:00:07. > :00:13.Mike Embley will be here in 20 minutes time. Welcome to ABC World

:00:14. > :00:20.News. Pride and courage one year after the terror attack at the time.

:00:21. > :00:24.A crime, we see that man wheeled into court on a charge that killing

:00:25. > :00:27.people at Jewish centres and show you the firing rate still burning in

:00:28. > :00:33.America. While they were sleeping, and into the looks through rooms and

:00:34. > :00:37.looks at the baby and the one thing the sheriff in town is asking

:00:38. > :00:41.everyone to do. And attention shoppers or if the prices

:00:42. > :00:55.skyrocketing, we will show you which foods are cheaper. Good evening to

:00:56. > :00:59.you and we are all lost and strong on this Tuesday night as we honour

:01:00. > :01:04.the great American city one year after a terror attack on the

:01:05. > :01:09.marathon. One year of resilience. Heroes and survivors gathered at the

:01:10. > :01:17.finish lines ringing that surprising stories of what is happening. Our

:01:18. > :01:23.correspondent is there for us tonight as he was one year ago. Good

:01:24. > :01:28.evening. Or they long, the message out of my home town of Boston has

:01:29. > :01:33.been restore clear that the courage that we saw in response to the

:01:34. > :01:42.attacks will vastly outweighed the malignant intentions of the

:01:43. > :01:50.attackers. Even the many children in the choir who performed today was an

:01:51. > :01:54.eloquent rebuttal to hatred. As it was the grace and click on display

:01:55. > :01:59.from survivors like Patrick Downes, he and his wife Jessica each lost a

:02:00. > :02:03.leg. We would never wish the devastation on any of you. However,

:02:04. > :02:11.we do wish that all of you at some point in your lives feel as loved as

:02:12. > :02:18.we have felt over this last year. This would also lost a leg.

:02:19. > :02:20.Milestone is too small to celebrate. Even walking into a non` handicap

:02:21. > :02:28.out through mist of the first time, doing a down. By that yes, there

:02:29. > :02:35.were last today as well as the fine. The Wii are Boston, we are America

:02:36. > :02:41.and we respond, we endure and overcome and we own the finish

:02:42. > :02:48.lines. After the tribute, a moment of silence in the rain at the finish

:02:49. > :02:54.lines of the marathon. The exact moment those bombs went off one year

:02:55. > :02:58.and go. The first explosion took the life of this woman. 12 seconds

:02:59. > :03:04.later, the bomb at the best woman and this eight`year`old boy. His

:03:05. > :03:11.family placed a reef at the very spot today. That second blast also

:03:12. > :03:19.took the left leg of this woman who has learnt to walk and even run

:03:20. > :03:22.again. She now has four prosthetics, including a waterproof one and one

:03:23. > :03:28.for a high heels. Did you know how tough you were? No. If somebody told

:03:29. > :03:33.me this was going to happen, I would have been devastated. I had no idea

:03:34. > :03:40.I had it in me. So much strength over the past year. This man from

:03:41. > :03:43.this iconic photo, rescued by a complete stranger. Now, he and his

:03:44. > :03:51.fiancee are expecting their first AB in July. This woman sprawled on the

:03:52. > :03:56.street, now dating a firefighter who held her hands in the ambulance on

:03:57. > :04:00.whose body was littered with whose body was littered with

:04:01. > :04:06.shrapnel told me today that the attack had changed his view of the

:04:07. > :04:13.world. It was just one split`2nd but is followed by a list seconds of the

:04:14. > :04:19.best. Coming up, another big display of Boston Strong, the running of the

:04:20. > :04:25.marathon. They are expecting 9000 more runners this year. A crowd

:04:26. > :04:31.expected to reach 1 million. The theme of the race this year, we will

:04:32. > :04:35.run again. It's great to have you back home

:04:36. > :04:43.tonight. Thank you. As the city of lost and stand in strength, the

:04:44. > :04:51.accused, , is in a prison cell. Our correspondent is here with more. He

:04:52. > :04:56.is in isolation in a small cell outside Boston. He is 20 years old.

:04:57. > :05:05.He has visited include his lawyers and sisters. He is given meals but

:05:06. > :05:09.no radio or TV. His lawyers say his defence will be he was under the

:05:10. > :05:13.sway of his older brother who was killed in a police shooting. That I

:05:14. > :05:19.was very sophisticated, is there anything new about who helped them?

:05:20. > :05:21.It turned out they made three or four separate devices, much more

:05:22. > :05:28.sophisticated than they first thought. There is concern that

:05:29. > :05:36.perhaps, they were trained or at least the older brother was trained

:05:37. > :05:42.on his trip to Russia. The trial is on November three in Boston and he

:05:43. > :05:50.faces a number of counts. A jury trial in Boston. Thank you. Next, we

:05:51. > :05:55.had to chaos in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin has reportedly said it is now

:05:56. > :06:00.a country on the brink of civil war. As America and Russia wait in the

:06:01. > :06:07.wings. What happens in our? Our correspondent takes us to Ukraine.

