:00:00. > :00:10.report on all of this tomorrow. Time now for ABC World News with Dianne

:00:11. > :00:15.Sawyer. Welcome to World News. Tonight: surviving the crash, as

:00:16. > :00:18.another passenger plane goes down, this one during a dangerous storm.

:00:19. > :00:24.Tonight you will hear amazing stories from people who escaped the

:00:25. > :00:28.wreckage. A sombre procession as some victims of Malaysia flight MH17

:00:29. > :00:34.return home. And also to note in World News, finding your dream

:00:35. > :00:39.house. Never shy away from the house that looks terrible. The secret to

:00:40. > :00:48.finding a hidden treasure for your family in the neighbourhood you

:00:49. > :00:52.thought you couldn't afford. Good evening to you on this Wednesday

:00:53. > :00:55.night. We begin with the developing story this week of jarring news. Yet

:00:56. > :01:01.another passenger plane has gone down, this time in Taiwan. And this

:01:02. > :01:05.time Stormy weather may have played a role. Even as we mourn the

:01:06. > :01:09.passengers on the plane which was shot down, tonight we hear from

:01:10. > :01:14.survivors from this plane in Taiwan, survivors who somehow managed to

:01:15. > :01:21.walk away a live. Our correspondent has the very latest on their

:01:22. > :01:24.stories. The remains of this passenger plane hosed down, a

:01:25. > :01:33.mangled mess in a week that has seen some grim aviation scenes. Somehow

:01:34. > :01:36.some people survive this crash, one girl climbing out of the wreckage,

:01:37. > :01:43.borrowing a cellphone, and calling her mother, saying ma'am, my plane

:01:44. > :01:51.crashed. Relatives learning the news at the airport. The aircraft is a

:01:52. > :01:56.twin turboprop, which can carry up to 74 passengers. It was flown by

:01:57. > :02:00.Taiwan's's TransAsia Airways. Why did it go down? Falling rain you saw

:02:01. > :02:04.in these pictures was much heavier and may have contributed to the

:02:05. > :02:09.crash into some buildings. This typhoon had just passed over the

:02:10. > :02:12.islands. In fact the flight's departure had been delayed for an

:02:13. > :02:17.hour and 45 minutes because of a storm, finally taking off a little

:02:18. > :02:23.before six in the evening. Just a little more than an hour later,

:02:24. > :02:26.between prop plane attempted to land at Penghu Islands. The first landing

:02:27. > :02:32.was aborted by the pilot. The second time around, the plane went down off

:02:33. > :02:37.airport grounds. Under lights, recovery crews worked, and the black

:02:38. > :02:40.box has already been found. It has been a tough week, but generally

:02:41. > :02:46.deaths in aviation accidents are down. And the survival for some.

:02:47. > :02:51.Generally it is those riding in the back of the plane who make it out

:02:52. > :02:53.alive. At the end of the day we have to look at the big picture, which is

:02:54. > :02:58.that flying remains safer than getting into a car and driving to

:02:59. > :03:01.the grocery store. The good news is that investigators have the black

:03:02. > :03:04.box and they will know very soon whether what happened in the last

:03:05. > :03:11.couple of seconds contributed to the crash. And of course, it will not be

:03:12. > :03:14.a short investigation. We take you to the Netherlands. The nation in

:03:15. > :03:18.mourning tonight because of the passengers on the jet which was

:03:19. > :03:21.blown out of the sky over Ukraine. The procession of cough and

:03:22. > :03:28.stretched for miles as the first wave of victims came home ``

:03:29. > :03:35.offers. Flags at half`mast `` coffins. Our correspondent is there

:03:36. > :03:42.with the suffering and the search for answers tonight. Across the soft

:03:43. > :03:47.blue skies today, bells rang out, signalling the homecoming was under

:03:48. > :03:57.way. From town Square, to train station, to the airport, time stood

:03:58. > :04:08.still. On`board the two military planes, 40 would in cough and is,

:04:09. > :04:15.the first of the plane's Thames `` coffins. In front of the relatives,

:04:16. > :04:23.hidden away behind screens, and Dutch royalty. Then the procession,

:04:24. > :04:30.an armada of hearses. And thousands of mourners paying tribute, lining

:04:31. > :04:36.the streets. It is a very black day for everybody, especially for people

:04:37. > :04:40.from this part of the country. There is sadness and a demand for justice.

