:00:00. > :00:08.the news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago, in ABC

:00:09. > :00:12.World News with David Muir. Welcome to World News. Tonight, the breaking

:00:13. > :00:16.news. A reported tornado on the ground in Nebraska. Severe storms

:00:17. > :00:23.hit much of the country this hour. Hale, high winds, and possible

:00:24. > :00:28.twisters. Our storm chasers tracking it all. The note and a new

:00:29. > :00:33.investigation, what an army sergeant wrote just before he disappeared

:00:34. > :00:37.from his base and was held captive by the Taliban. Tonight, we all saw

:00:38. > :00:40.the videos. What we didn't see, the video at the end that Bowe Bergdahl

:00:41. > :00:45.never made public and what it told him. And who hasn't cracked their

:00:46. > :01:03.smartphone? Tonight, the surprising results. The simple step which could

:01:04. > :01:08.solve it. Tonight, the results. Good evening. Diane is on assignment

:01:09. > :01:13.tonight. We begin with the severe weather this power. Which is coming

:01:14. > :01:18.in from Omaha, Nebraska. Whipping winds, dark skies, and a twist that

:01:19. > :01:25.touching down. All part of dangerous storms on the move tonight. Look at

:01:26. > :01:28.the radar. This system powering up well into the night. The forecast

:01:29. > :01:32.for the next wave five hours in a moment. But leading off with

:01:33. > :01:43.pictures and sounds of the storms hitting right now. Sirens blaring in

:01:44. > :01:47.Omaha, Nebraska tonight. Tornado warning. Skies going dark as the

:01:48. > :01:53.severe weather porches heartland. Our correspondent was in Omaha.

:01:54. > :01:57.Those severe thunderstorms have finally arrived. You might be able

:01:58. > :02:01.to see just how fast those clouds are rolling behind me. We have had

:02:02. > :02:09.lightning, thunder, hail, and rain. The concern is that streets may

:02:10. > :02:13.flood. Nearly 100 mph winds have been shredding trees and knocking

:02:14. > :02:21.over trailers. Huge Hale has been peppering the landscape. Dropping

:02:22. > :02:29.baseball sized monsters. It has been clawing at homes and smashing

:02:30. > :02:32.through windshields. Incredible pictures. You have had storm reports

:02:33. > :02:34.coming in this hour. Close to 100 storm reports, including damaging

:02:35. > :02:38.winds. It is not done. We have a whole night ahead of us, especially

:02:39. > :02:42.looking at parts of Illinois and Indiana. They are next with that

:02:43. > :02:48.initial storm. It is not over. That hot pink is a rare, relatively high

:02:49. > :02:52.risk area, still including Omaha all the way to Des Moines. I also want

:02:53. > :02:55.to point out that this doesn't end tonight, it goes through tomorrow

:02:56. > :03:03.and will go into the Ohio River Valley. Pressure system will form

:03:04. > :03:06.through the Rockies. We are going to move on now to the other major

:03:07. > :03:09.story. The intention focused on the army sergeant freed by the Taliban.

:03:10. > :03:12.Tonight, what we now know about the note he wrote before leaving his

:03:13. > :03:16.base. There is something else as well. After years of studying the

:03:17. > :03:19.images, his appearance changing and his uniform replaced. At times you

:03:20. > :03:23.can see at least one of his captors with him, tonight we learned that

:03:24. > :03:26.was a final video we didn't see which most troubled US authorities.

:03:27. > :03:42.What was in it? Our correspondent with what she is learning tonight.

:03:43. > :03:46.Bowe Bergdahl is innocent until proven guilty although they will

:03:47. > :03:52.want to speak to him as soon as he is recovered enough to talk. He

:03:53. > :03:57.wrote a note before disappearing saying that he was disillusioned

:03:58. > :04:00.with the mission in Afghanistan and an army investigation earlier

:04:01. > :04:05.concluded that he had walked away from his remote base on his own.

