:00:00. > :00:00.gathering dust on a departmental shelf. Time now for a look at the

:00:00. > :00:11.news as seen across the United States a couple of hours ago in ABC

:00:12. > :00:15.World News with Dianne Sawyer. A huge earthquake off the coast of

:00:16. > :00:24.Alaska. Experts are watching for signs of a tsunami. In nationwide

:00:25. > :00:29.sweep by the FBI releases nearly 200 children from traffickers. Tonight,

:00:30. > :00:45.experts find stunning things buried inside your medical bills. How one

:00:46. > :00:53.family saved $30,000. Good evening. We have breaking news from Alaska. A

:00:54. > :00:57.powerful earthquake erupted off the coast of Alaska, triggering a

:00:58. > :01:05.tsunami warning. Evacuations are under way on the islands off the

:01:06. > :01:09.mainland. This is a significant earthquake and it carries with it a

:01:10. > :01:15.tsunami warning. It struck just before one o'clock this afternoon,

:01:16. > :01:20.local time, on and uninhabited island on the tip of that island

:01:21. > :01:27.chain that stretches out towards Russia. We spoke with the city mayor

:01:28. > :01:31.of a town just a few islands away from the epicentre. He said the

:01:32. > :01:35.shaking was incredibly strong and that the water was receding from the

:01:36. > :01:40.harbour. Because of the tsunami warning, people were looking for

:01:41. > :01:44.higher ground and we had to cut short our conversation so he could

:01:45. > :01:49.evacuate. We think of California as earthquake country but Alaska is

:01:50. > :01:59.more seismically active. Half of the earthquakes that occur in the US

:02:00. > :02:04.occur in Alaska. 1964, 9.2 on the Richter scale, one of the strongest

:02:05. > :02:10.earthquakes ever in North American history. They are monitoring the

:02:11. > :02:18.situation is far south as Oregon. Thank you. Now, a nationwide

:02:19. > :02:22.crackdown on a problem that could reach into every community in this

:02:23. > :02:28.country. The FBI moved in to rescue nearly 200 children in the US, most

:02:29. > :02:35.of them girls, many enticed from their homes by sex traffickers. We

:02:36. > :02:42.were with the investigators and captured the drama of that rescue.

:02:43. > :02:46.This red light district is just one target on a nationwide crackdown

:02:47. > :02:51.announced today, a place where prostitutes come to make their

:02:52. > :03:00.money, many of them just girls. How young are we talking? The youngest I

:03:01. > :03:05.have seen is 13. This undercover police officer is part of that sweep

:03:06. > :03:10.and I'm here for the sting as the FBI and police try to rescue as many

:03:11. > :03:14.goals as they can. Today, they announce that operation

:03:15. > :03:20.cross`country but 281 alleged pimps behind bars and rescued 168

:03:21. > :03:28.prostitutes in more than 100 cities from Tampa to Denver to Los Angeles.

:03:29. > :03:33.These are our children on our street corners, our truck stops, our

:03:34. > :03:39.motels, our casinos. Some of them are runaways, many forced into

:03:40. > :03:47.prostitution, Lloyd by boyfriends offering promises of love and

:03:48. > :03:50.affection. I was 17 years old. He said he would take me all and we

:03:51. > :03:56.would go to the shopping mall first. He wheedled me into it. I was

:03:57. > :04:01.scared. Police on the streets say they often see a pattern. They come

:04:02. > :04:04.from a broken background so if anyone shows them any common decency

:04:05. > :04:09.or love, tells them that they love them, they believe them because they

:04:10. > :04:15.have to believe them. As the night goes on, Oakland police bring in

:04:16. > :04:21.woman after woman. This is the problem. There are more prostitutes

:04:22. > :04:27.and temps on the streets than there are police officers who can arrest

:04:28. > :04:32.them all. The underage girls go to juvenile hall, where police say they

:04:33. > :04:42.will get help and most importantly forced time away from their pimps.

:04:43. > :04:47.We go after their exploiters to prevent future victims from

:04:48. > :04:51.occurring. One girl at a time. Many of these girls were not even

:04:52. > :04:56.reported missing. Police say if it weren't for these operations, they

:04:57. > :04:59.might not have been found. We know that girls rescued in the same

:05:00. > :05:02.operation a few years ago are now in college, studying nursing. Police

:05:03. > :05:04.say the key is to say the key is to get to the girls

:05:05. > :05:20.and get them off the streets. A state of emergency caused with

:05:21. > :05:26.severe floods. What than 13 million people watching the water and the

:05:27. > :05:31.sky. Tonight, thousands are still without

:05:32. > :05:38.power in Texas. Drenched with four inches of rain in just one hour.

