:00:00. > :00:00.for a look at the news as seen across the United States a couple of

:00:00. > :00:12.hours ago, in ABC World News with Dianne Sawyer.

:00:16. > :00:22.happened on that impossible flight. Tonight, his father speaks out. On

:00:23. > :00:24.edge, Russia is use a new military threat. Our reporter is face`to`face

:00:25. > :00:31.with a man holding an American captive in Ukraine. And, the women

:00:32. > :00:35.made the most beautiful person. The national conversation she opened

:00:36. > :00:39.about very dark skin. We will show you some stunning things little

:00:40. > :00:47.girls say about dolls with different skin colours.

:00:48. > :00:57.Good evening. We begin with late work about that teenager, the

:00:58. > :01:02.stowaway Andy ongoing mystery of what happened on the jumbo jet where

:01:03. > :01:05.he is as he was tucked inside the freezing wheel the hours. It is a

:01:06. > :01:10.story that has raised questions about how he outsmarted security.

:01:11. > :01:15.Tonight, his father is speaking out about the risk and what may have

:01:16. > :01:20.motivated his son. Tonight, the 15`year`old stowaway's

:01:21. > :01:24.father says he was shocked to learn about what he called, his sons ex`

:01:25. > :01:34.Jordan and dangerous trip in the wheel well off 8767.

:01:35. > :01:49.The cab driver said he saw his son on Friday.

:01:50. > :01:56.But the FBI report that the team had a bite with his family and ran away.

:01:57. > :02:00.In the middle of the night, after 1am, he was caught on video cameras

:02:01. > :02:05.jumping the fence at the airport but no one saw him. He was in that wheel

:02:06. > :02:11.well for more than a fight or flight with little oxygen. And the bridges

:02:12. > :02:14.at least 50 below. Not discovered until he crawled out of the wheel

:02:15. > :02:20.well one hour after the flight landed. He transferred to a new

:02:21. > :02:24.school and his father said he was ordered to be struggling in some

:02:25. > :02:33.classes. There have been suggestions that the boy wanted to go to Africa.

:02:34. > :02:36.But that apparently wasn't his plan when he jumped the fence in

:02:37. > :02:42.California. An official in Hawaii was told he climbed into the first

:02:43. > :02:47.plane he saw. The teenager is still in a hospital in Hawaii. He is under

:02:48. > :02:54.custody of child services. The airlines Co said they have not known

:02:55. > :02:59.whether the wheel well was checked before the flight. The search for

:03:00. > :03:06.the missing passenger jet, 47 days after it disappeared. Investigators

:03:07. > :03:14.are investigating sheet metal that has washed ashore. No indication yet

:03:15. > :03:19.if it is part of that missing plane. Back here at home, big News tonight.

:03:20. > :03:23.Any challenge on the highly charged issue of guns in America. Tonight,

:03:24. > :03:35.Georgia has opened a new front of the debate. The governor signed a

:03:36. > :03:39.bill. Critics are calling it the guns everywhere law. Depending on

:03:40. > :03:45.how you see it, it is either one of the most frightening or most

:03:46. > :03:50.progressive gun laws in the country. Long overdue. A tremendous victory.

:03:51. > :03:54.People in Georgia can bring firearms into bars, libraries, churches and

:03:55. > :04:01.government buildings. People convicted of Mr can now legally get

:04:02. > :04:06.gun permits and police can no longer stop someone if they suspect they

:04:07. > :04:10.are carrying a gun. The law gives businesses and schools are right to

:04:11. > :04:15.say no without a sign or noticed and in guns. The's governor up for

:04:16. > :04:21.election signed a law with pleasure. I would put into law a gun

:04:22. > :04:25.bill that heralds the defence, personal liberties and public

:04:26. > :04:32.safety. Here, there are many supporters. People should be able to

:04:33. > :04:38.carry it on their person. When we visited this range outside Atlanta,

:04:39. > :04:41.we'd met college kid and executives. You should have the right to protect

:04:42. > :04:50.yourself. Gun`control supporters are sounding the alarm. To do it in the

:04:51. > :05:00.name of safety, it is tragic. VC Georgia went the wrong way. Next, a

:05:01. > :05:04.kind of double their between the US and Russia over the tension in

:05:05. > :05:08.Ukraine. Tonight, the paratroopers have landed in Poland. A show of

:05:09. > :05:17.force that was not lost on Russia. Our correspondent is on the ground.

:05:18. > :05:21.A show of force as American paratroopers arrived today in

:05:22. > :05:24.Poland, a clear message to Moscow which responded today saying is

:05:25. > :05:33.ready react militarily if it interests are attacked. Ukraine says

:05:34. > :05:39.it is relaunching it antiterrorism operation. So far, unsuccessful

:05:40. > :05:43.attempt to quash unrest sweeping Eastern Ukraine where pro`Russian

:05:44. > :05:48.forces have seized government buildings, even towns. Attention is

:05:49. > :05:56.I is, so have a number of threats against journalist. Is troops...

