:00:00. > :00:00.would say fat chance but maybe it will do better next time. Budget
:00:07. > :00:11.they all day on BBC News. It is now time to catch up with ABC World
:00:12. > :00:21.News. Welcome to World News. Big new questions about the passenger plane.
:00:22. > :00:27.We meet the witnesses who claim the flight flew directly over their
:00:28. > :00:30.head. What did they see and hear? Crash near the Space Needle. Our
:00:31. > :00:36.colleagues in Seattle report the tragedy in the family. This will be
:00:37. > :00:40.a very difficult time. Defiance. A celebration in red Square is prudent
:00:41. > :00:53.fires back with contempt against the US. Good evening. We come in the
:00:54. > :00:56.air, it is now 11 days since the passenger jet vanished into thin
:00:57. > :01:01.air. All day long, new theories have been emerging around the globe. Is
:01:02. > :01:05.it possible something caused the pilots to pass out? Would a testing
:01:06. > :01:08.those communications when they turned them off? Tonight our
:01:09. > :01:16.correspondent rakes down the latest facts. The mystery of flight 370
:01:17. > :01:22.came no closer to being solved when today the Malaysian government
:01:23. > :01:26.changed the story. So few facts have produced so many theories. The
:01:27. > :01:30.long`time pilot who wrote that it could have been a fire in the
:01:31. > :01:34.cockpit which brought that he'd turn off the flight path. US sources
:01:35. > :01:38.remain focused on what appears to be a deliberate act. It is all because
:01:39. > :01:42.of the two bits of information we do have. As we reported this weekend, a
:01:43. > :01:47.source says that somebody programmed the autopilot that dramatic left
:01:48. > :01:56.turn off the flight path. That was before one 7am. Then the final radio
:01:57. > :02:01.call to controllers. All right, good night he said. No sign of trouble.
:02:02. > :02:04.Two minutes later the transponder goes dead. At some point and other
:02:05. > :02:10.communication system stops working as well. Then a hard bank to the
:02:11. > :02:13.left sends the plane away from Malaysia and into the Indian Ocean.
:02:14. > :02:19.A shutdown of systems, although Stearns, tell investigators someone
:02:20. > :02:26.was at the controls who wanted to disappear. But even that is not a
:02:27. > :02:31.complete timeline, 11 days in. 11 frustrating days of conflicting and
:02:32. > :02:37.confusing information. Example? A critical piece of information on
:02:38. > :02:46.when a communication system shut down, ACARS. We cannot determine
:02:47. > :02:50.exactly when ACARS was disabled. It leads to a lot of speculation not
:02:51. > :02:55.just within the public and the media, but also investigators and
:02:56. > :02:59.searches. Thailand says its radar saw the plane in this area around
:03:00. > :03:04.Malaysia. More proof of that term. Tonight we have an area near
:03:05. > :03:09.Australia the size of Texas where the latest intensive search is under
:03:10. > :03:15.way. This includes a hi`tech US Navy plane. A reminder that in these
:03:16. > :03:20.incidents, a couple of small pieces of data could completely change the
:03:21. > :03:24.focus of this investigation. Another surprising new piece of data in this
:03:25. > :03:30.worldwide detective story. I witnesses come forward to say they
:03:31. > :03:35.saw the plane above them in the air. Our correspondent went out to find
:03:36. > :03:38.them on the water today. We travelled to the tiny fishing
:03:39. > :03:43.village to find witnesses who say they saw the plane. These have been
:03:44. > :03:50.the last people to have seen flight MH370? A group of men aboard this
:03:51. > :03:58.boat on the night the plane vanished, fishing fortune. They say
:03:59. > :04:06.they were here, ten miles out to sea. `` fishing for tuna. They saw
:04:07. > :04:10.something bigger than any plane they had ever seen in the sky. He tells
:04:11. > :04:17.us that the body of the plane was not clear, but the lights were very
:04:18. > :04:22.bright. Would it have been MH370? This is where we believe the plane
:04:23. > :04:31.flew after making that infamous left turn. Might it have dipped because
:04:32. > :04:36.of the crisis on board? Back in the fishing village, we learned more
:04:37. > :04:38.about the co`pilot. This is where his grandmother lives. A nice home
:04:39. > :04:45.for this town. It is where he grew up. We also came across these
:04:46. > :04:53.children. Their pictures of the missing plane, their hope and prayer
