:00:00. > :00:00.that sunbed culture has to change. At two o'clock, more news from us.

:00:00. > :00:14.But now it is time for ABC News with fans. `` Diane Sawyer.

:00:15. > :00:20.Massive wildfires, and our reporter is with the firefighters.

:00:21. > :00:26.Can families really keep the flames from their homes?

:00:27. > :00:32.Bill Clinton takes on Hillary Clinton's the critics. The critics

:00:33. > :00:38.who raised questions about health. She is in better shape than I am.

:00:39. > :00:44.Are you driving on unsafe tyres tonight? Millions of dangerous tyres

:00:45. > :00:48.could be on the road. And the super accounts. Watch the

:00:49. > :00:52.little boy rescued from an angry dog by a flying furball who comes in to

:00:53. > :01:05.save the day. Good evening. As we come on the

:01:06. > :01:10.hour, 70 million people in two states have been given an urgent

:01:11. > :01:18.warning about the risk of fire. `` 17. Some are fighting the fire with

:01:19. > :01:29.garden hoses. For some, this is what they are up against. That is a

:01:30. > :01:35.wildfire outside San Diego. That is where we go now.

:01:36. > :01:41.Good evening. What a day it has been. The firefighters just put the

:01:42. > :01:47.fire out at this house. Take a look at this. Smirk is still burning.

:01:48. > :01:53.What the firefighters are up against, extremely hot temperatures

:01:54. > :02:02.and high gusts of wind. The Golden State is ablaze. In

:02:03. > :02:06.California, firefighters and the people whose homes are trying to

:02:07. > :02:13.save on the losing end of a raging battle. This is some of the most

:02:14. > :02:20.radical firefighting I have seen. The skies are apocalyptic. 15,000

:02:21. > :02:25.evacuation notices. The flames are so hot and moving so quickly, this

:02:26. > :02:34.is the challenge. The brush is going up in second. We should get out of

:02:35. > :02:39.here. Listen to the winds. A firefighter's worst enemy. The crews

:02:40. > :02:45.cannot keep up. This is what we are dealing with. And the fire is

:02:46. > :02:54.creating sites like this to a nadir of smoke. `` tornado. In a single

:02:55. > :03:00.day, three major southern California fire is burning. Fuelled by

:03:01. > :03:08.record`breaking heat. You can see the plumes of smoke. The largest

:03:09. > :03:16.marine training facility on the West Coast. Scatter rings of smaller

:03:17. > :03:21.fires. Crews rushed to put out sparks from a truck. In Long Beach,

:03:22. > :03:30.palm trees burning. Residents pumping water from pools. 1600 acres

:03:31. > :03:37.went up in flames yesterday. Owners returning, still on high alert. They

:03:38. > :03:43.continue to battle hotspot. What is the biggest challenge? The winds. It

:03:44. > :03:50.is a high`pressure system. It is not typical for this time of year. This

:03:51. > :03:57.is what we are seeing. A field completely burned. Take a look at

:03:58. > :04:08.this. This house completely destroyed. This was the garaged. ``

:04:09. > :04:16.barrage. That is what the fire dead. It is jumping from house to house,

:04:17. > :04:19.neighbourhood to neighbourhood. A lot of brave firefighters tonight,

:04:20. > :04:24.thank you. You can use overseas and Turkey,

:04:25. > :04:33.where grief and here are combined. At least 274 miners have died. We go

:04:34. > :04:39.inside a desperate search for any survivors beneath the earth.

:04:40. > :04:43.The anguished faces of the families and friends. Pressed up against a

:04:44. > :04:51.fence, yearning for a glimmer of hope. This man told us he has

:04:52. > :04:55.several friends are low. He says he still has not lost hope they will be

:04:56. > :05:02.found alive. Cameras below the surface show rescuers making their

:05:03. > :05:07.way in the search as we learn more about how the tragedy happened.

:05:08. > :05:13.Almost 800 men were underground. More than usual because of a shift

:05:14. > :05:19.change. An electrical failure caused an explosion that sparked the fire.