:05:39. > :05:43.Neighbourhoods submerged. All of that water even knocking this house

:05:44. > :05:47.of its foundation. In the midwest, floodwaters are still rising after

:05:48. > :05:52.two weeks of heavy rain. In Minnesota, 35 counties are in a

:05:53. > :06:01.state of emergency. They saw funnel clouds today. A state trooper's bash

:06:02. > :06:05.camera caught this mudslide. As the waters creep higher, bridges are

:06:06. > :06:13.being closed before they go under water. You can see the water is so

:06:14. > :06:16.high they have had to shut it down. If you want to get from here to

:06:17. > :06:23.Wisconsin today, you are going to need a boat. This woman is watching

:06:24. > :06:30.the water slowly invade her home. It started coming in this morning. Her

:06:31. > :06:37.backyard is now a marina. You accept the fact that it is going to take

:06:38. > :06:43.over from time to time. The raging river is making daredevil kayakers

:06:44. > :06:48.happy. But the rescue teams nervous. Stay away from the water right now.

:06:49. > :06:52.It is too aggressive. Rivers are cresting in some small towns. In

:06:53. > :06:57.Saint Paul, these waters are expected to rise another three feet

:06:58. > :07:01.by Thursday. Today we learned that the global

:07:02. > :07:09.temperature last month was the warmest May on record in history.

:07:10. > :07:16.The average temperature just shy of 60 degrees. And we now go to the

:07:17. > :07:21.crisis in Iraq. The country is unravelling. Today the White House

:07:22. > :07:29.is taking new place as they try to avoid the civil war.

:07:30. > :07:35.John Kerry went to Baghdad today with a blunt warning for leaders,

:07:36. > :07:39.telling them if they do not get their acts together and form a

:07:40. > :07:44.united front right now with minority groups, the country could fall

:07:45. > :07:49.apart. US officials believe the biggest problem right now is a

:07:50. > :07:54.political, not military. The government is so unpopular with the

:07:55. > :07:58.country's minorities that they are unwilling to join the fight against

:07:59. > :08:03.the militants. The military situation is incredibly grim. One

:08:04. > :08:08.out of every three divisions is deemed unable to fight. The air

:08:09. > :08:12.force has only two aeroplanes capable of firing missiles. If that

:08:13. > :08:21.is not bad enough, they are out of vessels. `` missiles.

:08:22. > :08:29.Now the news back in this country tonight. A woman who told the Mormon

:08:30. > :08:34.Church to give women a bigger role. She was excommunicated. She argued

:08:35. > :08:40.women priests should be included. She was tried and sentenced with

:08:41. > :08:44.apostasy. After being tried in absentia by an all`male panel, this

:08:45. > :08:49.afternoon eight got the news she was dreading.

:08:50. > :08:55.A lifelong excommunication. Punished for forming a group ordained women,

:08:56. > :09:03.which seeks to allow women into the priesthood. The officials said:

:09:04. > :09:10.thank you for being here today. Since forming the group, she has led

:09:11. > :09:21.several protests, saying she found the group so that young girls would

:09:22. > :09:26.not doubt they were. She can be readmitted to the group if she meets

:09:27. > :09:31.several conditions after a year. She tells ABC News tonight that she is

:09:32. > :09:37.devastated by the decision and a spokesperson says the group will

:09:38. > :09:43.continue. Now, sometimes the heavens seem to

:09:44. > :09:46.be watching over a child at risk. An eight`month`old baby abducted by a

:09:47. > :09:52.car thief and abandoned by the side of the road. The girl had

:09:53. > :10:01.disappeared without a trace until a jogger happens to run by.

:10:02. > :10:05.It is a heartbreaking picture out of Houston. A car thief took off with

:10:06. > :10:12.girl all by herself in the middle of girl all by herself in the middle of

:10:13. > :10:17.the night in this empty field. Police had helicopters in the air,

:10:18. > :10:25.searching the streets, setting out and amber alert. That is when the

:10:26. > :10:28.mother ran inside with the baby in the back. Police say this man stole

:10:29. > :10:34.the car and abandoned the child ten minutes away.

