:00:00. > :00:00.seen across the United States a couple of hours ago, in ABC World

:00:00. > :00:20.News with David Muir. Tonight, the breaking development

:00:21. > :00:24.doctors revealing they are testing a patient in New York City right now.

:00:25. > :00:28.The heightened alert across the country, learning of half a dozen

:00:29. > :00:32.patients tested at home. We have seen the image of the American

:00:33. > :00:35.doctor infected, back home and walking into a hospital. We now know

:00:36. > :00:39.about the secret drug given to him. The frantic search, pounding on

:00:40. > :00:45.Windows, buried in the mud. The summer camps around it. Now,

:00:46. > :00:51.tropical cyclones swirling. `` surrounded. And, what we are

:00:52. > :00:56.learning about passenger jets and the near misses with drones, pilot

:00:57. > :01:00.scrambling. And, the stunning hospital visit. That is Taylor

:01:01. > :01:04.Swift, and a little boy on the left. You are about to hear a duet she

:01:05. > :01:19.will never forget. We begin with the extreme caution

:01:20. > :01:24.across this country tonight, doctors in emergency rooms on the lookout

:01:25. > :01:28.for a bowler. Tonight, we have learnt that one person is being

:01:29. > :01:33.tested in New York City after having travelled to the region. That person

:01:34. > :01:40.is in isolation. The CDC is telling our. Tonight but since the outbreak

:01:41. > :01:42.again, about half a dozen patients have been tested in America. There

:01:43. > :01:48.is also news about the experimental drug used to treat the American

:01:49. > :01:51.doctor infected and back in the US. He is showing signs of improvement,

:01:52. > :01:56.communicating with his wife through a glass window. He surprised

:01:57. > :02:03.everyone when he was seen walking out of the ambulance into the

:02:04. > :02:08.hospital. While physicians in Atlanta fight to

:02:09. > :02:12.save the life of this stock, administrators at Mount Sinai

:02:13. > :02:17.Hospital in New York shared late today that they may to have a

:02:18. > :02:22.patient sick with a bowler. `` too. He walked into their hospital room

:02:23. > :02:29.with a fever and gastrointestinal symptoms. He recently travelled to a

:02:30. > :02:33.West African country. We see people with symptoms like that all the

:02:34. > :02:39.time, but not people who have travelled to West African countries.

:02:40. > :02:45.With those two things together, that would raise their level of concern.

:02:46. > :02:50.Only 40% of Ebola patients survive, and the Atlanta doctors treating

:02:51. > :02:54.this man hope he will be one of them. He arrived on Saturday,

:02:55. > :02:59.climbing from this ambulance in a bio suit. He has been taking an

:03:00. > :03:03.experimental drug that his missionary organisation tells us is

:03:04. > :03:07.working wonders, after he was on the brink of death. Today we have

:03:08. > :03:14.learned his fever is lower. The 33`year`old doctor has just `` had

:03:15. > :03:17.just moved his family to Liberia. He and others at his field hospital

:03:18. > :03:23.were infected by someone who was sick on their cleaning crew. This

:03:24. > :03:27.woman helped decontaminate doctors, and she also got sick. She is on a

:03:28. > :03:33.flight to Atlanta tonight in a specially outfitted transport. She

:03:34. > :03:37.received a dose of the experimental drug, and her condition is

:03:38. > :03:44.improving. She is able to walk around, there are some signs of

:03:45. > :03:48.strengthening. We saw the ambulance that will drive her to the hospital,

:03:49. > :03:54.scoured down after paramedics after moving the doctor on Saturday. The

:03:55. > :04:00.bleach I am smelling is because we are dealing with Ebola. They will

:04:01. > :04:06.throw away or burn protective covers or blankets used in sight. All be

:04:07. > :04:14.great and blankets we use will be incinerated. The disease has already

:04:15. > :04:17.killed over 900 people. A sick person flew from Liberia to Nigeria,

:04:18. > :04:24.and now the doctor who treated him is also sick. Tonight, the doctor's

:04:25. > :04:26.wife is with him in Atlanta, and she has to speak with him through a

:04:27. > :04:38.phone. Doctor, you are telling me that he

:04:39. > :04:40.spoke to the CDC today. They revealed they have tested half a

:04:41. > :04:46.dozen patients around the country. They had all travelled to that hot

:04:47. > :04:50.zone? They had all travelled there, and they had symptoms consistent

:04:51. > :04:58.with Ebola. That is exactly what we want to see, this testing. There

:04:59. > :05:11.have been so many viewer questions. One viewer asked what was in the

:05:12. > :05:14.experimental drugs. It is so encouraging he is getting better,

:05:15. > :05:18.that drug has never been tested on humans. It is so encouraging that he

:05:19. > :05:23.is getting better. Another question...

:05:24. > :05:31.Because you can have this virus in your blood without showing any signs

:05:32. > :05:36.for weeks, we are going to see isolated cases. But if we are

:05:37. > :05:40.vigilant we won't see it spread. To totally knocked out we have to get

:05:41. > :05:47.together in the world and knock it out in West Africa.