:06:08. > :06:12.Striking back, Ukraine's military today launching an offensive to

:06:13. > :06:17.stump out Pro`Russian violence. This is Ukraine's antiterrorist operation

:06:18. > :06:20.in full swing. The helicopters, loaded with Special Forces. We

:06:21. > :06:27.presume going to take back what has been seized by Russian forces. Their

:06:28. > :06:30.first target in occupied airfield, weekly one back. Reports of wounded

:06:31. > :06:33.protesters raising fears in Washington that Moscow will use

:06:34. > :06:38.bloodshed as an excuse to invade. Touring America deeper into this

:06:39. > :06:44.dangerous down. Most here find themselves caught in the middle. I

:06:45. > :06:49.do not want troops to be here. It is very dangerous for our people. For

:06:50. > :06:54.now, life goes on. As the operation got under way, that may soon

:06:55. > :06:56.change, tonight the US is threatening more sanctions against

:06:57. > :07:13.Russia for meddling in Ukraine. Similarly, a last`ditch effort to

:07:14. > :07:17.stop the march to war. Back at home to Kansas and the hate

:07:18. > :07:20.fuelled rampage at two Jewish centres over the weekend. Today, the

:07:21. > :07:21.73`year`old man charged in that shooting appeared in court for the

:07:22. > :07:26.first time. This is what happened. He looked

:07:27. > :07:32.dishevelled and disoriented. The 73`year`old had to be wheeled to his

:07:33. > :07:38.court appearance. He had no friends or family in the court room. The

:07:39. > :07:44.judge assigned him a free lawyer and said his bond at $10 million. He

:07:45. > :07:54.started hating young. He is a lifelong anti`Semite. In the 1980s,

:07:55. > :08:01.he led the white Patriots party, 5000 strong. Today, state hostages

:08:02. > :08:05.armed with the death penalty charged him with first degree and capital

:08:06. > :08:07.murder for the three shooting deaths at the Jewish community centre.

:08:08. > :08:12.Prosecutors say he intended to kill Jews but he didn't know that all

:08:13. > :08:22.three victims were Christian. The law centre says while attacks from

:08:23. > :08:29.hate crimes are falling, certain attacks are on the rise. Hate groups

:08:30. > :08:34.are rising because there are some big trend happening that scare

:08:35. > :08:36.people that have white supremacist views. The biggest thing is that

:08:37. > :08:42.this country is becoming increasingly diverse. Their home is

:08:43. > :08:46.on the internet. The accused gunman posted almost 12,000 times to racist

:08:47. > :08:53.discussion boards, filled with congratulations since the killings.

:08:54. > :08:58.Now we turn to note about the weather across the country. Which

:08:59. > :09:04.will it be today, shorts or snow suits? Severe storms sweeping across

:09:05. > :09:09.the south toppled this huge tree and traps to women inside. More than

:09:10. > :09:12.three inches of snow fell in Detroit. They have had the snowiest

:09:13. > :09:17.season there in recorded history. This message on a car windshield

:09:18. > :09:26.says it all. Tonight, rising food prices. For some items, four times

:09:27. > :09:32.the price we paid a few months ago. When will this end? We break it down

:09:33. > :09:38.and look at the surprise as some foods are quietly getting cheaper.

:09:39. > :09:43.Items once taken for granted are fast becoming delicacies. Like

:09:44. > :09:53.lines. Prices have quadrupled over the last couple of months. `` limes.

:09:54. > :09:57.Floods and a tree disease in Mexico turning these routes into green

:09:58. > :10:04.gold. At home, restaurant owners say they are getting squeezed. Prices

:10:05. > :10:07.have gone up a lot. It takes a hit on the restaurants. These fruits are

:10:08. > :10:09.becoming so precious, it'll across the country are having to improvise.

:10:10. > :10:16.Some of them using lemons. They are roughly half the price. At the

:10:17. > :10:20.butchers, beef hasn't cost this much since 1987. And under the sea, it is

:10:21. > :10:28.strength. A disease limiting supply and driving up prices by more than

:10:29. > :10:33.60%. `` shrimp. But there are bargains. Lobsters are dropping in

:10:34. > :10:40.price. And lettuce. It is 17% cheaper. Coffey, peanut butter and

:10:41. > :10:46.ice cream also down. A small silver line in a marketplace of rising

:10:47. > :10:52.prices. `` coffee. It is finally over. For five days,

:10:53. > :10:57.Oscar Pistorius took his own life in his hands by agreeing to testify in

:10:58. > :11:02.the trial accusing him of murder. Trial that will find him guilty or

:11:03. > :11:07.innocent. His final day included a hand written Valentine, the last

:11:08. > :11:13.words from the girl he shot. In his final moments on the stand,

:11:14. > :11:18.Oscar Pistorius read aloud a Valentine from his model girlfriend

:11:19. > :11:27.Reeva Steenkamp. She gave it to him just hours before he shot her.