:04:41. > :04:46.The body delayed coming five days after the crash. Today for the

:04:47. > :04:50.families of passengers from 12 countries across the globe, it was

:04:51. > :04:54.about profound loss. Through the morning, the investigation carried

:04:55. > :04:59.on. The world demanded answers. Tonight, the black box is now in the

:05:00. > :05:03.hands of experts who say they do not appear to have been tampered with.

:05:04. > :05:06.This while the rebels showed no signs of hacking down. Today accused

:05:07. > :05:15.of shooting down to make Ukrainian fighter jet. `` two Ukrainian

:05:16. > :05:19.fighter jets. Today, with the victim is finally coming home, the Rim

:05:20. > :05:23.process of identifying the bodies will begin. At the Prime Minister

:05:24. > :05:34.warned that process could take months `` grim prospect.

:05:35. > :05:41.No US airlines are flying into Israel because the conflict is too

:05:42. > :05:51.dangerous. UN officials are raising the visual `` issue of war crimes.

:05:52. > :05:55.As a Red Cross convoy creeps forward, we followed behind,

:05:56. > :06:00.entering a deserted and destroyed Gaza neighbourhood

:06:01. > :06:08.echoing around us. Israel pounding the area for four days. Hamas

:06:09. > :06:13.militants fighting back. A bulldozer cleared of the way. These rescue

:06:14. > :06:18.workers are paying on doors, calling out for the wounded, clearing one

:06:19. > :06:23.house and moving to the next. And, frantic digging as a man is pulled

:06:24. > :06:27.from his house which collapsed. Seems like these have triggered a UN

:06:28. > :06:34.investigation into warcrimes with each side accused `` scenes. Nearly

:06:35. > :06:38.75% of the 700 Palestinians killed here were civilians, according to

:06:39. > :06:44.the UN. Israel say they are targeting militants and accused

:06:45. > :06:50.other `` Hamas of using human shields. Two Israeli civilians have

:06:51. > :06:58.been killed, while more than 30 soldiers have died. Israel's main

:06:59. > :07:02.airport is empty following a ban on American flights to Israel for

:07:03. > :07:06.another 24 hours. Other top international airlines have done the

:07:07. > :07:10.same. After a rocket wasn't intercepted, it landed a mile from

:07:11. > :07:15.the airport on Tuesday. It was claimed by Hamas as a victory. John

:07:16. > :07:21.Kerry spent the day in Israel pushing a ceasefire deal, but has

:07:22. > :07:26.left tonight empty`handed. Israel is talking about expanding its

:07:27. > :07:31.operation, at Hamas is refusing a ceasefire until its demands are met.

:07:32. > :07:37.`` us. Back at home, the plot thickens in the case of the

:07:38. > :07:50.mysterious white flags found at top that Brookland Bridge.

:07:51. > :07:55.New York City is beefing up security on the iconic bridge after someone

:07:56. > :08:01.scaled its iconic towers, unfurling Jos it `` mysterious flags.

:08:02. > :08:05.Additional cameras are being put on the bridge. Officials tells us the

:08:06. > :08:11.stunt does not reveal a whole insecurity. Does it not reveal how

:08:12. > :08:16.of honourable we are? Not necessarily. Someone placing a

:08:17. > :08:20.flight is different to someone trying to do damage and. This is the

:08:21. > :08:26.third high`profile breach of eight new yuk landmark in a year. Brazen

:08:27. > :08:29.base jumpers let off the top of the World Trade Center in September and

:08:30. > :08:34.then in March a teenage boy scaled the same building, sneaking past

:08:35. > :08:37.security. It was a challenge to the police Department and they

:08:38. > :08:44.succeeded, the police department failed. People said those behind the

:08:45. > :08:49.stunt work experienced climbers who could scale the 276 foot towers,

:08:50. > :09:00.somehow making it past the locked gates. Once our top, `` on top, take

:09:01. > :09:05.a look at this video, at 3:30am, the light of eliminating one of the

:09:06. > :09:09.flags flickers out. The same thing with the other flag. Police are

:09:10. > :09:12.looking for five people seen on video crossing the bridge 20 minutes

:09:13. > :09:18.before the lights went out. The police Department says it is

:09:19. > :09:21.troubling. Just to give you an idea of sensitivity, we are talking about

:09:22. > :09:26.the largest collection of government buildings in one area outside

:09:27. > :09:31.Washington. Take a look, from where we are, the tower on the Manhattan

:09:32. > :09:36.side, NYPD headquarters, City Hall, the federal courts, all about half a

:09:37. > :09:41.mile away. There were four police officers on the bridge that night,

:09:42. > :09:44.none of them are being disciplined. We have learned that cameras on the

:09:45. > :09:50.bridge are notoriously bad at night. More are being added.

