:00:00. > :00:00.London was able to operate about half of its normal service.

:00:00. > :00:08.It is time now for the news across the US, ABC World News with Diane

:00:09. > :00:16.Sawyer. Tonight, a big message sent to

:00:17. > :00:25.sports and the nation. Effective immediately, I am planning Mr

:00:26. > :00:32.Sterling for life. Tornado outbreak, at twisters bearing down.

:00:33. > :00:40.And tonight, could these storms doubled back and hit the same towns

:00:41. > :00:44.again? And, surprise in your home. A child's hand stuck in a toy that was

:00:45. > :00:46.supposed to be recalled. Do you know what recalled items are sitting in

:00:47. > :01:01.your home? We begin with the seismic decision

:01:02. > :01:05.today, one which stands at the centre of race, respect, money and

:01:06. > :01:10.consequences in America. Donald Sterling, the billionaire owner of

:01:11. > :01:18.the Los Angeles Clippers, banned for life for making racist rep remarks.

:01:19. > :01:23.The NBA commissioner used everything he had, throwing the book at Donald

:01:24. > :01:31.Sterling, who will never again sit courtside at another Clippers game.

:01:32. > :01:35.Effective immediately, I am banning Mr Sterling for life from any

:01:36. > :01:41.association with the NBA or the Clippers organisation. Banned from

:01:42. > :01:46.the games, the practice facilities, any say in the decisions, and banned

:01:47. > :01:52.from contacting the players. All is this after he admitted making racist

:01:53. > :01:56.comments in a taped conversation with his alleged girlfriend. The NBA

:01:57. > :02:03.commissioner also announced that he will be fined $2.5 million, the

:02:04. > :02:13.league maximum. And, they are moving quickly to pressure team owners to

:02:14. > :02:17.sell the team. I would urge the Board of Governors to exercise its

:02:18. > :02:23.authority to force a sale of the team, and will do anything in my

:02:24. > :02:28.power to ensure that that happens. Since the story broke on the

:02:29. > :02:33.basketball world has united to denounce Mr Sterling. Not a word

:02:34. > :02:36.from him himself. Last seen on Sunday, leaving a steakhouse with

:02:37. > :02:43.his estranged wife. She defended him. Kevin Johnson, a former NBA

:02:44. > :02:50.great, said that this ugly episode should serve as a warning. I hope

:02:51. > :02:57.that every bigot in this country see `` sees what happened to Mr

:02:58. > :03:02.Sterling, and recognises that if he can fall, so can you. Just hours

:03:03. > :03:08.after this decision, the Clippers are returning here to play the

:03:09. > :03:11.Warriors. While this controversy has brought about a larger discussion

:03:12. > :03:19.about race and how we treat each other in this country, the Clippers

:03:20. > :03:26.need to concentrate on winning on the basketball court. Mike, you said

:03:27. > :03:31.this was going to unleash something big. How big is it? It is about as

:03:32. > :03:38.big as it can get. We are going to have zero tolerance policy going

:03:39. > :03:43.forward on this sort of language, this mean`spirited language. Even if

:03:44. > :03:48.it is in the privacy of one's home, or in a private conversation. We

:03:49. > :03:53.will not tolerate it, the league will not stand for it, and for now,

:03:54. > :03:57.almost everyone except the Donald Sterling camp seems to be an

:03:58. > :04:01.agreement. We will have pictures of some of these 29 owners. You really

:04:02. > :04:07.think that three quarters of them will vote to force him to sell? I

:04:08. > :04:12.think they will. There are couple of reasons why. Firstly, the players

:04:13. > :04:17.are almost unanimous in their support of Adam Silver, and I don't

:04:18. > :04:22.think this particular fight is one of the owners are for. That is not

:04:23. > :04:26.just the 75% who are African`American, you are looking at

:04:27. > :04:30.100% unanimity on not wanting to have Donald Sterling any more. We're

:04:31. > :04:34.not talking so much about legal challenge, as his business partner