:04:06. > :04:10.Fellow soldiers now say that there were signs. He wanted to know how he

:04:11. > :04:15.could send his computer and some blogs home and wanted to know how he

:04:16. > :04:21.could get some money. Officials are not certain how he ended up with the

:04:22. > :04:25.Taliban but the young man who loved motorcycles and had performed ballet

:04:26. > :04:27.in his hometown was so extremely idealistic that he may have thought

:04:28. > :04:43.that he could bring the two sides together. In the first video, he was

:04:44. > :04:48.asked about soldiers who go AWOL. And it was those videos that US

:04:49. > :04:52.officials were watching closely, images of Bowe Bergdahl appearing

:04:53. > :04:57.calm and grateful for his treatment gradually giving way to a face full

:04:58. > :05:03.of fear and panic. Release me please. I am begging you. We learned

:05:04. > :05:06.today that there was another video released this year and only seen by

:05:07. > :05:13.the US government that sparked the greatest concern. The once

:05:14. > :05:18.freshfaced soldier was clearly becoming frail and disengaged. That

:05:19. > :05:25.is why there was such urgency going after him and once the deal was

:05:26. > :05:29.secured according to the official, as for the accusations of desertion,

:05:30. > :05:33.that is a crime punishable by jail time but no officials we are

:05:34. > :05:39.speaking to believe that is on the table currently given his years of

:05:40. > :05:42.captivity. The US military is now saying it will look into any

:05:43. > :05:47.potential misconduct on the part of the American soldier but tonight,

:05:48. > :05:51.questions are being asked weather or not the White House dug into any of

:05:52. > :06:02.this before making the decision to exchange prisoners and tonight

:06:03. > :06:05.President Obama is firing back. Here in Europe talking about defending

:06:06. > :06:10.our allies, the president is having to defend his own decision.

:06:11. > :06:18.Regardless of the circumstances, whatever they may turn out to be, we

:06:19. > :06:23.still get an American soldier back. What the White House said initially

:06:24. > :06:32.about Bowe Bergdahl is now in question. He was per trade as

:06:33. > :06:35.something as a hero on Sunday. But today, news is that the Army is

:06:36. > :06:46.prepared to investigate him. How about the five Taliban exchanged in

:06:47. > :06:51.the deal? Is there the possibility of some of them trying to return to

:06:52. > :06:58.activities that are detrimental to us? Absolutely. Finally there is the

:06:59. > :07:04.man's father, clearly doing anything to help. He joined the president on

:07:05. > :07:08.Saturday to help announce the release and we now know that he has

:07:09. > :07:17.tweeted directly to a Taliban spokesman. For all the criticism and

:07:18. > :07:24.second`guessing, a White House is still facing many questions. The

:07:25. > :07:28.President's top advisers insist that it was an easy call and as one

:07:29. > :07:35.senior official told me tonight, any other president would have done the

:07:36. > :07:41.same thing. The five detainees are now living in luxury villas in

:07:42. > :07:43.Qatar, their families allowed to live with them and tonight officials

:07:44. > :07:51.we spoke to were unclear as to whether they were prisoners or they

:07:52. > :07:56.were free. Qatar's capital city has made itself into a modern`day desert

:07:57. > :08:00.oasis and now the five freed Taliban leaders will be able to travel

:08:01. > :08:04.anywhere within the country and enjoy its pleasures over the next

:08:05. > :08:14.year. One official told us that they are not prisoners. I can still have

:08:15. > :08:20.conversations with the Taliban, especially those who are in Qatar.

:08:21. > :08:25.An official told us that they have their families with them and after a

:08:26. > :08:29.year they can go home. Home would be Afghanistan and the areas controlled

:08:30. > :08:35.by the Taliban. Still engaged in fierce combat with American

:08:36. > :08:40.soldiers. US intelligence reports found that 29% of freed Guantanamo

:08:41. > :08:44.detainees are confirmed or expected to have rejoined the fight,

:08:45. > :08:51.including one who became the senior military mentor of the Taliban. We

:08:52. > :08:55.were struck by this today, an official telling us that they are

:08:56. > :09:03.not prisoners? That's right. The State Parliament said that President

:09:04. > :09:09.Obama had assertions from the Qatar government that they would be

:09:10. > :09:12.prisoners and the spokesperson we spoke to refuse to say whether or

:09:13. > :09:19.not there would be restrictions on them. A search after explosions were

:09:20. > :09:24.discovered in a California Park. The dramatic conclusion to the manhunt

:09:25. > :09:32.as a San Francisco man is arrested and captured by the FBI with people

:09:33. > :09:43.who knew him leftist on. `` left stunned. Police struggled to take

:09:44. > :09:54.down the 32`year`old man. His captor culminated `` capture, concluded a

