:00:14. > :00:17.Welcome to world news. Outrage. The UPS Christmas fiasco. The packages

:00:18. > :00:23.that are still not delivered. What UPS is now saying and what you are

:00:24. > :00:27.saying as well. The Christmas rescue caught on tape. The hero officer on

:00:28. > :00:34.his way to work suddenly put to work. The dramatic moments. Held

:00:35. > :00:39.hostage. The American and the new video servicing tonight, and on it,

:00:40. > :00:40.his message for President Obama. It seems that I have been totally

:00:41. > :00:57.abandoned. Good evening. It is great to have

:00:58. > :01:01.you with us. On this day after Christmas, something questions for

:01:02. > :01:05.shipping giant UPS. Thousands of families across the country who

:01:06. > :01:09.ordered more than able week ago are still asking where are they gives.

:01:10. > :01:15.The delivery men and women in overdrive. Their bosses left

:01:16. > :01:21.explaining where it happened. The major retailers have been pulled

:01:22. > :01:34.into it as well. So many of you at home giving us your story.

:01:35. > :01:38.What UPS is now saying. It is the Christmas headache that shoppers

:01:39. > :01:42.were not expect in. Customers counting on UPS to deliver packages

:01:43. > :01:49.on time but ending up with delayed notices instead of gifts.

:01:50. > :01:55.Ironically, our items are sitting in Pennsylvania. UPS made my naughty

:01:56. > :01:59.list this year. UPS and FedEx said the problems were created by the

:02:00. > :02:03.perfect storm, the bad weather, more packages, and the shorter delivery

:02:04. > :02:11.season. They spent the day apologising to customers.

:02:12. > :02:17.The pressure getting to those delivery people as well. One UPS

:02:18. > :02:26.driver who has been at the job for 27 years, said: UPS refuses to say

:02:27. > :02:31.how many packages were affected, but finding outrage was not hard. The

:02:32. > :02:35.sister of one of our own producers paid extra to have live lobster

:02:36. > :02:43.delivered for Christmas Eve dinner in Chicago. The package showed up

:02:44. > :02:47.two days late. It is not too much for you. Exactly. Christmas Eve

:02:48. > :02:52.dinner is gone. Christmas dinner is gone. I do not think we will be

:02:53. > :02:58.relying on UPS. It is that kind of delivery backlash that consumer

:02:59. > :03:02.experts worry could linger. It will have a psychological impact on what

:03:03. > :03:07.shoppers do in future seasons. In terms of will they stay at home and

:03:08. > :03:10.stay online, or are they going to go into a store, where they know they

:03:11. > :03:14.will walk out with what they are interested in. Companies are

:03:15. > :03:19.scrambling to make good on their guaranteed delivery promises. Amazon

:03:20. > :03:25.is refunding shipping fees and throbbing in $20 gift cards. Walmart

:03:26. > :03:30.is also dishing out. Just like they have been doing out all day, even at

:03:31. > :03:35.this hour, there are still customers coming out trying to find their

:03:36. > :03:40.packages. To the other major hurdle this

:03:41. > :03:44.Christmas, the weather. Thousands of families eating Christmas dinner in

:03:45. > :03:50.the dark. Tonight will be no better. The power is still out. A

:03:51. > :03:55.man using his flashlight to find his mailbox. The house completely in the

:03:56. > :04:00.dark. There were power outages image Michigan and Maine. More than... The

:04:01. > :04:07.next one is hitting just before New Year's Eve. A power lot on eight to

:04:08. > :04:13.address Pennsylvania Turnpike. -- a pileup on a treacherous.

:04:14. > :04:20.It was a white day after Christmas. A smelly nightmare in Pennsylvania.

:04:21. > :04:25.Four accident shutting out part of the Turnpike. 35 cars piling up,

:04:26. > :04:30.injuring nine people. The fresh coat of snow is also dusting the ice.

:04:31. > :04:35.This is the worst time of year to have something like this happen. It

:04:36. > :04:40.was a frozen, dark Christmas, from Michigan, to Toronto, to Maine. More

:04:41. > :04:49.than 120,000 homes are still without power. This is on day five without

:04:50. > :04:54.power. What a tough Christmas? We have a generator. In the beginning

:04:55. > :04:59.it was a little rough. The crews are working overtime to say folks from

:05:00. > :05:04.the extreme cold. My kids are at home and warm, playing PlayStation.

:05:05. > :05:07.These kids are just trying to stay warm. The lack of power, including

:05:08. > :05:13.using generators inside, which you should not do, has led to deaths

:05:14. > :05:17.from carbon monoxide poisoning, often called the silent killer,

:05:18. > :05:21.because you cannot see it or smell it. It kills more than 400 people

:05:22. > :05:29.each year. Symptoms of exposure include heavy deviant -- dizziness,

:05:30. > :05:33.weakness and confusion. In Southern California, the wind and record high

:05:34. > :05:38.temperatures... This bushfire is now 80% contained.

:05:39. > :05:42.Such an important reminder about carbon monoxide.

