:00:14. > :00:17.storms. 80 million Americans in the path. The confirmed tornado, a

:00:18. > :00:24.deadly lightning. And the close call. The father and daughter

:00:25. > :00:30.rescued from the floods. Also developing, the American soldier

:00:31. > :00:35.held captive by the Taliban. You remember him squinting in the

:00:36. > :00:42.sunlight. Tonight, where is he now. For some, the outrage.

:00:43. > :00:48.The horrific crash. The first pictures of the survivor. Comedian

:00:49. > :00:54.Tracy Morgan. Now the major lawsuit. What he says about Walmart. And we

:00:55. > :00:58.are in the water tonight. The exploding number of great white

:00:59. > :00:59.sharks. Why so many this summer and where they are most concerned.

:01:00. > :01:18.Tonight. Gripping. It's great to have you

:01:19. > :01:21.with us. `` good evening. Millions of Americans are driving home from

:01:22. > :01:27.work, many bracing for severe weather. The radar says it all.

:01:28. > :01:29.Nearly 20 states under watches and warnings for flash floods,

:01:30. > :01:42.thunderstorms and more lightning, some of it deadly. This image, a

:01:43. > :01:46.bolt in Washington, DC. Tonight, they have confirmed tornado in

:01:47. > :01:50.upstate New York went 100 mph. Tornado concerns agaves even in from

:01:51. > :01:56.Baltimore, through to Philadelphia and up to New York. A meteorologist

:01:57. > :02:05.has been tracking this. There are around six severe thunderstorm

:02:06. > :02:09.watchers. `` watches. I'm truly storms breaking out across the

:02:10. > :02:17.nation tonight. " With lightning in Oregon. `` a close call. Amanda

:02:18. > :02:22.rushed to get her horses to safety when lightning knocked her father to

:02:23. > :02:33.the ground. And a fresh rating on the tornado in New York. An EF1 con

:02:34. > :02:38.firmed. Winds of more than 100 mph. Its been a vicious 24 hours. Today,

:02:39. > :02:42.heavy rain shutting down southbound lanes of an Atlantic Highway, with

:02:43. > :02:48.chain reaction crashes, injuring at least nine people. In central

:02:49. > :02:55.Illinois, a foot and a half of rain submerging neighbours. And in the

:02:56. > :02:58.south`west, monsoon storms knocking down trees, flipping tractor

:02:59. > :03:04.trailers and forcing water rescues. Almost one inch falling in just

:03:05. > :03:10.eight minutes. Behind that severe weather, an enthusiastic jetstream

:03:11. > :03:13.and a major push the cold air. October chill bringing out the

:03:14. > :03:16.autumn jackets from Minnesota to Wisconsin. Temperatures dropping

:03:17. > :03:20.into the 40s for some by tomorrow morning. That cold front is one of

:03:21. > :03:25.the factors driving more severe storms. As a cold front passes

:03:26. > :03:33.without them is called a, the warm air rises up, creating storms. ``

:03:34. > :03:37.cold air. The greater the distance over the cabbages, the more fuel.

:03:38. > :03:44.Look at Minneapolis. 64. `` temperatures. St Louis was almost

:03:45. > :03:49.90. What are we facing tonight? That

:03:50. > :03:54.severe storm area, especially along the east coast, you mentioned

:03:55. > :03:57.earlier there have already been tornado rescues north`east of

:03:58. > :04:02.Baltimore. You can see the pockets of orange. Here, damaging winds from

:04:03. > :04:06.New York, Connecticut, back through Arkansas. Then it doesn't move much

:04:07. > :04:13.tomorrow. Big cities like Philadelphia, New York City and

:04:14. > :04:19.Washington, DC need to be on alert, especially tomorrow afternoon. How

:04:20. > :04:26.deep are these cold cabbages? If you are sitting in Tennessee, it won't

:04:27. > :04:31.get here. `` temperatures. These are tomorrow's high cabbages. The cold

:04:32. > :04:38.front pushing all the way, making Dallas go to 86 by Thursday. ``

:04:39. > :04:42.temperatures. 86 will feel good for them in Dallas. Thank you. One other

:04:43. > :04:48.with a headline. These pictures coming in from the west. Wildfires

:04:49. > :04:53.in Oregon. Homes were destroyed, more than 100 people evacuated.

:04:54. > :04:58.Firefighters scrambling. Lightning strikes may have sparked the fires.

:04:59. > :05:04.There is concern for the animals. There are wildfires also in Northern

:05:05. > :05:08.California. All of this weather comes as millions take some

:05:09. > :05:14.vacations. For drivers this evening, welcome news. Gas prices are finally

:05:15. > :05:21.going down. The prices have been climbing for 12 days straight. We

:05:22. > :05:27.look at what's behind the drop. Good evening. We can consider this a

:05:28. > :05:33.vacation from that pain at the pump. These numbers came out this evening.

