:00:00. > :00:00.their quest at others are paying with their lives. `` but others. The

:00:00. > :00:00.sport a bit later on. Time now for a look at the news as seen across the

:00:07. > :00:10.United States a couple of hours ago in ABC World News with Diane Sawyer.

:00:11. > :00:19.Welcome. Tonight, anguish and outrage. Devastated relatives told

:00:20. > :00:24.there are no survivors from the missing plane. What led to that

:00:25. > :00:28.announcement and why some are still demanding proof.

:00:29. > :00:31.In the West, the race against time to reach any survivors buried in a

:00:32. > :00:35.massive mudslide. New hope in the battle against skin

:00:36. > :00:38.cancer and how to spot trouble early.

:00:39. > :00:43.And the star witness. The woman shot to death by her boyfriend Oscar

:00:44. > :00:52.Pistorius, her words in court today describing her fear.

:00:53. > :01:02.Good evening. After 17 days of mystery, we learned today that all

:01:03. > :01:05.that stands between fragile hope and a brutal reality is one sentence.

:01:06. > :01:10.The government of Malaysia today told the families of 239 people

:01:11. > :01:14.their loved ones will not be coming home. That new evidence concludes

:01:15. > :01:19.the plane plunged into the ocean. Today, what have officials learned

:01:20. > :01:26.that makes them so certain and what about the debris in the water? Is

:01:27. > :01:32.that from flight 370? We begin on that shattering news for the

:01:33. > :01:36.families. It is therefore with deep

:01:37. > :01:44.sadness... The Malaysian prime minister delivered the news we have

:01:45. > :01:52.all dreaded. Flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

:01:53. > :02:00.Today in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur, heartbreak. As the Malaysian

:02:01. > :02:11.government announced that the final flight path was narrowed down

:02:12. > :02:15.through `` data from a satellite. The plot matches that of the

:02:16. > :02:21.southern route, not the northern route. The exact spot it went down

:02:22. > :02:26.is still unknown. Earlier today, new clues. An Australian plane spotted

:02:27. > :02:31.debris. A grey or green circular object and an orange rectangular

:02:32. > :02:35.object. We don't yet know if they were from the plane. Searchers

:02:36. > :02:41.marked the area with smoke flares. For one week, they have been guided

:02:42. > :02:45.by greenie satellite images. Combing this remote stretch of sea, bigger

:02:46. > :02:52.than California. `` grainy satellite images. Once they find the debris,

:02:53. > :02:58.the wreckage is likely to be miles away and miles down. Finding it will

:02:59. > :03:04.require drones like these. The computer models we have shows the

:03:05. > :03:12.debris has moved almost 500 kilometres away from where it was

:03:13. > :03:18.originated. It has been so long and the currents are strong. Tonight, an

:03:19. > :03:21.Australian warship is headed into collect and confirmed the possible

:03:22. > :03:24.debris. But if you thought the first part of the search was difficult,

:03:25. > :03:34.get ready. The second part, they will be flying blind on the ocean

:03:35. > :03:40.floor, deeper than the Titanic. Alcoa responded is in Kuala Lumpur,

:03:41. > :03:46.with the families as they struggle. `` our correspondent is in.

:03:47. > :03:50.For the families of the 239 passengers and crew, the news was

:03:51. > :03:59.devastating. At this hotel in Beijing, where many families have

:04:00. > :04:06.been living, raw grief. Others brought out by stretcher. There was

:04:07. > :04:11.also anger. Malaysian Airlines is lying, this man shouts. The families

:04:12. > :04:15.I met Cech to themselves today. Patrick was the chief steward on the

:04:16. > :04:20.plane. Three days ago, his wife and four children told me they have been

:04:21. > :04:25.burning the scandal since the plane disappeared, so he could find his

:04:26. > :04:31.way home, at least in spirit. If it's in the ocean, it's final. He

:04:32. > :04:35.comes back in a different way. Which is what we want. I talked to her

:04:36. > :04:39.about one hour after that announcement. She was absolutely in

:04:40. > :04:41.tears but she was surrounded by her family. Her priest and a

:04:42. > :04:53.representative from the airline. In that bowl, the candle was still wet.

:04:54. > :04:59.Thank you. We have an aviation consultant with us and our

:05:00. > :05:05.correspondent. How convinced our American investigators that these

:05:06. > :05:08.families should give up hope? They are convinced the aircraft is in the

:05:09. > :05:11.southern Indian Ocean. What we learned today from the satellite

:05:12. > :05:18.companies, data points, they put together some additional and they

:05:19. > :05:24.had others check that data. But the fact they did it today says to me

:05:25. > :05:28.they know even more. There will be national security assets used. I'm

:05:29. > :05:36.sure they aren't telling us everything. What about the debris?