:05:43. > :05:46.Any word on when thousands will get power? She has been told that

:05:47. > :05:50.Saturday will be the day that she gets her power back. That will make

:05:51. > :05:56.eight full week. Another system is brewing just in

:05:57. > :06:00.time for New Year 's plans. There will be a slight warmup. That

:06:01. > :06:05.is the only good news. The warmer air comes up in front of a storm. I

:06:06. > :06:11.want to show you where it is going to move. From the south-east it will

:06:12. > :06:15.all be rain. Lantau may be impacted, parts of the mid Atlantic. As it

:06:16. > :06:20.goes into new England and parts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut,

:06:21. > :06:27.there will be able in an snow mix. Not so good for Sunday travel.

:06:28. > :06:32.There is late word of an avalanche tonight in Wyoming, near Jackson

:06:33. > :06:38.Hole. A snowboarder losing his life. They hitting early this

:06:39. > :06:44.season. A dramatic camera video, a man saving his brother's life. He

:06:45. > :06:47.was buried for a time in deep powder.

:06:48. > :06:52.We toned overseas and to a new video servicing of an American kidnapped.

:06:53. > :06:55.Warren Weinstein went missing in Pakistan two years ago. Tonight the

:06:56. > :07:03.images of him looking straight in the camera with a message for the

:07:04. > :07:07.President. I am addressing this video to

:07:08. > :07:10.President Obama. It is the first proof in more than a year that

:07:11. > :07:15.Warren Weinstein may still be alive.

:07:16. > :07:18.It seems that I have been completely abandoned and forgotten. He was

:07:19. > :07:25.working as a contract for the US government in Pakistan. When gunmen

:07:26. > :07:28.stormed into his house to years ago. Since then, US officials believe

:07:29. > :07:39.that he has been held captive by Al-Qaeda's new leader.

:07:40. > :07:48.We are talking about areas thousands of miles long. Before today, this

:07:49. > :07:54.was the only known video of him. My life is in your hands, Mr President.

:07:55. > :08:01.Released last year, looking healthier. Saying has captors would

:08:02. > :08:04.release them if they've released all prisoners at one time a day. To date

:08:05. > :08:11.it is a different picture. Suffering from a heart condition, his health

:08:12. > :08:15.is deteriorating. He ends the video with an emotional message to his

:08:16. > :08:19.family. Think of each and every one of them every moment of every day of

:08:20. > :08:25.my captivity. The State Department says they are waiting to verify the

:08:26. > :08:30.video. But there is no indication any big oceans are under way. All

:08:31. > :08:36.they can say is that there prayers and hopes go out to him and many

:08:37. > :08:42.other people with. There is a fast moving investigation, the manhunt

:08:43. > :08:53.stretching three states. The PI talk -- looking for the man called the

:08:54. > :08:56.Christmas cop killer. Tonight the FBI has joined the manhunt for the

:08:57. > :09:02.man pictured in this chilling surveillance photo. Showing them

:09:03. > :09:08.entering the bank and Mrs pink wearing a mask with gun drawn. After

:09:09. > :09:15.robbing the bank, the suspect and an accomplice guns down a policeman and

:09:16. > :09:21.wounded another one. This is a date no family, no law enforcement agency

:09:22. > :09:27.and no city wants to Everton jerk. A 38 to rolled army veteran of the

:09:28. > :09:32.Barack Wall was killed. And to blow, the grim side of flags at half

:09:33. > :09:38.stand. A candlelight vigil on Christmas Eve. In that peace would

:09:39. > :09:43.go because I know he died doing what he loved. Police have also released

:09:44. > :09:48.this photo of a person of interest captured by eight security camera at

:09:49. > :09:52.a convenience store just before the bank robbery and shooting. They say

:09:53. > :09:56.they are making progress with the investigation, but so far no

:09:57. > :10:01.arrests. The killing of the police officer was made a terrible by the

:10:02. > :10:04.fact he leaves two young children without a father at Christmas time.

:10:05. > :10:10.The manhunt for the suspects has spread over three southern States.

:10:11. > :10:18.The reward for their capture has been raised to $300,000. The

:10:19. > :10:27.dramatic Christmas rescue. A bomb squad officer was on his way to work

:10:28. > :10:34.when he spotted a car in flames. Christmas Day in one of the busiest

:10:35. > :10:38.freeways in California. A car on fire in heavy traffic. It crashed

:10:39. > :10:44.into the centre divide of the highway, bursting into flames. Look

:10:45. > :10:47.closely as this officer, a veteran with the US police department was

:10:48. > :10:54.going to work. He breaks the flame to help the driver. It is the voice

:10:55. > :10:59.of the man on the other side of the highway watching the scene unfolds

:11:00. > :11:06.and recording at all. It went up here and he skated a long head.

:11:07. > :11:10.Other bystanders rushed to help. The officer says his reaction was all in

:11:11. > :11:16.sting. He knew he only had seconds to save the life of the man. He

:11:17. > :11:21.found the seat release button. I said, it is now all never. You have

:11:22. > :11:29.to get him out or he will burn alive. I grab them with two hands

:11:30. > :11:35.and I started pulling him out. They have saved his life. They pulled out

:11:36. > :11:39.just in time. The driver has been arrested for suspicion of driving

:11:40. > :11:43.under the influence. Lucky to be alive. An incredible officer.