:04:35. > :04:39.saying, we want you out. Do I think that he has the votes necessary? I

:04:40. > :04:45.think he had them when he stepped to the lectern and said he was banning

:04:46. > :04:50.him for life. Does this mean that racism in America or in sport is

:04:51. > :04:55.coming to an end? No, but slowly but surely, piece by piece, a million

:04:56. > :04:58.paper cuts, as he said, people get their message, that this kind of

:04:59. > :05:02.behaviour is not going to be tolerated, and essentially,

:05:03. > :05:07.eventually, it dies off. They think they are saying, we can be few out

:05:08. > :05:15.and make you a pariah, then people get the message.

:05:16. > :05:22.We move onto the epic new outbreak of tornadoes. 22 million Americans

:05:23. > :05:34.still on alert in the tornado zone, and the map shows where at least 128

:05:35. > :05:38.twisters were reported since Sunday. This was someone's office, that was

:05:39. > :05:43.surrounded by glass, but today it is out in the rain. People across this

:05:44. > :05:46.region, who are just beginning to recover from Monday's tornadoes,

:05:47. > :05:56.Corinda danger zone again. Danger tonight, in eastern North Carolina,

:05:57. > :06:05.these tornado was spotted. Across the south, they can't get a break.

:06:06. > :06:13.Late this afternoon, tornadoes were firing up over southern Mississippi

:06:14. > :06:16.and central Alabama. Valerie Thompson worries that more storms

:06:17. > :06:21.may wash what is left of her home away. I was right there watching

:06:22. > :06:32.TV, and Christmas, and all that, but it is gone. Early reports show that

:06:33. > :06:40.this deadly tornado was in EF two, with highest wins what up to 135

:06:41. > :06:50.mph. It destroyed more than 2100 homes.

:06:51. > :06:58.This man was lucky he was not electrocuted. At our ABC station,

:06:59. > :07:03.our reporter was live on the air, telling viewers to run for cover. He

:07:04. > :07:09.was demanding that his 35 co`workers do the same. Already, at least 33

:07:10. > :07:14.lives lost in this storm across five states. Today, one family told us he

:07:15. > :07:18.planned to take the weather warning is much more seriously from now on.

:07:19. > :07:26.Six of them were crowded into this tiny pantry with the family dog. All

:07:27. > :07:31.of you were in this pantry? Yes. Today, half of their home is here,

:07:32. > :07:36.the other half across the street. Heed the warning. When they say,

:07:37. > :07:42.take your safe place, take your safe place. Take your safe place, that is

:07:43. > :07:51.the message for tonight. Utility crews are trying to restore power,

:07:52. > :07:53.hoping the weather to operate. Tonight the storm seems to be

:07:54. > :07:58.spinning in place, threatening families already hit with the second

:07:59. > :08:04.round. Our correspondent shows us how much longer the threat will

:08:05. > :08:11.last. It will last another 36 hours. It feels like it has been like this

:08:12. > :08:13.for ever. Here I am just north of Birmingham, Alabama. It was the fire

:08:14. > :08:19.department. Last night the tornado tore through here. Now we are under

:08:20. > :08:23.tornado watch again. Let me show you all the areas seeing the risk again

:08:24. > :08:29.tonight. So many double up. Mississippi up to Alabama has an

:08:30. > :08:32.elevated risk. Anywhere in Orange, even North Carolina could see

:08:33. > :08:38.tornadoes tonight. The threat stays with us tomorrow. It is not to be

:08:39. > :08:41.ignored. Tomorrow, from North Florida through the mid`Atlantic is

:08:42. > :08:46.the risk area. But I wanted to tell you the next and start to the

:08:47. > :08:53.question why is this happening. Our atmosphere is all locked up. It is

:08:54. > :08:59.something called a cut off low. It gets stuck here and sits and spends

:09:00. > :09:06.and churns so that violent storms keep happening in the same exact

:09:07. > :09:13.place `` spins. That is the problem. So many people take their safe

