:00:00. > :00:00.trillion of national debt. The rest of the day's news in around

:00:00. > :00:08.20 minutes, but now it is time for ABC World News.

:00:09. > :00:16.Welcome to ABC World News. Tonight, Russia's President Putin draws his

:00:17. > :00:25.mind to date and so this President Obama. -- line today. Are we closer

:00:26. > :00:28.to conflict tonight? Record cold freezing the roads

:00:29. > :00:37.again. A convoy of trucks stranded on the ice. Temperatures plunged to

:00:38. > :00:40.their lowest in a century. News about anger that takes a toll

:00:41. > :00:44.on your heart long after you think it is over.

:00:45. > :00:50.The family recipe that turn their mother into a millionaire.

:00:51. > :00:58.How you can make big money with what you are cooking for Denver. --

:00:59. > :01:05.dinner. Good evening. We begin with that

:01:06. > :01:08.face-off between two of the world's superpowers. Russia and the United

:01:09. > :01:11.States and the United States on a chess game filled with tension

:01:12. > :01:19.tonight. The eyes of the world are still right here. In the middle,

:01:20. > :01:35.Ukraine, Crimea and an international tug-of-war. We can speak to our

:01:36. > :01:42.chief foreign correspondent. At this airbase Ukrainian troops,

:01:43. > :01:50.I'm armed, marched towards the Russian guns. As they marched they

:01:51. > :02:00.sang the national anthem. -- a -- a non-. The Russians yelled and then

:02:01. > :02:06.fired. Warning shots. But the first shots fired and then negotiations.

:02:07. > :02:12.The Ukrainians withdrew. It was a day of high tension. Russia

:02:13. > :02:23.launching an ICBM, scheduled, but still a statement. In Kiev, the

:02:24. > :02:26.Ukrainian capital, John Kerry walked the streets where scores of

:02:27. > :02:35.Ukrainians died in protests. Then he pressed the revolution. What they

:02:36. > :02:41.stood for, I say with full conviction, will never be stolen by

:02:42. > :02:46.bullets, by invasions and is called freedom. Vladimir Putin offered a

:02:47. > :02:57.different version, a different reality. And Ukrainian government is

:02:58. > :03:02.illegitimate, he said. He said the US must stop encouraging what he

:03:03. > :03:10.called a legal change in the territory of the former Soviet

:03:11. > :03:14.Union. -- illegal. He was a loyal KGB officer for 15 years. This is

:03:15. > :03:20.what the country looked like back then. A colossus. Here is how a

:03:21. > :03:27.trunk when the Soviet Union collapsed. He called it the greatest

:03:28. > :03:31.catastrophe of the century. He was born in a large Soviet space that

:03:32. > :03:36.encompassed a huge part of the earth. They still call themselves

:03:37. > :03:41.Soviet. They're mostly meant Russian. President Obama said that

:03:42. > :03:50.President Putin is not fooling anybody. But President Putin wants

:03:51. > :03:56.to shape history. He is doing just that in the Ukraine.

:03:57. > :04:05.John Kerry was on the ground in Ukraine today. We can speak to a

:04:06. > :04:09.reporter travelling with him. Is the United States closer to conflict

:04:10. > :04:15.with Russia tonight or not? Vladimir Putin may already have gotten what

:04:16. > :04:20.he wants, Crimea. It is possible he will not push any further. This is

:04:21. > :04:27.the way he negotiates. He is a bully. This is how he operates. But

:04:28. > :04:32.there are going to be meetings. There are negotiations. John Kerry

:04:33. > :04:39.will be meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister in Paris. He wants

:04:40. > :04:48.to get this settled as soon as possible. Can the United States let

:04:49. > :04:54.Russia keep Crimea this way? The simple answer to that, is Europe

:04:55. > :05:01.going to go to war over Crimea? Thank you.

:05:02. > :05:07.We have a note about the uncertainty in Ukraine causing an effect on the

:05:08. > :05:12.markets at home. Stocks were in a freefall. Tonight, a giant rally.

:05:13. > :05:23.The single best day on Wall Street will be. -- all year.

:05:24. > :05:28.We move to the cold covering the eastern half of this country. Arctic

:05:29. > :05:39.air is pushing its way into the South. Much is setting new records.

:05:40. > :05:45.-- March. Some people are making a fortune on the freeze.

:05:46. > :05:54.Mother Nature's March madness. Pass that upside down. -- car is flipped.