:09:51. > :09:55.That is a surprise. Thank you. Now, we take you to the drum inside

:09:56. > :10:02.a courtroom in Detroit, raising questions about race and when the

:10:03. > :10:05.law permits you to fire a gun. A man charged with fatally shooting

:10:06. > :10:11.a young woman on his porch. He was white, she was black. The court sat

:10:12. > :10:19.in silence as the call was played to 911. 54`year`old Theodore appeared

:10:20. > :10:24.expressionless in court, accused of killing this woman in the middle of

:10:25. > :10:29.the night. She was drunk that night and injured, stumbling to his door.

:10:30. > :10:34.After a car accident. He grabbed his shotgun and fired through the screen

:10:35. > :10:40.self defence. His lawyers said that self defence. His lawyers said that

:10:41. > :10:44.her client feared for his life. Someone comes right in front of him,

:10:45. > :10:52.less than two feet away, coming at him from the side and he sees half a

:10:53. > :10:56.figure and he shoots. The case has sparked outrage with some comparing

:10:57. > :11:02.the killing to that of trade on Martin. The prosecution argued that

:11:03. > :11:07.MacBride posed no threat. There were no signs of attempted breaking into

:11:08. > :11:11.the house. In court, the prosecution played Waifer's called the police

:11:12. > :11:17.after the shooting. I have just not someone on my front porch with

:11:18. > :11:23.Waifer's lawyer argues he was terrified that it right was pounding

:11:24. > :11:26.on the front door. At the centre of the trial, a law allowing a person

:11:27. > :11:30.to use deadly force to defend themselves if they reasonably

:11:31. > :11:35.believe there is a danger of death or bodily harm. On the witness

:11:36. > :11:40.stand, MacBride's mother breaking down, remembering her daughter. If

:11:41. > :11:48.convicted of second`degree murder, Waifer could face life in prison.

:11:49. > :11:51.And, next tonight, a warning for American families about a study that

:11:52. > :11:55.finds a spike in the number of teenagers who say they have tried

:11:56. > :12:03.performance enhancing drugs specifically, HTH, hGH. The drug is

:12:04. > :12:07.linked to the athletes. Our correspondent linked it to let

:12:08. > :12:14.Armstrong. Our correspondent shows us. Tonight, high school students

:12:15. > :12:20.are not just trying to get an edge on the field, they are trying to

:12:21. > :12:25.look good also. Over one in ten high school students, more than double

:12:26. > :12:32.last year, admit to trading HTH, or supplements claiming to boost their

:12:33. > :12:37.hGH levels, according to a survey. This is very disturbing and

:12:38. > :12:41.dangerous. This is only available by prescription and it is intended to

:12:42. > :12:46.promote growth. It can also be used to improve muscle mass and

:12:47. > :12:50.appearance. Many over`the`counter supplements are available, which

:12:51. > :12:56.always with the warning, 18 years always with the warning, 18 years

:12:57. > :13:01.and older. The internet is full of testimonials claiming before and

:13:02. > :13:06.after results from using HGH. What many teenagers don't know is that

:13:07. > :13:11.they can be harmful side`effects, high levels of HGH can affect muscle

:13:12. > :13:15.and bone development, lead to early onset diabetes and maybe even

:13:16. > :13:22.increase the risk of cancer. These are things like diabetes, sugar

:13:23. > :13:25.control problems, cardiac problems, bone growth problems. These

:13:26. > :13:33.teenagers don't understand the ramifications West or `` punt? They

:13:34. > :13:38.really believe it is safe. Parents need to remain vigilant. If you see

:13:39. > :13:42.a change in your child's progress or if they are out all sorts, that

:13:43. > :13:46.could be a warning sign. Take it as a chance to have a conversation with

:13:47. > :13:51.your child. Keep the lines of communication open. Again, boys and

:13:52. > :13:57.girls are in this survey. Next, the diamond in the rough. How

:13:58. > :14:02.do you find your dream home in a neighbourhood you thought you

:14:03. > :14:07.couldn't afford? And, the hero dog. Some say it one saves up to 200

:14:08. > :14:08.American lives. Tonight, we show you the people who want to bring their

:14:09. > :14:23.best friends home. Next, and is as about buying and

:14:24. > :14:28.selling your home. We have been telling you about the redhot housing

:14:29. > :14:35.market `` answers. The median sale price for an existing home increased

:14:36. > :14:37.to $223,000 in June. Tonight, our correspondent shows you how to find

:14:38. > :14:43.a hidden treasure in a neighbourhood you love.

