:01:07. > :01:09.considering the possibility, based on new clues, that what went on
:01:10. > :01:16.inside the cockpit of this play may not have been an accident. All of
:01:17. > :01:26.this as the US ship races to a new location.
:01:27. > :01:28.Two sources have told ABC news that two communication systems on the
:01:29. > :01:34.triple seven were shut down separately, suggesting there was not
:01:35. > :01:38.a catastrophic failure. They shut down less than an hour into flight.
:01:39. > :01:46.Our source called it systematic. This, as the surge is expanding.
:01:47. > :01:52.American ships are on the move tonight, looking for the jetliner
:01:53. > :01:54.even further away from its original flight path. Our top source says
:01:55. > :01:57.there is an indication it went down in the Indian Ocean, so the search
:01:58. > :02:03.grid is getting bigger and could get much bigger. Two senior US officials
:02:04. > :02:11.told us that the plane may have flown up to four hours after its
:02:12. > :02:15.last sighting on radar. It was apparently pinging a satellite every
:02:16. > :02:18.power. It is part of a monitoring system airlines can pay for the keep
:02:19. > :02:23.track of jets in the air. Malaysia Airlines was not paying, but our
:02:24. > :02:27.sources say that even if the airline is not buying the data, the signal
:02:28. > :02:32.still scope to the satellite. Based on some new information, and
:02:33. > :02:44.additional search area may be opened in the Indian Ocean. Flying four
:02:45. > :02:50.hours at at that speed mean it could have gone hundreds of miles. I don't
:02:51. > :02:55.think the aircraft is underwater and you will get a valid signal coming

:03:06. > :03:09.the Malaysians looked today and found nothing. They say they were
:03:10. > :03:13.told by the Chinese that the images were released by mistake. With our

:03:18. > :03:22.deliberately, that would suggest either a hijacking or pilot suicide.
:03:23. > :03:28.Now, the search area is shifting to the Indian Ocean. 2400 square miles,
:03:29. > :03:33.they will do a grid over it. It will take months to search.
:03:34. > :03:36.If it is possible that there was control still inside the cockpit,
:03:37. > :03:39.and the plane was airborne for hours, could it have reached land?
:03:40. > :03:51.If so, where? Could the plane have soared straight
:03:52. > :03:57.past where they are searching in the ocean, crashing on dry land or even
:03:58. > :04:04.landing safely? The closest island is here. It is a tiny, rocky spot,
:04:05. > :04:12.jutting out of the ocean. No likelihood of a landing. Further
:04:13. > :04:16.out, we reach a group of 600 tiny islands and rocks, some popular with
:04:17. > :04:20.tourists. At only 37 of the islands are actually inhabited. The others
:04:21. > :04:25.are full of dense forest, but isolated. The odd that, the vast
:04:26. > :04:30.Indian Ocean. If the plane was flying for four or five hours, widen
:04:31. > :04:36.at the lens, and you can see that it could have reached as far as the
:04:37. > :04:42.jungles of Thailand, Burma, or India. There was enough fuel on

:06:02. > :06:07.that it flew for four to five hours. Dig about how far it could have gone
:06:08. > :06:12.in and length of time. We know this from some US capability. Do we know
:06:13. > :06:18.pretty much exactly where the plane is? Unfortunately not. The data that
:06:19. > :06:21.is coming out just says that the aeroplane was airborne. It doesn't
:06:22. > :06:24.tell us how fast it was going or in what direction. All we know is that
:06:25. > :06:31.it was flying. That means it could be anywhere within about 3500 miles.
:06:32. > :06:36.Is it possible that the plane could have landed somewhere and we have no
:06:37. > :06:55.idea? It is possible, but that would be a stretch. Following a new twist