:05:55. > :06:01.A truck accident backed up traffic for miles. Passengers stranded

:06:02. > :06:08.overnight. And ice storm in Houston. Trees brought down and

:06:09. > :06:13.power knocked out. It has been a winter for the books. In Chicago it

:06:14. > :06:22.is official. The most days at or below zero ever. Car sales are

:06:23. > :06:30.down. Dealerships empty. Nobody comes out. They are afraid. Air

:06:31. > :06:40.alliance taking a hit. About 1 million flights cancelled this

:06:41. > :06:47.season. -- air lines. Roofing contractors and car repair shops can

:06:48. > :06:52.barely keep up with the business. Our business is through the roof. If

:06:53. > :07:01.I could get more hours out of my guys, I would. Which products are up

:07:02. > :07:14.135%. Bookings for warm destinations up 38%. Even in New Orleans, Mardi

:07:15. > :07:18.Gras is mighty cold. And here in the midwest it has been

:07:19. > :07:23.so coldly to Michigan and the other great Lakes are more than 90%

:07:24. > :07:28.frozen. Looks like a Glaisher.

:07:29. > :07:36.Now news tonight about anger at what anger really does to your heart.

:07:37. > :07:45.There is a study tonight and it is a wake-up call.

:07:46. > :07:53.Anger can have a powerful effect on our behaviour. And as it turns out,

:07:54. > :08:00.our bodies. That new study finding that losing a temp could lead to a

:08:01. > :08:04.heart attack. Researchers looked at studies around the world. Having an

:08:05. > :08:12.angry outburst makes you almost five times more likely to have a heart

:08:13. > :08:17.attack. It is not just in the moment you blow your top, the risk lingers

:08:18. > :08:21.two hours after you become angry and even if you hold the anger inside.

:08:22. > :08:24.Does this confirm what a lot of people thought intuitively that your

:08:25. > :08:31.emotions can have an effect on your physical state? Absolutely. Your

:08:32. > :08:37.intuition is correct. The mind and the body I connect it. The various

:08:38. > :08:43.organ systems and certainly for cardiac. When your -- when you

:08:44. > :08:48.scream with anger adrenaline is released into the bloodstream, blood

:08:49. > :08:54.vessels constrict and it is harder for the heart to pump. Doctors say

:08:55. > :09:00.the more angry outbursts you have, the more you put yourself at risk

:09:01. > :09:04.and the effects are even worse for people with already existing house

:09:05. > :09:08.problems like diabetes. Take deep breaths after the heat of the

:09:09. > :09:16.moment, walk away from the situation and talk -- count to ten. A call

:09:17. > :09:21.ahead and a healthier heart. Next, a new hat from the airlines, first it

:09:22. > :09:28.was frequent flyer miles, then brief and fears, now a crackdown on the

:09:29. > :09:31.size of carry on bags. The latest salvo between passengers and

:09:32. > :09:38.airlines and passengers trying to carry bags on board. United airlines

:09:39. > :09:41.contract workers at the beginning of the security lines are now looking

:09:42. > :09:47.for folks who may be carrying too much. United has recently added

:09:48. > :09:51.sizing kiosks at airports. They say this is about loading and unloading

:09:52. > :09:56.aircraft more quickly but this is not a new policy, just in fulsome of

:09:57. > :10:01.the rules by reminding customers of limits on the size and numbers of

:10:02. > :10:04.bags. Passengers who make it through security with a big bag will not

:10:05. > :10:08.have to go back to the counter, but they will have two gate check

:10:09. > :10:17.without paying the bag fee. Today the gate -- bag police are on the

:10:18. > :10:20.per of parole, meaning there may be more room in overhead compartments.

:10:21. > :10:27.Dramatic images out of New Jersey today. A neighbourhood in ruins,

:10:28. > :10:31.utilities were fixing a damaged gas line when a huge explosion erupted.

:10:32. > :10:36.Eyewitnesses said it was so loud they thought it was a plane crash.

:10:37. > :10:41.Six people were injured, one person has died. We want to take you inside

:10:42. > :10:46.the South African courtroom, an emotional day of testimony and the

:10:47. > :10:50.Oscar Pistorius. A witness breaking down on the stand, and the Olympic

:10:51. > :10:55.athlete muffled his ears as if to block out the testimony. You can not

:10:56. > :11:01.see this witness, she has been promised to face one not be shown on

:11:02. > :11:02.television. Her second day of tough and relentless questioning. This is

:11:03. > :11:13.the moment she breaks. She says the scream she heard in the

:11:14. > :11:16.early hours of Valentine's Day last year were bloodcurdling. They were

:11:17. > :11:26.followed by four gunshots. The team defending Oscar Pistorius

:11:27. > :11:31.projects that account. They say he too could sound like a woman when he

:11:32. > :11:32.screams. The witness is confused about what she heard first.