:04:54. > :04:58.is that it is found soon. With thanks to Bob, we want to bring in
:04:59. > :05:02.our aviation expert. With the shifting information, anything that
:05:03. > :05:08.leads to a greater probability of an accident. We keep thinking maybe the
:05:09. > :05:11.pilot simply lost consciousness. We are at the point where we will have
:05:12. > :05:15.to entertain lots of different theories. If they have any validity
:05:16. > :05:19.or if there is anything which could lead us to the crash, we cannot
:05:20. > :05:23.exclude it. We are at the point where there are other very little
:05:24. > :05:28.signs coming in. There will be some forensics on the ground, we are at
:05:29. > :05:33.the point where we can't rule out anything until we get that wreckage
:05:34. > :05:37.and those black boxes. Everything entertained. What about this
:05:38. > :05:43.location the Australians have now targeted? Specifically, where is it,
:05:44. > :05:47.how easy is it to get there and search? They have pushed the search
:05:48. > :05:54.out to way off the coast of Perth. Almost two thirds of the way to
:05:55. > :05:57.Antarctica. Those are treacherous, deep seas. Winter is coming. The
:05:58. > :06:02.rescue effort continues to get more difficult either day. Does it
:06:03. > :06:06.suggest the Australians have something very specific? I believe
:06:07. > :06:10.the Australians and the US have come to an agreement that the most likely
:06:11. > :06:17.science is pointing to this area well south of Perth. It is such...
:06:18. > :06:19.It is not even a needle in a haystack. It is a needle in
:06:20. > :06:31.thousands of field of haystacks. Very difficult. Thank you for
:06:32. > :06:38.bringing your perspective. Now, a fiery scene near the space Needle in
:06:39. > :06:40.Seattle. A helicopter crash, and we get the latest on how it happened,
:06:41. > :07:06.and the colleagues were lost. The helicopter, flown by an ABC
:07:07. > :07:12.affiliate, had just taken off, when it dropped directly onto the street
:07:13. > :07:22.alone, exploding on top of cars. Kill an impact, the pilot and a
:07:23. > :07:25.photographer. It was taking off, and it kind of wobbled and swung, then
:07:26. > :07:30.it started going down sideways on the street. When firefighters
:07:31. > :07:34.arrived, they found two cars and a pickup truck involved in fire, and a
:07:35. > :07:42.small river of flaming fuel flowing down the street. One man reportedly
:07:43. > :07:48.jumped out of his flaming car, his body in flames. I saw the truck that
:07:49. > :07:54.was it, and a man coming out of his car with his body burning. The
:07:55. > :08:05.photographer was a wonderful family man, who had recently retired, but
:08:06. > :08:08.came back part`time. On air, emotional bankers were left to
:08:09. > :08:12.report on their friends, and the catastrophe right outside their
:08:13. > :08:15.door. We have reached the point that we can talk about the two people we
:08:16. > :08:21.have lost. This will be a very difficult time. We are just
:08:22. > :08:26.underneath the helipad right now, and you can get a sense of the short
:08:27. > :08:31.distance the helicopter made it before it crashed. Investigators are
:08:32. > :08:47.already interviewing witnesses. We move next overseas to a kind of
:08:48. > :08:57.battle cry from Vladimir Putin. A scathing message for the US about
:08:58. > :09:02.Ukraine. Tonight, Joy in the streets of
:09:03. > :09:12.Moscow. Thousands bellowing the Russian anthem, welcoming Crimea at
:09:13. > :09:16.two Fatherland Russia. This, after their leader, Vladimir Putin,
:09:17. > :09:23.basking in his moment, said Crimea will soon be theirs. We have already
:09:24. > :09:27.achieved much, he said. There is even more to do. We shall prevail,
:09:28. > :09:35.because we are united. Glory to Russia. Vladimir Putin blasting the
:09:36. > :09:39.US for behaving rudely, irresponsibly, and unprofessionally
:09:40. > :09:44.in Ukraine, saying the US had crossed a line. He accused America
:09:45. > :09:52.of hypocrisy, applying power against sovereign states, a clear reference
:09:53. > :09:59.to Iraq. The US shot back. John Kerry calling Putin's moves
:10:00. > :10:04.dangerous. No one doubts Russia's interest in Crimea, but that doesn't
:10:05. > :10:09.legitimise just taking what you want because you want it. Or, because you
:10:10. > :10:14.are angry about the end of the Cold War or the end of the Soviet Union.