:09:14. > :09:20.places, I wanted to mention, grab this. A helmet. You never know, in

:09:21. > :09:26.that state place, you could have debris flying or falling. Good

:09:27. > :09:34.advice. Something else from the tornado zone. Survivors raising the

:09:35. > :09:40.American flag above the wreckage. Families comforting each other,

:09:41. > :09:46.flags flowing behind them. In the midst of such struggle, so many

:09:47. > :09:50.symbols of the American spirit. Now to news of the gunman who put his

:09:51. > :09:57.co`workers in the crosshairs. A policeman says that a FedEx employee

:09:58. > :10:01.opened fire at a package sorting facility in Georgia. He was heavily

:10:02. > :10:08.armed, he was described as Rambo. Six were wounded and the gunman was

:10:09. > :10:14.found dead inside. Now an update on the missing Malaysian plane. A

:10:15. > :10:18.private company has found a clue that it has detected some suspicious

:10:19. > :10:21.metal readings in the ocean. But this was thousands of miles from the

:10:22. > :10:27.official search sites and the official team does not give these

:10:28. > :10:31.clues much credence tonight. And in Washington, the White House has

:10:32. > :10:37.taken aim at incidents of sexual attack on College campuses. A study

:10:38. > :10:42.shows that one in five College students in America is the victim of

:10:43. > :10:47.assault. Joe Biden said that colleges have a moral responsibility

:10:48. > :10:51.to protect students and to teach them to prevent such attacks.

:10:52. > :10:59.Doesn't matter if she said yes and changed her mind and said no! No

:11:00. > :11:02.means no! Obama administered new recommendations for schools to

:11:03. > :11:08.report assault and created a new website to support victims. We moved

:11:09. > :11:15.to the news tonight in the ongoing pursuit of Amanda Knox. She is the

:11:16. > :11:17.American accused in an Italian court of brutally murdering her roommate.

:11:18. > :11:26.She was convicted, freed, and convicted again. Today the Italian

:11:27. > :11:30.courts ruled there is reliable evidence placing both Amanda Knox

:11:31. > :11:37.and her then boyfriend at the scene of the murder of her British

:11:38. > :11:42.roommate Meredith Kircher. The court was convinced there were multiple

:11:43. > :11:47.killers but that it was Amanda Knox who wielded the knife that killed

:11:48. > :11:55.her. The evidence, a minute piece of DNA found on her bra clasp. As well

:11:56. > :12:01.is a crime scene, they were believed to be keen to cover up their

:12:02. > :12:06.involvement. It is believed to stem from a disagreement over money. Last

:12:07. > :12:10.year Amanda Knox spoke with Diane Sawyer about her relationship with

:12:11. > :12:17.Meredith Kircher. Did you go your separate ways? Did something happen?

:12:18. > :12:20.No. We spent a lot of time together, and I met her friends. We

:12:21. > :12:26.were you ever jealous of her? You lack no. Were you ever angry with

:12:27. > :12:33.her? No. Is evidence had been presented before, and the court was

:12:34. > :12:40.told how she could have cleaned her own DNA from the crime scene. In a

:12:41. > :12:44.statement, Amanda Knox says she is innocent from the accusations

:12:45. > :12:47.against her. She will focus on pursuing an appeal before the

:12:48. > :12:53.Italian Supreme Court. If the court upholds the conviction it could set

:12:54. > :13:00.up a fight over whether she should be extradited back to Italy. For

:13:01. > :13:07.now, she is technically a convicted murderer living freely in Seattle

:13:08. > :13:13.and preparing to graduate in June. Up next, you will see a child's hand

:13:14. > :13:18.stuck in a toy which has been recalled either manufacturer. Her

:13:19. > :13:22.parents did not know. Do you know what recalled items are sitting in

:13:23. > :14:43.your home? Take our test in two minutes.