:11:33. > :11:51.Screaming or gunshots? This man is a hero to many in South

:11:52. > :11:56.Africa. The disabled boy who grew up to become the Blade Runner. He looks

:11:57. > :12:01.to have everything, even the model girlfriend, until the tragic night

:12:02. > :12:04.last year. With delays, mistakes with translation and an unhappy

:12:05. > :12:09.judge, there is pressure on South Africa to prevent this trial on

:12:10. > :12:19.descending into chaos. These proceedings will run for a least

:12:20. > :12:24.another three weeks. Coming up next, real money, a taste of big success

:12:25. > :12:28.in your life. How your family recipe could earn you a lot of money. The

:12:29. > :14:37.dinner that turned one mother into a millionaire.

:14:38. > :14:41.This woman who runs the site said there are more than 500 contest in 3

:14:42. > :14:46.million and Makro cash and prizes every year. There is a lot to be one

:14:47. > :14:52.out there. You have to claim your peace of the pie. There is more, did

:14:53. > :14:57.you ever wonder how those celebrity ships come up with all those

:14:58. > :15:03.cookbooks? Denise is behind some of them like Suzanne Somers. Gorgeous,

:15:04. > :15:12.the pan is hot. She is a recipe ghostwriter. Did I tell you that?

:15:13. > :15:17.Charging 200 and $400 per recently. From white chocolate souffle to

:15:18. > :15:23.grasshopper pie. No one is more surprised by my success than me. You

:15:24. > :15:27.can strike it rich in the specialty food business. Meet Erica, her

:15:28. > :15:34.secret sauce, a ketchup alternative called what else? Not ketchup. She

:15:35. > :15:40.packages and ships from her home. That is starting to pay off. She is

:15:41. > :15:44.talking with big box retailers to sell the family recipe nationwide.

:15:45. > :15:48.For most of us the cooking contests could be the easiest. Now he is

:15:49. > :15:57.working on a top-secret pizza recipe that could wind her eight -- trip to

:15:58. > :16:07.Italy. The verdict, I like it a lot. The sweet taste of victory. That is

:16:08. > :16:11.real money. Finally, rooting for true underdogs, an elderly dog and

:16:12. > :16:15.owners are on a mission to find homes for older dogs in shelters,

:16:16. > :16:25.saying they make the best bet. See what you think. This is the face

:16:26. > :16:31.that launched a campaign to save some of America's Barmera Bulldogs.

:16:32. > :16:41.She looks like a punk rocker, she acts like a nun. Her name is Susie,

:16:42. > :16:47.for her owners, she is a doll. She -- Brandon is behind the blog,

:16:48. > :16:52.humans of New York, which features pictures of interesting New Yorkers.

:16:53. > :16:59.He met Susie on the job -- job. What about this dog? I had never seen a

:17:00. > :17:04.dog that interesting. She was adopted despite her age. She is

:17:05. > :17:10.lucky, most people prefer puppies. Older dogs have a hard time finding

:17:11. > :17:14.a home. The alternative is be in a shelter or even worse. Despite the

:17:15. > :17:19.fact that senior dogs have a lot going for them. If you just look for

:17:20. > :17:29.a companion a senior pet is the way to go. This woman decided to take up

:17:30. > :17:34.her cause, starting a Facebook page. Trying to find dogs like this one a

:17:35. > :17:41.new family. He posted it on his blog and it went viral, the first dog

:17:42. > :17:49.adopted in two days. She is called Mina. Soon a typo was adopted in

:17:50. > :17:54.Georgia, and Roscoe in Oregon. 20 dogs finding for ever homes thus

:17:55. > :17:59.far. One funny little face and one big viral movement saving lives

:18:00. > :18:08.tonight in that classic America strong tradition, by rooting for the

:18:09. > :18:13.underdog. Thank you for watching. Nightline is later. We will leave

:18:14. > :18:20.you tonight with a party in new Orleans. The coldest Mardi Gras in

:18:21. > :18:24.20 years. Not enough to take the fire out of the farm. Good times

:18:25. > :18:29.rolling down there. See you back here tomorrow. -- fire out of the

:18:30. > :18:45.farm. Temperatures are falling again. A

:18:46. > :18:46.cold start to the day but a day of contrasts across England and Wales.

:18:47. > :18:49.Temperatures are falling again. A cold start to the day It will start

:18:50. > :18:52.cold with a touch of frost but most of the places will have a fine day.

:18:53. > :18:53.Through the morning, plenty of