:05:57. > :06:05.Reporter from America has been detained for two days. Today, we

:06:06. > :06:08.went to see the man. He was giving incorrect, one`sided information the

:06:09. > :06:15.mayor told us. He said he needs to be taught a lesson. Is he being

:06:16. > :06:24.treated well? Nothing unpleasant is happening to him. He assured us that

:06:25. > :06:27.the journalist would be released. The US is calling on Russia to use

:06:28. > :06:39.its influence with those groups to get him and other We want to bring

:06:40. > :06:42.you up to date on Madeleine McCann, the little girl with the infectious

:06:43. > :06:47.smile, missing for several years after vanishing from a hotel room

:06:48. > :06:52.while on vacation with her family in Portugal. Today, Scotland Yard

:06:53. > :06:56.revealed details of five other cases they are studying. Each involving a

:06:57. > :06:59.male intruder who allegedly slipped into holiday villas and sexually

:07:00. > :07:03.assaulted children. The incidents happened near where she was staying

:07:04. > :07:10.in the years before she disappeared. One of the victims was attacked at

:07:11. > :07:15.the same villa. Next here tonight, a Brian Ross investigation about a

:07:16. > :07:19.popular brand of products. You may have heard of the brand Herbalife.

:07:20. > :07:24.The company says that its milkshakes and supplements help you lose weight

:07:25. > :07:26.and live a healthy life, but hidden cameras show you what the

:07:27. > :07:34.distributors said behind closed doors.

:07:35. > :07:39.With hundreds of thousands of American independent distributors.

:07:40. > :07:46.The Herbalife company says that business has never been better.

:07:47. > :07:50.Despite two federal investigations and allegations by critics it is an

:07:51. > :07:55.illegal permit scheme which Herbalife denies. The $6 billion

:07:56. > :08:01.company produces a range of diet powders and nutrition products which

:08:02. > :08:05.are sold by its distributors. The company also remains under a court

:08:06. > :08:10.order from the 1980s, not to make false or misleading representations,

:08:11. > :08:17.of the products health benefits. Herbalife board members say it is

:08:18. > :08:21.essential. They give people false hope. They might not go to the

:08:22. > :08:27.doctors. In training materials, the company tells distributors not to

:08:28. > :08:31.say that it can help prevent or treat diseases. This is what

:08:32. > :08:35.undercover reporters found. This distributor told us the story of a

:08:36. > :08:42.woman who overcame an inoperable brain tumour thanks to Herbalife.

:08:43. > :08:47.This is the president of Herbalife. Does it to your brain tumours?

:08:48. > :08:52.Absolutely not, I am appalled to hear you say this. What is happening

:08:53. > :08:54.here is an absolute violation of our rules. Does it to your brain

:08:55. > :08:57.tumours? Absolutely not, I am appalled to hear you say this. What

:08:58. > :09:03.is happening here is an absolute violation of our rules. Doesn't

:09:04. > :09:06.happen often organised by veteran distributors, new recruits were told

:09:07. > :09:19.Herbalife products help to treat heart disease. In Spanish, it

:09:20. > :09:28.treated headaches and anaemia. And even helped one woman to get

:09:29. > :09:34.pregnant. Firstly, it addresses me to hear this. This is happening

:09:35. > :09:38.right now. And this is something that we need to address. And we will

:09:39. > :09:41.do so. These instances are aberrations, they are anomalies,

:09:42. > :09:46.this is not the Herbalife I know. Since our interview, the company has

:09:47. > :09:49.revealed to ABC News that in fact, almost 600 distributors were

:09:50. > :09:55.disciplined last year alone for making medical claims. With 12 of

:09:56. > :09:59.them stripped of their distributorship. Up next here, the

:10:00. > :10:03.woman named most beautiful person today, opened an important

:10:04. > :10:08.conversation about growing up with very dark skin. So, tonight, here

:10:09. > :10:13.are some stunning things little girls say about these girls with

:10:14. > :10:14.different skin colours. A startling moment of truth, and we are back in

:10:15. > :11:32.two minutes. Just today, people magazine named

:11:33. > :11:35.Oscar win a Lupita Nyong'o the most beautiful person of the year. Other

:11:36. > :11:39.African`American women, beyond say, Halley Berry, they have graced the

:11:40. > :11:48.cover. But Lupita Nyong'o has said it was painful for her to be a young

:11:49. > :11:59.girl growing up with dark skin ``Beyonce and Halle Berry. Today,

:12:00. > :12:05.Lupita Nyong'o was named the most beautiful woman of the year. Quite a

:12:06. > :12:10.turn for the actress who recently shared a heartbreaking secret. My

:12:11. > :12:14.one prayer to God was that I would wake up lighter skinned. Owning up

:12:15. > :12:19.to deep`rooted pain that many black women had felt for years. For women