:05:34. > :05:36.The national average is down to: That's 4 cents cheaper than it was

:05:37. > :05:41.one week ago. Why are these prices coming down?

:05:42. > :05:46.The cost the price of wheel is dropping. Libya is producing more.

:05:47. > :05:54.Iraq was expected to impact that. `` price of oil. This is good news for

:05:55. > :05:57.drivers. Drivers in 13 states are paying less than everybody. You can

:05:58. > :06:02.see it. Less than $3 50 per gallon. Will these prices stick? Analysts

:06:03. > :06:06.say there is always the possibility that something will happen in the

:06:07. > :06:10.Middle East to impact prices. The potential for a hurricane in the

:06:11. > :06:13.summer. But analysts say these prices will be dropping by as much

:06:14. > :06:17.as 10 cents over the next couple of weeks.

:06:18. > :06:19.That is welcome news. Thank you. Around the world and to the Middle

:06:20. > :06:24.East, where international pressure is mounting for Israel and Hamas to

:06:25. > :06:28.reach a ceasefire. Each of is offering to broker the deal. We

:06:29. > :06:37.learnt the drone being used by Hamas has been shot out of the sky.

:06:38. > :06:40.Are we any closer to a ceasefire? Things are happening fast tonight

:06:41. > :06:46.but there are some indications that Hamas is considering taking part in

:06:47. > :06:52.ceasefire talks, talks that could not come soon enough.

:06:53. > :07:00.Today, after more than 1000 rockets launched from Gaza, an ominous turn.

:07:01. > :07:04.Hamas claiming that a flock of drones, like this one in a Hamas

:07:05. > :07:10.video, would be deployed deep into Israel. The first launched today.

:07:11. > :07:15.Then shut down by Israel using a Patriot missile. The latest in an

:07:16. > :07:22.aerosol. Israel says Hamas has stockpiled 10,000 weapons. `` in an

:07:23. > :07:28.air assault. Some can reach Israel's megacities. The two sides,

:07:29. > :07:31.Israel and Hamas, the militant group that now patrols the Palestinian

:07:32. > :07:38.territory of Gaza, locked in this deadly fight. Any shred of hope that

:07:39. > :07:43.a broader peace, something the US has pushed so hard for, lapsing.

:07:44. > :07:47.Instead, civilians in Gaza, where the death toll is rising, worry

:07:48. > :07:52.Israel will move ahead with the massive ground assault. All

:07:53. > :07:59.across`the`board area with Gaza, you can see is really tanks building up.

:08:00. > :08:04.30,000 is really observers have already been called up. This remains

:08:05. > :08:10.the question tonight. Even though there are those who pose as his

:08:11. > :08:12.tired `` ceasefire talks, the exchange of fire is as intense as

:08:13. > :08:23.ever. You can find reporting throughout

:08:24. > :08:27.the night on the website. Meantime, back here at home, to a developing

:08:28. > :08:33.headline involving an American sergeant rescued from the Taliban.

:08:34. > :08:37.Bowe Bergdahl was released six weeks ago. That dramatic handover was

:08:38. > :08:42.recorded on tape, he was blinking in the sun, one of his captors lent

:08:43. > :08:46.in, and the American team padding him down before he boarded the

:08:47. > :08:49.helicopter. After 45 days of treatment, we learned of a new post,

:08:50. > :08:58.they are putting him back on regular duty, and some are outraged.

:08:59. > :09:02.Today, a new chapter for Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl. Just a little over

:09:03. > :09:06.six weeks since the dramatic prisoner swap in the Afghan desert.

:09:07. > :09:10.It ended his five years in captivity at the hands of the Taliban. This

:09:11. > :09:16.morning, the army announced that he has been return to regular duty and

:09:17. > :09:20.given a desk job in Houston. After completing what military

:09:21. > :09:25.psychologist said would be his reintegration process. In captivity,

:09:26. > :09:29.fundamental decisions are taken away. Then we can increase his

:09:30. > :09:33.choices. During his long captivity, his parents were tireless in their

:09:34. > :09:39.efforts to gain his freedom. I pray this video may be shown to our only

:09:40. > :09:41.son. Army officials today said that Bowe Bergdahl did not meet with his

:09:42. > :09:47.parents during the transition period. My name is Bowe Bergdahl.

:09:48. > :09:50.His return to regular duty also means that the army can begin the

:09:51. > :09:54.most sensitive part of this investigation, questioning him about

:09:55. > :09:59.how he became a Taliban prisoner in the first place. Since his release,

:10:00. > :10:02.the Taliban posted this propaganda photo online. It showed a smiling

:10:03. > :10:06.Bowe Bergdahl with the Taliban leader who has since been killed.