:10:35. > :10:40.Genesis was still strapped in her seat in the middle of the bush is

:10:41. > :10:45.for nearly seven hours when this woman decided to go jogging for the

:10:46. > :10:52.first time in her life. I saw the baby moving in the car seat and

:10:53. > :10:54.crying. The police used their uniforms as blankets. She was

:10:55. > :11:06.uninjured and brought home safe and sound. Babies like to be swaddled.

:11:07. > :11:07.Up next, real money. Outrageous medical bills and the stunning

:11:08. > :12:00.things buried inside. Next tonight, we are back on the

:12:01. > :12:03.Trail of outrageous medical bills. Medical bills are the number one

:12:04. > :12:09.cause of personal bankruptcy in this country. We show you what happened

:12:10. > :12:17.to one family putting thousands of dollars back in their pocket and how

:12:18. > :12:23.you can do it too. His parents from San Antonio are

:12:24. > :12:32.still sifting through a mountain of medical bills for his delivery. We

:12:33. > :12:38.owe $150,000. `` $50,000. We brought in our healthcare consumer advocate

:12:39. > :12:43.to try and cut down that bill. Step one, ask for an itemised bill.

:12:44. > :12:52.Contest any service you do not remember getting. Get a comparison

:12:53. > :13:00.shop, even after the fact. Call down the hospital and is the guy down the

:13:01. > :13:04.street is charging less. They found out they were being charged four

:13:05. > :13:08.times the national average for a C section delivery and were able to

:13:09. > :13:12.negotiate a whopping $12,000 off their bills. To get extra savings

:13:13. > :13:18.you might have missed, consider hiring a professional negotiator.

:13:19. > :13:24.They keep 30% of whatever savings they get you. You keep the rest. We

:13:25. > :13:30.are seeing some kind of charging 85% of your bill. Almost all of them.

:13:31. > :13:37.They are using advanced computer programmes to find out billing

:13:38. > :13:41.errors. They said he was a sick at delivery and needed special

:13:42. > :13:49.attention. That was not the case. That is $17,000. They will even help

:13:50. > :14:00.your family find special discount programmes. I have saved $18,000

:14:01. > :14:08.today. $18,000 so far. That is $30,000 in total. It stunned us all.

:14:09. > :14:17.That is good news. What does this mean for your lives? It means we can

:14:18. > :14:25.move on. Unbelievable. They fought back from

:14:26. > :14:29.more than two years. Never give up. Even if you do not hire a help,

:14:30. > :14:36.there are things you can do on your own. We have put

:14:37. > :14:43.website. This is what you can do on your own.

:14:44. > :14:47.Our instant index tonight starts with a piece of advice from someone

:14:48. > :14:51.who knows a couple of things about sharks. A group of fishermen came

:14:52. > :15:03.face to face with a 16 foot great white. Watched it snatched the bait

:15:04. > :15:07.bag. It convinced them to leave. There is a certain number of great

:15:08. > :15:14.whites along the east coast. A lot of people talking about a new role

:15:15. > :15:21.for the family pet. Crawling coach. An extraordinary idea the dog had.

:15:22. > :15:26.He is a loving companion to the baby, who was not making a lot of

:15:27. > :15:31.tracks on her hands and knees until he kept slipping in front of her to

:15:32. > :15:36.encourage her moving forward. We are told after a lot of tutoring by the

:15:37. > :15:46.dog, she is now off and crawling. Finally tonight, the picture making

:15:47. > :15:50.history. `` picture. The first major league pitcher to do something that

:15:51. > :16:00.could light a revolution. It is something that could offer

:16:01. > :16:06.protection from a street back. It is safe to 95 mph. Does it look odd?

:16:07. > :16:10.Are they said the same thing when that in helmets became mandatorily

:16:11. > :16:17.and the little ear recovering. Remember football, went from this to

:16:18. > :16:27.this to this, because people kept getting heart. 2 million kids play

:16:28. > :16:32.baseball. I hope they can use them. He may not go down in history as one

:16:33. > :16:37.of baseball's greatest left`handers, but if the helmet catches on, he

:16:38. > :16:46.will always have that footnote of having gotten their first.

:16:47. > :16:56.We will always be here, Nightline later.

:16:57. > :17:04.We saw some thunderstorms to end the day in the south of the UK

:17:05. > :17:06.yesterday. But for many of us it is a decent sort of day. There is some

:17:07. > :17:09.warmth and warmth and sunshine to be found. The

:17:10. > :17:17.best is to be found in the south of the UK. Starting the day quite warm

:17:18. > :17:18.here. In the far north, much fresher conditions. It will be filtering its

:17:19. > :17:19.way south during the