:05:20. > :05:27.Some were unable to escape in the elevator is. With more than 270

:05:28. > :05:35.dead, this is now the world's worst mining disaster in your the 40

:05:36. > :05:38.years. `` nearly. Protests erupted today against the company and the

:05:39. > :05:45.government. The White House is offering assistance to Turkey. The

:05:46. > :05:51.outlook is looking increasingly bleak for the dozens whose fates are

:05:52. > :05:58.still unknown. Now back at home, the kind of point

:05:59. > :06:04.counterpoint about Hillary Clinton and an insinuation by a republican

:06:05. > :06:13.about her health. Her husband fired back at Republican power player Carl

:06:14. > :06:18.rove. Hillary Clinton was all smiles

:06:19. > :06:23.today, totally ignoring her political opponents and leaving it

:06:24. > :06:25.to her husband to take on a Republican strategist who suggested

:06:26. > :06:35.Mrs Clinton may have a serious brain injury. If she does, I must be in a

:06:36. > :06:41.really tough shape. She has accused Mrs Clinton of hiding the extent of

:06:42. > :06:48.her health troubles. She had a serious health episode. This will be

:06:49. > :06:52.an issue in the 2016 race. This much is not in dispute. She was not seen

:06:53. > :06:56.in public for nearly a month as Secretary of State beginning in

:06:57. > :07:01.December 2012 when she suffered from a virus, a concussion caused by a

:07:02. > :07:07.four and a blood clot. At the time, the Clinton team downplayed the

:07:08. > :07:10.problem. They did not reveal she suffered from a concussion until

:07:11. > :07:18.days after it happened. When she returned to work, she wore special

:07:19. > :07:28.glasses. I still have some lingering effects. Hillary Clinton says she is

:07:29. > :07:32.100% recovered, 100% healthy and about to be out in public in a big

:07:33. > :07:42.way. She has a new book coming out next month. It will look a lot like

:07:43. > :07:45.a gruelling presidential campaign. Tonight we have word that the

:07:46. > :07:50.National Transportation Safety Board has launched a major investigation

:07:51. > :07:53.into Tyre safety. We have been tracking this for years. Tyres that

:07:54. > :07:58.were supposed to be taken off the roads that can be a kind of time

:07:59. > :08:04.bomb for the family car. What if your tyres are even older than you

:08:05. > :08:08.know. We joined stations across the country to bring this undercover

:08:09. > :08:11.investigation. Despite a series of recalls, there

:08:12. > :08:20.could be millions of onset tyres still on the road. `` unsafe. That

:08:21. > :08:23.is what a business executive discovered too late, paralysed for

:08:24. > :08:30.life after mechanics installed a recall the car. I heard a popping

:08:31. > :08:39.sound and the cards started vibrating. In another incident,

:08:40. > :08:43.tyres are being blamed for an incident that killed two church

:08:44. > :08:54.leaders. As these videos show, even skilled driver is cannot keep

:08:55. > :08:57.control. Now our investigation has found that a badly flawed government

:08:58. > :09:16.recall system has kept motorists and retailers in the dark. There is

:09:17. > :09:19.supposed to be a process in place so that they know, but in many cases

:09:20. > :09:22.they do not. Reporters in San Francisco were able to buy these

:09:23. > :09:27.tyres and a recall from last year. In Atlanta, they bought one of the

:09:28. > :09:33.infamous tires recalled 14 years ago after dozens of deaths. `` these

:09:34. > :09:37.tyres were recalled. This man says he did not know that it was

:09:38. > :09:40.recalled. But even the industry concedes that there is a problem. We

:09:41. > :09:44.do not want to see these tyres sold but they are. In addition to recall

:09:45. > :09:49.tyres, investigation also found tires for sale that were as much as

:09:50. > :09:57.10`15 years old. There is no legal age limit, but the big three auto

:09:58. > :10:03.makers recommend that they should be replaced after they are six years

:10:04. > :10:09.old. No matter how old they are, they have two crack a code that the

:10:10. > :10:12.prior industry users. Showing that with these four digits, it is the

:10:13. > :10:21.week and year, not the month and year. ``to. The tyre industry say

:10:22. > :10:25.that they believe it is easy to read, they say that you should not

:10:26. > :10:28.be worrying, because there is no evidence that they present a danger.

