:00:00. > :00:00.public over. Mike Embley will be here at 2am, but time for a look at
:00:00. > :00:10.the news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago, in ABC
:00:11. > :00:16.World News with Dianne Sawyer. Tonight, the mystery deepens, the
:00:17. > :00:21.plane that is of course before it was lost. And, video of the pilot
:00:22. > :00:27.about to captain a vanishing flight. Roads washed away by floods as
:00:28. > :00:32.weather gets ready to deliver a parting shot to 89 million people.
:00:33. > :00:37.And, unlocking a secret, panic attacks on live TV that set Dan
:00:38. > :00:41.Harris on a search for a happier way to live. He tells you the answer he
:00:42. > :00:55.found that could help your life also. Good evening to you. We begin
:00:56. > :01:01.with the mystery of the aeroplane that vanished 239 souls on board. It
:01:02. > :01:06.is four days into the search and one new theory has emerged, take a look.
:01:07. > :01:12.Investigators thought the plane travel this route, then disappeared.
:01:13. > :01:16.But, tonight, clues suggest the plane could have veered off course
:01:17. > :01:20.radically, meaning a vast new stretch of ocean to be searched. Our
:01:21. > :01:26.correspondent is in Beijing with the latest on the disappearance of
:01:27. > :01:35.flight 370. The military is quoted as saying the
:01:36. > :01:39.jet headed off course. The flight, carrying 239 passengers, banked hard
:01:40. > :01:44.to the left, and the military said it soared over hundred of miles of
:01:45. > :01:49.land, never sounding an alarm, cruising low into the Strait of my
:01:50. > :01:56.luck, a busy shipping lane near a tiny rocky island. The boat, no one
:01:57. > :01:59.on land never spotted it. An unimaginable manoeuvre, sparking
:02:00. > :02:02.more questions tonight. From the sky, it is like looking for a needle
:02:03. > :02:11.in a haystack for the 40 aircraft and ships. Up at this, the BBC, with
:02:12. > :02:14.a view aboard the searched shopper. Officials are using their naked eyes
:02:15. > :02:21.to try and spot anything in the water that seems out of the
:02:22. > :02:26.ordinary. -- search chopper. They thought they spotted something but
:02:27. > :02:31.it was a false lead. They are even crowd sourcing, asking the public to
:02:32. > :02:35.help, by scouring images for clues, taken by satellites high above the
:02:36. > :02:38.region. There was some progress today, we learned that two men who
:02:39. > :02:44.were on the flight using fake passports are both young Iranians, a
:02:45. > :02:49.19-year-old and a 29-year-old travelling to Germany. One, possibly
:02:50. > :02:52.seeking asylum. Officials in contact with one of the men's mother, said
:02:53. > :02:57.they do not think the men have connection to terror. Still,
:02:58. > :03:02.criticism of the investigation and the search is mounting. Complaints
:03:03. > :03:07.the Malaysians are not co-ordinating the investigation. It is haphazard.
:03:08. > :03:14.There does not seem to be any reason or centralised control. The idea
:03:15. > :03:17.that the plane may have veered off course, without communication, is
:03:18. > :03:23.hard to explain. But experts say that this means the pilot may have
:03:24. > :03:30.been rogue, perhaps a hijacking. But there is no evidence of that and so
:03:31. > :03:34.the mystery continues. As you say, the focus shifts to the men who were
:03:35. > :03:39.flying the plane. Any clues that their lives may have left behind.
:03:40. > :03:50.Our correspondent has spent the day tracking down new details. The
:03:51. > :03:54.captain was a pilot's pilot. Seen on his YouTube channel at the controls
:03:55. > :04:07.of a flight simulator. This is a you Tube video that I have made as a
:04:08. > :04:11.community service -- you Tube. A veteran of the airline. But his
:04:12. > :04:16.co-pilot was much less experienced. Today, it was said they would be
:04:17. > :04:21.investigating reports he was an airborne playboy, violating safety
:04:22. > :04:24.standards. According to an Australian news report, these two
:04:25. > :04:30.women were invited by the pilot to ride with him in the cockpit on the
:04:31. > :04:34.fight to Kuala Lumpur. They turned in their seats, talking to us, and
:04:35. > :04:38.they were engaged in conversation. There is nothing known about the
:04:39. > :04:43.pilots that suggest foul play. But their backgrounds are coming into
:04:44. > :04:47.focus. That comes with a report the plane veered off course for an hour
:04:48. > :04:54.after turning off its transponder tracking signal, raising questions
:04:55. > :04:59.of a hijacking or pilot suicide. We cannot discount any theory. Who had
:05:00. > :05:05.the ability to turn the transmitter? Just last month, the co-pilot of an
:05:06. > :05:15.Indeo PN airliner, landed in Switzerland, seeking asylum. This
:05:16. > :05:20.has been tied to the mysterious crash of an Air France flight into
:05:21. > :05:24.the Atlantic, when they found the pilot flew into dangerous weather
:05:25. > :05:28.and did not take other action after developing a mechanical problems.