:12:20. > :12:23.of colour... Reporting the story for good morning America, I found myself

:12:24. > :12:28.shaken by old wounds. I understand her journey growing up. Choking up

:12:29. > :12:33.on air, my revelation led to an outpouring of online messages. So

:12:34. > :12:37.many others sharing that dark shame. It led me to wander, in 2014, with

:12:38. > :12:46.the prominence of women like Michelle Obama and Beyonce, surely

:12:47. > :12:51.colour should no longer be an issue? So we spoke to a group of 5` eight

:12:52. > :12:59.`year`olds in a New Jersey school. We showed three dolls with different

:13:00. > :13:04.colours of skin. Which is the most beautiful? We are encouraged to see

:13:05. > :13:08.this girl choosing doll that looked like her. Why is she more beautiful

:13:09. > :13:16.than these other two? She looks mostly like me. Her confidence shone

:13:17. > :13:24.through. But, then watch. We are stunned, again and again, the girls

:13:25. > :13:36.chose the white doll. Why? Because she has one turf. `` blonde hair.

:13:37. > :13:40.What does that say to you about the messages they are getting outside in

:13:41. > :13:45.the world? Blunder, lighter, more European features. They are still

:13:46. > :13:52.seeing as the most desirable `` blonder. Television could be to

:13:53. > :13:57.blame. One study found that 76% of the faces we see white and only 16%

:13:58. > :14:02.are black. That could explain the girl 's response when asked who they

:14:03. > :14:07.preferred look like. This black girl chooses the white doll. It reveals

:14:08. > :14:17.the problem. `` she reveals the problem. For me, is sobering moment

:14:18. > :14:20.of truth as I watch with parents, especially when we see what happens

:14:21. > :14:24.when the girls are asked which one they would like to take home. A

:14:25. > :14:34.tug`of`war over the blonde white doll. We still have a lot of work to

:14:35. > :14:37.do. I spoke with researchers who specialise in body image and race

:14:38. > :14:42.and they say it will take a lot more than Lupita Nyong'o been held up as

:14:43. > :14:47.beautiful. To change the weather we at ourselves and each other. You

:14:48. > :14:51.were saying to show pictures and talk about skin colour, do not avoid

:14:52. > :14:55.the issue. You cannot just buy them dolls, you

:14:56. > :15:02.have to talk about dark skin and how beautiful it is. Talk about it. A

:15:03. > :15:07.brilliant report. Thank you.. A Michigan man has become the fourth

:15:08. > :15:11.person ever to be fitted with a kind of bionic eye. It took doctors for

:15:12. > :15:16.the half hours to implant electrodes in his eye which receive impulses

:15:17. > :15:23.from a small video camera inside of that Pfizer. They are transmitted to

:15:24. > :15:33.the optic nerve. The man blinded by a degenerative disease can see

:15:34. > :15:36.light. `` visor. It has been described as a game changer by

:15:37. > :15:43.doctors. And tourists were terrified by this horse which bolted. The

:15:44. > :15:48.passengers and driver fined tonight. A bystander had minor

:15:49. > :15:53.bruises. It is a kind of dangerous deja vu, we had another incident

:15:54. > :15:58.last week. That was in Atlanta, Georgia. Six white knuckle blocks,

:15:59. > :16:01.some clever restaurant workers in this case, and a handful of carols

:16:02. > :16:11.managed to calm the horse. Finally, saved out of the clear blue sky.

:16:12. > :16:14.`` carrots. Imagine if you're a new hope of rescue was a joint

:16:15. > :16:21.handwritten message in the sand of SOS.

:16:22. > :16:27.They could have been missed so easily. Those three letters on a

:16:28. > :16:31.tiny sandbar of an island, he off of Australia's coast, near the

:16:32. > :16:34.Whitsunday Islands. A party of five had been out snorkelling and had the

:16:35. > :16:39.bad luck as they went ashore to collect shells. The boat drifted off

:16:40. > :16:46.without them. With everything they owned in it, including their phones.

:16:47. > :16:51.I looked back and could see that the boat was drifting. It was a middle

:16:52. > :16:54.of nowhere place, no food or water or shade, and when night came, there

:16:55. > :16:58.would be no warmth. The SOS seemed a long shot. But it wasn't. The

:16:59. > :17:03.underbelly camera they rescue helicopter that happened to spot the

:17:04. > :17:09.SOS and the island, they sent a man down. Soon, he was bringing up one

:17:10. > :17:14.by one who's almost castaways. We saw him initially on the rock. They

:17:15. > :17:19.confirmed it was the people we were looking for. It was almost nine

:17:20. > :17:23.hours out there. They were not injured. They were a bit

:17:24. > :17:30.dehydrated. It was long enough to be an adventure. Thank you for

:17:31. > :17:49.watching, visit the website for more. We will see you here tomorrow

:17:50. > :17:50.night. Until then, good night. Thursday, for most of