:10:29. > :10:32.But this investigation will look into it. We should note by next

:10:33. > :10:36.year. Let's head to the hallowed ground of

:10:37. > :10:40.memory and renewal right here in New York, the new World Trade Center

:10:41. > :10:44.piercing the New York skyline, and that the base, the new September the

:10:45. > :10:51.11th Memorial Museum where you walk into the disbelief and horror that

:10:52. > :10:55.time capsule that day that America will never forget. But, a preview

:10:56. > :11:01.tonight, as our correspondent takes us inside with him. Good evening,

:11:02. > :11:06.you are looking at the last column, it became such a symbol of the first

:11:07. > :11:10.responders who raced to the scene in the days and weeks that followed,

:11:11. > :11:15.they are sprayed on the column, representing those who were lost. As

:11:16. > :11:20.we walked into the museum, the time was there on the wall. It was still

:11:21. > :11:23.a beautiful morning, but then everything changed. This was good

:11:24. > :11:28.morning America after the first plane hit. There has been some sort

:11:29. > :11:34.of explosion at the World Trade Center. It is a major fire. As you

:11:35. > :11:39.begin to descend seven stories below ground, the first thing you hear is

:11:40. > :11:42.the voices. Everyday Americans remembering where they were, their

:11:43. > :11:51.own words lighting up the walls here. ``storeys. I was in a meeting.

:11:52. > :11:58.Minute by minute, it is tracked on a map, when the flight is turned as

:11:59. > :12:02.hijackers took control. As we walked through the museum, beside us are

:12:03. > :12:08.those of either stairs. Hundreds of people use this staircase as an

:12:09. > :12:16.escape route on the morning of the attacks. Running downstairs to

:12:17. > :12:31.safety was a lifeline. Around the corner, we find the fire truck that

:12:32. > :12:35.saved so many. The captain and ten of his men were lost. Here is the

:12:36. > :12:40.bike rack, the bicycles are still covered in dust. All of the planes

:12:41. > :12:45.are remembered here, these parts from flight 77 pulled from the

:12:46. > :12:53.Pentagon. This clock was frozen at 9:37am, it melted Rolodex and

:12:54. > :12:57.someone's phone. We found a watch, which belonged to one of the heroes

:12:58. > :13:03.that took back the flight. On his watch, the date, September the 11th.

:13:04. > :13:08.And, this woman who barely escaped the south tower. She took her shoes

:13:09. > :13:13.off, and she said that she put them in a box, under her bed. Now, she

:13:14. > :13:18.has given her shoes to the museum. This man lost his brother, and more

:13:19. > :13:23.than 650 employees at counter Fitzgerald, the only reason that he

:13:24. > :13:29.was not there was because it was his son 's first day at kindergarten. He

:13:30. > :13:33.is a little wet behind the ears, his backpackers on. His son is now

:13:34. > :13:36.graduating high school. Inside of here, there are other messages of

:13:37. > :13:46.hope. A NASA commander who saw it and listen to what he said.

:13:47. > :13:58.It is simply stunning, here is one of the original retaining walls

:13:59. > :14:02.around the original site, around both of the towers. The president

:14:03. > :14:05.will be here tomorrow to honour the work that has been done here and on

:14:06. > :14:12.the lives lost, and the resiliency of this country so many years later.

:14:13. > :14:19.We want you to join us tomorrow for the dedication of the museum. We

:14:20. > :14:27.should mention that David took photos inside of the museum, you can

:14:28. > :14:32.see them on the website. Up next, lightning strikes an SUV on the

:14:33. > :14:37.highway, there is a dramatic scene. And, the child saved from a

:14:38. > :14:42.neighbourhood dog when his cat becomes a tiger because of love.

:14:43. > :15:32.That is when we come back. Next to light, spring and summer are

:15:33. > :15:37.peak seasons for lightning strikes `` next tonight. Our correspondent

:15:38. > :15:44.reminds us where lightning can strike, even though you may have

:15:45. > :15:48.thought that you were safe. Watch this just released video, an SUV on

:15:49. > :15:53.a Minnesota highway, struck by lightning and in flames. A woman is

:15:54. > :16:00.trapped inside, the locks on her car melted. Help her out! Amazingly,

:16:01. > :16:05.Anna Smith escaped with just scratches. There was no way I could

:16:06. > :16:09.unlock anything. The windows would not work, nothing. Cars are designed

:16:10. > :16:12.to divert lightning around the shell of the car and down to the ground.