:10:07. > :10:11.The Taliban did not release any pictures of the metal cage in which

:10:12. > :10:24.Bowe Bergdahl said he was held after trying to escape. The Pentagon today

:10:25. > :10:27.said that he did not engage illegal conduct. He is due to complete this

:10:28. > :10:31.post in a month. You spoke about his parents, what more do we know about

:10:32. > :10:36.the communication or lack of it between his parents? After five

:10:37. > :10:41.years, he did not ours to be put in contact with his parents at any

:10:42. > :10:46.point during this period. `` ask. To the waters of Italy, a high`stakes

:10:47. > :10:49.mission under way to salvage the Costa Concordia, the cruise liner

:10:50. > :10:52.that run aground two years ago. We showed you the images here on World

:10:53. > :10:57.News taking you through the wreckage, and tonight the boat has

:10:58. > :11:03.been righted. The giant ship on the move and I were correspondent is

:11:04. > :11:12.reporting now. Rush hour. This is a huge operation, nothing like it has

:11:13. > :11:16.ever been attempted. `` our. Today, after two and a half years, nearly

:11:17. > :11:21.$1 billion, the giant wreck of the Costa Concordia, twice the size of

:11:22. > :11:25.the Titanic, was lifted off the seabed, refloated for a final

:11:26. > :11:28.journey to the scrapyard. To raise the stricken ship, air was pumped

:11:29. > :11:34.into 30 giant metal containers attached to the sides of the vessel,

:11:35. > :11:39.raising it by only six feet, a tense operation with toxic fuel and waste

:11:40. > :11:43.possibly being spilt if she broke apart. 32 people died that night she

:11:44. > :11:52.ran aground off the coast of Italy `` spilt. Decay is setting in. The

:11:53. > :11:56.Costa Concordia will now be slowly towed to the Italian port of Genova,

:11:57. > :12:04.and there it will be scrapped. All that will be left is the memory of

:12:05. > :12:08.the tragedy. A triumph here at home to report

:12:09. > :12:13.tonight, this family photo was posted by our friends in Boston, and

:12:14. > :12:17.is trending online. A Boston Marathon bombing survivor lost both

:12:18. > :12:22.legs in the attack, and today at his fiancee are introducing us to their

:12:23. > :12:26.newborn daughter. We love seeing that. More ahead on World News this

:12:27. > :12:31.Monday night, the deadly crash involving the Walmart truck, some of

:12:32. > :12:33.the first pictures to night of comedian Tracy Morgan since

:12:34. > :12:39.surviving up riding accident. And, the major lawsuit that he is now

:12:40. > :12:47.saying about Walmart. And, tracking the number of great whites,

:12:48. > :12:59.scientists have discovered more about tracking them, are they coming

:13:00. > :13:31.to a beach near you? `` since surviving that accident.

:13:32. > :13:37.Next to night here, to some of the first pictures of Tracy Morgan since

:13:38. > :13:45.the deadly truck accident that left him critically injured. Out of

:13:46. > :13:51.hospital after a month, now he is selling Walmart for what happened in

:13:52. > :13:56.New Jersey. How are you feeling? Though visibly weak while leaving

:13:57. > :14:02.his New Jersey home today, Tracy Morgan spirits seem strong, flashing

:14:03. > :14:06.a peace sign in some of the first images since being injured in a car

:14:07. > :14:12.accident, even responding to photographers well`wishers. You look

:14:13. > :14:14.great. Thank you. The 45`year`old comedian continues recovering after

:14:15. > :14:21.spending five weeks in the hospital with a broken leg, nose, and several

:14:22. > :14:25.ribs. He was injured when a Walmart truck driver allegedly fell asleep

:14:26. > :14:28.behind the wheel, crashing into the van that the actor was riding in.

:14:29. > :14:41.Now, Morgan is selling, claiming the following. `` suing. Experts say

:14:42. > :14:46.that drivers falling asleep is one reason why large truck crashes are

:14:47. > :14:50.so common on America's highways. In fact, recent numbers show an average

:14:51. > :14:55.of 200 people are injured and 11 killed every day a large truck

:14:56. > :15:01.crashes. These individuals are overworked, and if they take their

:15:02. > :15:06.eye off the word `` road for a nanosecond, they could have a

:15:07. > :15:14.horrific crash. In response to the lawsuit, Wall Street has said the

:15:15. > :15:20.following `` Walmart. Tonight, the investigation is moving forward. As

:15:21. > :15:24.is Tracy Morgan 's recovery. This evening, officials are studying a

:15:25. > :15:28.new tape from the terror group accused of kidnapping 200

:15:29. > :15:32.schoolgirls in Nigeria. Members of the group taking and making fun of

:15:33. > :15:36.the campaign went viral around the globe. You will remember even the