:11:28. > :11:34.It was a poignant end to his cooling and emotional testimony. Oscar

:11:35. > :11:39.Pistorius admits killing her but calls it an accident, claiming he

:11:40. > :11:43.mistook her for an intruder. But the man they call the bull terrier went

:11:44. > :11:49.further. He read contradictions in his story. The hats the most

:11:50. > :11:50.devastating, what Oscar Pistorius said he did when he first thought he

:11:51. > :12:04.heard an intruder. A clear contradiction. Even the

:12:05. > :12:12.facts revealed the food in Reeva Steenkamp's stomach, the story

:12:13. > :12:14.claims they had a quiet dinner early and went to bed but a pathologist

:12:15. > :12:17.testified she still had food in her stomach. It indicates they may have

:12:18. > :12:27.gone to bed and was later than Oscar Pistorius says.

:12:28. > :12:34.Oscar Pistorius, after an emotional seven days on the stand, now that's

:12:35. > :12:39.over and it is up to his defence lawyers to convince the judge and is

:12:40. > :12:43.too insistent that he did not kill Reeva Steenkamp on purpose. Legal

:12:44. > :12:51.experts say with the prosecution destroying his credibility, his

:12:52. > :12:55.defence team has a tough road ahead. And the judge will decide his guilt

:12:56. > :13:01.or innocence. That decision is expected to take months.

:13:02. > :13:05.Next, a sheriff issues a warning about this video. While the family

:13:06. > :13:10.were sleeping, an intruder looked through the home, hovering over the

:13:11. > :14:40.baby in the crib. A sheriff is asking everyone to do something.

:14:41. > :14:46.Tonight, a sheriff has released a truly unnerving video and a plea to

:14:47. > :14:48.everyone who sees it. A family in the Houston suburbs sleeping. A

:14:49. > :14:51.child in a crib, an intruder moving silently through the home. What are

:14:52. > :14:57.his lessons about home safety and surveillance?

:14:58. > :15:01.It is every parent's worst nightmare and these parents caught it on their

:15:02. > :15:04.home surveillance camera. A burglar creeping around their baby's room

:15:05. > :15:07.while they slept. Watch a game as the intruder shines his flashlight

:15:08. > :15:18.right at the child before he moves on.

:15:19. > :15:24.It happened at home outside Houston earlier this month and, tonight, the

:15:25. > :15:30.sheriff department released the video, hoping to find the burglar.

:15:31. > :15:36.He think he `` they think he is between 16 and 18 and detectives say

:15:37. > :15:38.the homeowners and the baby slept through the whole thing. In fact,

:15:39. > :15:41.the victims didn't know they had been ripped off until neighbours

:15:42. > :15:44.found a laptop and briefcase in their front yard the next morning.

:15:45. > :15:50.The burglar also took $60 in cash from the home owner's wallet.

:15:51. > :15:55.Nationally, burglaries are down. Statistics show the crime fell 8%

:15:56. > :15:56.last year but tonight the sheriffs office says this video is a warning

:15:57. > :16:13.for every parent. At least the thief didn't touch the

:16:14. > :16:21.parents' most valuable asset, that baby who tonight is safe, despite a

:16:22. > :16:29.very close encounter with a burglar. Did you see the blood Moon? The

:16:30. > :16:34.lunar eclipse captured on camera by stargazers around the world? Here in

:16:35. > :16:40.Texas and in Florida. And in Brazil. And in Mexico. It glowed red for 3.5

:16:41. > :16:47.hours, peaked around 3am Eastern Time. One person said it was

:16:48. > :16:52.definitely worth the wait all. If you missed it, you will have another

:16:53. > :16:59.chance on the 8th of October. `` worth the wait. Where the shadow

:17:00. > :17:03.is deepest, the light shines brightest. So many strangers

:17:04. > :17:06.reunited at the finish line of the Boston marathon for a new journey

:17:07. > :17:13.together that has just begun. We go behind this picture. Today's

:17:14. > :17:19.Memorial was but a moment we can share as a nation. For these people,

:17:20. > :17:25.survivors come first responders, he arose. Brought together by the

:17:26. > :17:33.Boston bombing that links them forever. `` heroes. Fetes

:17:34. > :17:38.intertwined in 13 seconds. This man, way in the back. One year ago today

:17:39. > :17:44.he was front and centre, carried a little boy out of harms way. That

:17:45. > :17:49.picture carried around the world. Last night he wrote, I noticed I had

:17:50. > :17:54.a lot of blood on my yellow vest. When I learned he was OK, music to

:17:55. > :18:00.my ears. Then this woman, a bomb to both her legs. Not her spirit. Front

:18:01. > :18:05.row in the photograph, her husband and daughter behind her. One year

:18:06. > :18:12.ago, this man used a makeshift tourniquet to save his bride. She

:18:13. > :18:18.has been inspiring her family. She is my inspiration. She is a lot

:18:19. > :18:23.tougher than me. Next week she will finish what she started. Watch her

:18:24. > :18:27.sister finish that maritime. My dream is to be at that finish line.

:18:28. > :18:36.I think of us holding hands and crossing the finish line.

:18:37. > :18:38.We have more at abcnews.com. Great to be with you tonight. See you

:18:39. > :18:58.tomorrow. Many of us have seen some lovely

:18:59. > :18:59.spring sunshine in the last few days