:14:44. > :14:49.A lot of us don't know that there are millions of recalled the

:14:50. > :14:51.surrounding us. In a surprising test tonight, our correspondent works

:14:52. > :14:56.into an average house looking for recalled products and fines we are

:14:57. > :15:02.not as aware as we think. Five`year old Sophia is not happy, because

:15:03. > :15:07.these firefighters are trying to remove a recalled easy Bake oven

:15:08. > :15:15.which is stuck on her hands. I was so scared. Million of the toys,

:15:16. > :15:20.which can trap child's hand and possibly burn them, were recalled.

:15:21. > :15:25.She bought it at a barrage sale. I found out it was the recalled toy.

:15:26. > :15:31.It is hard to keep track. A survey shows that 10% of recalled products

:15:32. > :15:34.are ever returned or repaired. They often become garage sale items.

:15:35. > :15:43.Millions of homes could have a danger lurking. We went to visit.

:15:44. > :15:50.Davies is with the consumer product safety commission. Recalled for a

:15:51. > :16:01.finger amputation danger from a hinge. What is the serial number?

:16:02. > :16:08.This stroller has also been recalled. This recall was from a

:16:09. > :16:15.string which could cause a choking danger. With a snip it is gone.

:16:16. > :16:21.These mattresses are not properly sized, and create a gap. A light in

:16:22. > :16:27.the baby's room was also recalled. In all we found four items which

:16:28. > :16:32.needed to be fixed or removed. What you make of it all? It sounds like I

:16:33. > :16:38.should not be getting hand`me`downs. That's one way. Or do what our

:16:39. > :16:44.expert did. Check online, fill out warranty cards, and sign up for

:16:45. > :16:50.alerts. Keep something like this from happening in your home. And now

:16:51. > :16:55.tonight, a man robbed of almost 25 years of his life, and the community

:16:56. > :16:57.of strangers who decided to help pull him to his feet. As our

:16:58. > :17:06.correspondent showed us, after the ordeal, what it is to be America

:17:07. > :17:11.Strong. You are watching the moment Jonathan Fleming is exonerated after

:17:12. > :17:14.25 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. Stepping into the

:17:15. > :17:18.sunlight and expressing not one ounce of resentment. I feel

:17:19. > :17:27.wonderful. I am going to eat dinner with my mother mother and my family

:17:28. > :17:32.and get on with my life. These receipts prove that he was at Disney

:17:33. > :17:36.World with his children when the murder was committed in New York.

:17:37. > :17:43.What is it like to be outside on a beautiful day in Central Park? It's

:17:44. > :17:46.a good feeling. But there are challenges adjusting to brave new

:17:47. > :17:52.world. Even in cars, the GPS, which tells you exact the way to go, I'm

:17:53. > :17:57.not used to that. Repairing lost relationships, and then there is

:17:58. > :18:04.money. I had about $93 in my account. Enter a total stranger, a

:18:05. > :18:08.Wall Street rancour. Why did you feel you had to do something? After

:18:09. > :18:13.the hell he has been through for the last 24 years, he came out with a

:18:14. > :18:17.positive attitude, wanting to live the rest of his life and being

:18:18. > :18:21.positive. `` Wall Street bank. He went online and created this

:18:22. > :18:26.website. Within days, nearly $35,000 was donated white hundreds of people

:18:27. > :18:37.in 15 countries. He wanted to meet his benefactor, so we made it

:18:38. > :18:44.happen. I want to thank you, man. I'm just glad to be able to help.

:18:45. > :18:52.Thank you very much. One man finally free, and a group of strangers,

:18:53. > :18:56.helping him out. They are America Strong. And we are so glad you are

:18:57. > :19:09.watching tonight. We are always here on our website. I will see you

:19:10. > :19:18.tomorrow night. Good night. Good morning. Once again, we will be

:19:19. > :19:22.going into the morning rush hour with a mix of low cloud, mist and

:19:23. > :19:25.fog. The fog will be at its most dense in the eastern coast of

:19:26. > :19:28.Scotland and England as well as Northern Ireland. A grey start for

:19:29. > :19:29.many. Not a huge amount of sunshine,