:11:44. > :11:49.Another rescue under way this evening. This one moving more slowly

:11:50. > :11:57.because of where they need. The edge of Antarctica with 70 people are

:11:58. > :12:01.stranded, trapped in heavy ice. The ship is packed with 74 tourists and

:12:02. > :12:04.research is in an Antarctic adventure. They set sail from New

:12:05. > :12:11.Zealand December eight, here they are a week later, grilled to finally

:12:12. > :12:16.find sea ice. The expedition has finally made it to the ice. Look at

:12:17. > :12:21.the view. As the days wore on, the sea ice became more chilling than

:12:22. > :12:27.thrilling. Slowing the ship to a freezing halt. We have a blizzard at

:12:28. > :12:31.the moment. Now they are trapped. We have wind speeds of 50 kilometres an

:12:32. > :12:36.hour, reaching 70 kilometres an hour. The boat has not moved for the

:12:37. > :12:42.last few days. We are surrounded by sea ice. We cannot get through. They

:12:43. > :12:45.were retracing the steps of explorers from a hundred years ago

:12:46. > :12:51.and studying the local wildlife. Temperatures are near zero with

:12:52. > :12:55.heavy wind. Weather could make the risky dangerous, but the explorers

:12:56. > :13:00.are in good spirits. Passing the time by doing even more research.

:13:01. > :13:04.Icebreaking ships are rushing to rescue the passengers. This is one

:13:05. > :13:09.of them sent by the Chinese, the Snow Dragon. It will be hours before

:13:10. > :13:15.this ship arrives to help. Much more ahead, the money team with a

:13:16. > :13:20.Christmas surprise. How do you get rid of those gift cards for a store

:13:21. > :13:55.you don't like, you could use those gift cards somewhere else?

:13:56. > :14:01.The real money team this Christmas week with help for anyone who got a

:14:02. > :14:04.gift card yesterday from a store you don't like. There is a place online

:14:05. > :14:12.which will give you more options than you might think. The Christmas

:14:13. > :14:16.shopping season is in overtime. Retailers desperate to make up for

:14:17. > :14:21.weak sales before the holiday. Offering even deeper discounts. With

:14:22. > :14:26.those deep sales, come all those returns. But you might want to act

:14:27. > :14:31.fast. Tonight, a warning from the better business bureau. Many stalls

:14:32. > :14:35.are tight and return policies. The hardest thing is to take back,

:14:36. > :14:42.electronics and appliances. At best by have until January for team. Now

:14:43. > :14:45.is the time to use the gift cards. The goal is to get the goal is to

:14:46. > :14:51.get a shopper there and get the T-card redeemed. Some companies like

:14:52. > :14:57.the gap, allow you to use the card at other stores they own. What about

:14:58. > :15:02.that gift card gave you to a place you would never dream of shopping.

:15:03. > :15:09.Your best bet, online swap sites. Whatever you do, do not stick at in

:15:10. > :15:18.a draw and forget about it. $1.7 billion in gift cards went unused

:15:19. > :15:21.last year. That does not make sense. Our instant index on this night

:15:22. > :15:26.after Christmas, McDonald's dealing with a puzzling note on their

:15:27. > :15:30.website. It turns out there was a health warning on the site about the

:15:31. > :15:36.armed the dangers of all things, fast food. A burger and french

:15:37. > :15:41.fries, and next to it, the caption, are now the choice. McDonald's

:15:42. > :15:45.saying the site is being re-evaluated. EB is that appeared to

:16:03. > :16:06.take you backstage to the Broadway hit turns out the stars are now

:16:07. > :16:14.sharing the spotlight and their moves with schoolchildren

:16:25. > :16:29.hours eight times a week. It is the life of a musician. The true story

:16:30. > :16:37.of paperboys banding together for change. One in three children in

:16:38. > :16:41.America are overweight and obese. These boys have a genius way to help

:16:42. > :16:50.fix that will stop they are teaching their signature choreography to

:16:51. > :16:59.elementary schools across the country when they come to town on

:17:00. > :17:03.to. Inspiring a room full of children in the making to start

:17:04. > :17:07.making moves. They taught us, when you are small, you can do that

:17:08. > :17:13.things. If you believe in something you can do it. Was it fun for you to

:17:14. > :17:17.go to school and be like rock stars? Definitely very fortunate to have a

:17:18. > :17:22.job where it is what we love to do. It is such a great thing happening.

:17:23. > :17:32.They had one more lesson to teach. They showed me the steps and make it

:17:33. > :17:37.look so easy. She pulled it off. Thank you for watching. From Diane

:17:38. > :17:54.Sawyer and all of us. We will see you back here tomorrow night.

:17:55. > :17:58.Thankfully, for most of us, Christmas Day and Boxing Day were

:17:59. > :18:01.quiet days of weather but it's all set to change. Through the day, the

:18:02. > :18:04.next Atlantic storm heads our way. Another spell of pretty stormy

:18:05. > :18:05.weather across large areas of the
