebola virus. He said it is spreading out of control. What if

:06:43. > :06:51.the virus goes airborne? Could it come here? We go to the front lines

:06:52. > :06:55.of West Africa. I saw first`hand doctors stretched

:06:56. > :07:04.to the limit battling Ebola in west Africa. Today, President Obama

:07:05. > :07:09.sounding the alarm. Sending 3000 American troops to the hot zone. It

:07:10. > :07:13.is a potential threat to global security if these countries break

:07:14. > :07:19.down. The American troops will build 17 health`care centres, training 500

:07:20. > :07:27.health`care workers. We saw doctors with so little. This makeshift

:07:28. > :07:30.clinic is a barebones operation. The final part is putting this would on.

:07:31. > :07:35.They do not have hoods that are ready`made.

:07:36. > :07:42.The longer the outbreak lasts, the greater chance that it could be set

:07:43. > :07:47.to an airborne form. It could come to America in a global pandemic. We

:07:48. > :07:56.spoke to a man who survived the deadly disease. We cannot think that

:07:57. > :08:00.the Atlantic Ocean will protect us. With all the encouraging news I

:08:01. > :08:03.heard, one thing is missing. The president says our troops will not

:08:04. > :08:11.be treating Ebola patients. Who will? There are so few doctors in

:08:12. > :08:15.west Africa right now. Now to that manhunt on the way

:08:16. > :08:18.tonight for the gunman who ambushed two state troopers in Pennsylvania,

:08:19. > :08:29.killing a young father. Officials are asking your will `` for your

:08:30. > :08:34.help. We look at the search to track him

:08:35. > :08:40.down before he kills again. Police are desperately hunting for

:08:41. > :08:41.this man. He is at large and is considered armed and extremely

:08:42. > :08:55.dangerous. Authorities say he is survivalist and an experienced

:08:56. > :08:58.shooter. He has made statements about wanting to kill border

:08:59. > :09:04.enforcement officers and also to commit mass acts of violence. One

:09:05. > :09:10.officer killed and another seriously injured in Friday night's brazen

:09:11. > :09:12.attack. Officials say they received a crucial tip from a local resident

:09:13. > :09:23.about a car police said they found his driver 's

:09:24. > :09:29.licence, camouflage a `` face paint and rifle casings. That can really

:09:30. > :09:36.propel law`enforcement over. Police are hoping the public will help in

:09:37. > :09:42.this massive manhunt. There is still much more ahead. One

:09:43. > :09:48.of the most alarming dangers. Cars coming in the opposite direction and

:09:49. > :09:52.caught on camera tonight, how one officer stopped a tragedy in the

:09:53. > :09:54.nick of time. And the stunt pilot performing his big trick. You will

:09:55. > :10:44.not believe what happens next. Next tonight, one of the most

:10:45. > :10:48.dangerous things happening on the highway today. We will see one

:10:49. > :10:57.officer stopping a tragedy in the making. A driver going the wrong

:10:58. > :11:02.way, cars and children in the way. The bright lights are coming head

:11:03. > :11:07.on. And apparently intoxicated driver going the wrong way down this

:11:08. > :11:12.Texas highway. And watch what officers discover in the back seat

:11:13. > :11:21.when they finally stopped the car. It is just the latest runway driver

:11:22. > :11:25.caught on camera. This woman driving the wrong way for six miles, nearly

:11:26. > :11:34.hitting a sheriff's deputy along the way. More than 1100 people dying

:11:35. > :11:37.each year in runway crashes. When the accidents happen, they are

:11:38. > :11:41.usually head on and much more likely to be fatal. If you see the light is

:11:42. > :11:47.coming at you, is anything you can do? Stay out of the fast lanes. It

:11:48. > :11:54.gives you the ability to move to the left. The real problem is alcohol.

:11:55. > :12:01.40% of runway driver as were under the influence. An old problem, but

:12:02. > :12:06.new solutions. From the simple, lights on the sign, to the

:12:07. > :12:11.high`tech, reflectors showing red when you are going the wrong way.

:12:12. > :12:16.Most of these drivers strike at night and during the weekend. That

:12:17. > :12:22.is the advice. The especially alert during those times.

:12:23. > :12:29.And a close show at an air show at what a mother. A plane goes into

:12:30. > :12:33.freefall for five agonising seconds. The pilots running away with only

:12:34. > :12:36.minor injuries. And American astronauts will soon be

:12:37. > :12:49.getting a mate in America right into space. `` made. We were getting a

:12:50. > :12:52.look inside. The modules that have been delivering supplies to the

:12:53. > :12:55.International Space Station. Americans have been hitching a ride

:12:56. > :13:00.with Russians since the retirement of the space shuttle ride three

:13:01. > :13:06.years ago. And finally, made in America. We

:13:07. > :13:10.have been to every corner of this country. This evening, a bright idea

:13:11. > :13:17.that is still creating jobs. They say the Chinese try to steal it. But

:13:18. > :13:25.a fabric maker who is shining his own spotlight on it.

:13:26. > :13:30.Everybody lined up in Seattle. We are now pulling up the Ontario

:13:31. > :13:35.California. We are in Southern California. The mountains in the

:13:36. > :13:43.distance, inside this factory, a Mt overcome. Inventor of the Mac late.

:13:44. > :13:47.An indestructible flashlight. He said he came up with the idea behind

:13:48. > :13:55.this garaged tour, 60 years ago. This looks a lot different from

:13:56. > :14:04.1955. This factory in California, every part labelled made in the USA.

:14:05. > :14:11.Tonight, 85 countries around the world are buying it. 25 new hires

:14:12. > :14:18.just this year. Many of the faces have been here for decades. 16

:14:19. > :14:24.years. And listen to what Gloria told me. Still selling. This is the

:14:25. > :14:30.best flashlight there is. She is still saying that after how many

:14:31. > :14:34.years? 37 years. The company has had offers to make them elsewhere. Tony

:14:35. > :14:41.has always said no. The biggest challenge came when Chinese

:14:42. > :14:46.factories began copying him. He sued and he did something else. Piling up

:14:47. > :14:55.all of the fakes and taking them out. Fighting and tonight driving

:14:56. > :15:06.the next generation of flashlights. Every one of them polished. With

:15:07. > :15:15.little from us. `` a little help. In the night that flashlight has three

:15:16. > :15:22.words in mind. Made in America. I will see you tomorrow night.

:15:23. > :15:28.For watching. Hello once again. I want to start

:15:29. > :15:32.off by picking out one or two main themes that we are likely to see

:15:33. > :15:34.repeated over the next few days, with regards to our weather right

:15:35. > :15:35.across the British