:05:29. > :05:32.Authorities tell ABC News the homes of the two pilots have been
:05:33. > :05:41.searched, looking for clues that might answer the mystery of why are
:05:42. > :05:47.and how, the plane disappeared. Next, a bold move in the battle over
:05:48. > :05:52.Obamacare. Even if you are President of the US, if you want the attention
:05:53. > :05:57.of young Americans, you put your dignity on the line and go where
:05:58. > :06:03.they laugh. Tonight, and impudent website has recruited hundreds of
:06:04. > :06:12.people to check out Obamacare, all because the president sat down with
:06:13. > :06:17.the funny guy from the Hangover. My guest today is President Barack
:06:18. > :06:30.Obama. The strangest presidential interview ever? First question. In
:06:31. > :06:44.2013, what do you have planned for 2014? We will probably pardon
:06:45. > :06:49.another turkey. Barack Obama appeared on the internet show for
:06:50. > :06:53.one reason, to push young people to unroll in Obamacare, with just three
:06:54. > :06:59.weeks to the final deadline. What did you come here to plug? It is
:07:00. > :07:02.fair to say I would not be with you today if I didn't have something to
:07:03. > :07:06.plug. Have you heard of the Affordable Care Act? I'll yet, I
:07:07. > :07:12.heard about that. That is the thing that doesn't work. It works great
:07:13. > :07:20.now, and millions of Americans have got health insurance plans. Will
:07:21. > :07:27.this get young people to signup? By midday more than 6 million people
:07:28. > :07:34.have watched the video, and 19,000 had gone directly to signup.
:07:35. > :07:38.Staying in Washington, the gloves were off amid allegations of spy
:07:39. > :07:46.games. Senators accusing the CIA of spying on their work. Tonight, the
:07:47. > :07:53.justice department is investigating. Today, the spy agency is accused of
:07:54. > :07:58.spying on the US Senate, infiltrating computers used by the
:07:59. > :08:01.intelligence committee. I have great concerns that the CIA search may
:08:02. > :08:07.have violated the separation of powers principles. It stems from a
:08:08. > :08:13.Senate investigation into the CIA's secret interrogation techniques used
:08:14. > :08:18.after 911. Senate staffers were invited into an undisclosed CIA
:08:19. > :08:24.office to review documents. It was there that the CIA secretly searched
:08:25. > :08:29.computers, removing documents. Nearly 1000 pages went missing. The
:08:30. > :08:34.CIA director strenuously denies the charges. Nothing would be further
:08:35. > :08:42.from the truth. The White House says it is taking the allegations
:08:43. > :08:48.seriously. A CIA officer says he has never seen such a stand. I recall
:08:49. > :08:57.nothing like this. One senator is seen tonight, this is Nixon staff.
:08:58. > :09:01.Federal investigators say they are on the trail of what could be a
:09:02. > :09:08.staggering crime. 37,000 pills missing from a string of stores in
:09:09. > :09:12.California. All of them for a prescription painkiller, which is
:09:13. > :09:21.found in like an end. It is one of the most widely used prescription
:09:22. > :09:23.drugs. -- Vicodin. Authorities say the pills may have already been sold
:09:24. > :09:29.on the black market. Tonight, March is living up to its
:09:30. > :09:35.billing. Despite the taste of spring weather, 89 million people across 14
:09:36. > :09:40.states are back under winter watches. This raises new fear about
:09:41. > :09:48.floods as how meteorologist shows us.
:09:49. > :09:55.A flood emergency in the west. Ice germs terrorising towns from Montana
:09:56. > :10:03.to Wyoming. Dozens stranded as floods wash out roads. In Wyoming, a
:10:04. > :10:15.drone, capturing the immense scope of that ice jam. Much of the issue,
:10:16. > :10:21.the rapid swing into spring. Look at how much snow cover we had just a
:10:22. > :10:25.week ago, almost 54%. Earlier today, that was cut by more than half.
:10:26. > :10:30.While the surge of warmth is exciting, what goes up is already
:10:31. > :10:38.coming down. West of Denver, this snow is heading east. We had 65
:10:39. > :10:42.degrees here in Central Park, spring fever has gone wild behind me. But,
:10:43. > :10:48.there are ugly reminders of the harsh winter still around, but won't
:10:49. > :10:53.melt. We are about to get cold. Snow on the way for some folks. From
:10:54. > :11:02.Chicago to Detroit, and Cleveland you will get it tonight. Five to
:11:03. > :11:05.eight inches likely. In Interior New England, Wednesday night through
:11:06. > :11:14.Thursday it will really start to push into Vermont, and places like
:11:15. > :11:23.that. Saint Lewis at 81 degrees today, and by tomorrow their high
:11:24. > :11:32.temperature only in the 30s. -- St Louis Full --.