:05:37. > :05:42.We are seeing more and more sightings of debris. What does it

:05:43. > :05:47.tell you? Looking at debris in the ocean is difficult. When an air

:05:48. > :05:51.plane hits on land, it creates a pattern that investigators can look

:05:52. > :05:54.at. Although they are looking at small pieces, they also have the

:05:55. > :05:59.whole of the puzzle. When it hits water, the wind and currents and the

:06:00. > :06:04.tide disburse the debris. It is difficult. We are looking at

:06:05. > :06:07.individual clues and it makes it difficult to did use anything

:06:08. > :06:13.specific as to why the air plane came down, which is why we need to

:06:14. > :06:22.get to the black box. David, we have a black box here. Show us where the

:06:23. > :06:27.ping is. It is kind of a metronome sound. Let's listen to it. This is

:06:28. > :06:32.what the crafts will be listening for. But there is a chance it won't

:06:33. > :06:39.be working. Then they have to use sonar to look for debris. But the

:06:40. > :06:45.only hope is that sound at the bottom of the ocean? Get into this

:06:46. > :06:49.box. We thank David and Steve and the entire team. They will be

:06:50. > :06:55.providing you with the latest online always.

:06:56. > :06:58.Baccy, a massive mudslide out west, more than 100 people missing and a

:06:59. > :07:06.brace against time to find them. `` back here. These images of those

:07:07. > :07:11.rescued. A four`year`old boy and the devastation below. We hear tonight

:07:12. > :07:16.from survivors that the mud struck with lightning speed, rising up to

:07:17. > :07:19.their chests. Hovercraft joined a small fleet of

:07:20. > :07:24.helicopters today over what looks nothing like the community, looking

:07:25. > :07:30.for any signs of life amid the disaster so chaotic officials

:07:31. > :07:36.haven't accounted for over 100 people and they aren't sure what the

:07:37. > :07:40.actual toll of the missing years. The King from the scene these little

:07:41. > :07:48.clues, where 30 homes once stood. This woman said with infrared was

:07:49. > :07:54.like a washing machine. `` picking from the scene. We had mud in our

:07:55. > :08:00.eyes, our nose. I'm grateful I'm alive. The scale is mind blowing.

:08:01. > :08:04.You can see trees that are up to 60 feet tall that have been tossed

:08:05. > :08:08.around like toothpicks and thrown hundreds of yards. The mudslide

:08:09. > :08:13.started here. One square mile sized chunk broken loose, cascading over

:08:14. > :08:18.this valley. Take a look at the community before, dotted by houses

:08:19. > :08:24.to the left of the river. And today, Walmart, levelling everything. The

:08:25. > :08:28.area's only school was closed today. Many of their students lived in the

:08:29. > :08:34.mudslide zone. The school may have been hardest hit? It's not just the

:08:35. > :08:41.school, it's the town and the community. Tonight, some rescue

:08:42. > :08:42.crews are being forced to pull back, fearing more mudslides in the same

:08:43. > :09:04.area. There are definitely more risks of

:09:05. > :09:12.mudslide. This region has had above average rainfall. It's possible we

:09:13. > :09:19.will break the all`time record. Over the next few days, there will be

:09:20. > :09:26.extremely heavy rain. And this area could see up to three inches of rain

:09:27. > :09:33.on Friday. And on the east coast, it's all about this weather system

:09:34. > :09:44.here. This storm will come together Tuesday night into Wednesday. Most

:09:45. > :09:58.of it will hit coastal New England. Again, very strong wind and cold

:09:59. > :10:03.temperatures. Now to be stand`off between Russia and the US. Russia is

:10:04. > :10:08.mobilising tens of thousands of troops and the US is circling the

:10:09. > :10:19.wagons with other world powers full up Russia has been exiled from the

:10:20. > :10:25.G8. As President Obama held an emergency meeting with world leaders

:10:26. > :10:29.today to turn up the heat on Russia, the Russian military added to their

:10:30. > :10:36.forces on Ukraine's border. There are now 30,000 Russian forces there,

:10:37. > :10:42.10,000 added in the last week. NATO's commander says they could

:10:43. > :10:50.invade at any time, seizing not just eastern Ukraine but also parts of

:10:51. > :10:57.Moldova. This force is very sizeable and very ready. Today, President

:10:58. > :11:05.Obama pledged to stand with Ukraine. Europe and America are

:11:06. > :11:11.united in our support of Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people.

:11:12. > :11:20.And tonight, Russia has been suspended from the G8. Now, it's the

:11:21. > :11:27.G`7. Vladimir Putin says his troops are there on the border for military

:11:28. > :11:31.exercises and nothing more. But one Western official says we have every

:11:32. > :11:43.reason to be sceptical of what the Russians are saying. And new hope

:11:44. > :11:46.for people worried about melanoma. Over this last week, a beloved

:11:47. > :11:57.Hollywood actor lost his battle with the disease. But there is news of a

:11:58. > :12:04.possible game changing new drug on its way. A familiar face. The

:12:05. > :12:08.65`year`old lost his battle with melanoma this weekend, once again

:12:09. > :12:14.putting into focus just how dangerous the disease can be. It's

:12:15. > :12:18.the deadliest form of skin cancer. The average survival for advanced

:12:19. > :12:24.melanoma without treatment is months. But tonight, there is word

:12:25. > :12:31.that new drugs could be headed to the market as early as next year.