:16:13. > :16:15.While many think that rubber car tyres protect against lightning

:16:16. > :16:23.strikes, experts say that that is just a myth. Spring brings severe

:16:24. > :16:27.weather, that has led to a lot of lightning strikes this season. I saw

:16:28. > :16:32.the power of lightning firsthand covering storms in Alabama. How can

:16:33. > :16:36.you protect yourself? This is one of the worst places to be, it is a

:16:37. > :16:40.beautiful day now, but during a lightning storm, being the tallest

:16:41. > :16:43.object in an open field makes you more likely to be hit. You want to

:16:44. > :16:47.stay off the landline phone. Believe it or not, 5% of lightning strike

:16:48. > :16:53.victims were on the phone at the time, so use your mobile phone. If

:16:54. > :16:58.you are driving, pull over. Anna Smith knows that firsthand now. She

:16:59. > :17:04.is lucky to be alive. Minutes after her rescue, the car exploded. Our

:17:05. > :17:09.index tonight begins with the new revelation about the Royals, we knew

:17:10. > :17:12.that their boy smells were hacked by tabloid journalists but we did not

:17:13. > :17:22.know the vast extent until now. `` their voice mails. It has been

:17:23. > :17:27.relieved that Prince Harry had his hacked nine times, Prince William 35

:17:28. > :17:30.times, and Kate Middleton 155 times, beginning five years before the

:17:31. > :17:36.royal wedding, even on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. After the

:17:37. > :17:40.triumphant reopening of the Washington Memorial, and all of the

:17:41. > :17:44.fanfare, without warning, the elevator stopped working. 18 people

:17:45. > :17:49.were stuck inside 20 feet up. They made it out when the elevator inched

:17:50. > :17:52.back to the ground floor. 61 people were still stranded on the

:17:53. > :18:00.observation deck 500 feet up, they had to walk back down 897 steps. One

:18:01. > :18:07.of them was an 86`year`old grandmother. They were tweeting on

:18:08. > :18:11.the way down, and after 92 minutes, the elevator was fixed and the

:18:12. > :18:20.tourists went back up. Finally tonight, the eternal contest between

:18:21. > :18:30.dog and cat. A boy was ambushed by his neighbour 's dog, and then the

:18:31. > :18:35.fearless furball came flying in at lightning speed. This four`year`old

:18:36. > :18:38.was riding his bike and minding his own business yesterday, when a

:18:39. > :18:42.neighbour 's guard dog appeared out of nowhere. A home security camera

:18:43. > :18:48.was rolling as the dog grabbed the boy and the cat came to the rescue.

:18:49. > :18:55.That is right, ! The black flash on the bright side of the frame is his

:18:56. > :19:00.cat called Tara. Pounds on the dog chasing him away, saving Jeremy

:19:01. > :19:09.Italy looked at videotape, you did not know the cat was involved? ``

:19:10. > :19:17.she pounces on the dog, saving Jeremy. When he was a newborn, the

:19:18. > :19:22.would crawl into his crib. An unusual feature for a cat that tends

:19:23. > :19:29.to be rather aloof. To have her, with no regard for her own life, fly

:19:30. > :19:37.at the dog to protect him, I have never seen anything like it. This

:19:38. > :19:44.was round one, round one to the cat! He has some stitches, but will fine

:19:45. > :19:52.thanks to Tara. She is a hero! `` but will be fine. Thank you for

:19:53. > :20:05.watching. I will see you again here tomorrow night. Once again, it looks

:20:06. > :20:08.like Wednesday was a decent day for many places across the southern half

:20:09. > :20:12.of the British Isles, Thursday is shaping up to be a warm one for

:20:13. > :20:16.many, there will be some sunshine around as well. But, there has to be

:20:17. > :20:17.a part, it will not be the case for