:11:33. > :11:41.Next, finding more happiness in your life. The search that started with a
:11:42. > :11:42.panic attack on live TV. Dan Harris sharing the secret he found for a
:11:43. > :12:25.happier life. Next, the search of the secret of
:12:26. > :12:30.changing your life. Last night, Dan Harris told you about a panic attack
:12:31. > :12:33.on live TV. That was the wake-up call that started him asking the
:12:34. > :12:37.questions about the way we can all get more control of what really
:12:38. > :12:41.makes us happy. Tonight, he brings the simple answer he found, and
:12:42. > :12:50.which takes only five minutes per day. We are going to go to Dan
:12:51. > :12:56.Harris at the newsdesk. This is me, ten years ago, having a panic attack
:12:57. > :13:03.on good morning America. My heart is racing, my palms sweating, literally
:13:04. > :13:07.cannot breathe. This meltdown was all, I later learned, brought on by
:13:08. > :13:14.a personal struggle so many of us face. A combination of doubt, drive,
:13:15. > :13:20.depression and drug abuse. So, I went in search of something to tame
:13:21. > :13:34.my mind. I interviewed a gaggle of gurus. Joe Vitale, who charges for a
:13:35. > :13:46.ride in his Rolls Royce. To more mainstream figures, like Deepak
:13:47. > :13:53.Chopra. It turns out, all along, there was a simple way to turn down
:13:54. > :13:57.a voice in our heads. Something this fidgety, sceptical reporter always
:13:58. > :14:04.thought to be uniquely ridiculous. Meditation. Then I found out that
:14:05. > :14:08.millions of Americans are doing it. Lots of successful people are
:14:09. > :14:17.included, from the co-founder of Twitter, two athletes like Novak
:14:18. > :14:24.Djokovic, to US Marines. The ability to steal the deafening quiet of
:14:25. > :14:29.meditation, you can realise that those dangerous voices you hear
:14:30. > :14:34.saying that you are not good enough, can be turned down. There are
:14:35. > :14:42.basically three steps. Number one, sit upright. It can be on a chair,
:14:43. > :14:53.on the floor, whatever. Number Ten, feel your breath coming in and out.
:14:54. > :14:59.Number three, return your attention to your breath when your mind starts
:15:00. > :15:02.to wander. Scientific studies show that meditation can, among other
:15:03. > :15:09.things, lower your blood pressure and boost your immune system. Brain
:15:10. > :15:14.scans show that short daily doses of meditation, literally grow the grey
:15:15. > :15:17.matter in areas associated with self-awareness and compassion, and
:15:18. > :15:24.shrink the area associated with stress. Meditation doesn't just help
:15:25. > :15:29.the blood pressure. It helps with things like psoriasis, and
:15:30. > :15:34.autoimmune disease. It changes how your body response to the world
:15:35. > :15:39.outside. What has done for me, the guy who once had a panic attack in
:15:40. > :15:42.front 5 million people? Meditation has helped me slow down enough that
:15:43. > :15:47.the good stuff in my life has become more vivid, from the fact that BBC
:15:48. > :15:52.News allows me to be a co-anchor, to eating cookies with my wife, to
:15:53. > :15:59.playing with our cats, even if they don't like it as much as I do.
:16:00. > :16:06.Five minutes! Yes, I say five minutes. Nobody is so busy that they
:16:07. > :16:10.can't do five minutes. I was able to focus on what is happening right
:16:11. > :16:22.now, rather than being lost in times of the past. Why only being 10%
:16:23. > :16:24.happier? Athletes and economists will tell you that 10% is a pretty
:16:25. > :16:38.good return. From couch potato cats to pooches
:16:39. > :16:47.with porches, you tube is full of fat pets. They say a moment on the
:16:48. > :16:50.lips, a lifetime on the hips. Little wonder America's obesity problem
:16:51. > :16:58.extends to our 4-legged friends. Now, a high-tech solution. This is
:16:59. > :17:03.the first of several fitness track for animals to come on the market.
:17:04. > :17:08.It clicks onto the dog's Kholo, and keeps a log of their activity,
:17:09. > :17:12.sending it to your phone. It is especially useful for animals left
:17:13. > :17:17.alone through most of the day. I can access and check up on how much
:17:18. > :17:21.exercise she is getting. How much exercise your dog needs depends on
:17:22. > :17:28.its age and breed. The device not only keeps track, it also lets you
:17:29. > :17:33.see how your pet stacks up. You can compare it to other dogs in the same
:17:34. > :17:39.age and weight group. It won't teach an old dog new tricks. Maintaining
:17:40. > :17:45.that girlish figure is hard work. This high-tech device is just one
:17:46. > :17:59.more piece of motivation. Thank you for watching.
:18:00. > :18:06.A promise of dry weather across the country throughout the week is
:18:07. > :18:09.holding true. The area of high pressure that has been influencing
:18:10. > :18:10.our weather recently is drifting away
