:01:05. > :01:15.Good evening. We have a lot to get to. Beginning with the urgent search

:01:16. > :01:17.for the missing in that terrifying ferry disaster off South Korea.

:01:18. > :01:24.Hundreds of board, any schoolchildren. Tonight, US Navy is

:01:25. > :01:32.fair. Haunting images are streaming in. At nightfall, the ship was

:01:33. > :01:37.barely piercing the water. The families were gathering under

:01:38. > :01:45.blankets, waiting for word. Also tonight, the captain and what he is

:01:46. > :01:50.saying after we learned he was one of the first off the ferry. There

:01:51. > :01:53.are new pictures, taken onboard, just as the horror began to unfold.

:01:54. > :01:57.New images tonight of the world turned on its side. The critical

:01:58. > :02:02.moments after the ferry shifted violently. Watch as survivors cling

:02:03. > :02:10.to anything they can. In this passageway, the boat. Other

:02:11. > :02:14.passengers huddled inside, wearing life jackets. Today we learned the

:02:15. > :02:19.captain abandoned ship 30 minutes after sending out the distress call.

:02:20. > :02:24.This morning, hiding his face from reporters, he apologised. He said, I

:02:25. > :02:28.am sorry and deeply ashamed. Tonight he is under criminal investigation,

:02:29. > :02:34.questioned by police amid growing outrage. Families of the 276 missing

:02:35. > :02:41.are holding out hope that have their loved ones are still alive. Trapped

:02:42. > :02:45.in a pockets in the sunken ship. Rescuers have even tried to pump

:02:46. > :02:49.oxygen into the boat. So far those efforts have been unsuccessful. The

:02:50. > :02:53.official death toll has now climbed to 25. The doomed ferry was carrying

:02:54. > :02:58.almost 500 passengers, most high school students on a class trip,

:02:59. > :03:03.when the boat began to kill. At 8:58am the distress call went out.

:03:04. > :03:08.Passengers were told to put on life jackets and stay inside. In this

:03:09. > :03:15.video, an overhead announcement says... It is safer in the passenger

:03:16. > :03:20.quarters. Cause of that, so many people became trapped inside. At

:03:21. > :03:30.9:27am, one worried student texts his mother, I love you, he writes.

:03:31. > :03:35.Three minutes later, Captain escapes in a lifeboat. One of the first off

:03:36. > :03:41.the ship. On board, a frantic battle for survival. And real`life heroes.

:03:42. > :03:46.An extraordinary acts of sacrifice from this young man, who didn't make

:03:47. > :03:51.it off his ship. His mother hearing of his final act of generosity. His

:03:52. > :03:58.friend was crying, she says, so my son gave him his life jacket. It is

:03:59. > :04:02.just past first light on day three. The US Navy is involved but key

:04:03. > :04:09.elements are affecting everyone. Bad weather, making it tough to see

:04:10. > :04:13.above and below the waters. Rescue divers have had to be rescued

:04:14. > :04:15.themselves, with every moment so critical.

:04:16. > :04:17.Desperate scenes. Thank you. Now to the other breaking story. The

:04:18. > :04:23.dramatic pictures coming in from Ukraine. The gunfire explosions on

:04:24. > :04:26.camera. It comes as we learnt from President Obama of a new agreement

:04:27. > :04:35.with Russia. The question, will it work? The while, President Putin's

:04:36. > :04:40.comments that made global headlines. Molotov cocktails and bursts of

:04:41. > :04:44.gunfire, as armed pro`Russia protesters attacked the Ukrainian

:05:08. > :05:10.Russia, US and EU, that all sides would refrain from violence. Illegal

:05:11. > :05:18.armed groups `` armed troops disarm and Ukraine gives amnesty. There is

:05:19. > :05:22.the possibility, the prospect, that diplomacy may de`escalate the

:05:23. > :05:28.situation. President Putin's annual call`in show was today, lasting four

:05:29. > :05:33.hours. Questions from across Russia, even from Edward Snowden. President

:05:34. > :05:38.Putin says Russia has historic claims of eastern Ukraine and he

:05:39. > :05:41.says he reserves the right to send in Russian troops. This as the

:05:42. > :05:47.already violent crisis has taken on `` the violent dimension. It is said

:05:48. > :05:54.anti`Semitic fliers were handed out in one part of the country. This is

:05:55. > :05:57.not just intolerable, it is grotesque and beyond unacceptable.

:05:58. > :06:02.It is unclear who is responsible. And if this message is a hoax. The

:06:03. > :06:08.question is, will the deal ease the tensions?

:06:09. > :06:12.Thank you. The White House revealing that pact with Russia late today and

:06:13. > :06:15.revealing something else. The president says his healthcare plan

:06:16. > :06:20.has passed another milestone. 8 million Americans have signed up for

:06:48. > :06:55.out there but close to the Royal two feet of snow in places. Today, the

:06:56. > :06:59.long`range forecast is out. It seems someone forgot to tell the upper