:15:37. > :15:39.first lady helped the cause, and tonight, they define new message and

:15:40. > :15:51.the new champion joining the cause to bring home the girls. Malala. We

:15:52. > :15:54.are in Nigeria now. They define new video message from Boko Haram,

:15:55. > :16:03.mocking the international campaign to bring back the girls. More than

:16:04. > :16:06.200 girls tonight are still in captivity. We travel to Nigeria to

:16:07. > :16:13.meet with some of the girls who escaped , the drama still written on

:16:14. > :16:18.their faces. This 18`year`old described how she got away by

:16:19. > :16:22.jumping off a fast moving truck, badly injuring her leg. Can you tell

:16:23. > :16:29.me what it was like after you escaped? I hid in the bushes of an

:16:30. > :16:32.abandoned village, she said. This 15`year`old also jumped from a

:16:33. > :16:37.truck, and slowly made her way back to the village. She did not eat for

:16:38. > :16:40.a week. The girls have a new champion, another teenager, Malala,

:16:41. > :16:49.who was shot just because she wanted an education.

:16:50. > :16:55.She and her father wept as they sat down with the parents of the missing

:16:56. > :17:08.girls. You will continue to speak out loud for them?

:17:09. > :17:19.What do you want people back in the United States to know? What can we

:17:20. > :17:23.do to help? The girls who escaped still have not return to school, and

:17:24. > :17:26.they told me they do not want to go back to school until all of their

:17:27. > :17:35.friends are back home safe and sound. Those girls have been missing

:17:36. > :17:38.now offer 91 days. Back here, to the economy tonight, a

:17:39. > :17:41.major settlement in the investigation into the collapse of

:17:42. > :17:45.the housing market, we have learned Citigroup will pay $7 billion for

:17:46. > :17:51.the role in offering risky mortgages to help fuel the recession. 2.5

:17:52. > :17:54.billion will be used to help struggling families with their

:17:55. > :18:00.mortgages. The instant index tonight, the white knuckle moment

:18:01. > :18:04.for 313 people on a flight to India. Three minutes after leaving Newark

:18:05. > :18:08.Airport, an engine overheated and set off alarms in the cockpit. The

:18:09. > :18:11.pilot turned the plane around after shutting down the engine. A woman

:18:12. > :18:15.snapped this picture from the ground, the plane was flying very

:18:16. > :18:21.low. Nobody was injured as it landed. George W Bush is

:18:22. > :18:25.recuperating tonight after a partial knee replacement on Saturday. On his

:18:26. > :18:31.left knee. An outpatient procedure. Seven weeks ago he had the same

:18:32. > :18:34.procedure on his right knee. 719,000 Americans have knee replacement

:18:35. > :18:37.surgery every year, and last time the president said he was climbing

:18:38. > :18:40.the stairs shortly after the procedure. He says he is looking

:18:41. > :18:44.forward to getting back on his mountain bike. We wish him well.

:18:45. > :18:51.Finally, many are asking whether this is the summer of the shark, the

:18:52. > :18:55.great white at least. We have been tracking them up and down the coast.

:18:56. > :18:59.Scientists are following them, and looking at how far they have gone

:19:00. > :19:04.already. It seems like a shark summer. Last

:19:05. > :19:10.week, this Californian swimmer was shocked by a great white. I was

:19:11. > :19:16.staring at it. The attacks are a coincidence. The number of great

:19:17. > :19:19.whites are up 42% since 1997. More than 2000 of the truck sized fish

:19:20. > :19:23.are roaming the east coast alone. The good news is we know were a lot

:19:24. > :19:29.of them are thanks to GPS. Scientists and fishermen are tagging

:19:30. > :19:40.six of these per weekend. Over the last year, millions online tracking

:19:41. > :19:44.a 2300 lb Shah called Catherine. `` shark. They are coming back due to

:19:45. > :19:49.an increase in the number of seals, their favourite food. Not humans.

:19:50. > :19:56.Off the Bahamas, they learned that some sharks crave affection, even

:19:57. > :20:03.the hug of a reporter. Catherine has made a U`turn and is heading to

:20:04. > :20:08.Florida. Who knows, she could be heading to a beach near you this

:20:09. > :20:13.summer! We hope to see you here tomorrow

:20:14. > :20:23.night, from all of us here, have a good evening.

:20:24. > :20:29.We are going to get some heat this week across the country, but it

:20:30. > :20:33.could trigger some thundery downpours. To start with, decent

:20:34. > :20:37.sunny breaks around, but pleasant enough. The heat will build, and the

:20:38. > :20:40.humidity, sparking dramatic thunderstorms at the end of the

:20:41. > :20:45.week, good news for the gardens, but not great news if you are planning

:20:46. > :20:46.to be outside for any length of time. We currently