:10:15. > :10:19.Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, was shaped by the Cold War,
:10:20. > :10:25.watching the Soviet Union collapsed from this, to this. Now, some of the
:10:26. > :10:29.nations that broke away are watching Russia's moves nervously. That is
:10:30. > :10:35.why vice president Joe Biden is in the region at the moment, reassuring
:10:36. > :10:38.those nations and telling them that the US may rotate American forces to
:10:39. > :10:44.the region for expanded military exercises, and training missions.
:10:45. > :10:49.Tonight, a note about something that is busting family budgets in this
:10:50. > :10:53.country,. The rising price of groceries. We learned today that it
:10:54. > :11:01.ticked up last month, and is expected to rise at least 3.5% this
:11:02. > :11:08.year, which is the biggest spike in years.
:11:09. > :11:14.The Wren Scott wrote his silence, and we are learning new details that
:11:15. > :11:20.could hold clues to the confounding tragedy.
:11:21. > :11:24.From the famous leap private Mick Jagger, a public outpouring of
:11:25. > :11:36.grief. This afternoon, posting a tribute on his website to lost lover
:11:37. > :11:42.the Wren Scott. On Monday, his partner of more than a decade, and a
:11:43. > :11:45.successful fashion designer, was found hanged in her apartment on the
:11:46. > :11:50.leading friends and family struggling to figure out why. From
:11:51. > :11:56.the outside, she seem to have it all. She often posted pictures of
:11:57. > :12:00.her glamorous life on Instagram, and talking about it on her website. I
:12:01. > :12:09.am always looking at what is around me. Like to travel, like art, I like
:12:10. > :12:14.to read. Last month, L'Wren Scott abruptly cancelled a fashion show in
:12:15. > :12:18.London, citing production delays. The company has been revealed as
:12:19. > :12:23.being $6 million in debt at the beginning of 2013. Today, the
:12:24. > :12:31.Rolling Stones postponed seven shows in Australia and New Zealand.
:12:32. > :12:40.In the series of wild weather, we would like to show you what happened
:12:41. > :12:45.in Idaho. A massive Semi truck, no match for winds toppling and
:12:46. > :12:49.skidding across the bridge. Luckily, the driver was able to escape.
:12:50. > :14:39.Coming up next, the grandmother sending life lessons to everyone.
:14:40. > :15:21.He volunteered twice to go to Vietnam, and now he has recieved the
:15:22. > :15:31.congressional medal of honour. He charged into enemy fire armed with
:15:32. > :15:36.as many grenades as he could. He took out several enemy bunkers, and
:15:37. > :15:45.kept going even after he was shot three times. What gives you the
:15:46. > :15:52.ability to do that? To run in the direction of enemy fire. We have got
:15:53. > :15:56.to do what we have got to do. Not a hint of bitterness. 25 individuals
:15:57. > :16:01.who should have received this metal years ago, now receiving them. It is
:16:02. > :16:08.better late than never. Now, a cautionary tale. A student in Italy
:16:09. > :16:18.visiting a museum in Milan saw this statue, and decided to climb up and
:16:19. > :16:23.snap a selfie. Unfortunately, he also snapped off the leg. Luckily,
:16:24. > :16:29.it was only a replica and not the priceless original. Finally, an
:16:30. > :16:34.eight`year`old grandmother has become a sensation. She is known as
:16:35. > :16:44.grandma Batty, and it came when she decided to get a gift from her
:16:45. > :16:52.grandson. Her grandson set up with Instagram,
:16:53. > :17:00.after she was diagnosed with Council. I don't think about it. A
:17:01. > :17:07.week ago she had 5000 followers, and today she has 206,000. That is a lot
:17:08. > :17:16.of people, isn't it? Hip young things. I don't know who you are,
:17:17. > :17:20.but I love you. That is a lot of good people watching good old
:17:21. > :17:30.grandma. Her upbeat photos are in inspiration. We thank you for
:17:31. > :17:47.watching. We are always here@BBCNews.com.
:17:48. > :17:48.For the time being, we was quick mild air across