:09:55. > :09:57.manhunt. We found items in his apartment that caused us great

:09:58. > :10:02.concern. Tonight we find out the specifics of what so spooked the

:10:03. > :10:08.FBI. Components of a bomb that could be detonated by remote control, a

:10:09. > :10:15.device that the FBI claims were made to maim and kill. He is well`known

:10:16. > :10:17.as a social media and political correspondent but there was no

:10:18. > :10:23.indication that he was planning to harm anyone or himself. He was a

:10:24. > :10:29.very dangerous and desperate person. Tonight, Elise said they could take

:10:30. > :10:37.no chances. Those who knew him are shocked and cannot believe that he

:10:38. > :10:39.was building bombs. To Syria where voting has taken place in the

:10:40. > :10:50.presidential election with President Bush are all aside `` Bashar

:10:51. > :10:57.al`Assad expected to easily take the election. A scientific discovery of

:10:58. > :11:06.a mega earth discovered 560 light`years away, with one Harvard

:11:07. > :11:08.astrophysicist calling it a" Godzilla Earth" with positive

:11:09. > :11:13.implications for life although it may be too hot. The simple solution

:11:14. > :11:24.to protect your smart phone from this, the cracked surface. We have

:11:25. > :11:26.tested this solution in water, and being runover and here are the

:11:27. > :12:09.surprising results. How many of you are walking around

:12:10. > :12:14.like me with a broken phone? We asked you to send us pictures of

:12:15. > :12:18.your cracked screens and it seems I am not alone. Americans have spent

:12:19. > :12:23.$6 billion on replacements in 2007 and that is just with iPhones. We

:12:24. > :12:28.came up with a simple solution on how to protect your phone. So you

:12:29. > :12:35.have just spent $200 on a new phone, one of about a billion sold

:12:36. > :12:41.each year and you have trashed it. You are not alone. Turns out there

:12:42. > :12:48.are many products promising to keep them safe and many people online

:12:49. > :12:52.pushing them to the limit to find a true safe way to protect your

:12:53. > :12:57.phone. So we decided to get some real answers and take a look at one

:12:58. > :13:08.of the more durable brands, the author box `` Otter Box. I am going

:13:09. > :13:15.to test my iPhone with it and put it to the test. We will test it against

:13:16. > :13:27.the $10 gel case. The first test, the skill test `` spill. They have

:13:28. > :13:34.both survived. Test two. The Dunk test. They sat inside for five

:13:35. > :13:41.seconds. The Otter Box worked but be gel case, not so much. The Otter Box

:13:42. > :13:54.promises to protect from balls up to six points six feet. The phone is

:13:55. > :14:01.fine. He gel case is fine as well. We now go beyond claims, driving

:14:02. > :14:14.over your phone. While, it looks like it's OK. `` wow. But get a load

:14:15. > :14:22.of this. The $10 case? No way. It is fine. They were so surprised by that

:14:23. > :14:27.that we tossed it around and still nothing is wrong. What before you

:14:28. > :14:35.think it is the phone that is indestructible, we took all the

:14:36. > :14:40.cases off. Done. It is shattered. We got calls about the crazy man in

:14:41. > :14:45.Central Park and it was just him. I do say it is the edge of the case?

:14:46. > :14:48.That's right, you want to make sure that the edges are protected so that

:14:49. > :14:53.it is the edge that is hitting the floor and not the screen. A headline

:14:54. > :15:01.about food that may be on your dinner table tonight. Many fast food

:15:02. > :15:09.restaurants have removed additives in their food and tonight Panera

:15:10. > :15:14.Bread is doing the same. A video that will warm your heart. Soldiers

:15:15. > :15:20.in Georgia walking information and singing as they go, one soldier's

:15:21. > :15:26.girlfriend in the distance never suspect a thing. He drops to one

:15:27. > :15:34.knee, popped the question and she says yes. And the platoon approves.

:15:35. > :15:43.From a proposal to a modern American wedding in Minnesota posing when the

:15:44. > :15:55.deck, well, there it goes. The bride is soaked and guests arrived after

:15:56. > :15:59.Justin out `` just an hour but they decided not to let anything get in

:16:00. > :16:14.the way of their special day. All of us here, good night. Wednesday is

:16:15. > :16:22.going to be a wet one for many of us so it is umbrellas and waterproof at

:16:23. > :16:24.the ready. It will be wet across England, right across from the

:16:25. > :16:25.Southeast to the