:12:32. > :12:41.These new treatments can stimulate the body's immune system. This is

:12:42. > :12:45.how it works. Melanoma is so hard to stop because it can turn off your

:12:46. > :12:51.body's ability to attack it. These new drugs can event that. Clinical

:12:52. > :12:58.trials have been promising. While not a cure, the drug can increase

:12:59. > :13:04.short`term survival. That can mean everything to sufferers. Last year,

:13:05. > :13:09.this woman feared she had just months to live but after being

:13:10. > :13:16.admitted to a drug trial last year, she says her scans are completely

:13:17. > :13:24.clear. It's amazing and I don't even feel sick. Doctors say that the

:13:25. > :13:31.trick is early identification. Early detection is critical. Doctors say

:13:32. > :13:36.don't forget to check spots you might not think of like behind your

:13:37. > :13:48.knees or between your toes. And if you have any question at all, get it

:13:49. > :13:53.checked out. Coming up: Girlfriend who became the prosecution's most

:13:54. > :14:45.devastating witness against Oscar Pistorius.

:14:46. > :14:55.Now to the trial of Oscar Pistorius. They were a red carpet couple, Oscar

:14:56. > :15:03.Pistorius and free `` Reeva Steenkamp. But in a series of text

:15:04. > :15:08.messages, Reeva Steenkamp's voice from the grave. Those words were

:15:09. > :15:14.read aloud by a police expert. This was the first time we have been able

:15:15. > :15:17.to see the inner workings of what was it all to us relationship. That

:15:18. > :15:30.storybook image was shattered. Oscar Pistorius is accused of

:15:31. > :15:39.murdering Reeva Steenkamp. He says he mistook her for an intruder. Most

:15:40. > :15:45.of the messages were mundane. She seemed loyal to Oscar Pistorius but

:15:46. > :16:06.sometimes was afraid of him. In some messages, he sounded jealous and

:16:07. > :16:11.quick to anger. She often offended. `` she was often offended. But only

:16:12. > :16:19.one person knows what really happened that night.

:16:20. > :16:25.Tonight, a provocative new clue about trouble having a baby. A new

:16:26. > :16:32.study finds that the more stress a woman has, the harder it is to get

:16:33. > :16:36.pregnant. Researchers measured and enzyme found in saliva and found

:16:37. > :16:42.that women with high distress were more likely to be in photo.

:16:43. > :16:51.Researchers recommend yoga, meditation. `` were more likely to

:16:52. > :16:58.be infertile. And now, listen to this voice.

:16:59. > :17:04.Johnny cash. It has been 11 years since he died but that song is on

:17:05. > :17:09.his new album recorded in 1984 and it has been sitting on the shelf.

:17:10. > :17:17.Tonight, his family are calling these songs johnny cash at his

:17:18. > :17:22.prime. The album comes out tomorrow. Exciting news to share from our

:17:23. > :17:34.family. Then Sherwood was named today as the next co`chairman of

:17:35. > :17:41.Disney media networks. He will take over when the incumbent steps down

:17:42. > :17:48.next year. He has been an energetic and passionate contributor to this

:17:49. > :17:55.newsroom and that won't change as he moves to his new position in

:17:56. > :18:03.California. Tonight, a new movie that has everyone talking before it

:18:04. > :18:10.reaches theatres. It has been a favourite story for many children in

:18:11. > :18:21.Bible school, Noah and the flood and the animals. But what does the movie

:18:22. > :18:27.say about the story? Noah, just like in the Bible, is a man consumed by

:18:28. > :18:33.God's message to save the animals from the deluge and start a new.

:18:34. > :18:42.Now, one of Hollywood's's most vivid directors is bringing us his take on

:18:43. > :18:46.the end of humanity. Everything in it is a miracle, everything is

:18:47. > :18:54.mystical. A says he has been passionate about the story of Noah

:18:55. > :19:00.since he was 13 years old. You don't want to mess with it. You just want

:19:01. > :19:09.to bring new life to it. He says Russell Crowe's depiction of Noah is

:19:10. > :19:11.based on the original text. This is the man who stood by while the

:19:12. > :19:19.entire population of the planet died. He is not benevolent. He is

:19:20. > :19:26.not even nice. The first thing he does when he gets to land is he gets

:19:27. > :19:34.really drunk. And that was a clue for us. After surviving and after

:19:35. > :19:39.this moment, he gets so drunk that he gets naked and curses his own

:19:40. > :19:44.son. They used the Bible as a blueprint for the Ark, which most of

:19:45. > :19:52.us think of as a ship but which the Bible describes as a rectangle that

:19:53. > :19:58.did not need a keel to navigate. This biblical epic has been told

:19:59. > :20:00.since time immemorial and is being brought to the screen for the first

:20:01. > :20:28.time. Thank you watching us. It looks like the month will close

:20:29. > :20:29.on a chilly note, with temperatures quite well