:14:44. > :14:47.First`time homebuyers Alison and David had their heart set on their

:14:48. > :14:56.dream neighbourhood, Grant Parker Plant are. The home is beautiful. ``

:14:57. > :15:02.Atlanta. A wish list, three bedrooms, two bath and space for a

:15:03. > :15:09.growing family. Plus, eight by state under $300,000. `` a pricetag. They

:15:10. > :15:16.were getting priced out. This home went for $350,000. This one, 300 and

:15:17. > :15:21.19,000. We will have to leave this neighbourhood. Experts estimate they

:15:22. > :15:28.are are 1.7 million undervalued homes they went looking for a hidden

:15:29. > :15:36.gem. Don't shy from a house that looks terrible. White Robert Smith

:15:37. > :15:40.has helped countless families. The rule of thumb is to buy the cheapest

:15:41. > :15:44.will the worst house on the best street. The worst house on the best

:15:45. > :15:55.street? And fix it up. If the structure is sound, look past

:15:56. > :16:02.outdated interiors. Storage space wasn't in love with. Don't be afraid

:16:03. > :16:10.of a bad kitchen or weird colours. That is the easy stuff, stuff you

:16:11. > :16:17.fortune. How do you get their? Ask fortune. How do you get their? Ask

:16:18. > :16:22.your agent to show you pocket listings `` there. Homes that

:16:23. > :16:26.haven't hit the market. Get the right neighbours, your future

:16:27. > :16:30.retirement fund, you have got to take that chance if you want to make

:16:31. > :16:36.a killing. Alison and David did, landing this diamond in the Russell

:16:37. > :16:42.$283,000. Tonight two months later, agents tell us the house is worth

:16:43. > :16:49.$42,000 more. `` diamond in the rough fort to hundred and $83,000.

:16:50. > :16:52.Termites, cracking foundations and water problems are issues you should

:16:53. > :16:57.not compromise on. Of course, you always want to get a thorough

:16:58. > :17:05.inspection. It went up that much in two months?

:17:06. > :17:11.A trend of rising in the Instant Index. These kayakers off the coast

:17:12. > :17:19.of Argentina. In the distance, watch a pot of Wales. The humans move in

:17:20. > :17:25.for a closer look and so do the whales. They lift the kayak out of

:17:26. > :17:33.the water. The human is suspended before the whale left them panel of.

:17:34. > :17:36.24,000 troops leave Afghanistan by the end of the year, hoping to bring

:17:37. > :17:42.their friends with them. Friends who also showed courage in combat. Our

:17:43. > :17:49.correspondent tells us about the veterans who deserve home and family

:17:50. > :17:54.also. A service member's best friend.

:17:55. > :17:59.Nowhere is the bond tighter than when they have been in battle

:18:00. > :18:05.together. Sergeant Jason Boss and the chocolate lab spent a year

:18:06. > :18:10.together. This is my best friend, my battle buddies. Conducting 100

:18:11. > :18:14.missions, seeking out explosives and weapons and keeping each other

:18:15. > :18:19.company. This is to eight spoke to every day. The bond grew quickly.

:18:20. > :18:25.When he left the army, the dog stayed behind. With help from the

:18:26. > :18:30.American Humane Society, they were reunited 18 months later. There have

:18:31. > :18:34.long been dogs of war. This photo is from World War II. Some $3000 has

:18:35. > :18:41.served in the US military since 9/11. When they retire, they are put

:18:42. > :18:49.up or general adoption. Now, there is a movement to reunite them with

:18:50. > :18:54.their battle mates, not just for the dog s' sake. This man was awarded

:18:55. > :19:00.eight gold star after he helped rescue wounded soldiers in

:19:01. > :19:04.Afghanistan. After 2.5 years of suffering PTSD, his dog is by his

:19:05. > :19:10.side helping him again. She saved me and other soldiers and now she will

:19:11. > :19:17.continue to save me emotionally. They are battle mates, best friends

:19:18. > :19:23.and more. We thank you for watching. I will

:19:24. > :19:35.see you back here again tomorrow night. Until then, goodbye.

:19:36. > :19:41.Wednesday was the warmest of the year across Scotland, Northern

:19:42. > :19:49.Ireland and Wales. News about Thursday is that he will remain