:05:48. > :05:52.These dramatic pictures captured during a deadly mudslide. Thousands

:05:53. > :05:58.of people stranded by giant flows of mud. That is a van completely

:05:59. > :06:02.swallowed. No one was hurt in that case. Look at this car, flipped

:06:03. > :06:12.upside down after being swept away by might and rain. Tonight, more

:06:13. > :06:17.danger on the way. Raging floodwaters turning streets

:06:18. > :06:21.into rivers. The thick mud rolling down Southern California

:06:22. > :06:27.mountainsides, with little time to escape. Cars washed away in an

:06:28. > :06:31.instant, rescue teams rushed to search for signs of life. Using a

:06:32. > :06:36.tool to break the window, they gain access and check inside. That one

:06:37. > :06:43.second of relief followed by tragedy. Just 50 miles away, this

:06:44. > :06:52.man was killed. His car was also swept away, into a creek. Tonight,

:06:53. > :06:55.this family are continuing home `` returning home one day after getting

:06:56. > :07:02.married, to find their home swallowed in mud, and their dogs

:07:03. > :07:08.buried. We are now realising they are gone. At one point, 2500 people

:07:09. > :07:16.were stranded by a wall of mind, including dozens of campers. Rescue

:07:17. > :07:19.crews believe at least 80 homes are damaged by the storm, water that is

:07:20. > :07:23.desperately needed elsewhere in the state. Firefighters battling more

:07:24. > :07:29.than a dozen fires currently burning in California. More than 100 square

:07:30. > :07:34.miles burn in Northern California, at least eight homes destroyed and

:07:35. > :07:38.more than 700 threatened. The cleanup is now under way, with

:07:39. > :07:40.these large rocks and powerlines, it is a process that could take several

:07:41. > :07:53.days. More flooding in the east, in Naples

:07:54. > :07:56.Florida, heavy thunderstorms have caused flooding. In some places more

:07:57. > :08:02.than five inches of rain in 1.5 hours. Our chorus has been tracking

:08:03. > :08:07.it. Rain on both sides of the country `` correspondent. The

:08:08. > :08:12.wettest August day on record for that city. But five states out west,

:08:13. > :08:17.a flash flood threat. Anywhere you see covered in aqua, a lot of

:08:18. > :08:26.Foakes, have to be on the lookout for two inch rainfall. `` folks. And

:08:27. > :08:31.all day long you are tracking these hurricanes on both sides of the

:08:32. > :08:56.country. We actually have a major category for, polio right behind

:08:57. > :09:07.it, a set on the way. `` Julio. We seen this kind of hurricanes in

:09:08. > :09:10.1992, in two dates. Their water was

:09:11. > :09:15.contaminated by green sludge. Tonight they are drinking the water

:09:16. > :09:18.again, but experts tell us they are not the only community dealing with

:09:19. > :09:27.this. Up to 40 states ripe for outbreaks. Tonight, the people of

:09:28. > :09:32.Toledo turned on their taps and drink the water for the first time

:09:33. > :09:38.in more than 50 hours. Taste good. Washing dishes and even brushing

:09:39. > :09:42.their teeth without having to worry about getting sick. My appreciation

:09:43. > :09:49.for water has jumped tenfold. I never realised how much water used

:09:50. > :09:53.during the day. A state of emergency in place in Saturday when 400,000

:09:54. > :09:58.residents were ordered not to drink the water. Our water is safe. And

:09:59. > :10:04.there is now trying to ease fears. Today we headed out to meet the

:10:05. > :10:12.chief culprit, these algae blooms, the suspected source of those toxins

:10:13. > :10:15.in the water. This green sludge is affect in lakes across the country.

:10:16. > :10:21.According to the National wildlife Federation, 40 states across the

:10:22. > :10:26.nation have reported back with outbreaks of toxic allergy. It is

:10:27. > :10:31.being caused by farm run`off, human sewage from stormwater in cities,

:10:32. > :10:37.and made worse by climate change. Greater rain and snow is falling.

:10:38. > :10:43.Experts say new farming techniques are needed to keep fertiliser on

:10:44. > :10:48.field and not spilling into the water surprise Koreas supply. This

:10:49. > :10:53.crisis has been a huge wake`up call `` water supply. In the meantime

:10:54. > :10:56.they hope for some rain to help rake up that algae. Next, a case being

:10:57. > :11:00.closely watched this evening across the country. A Michigan homeowner on

:11:01. > :11:04.trial for killing an unarmed teenager who showed up on his front

:11:05. > :11:09.porch in the middle of the night looking for help. He feared

:11:10. > :11:13.otherwise. This is the front door in a typical American neighbourhood

:11:14. > :11:25.where it all played out. Today the homeowner was in court explaining

:11:26. > :11:33.himself. So devastating. This poor girl, she had her whole life in

:11:34. > :11:39.front of her. I took that from her. 55`year`old Theodore, wiping tears

:11:40. > :11:44.from his eyes, as he testified in his own defence about shooting and

:11:45. > :11:47.killing a 19`year`old on the porch of his suburban Detroit home in

:11:48. > :11:56.November of last year. Why did you kill her? A total reflects reaction,

:11:57. > :12:00.defending myself. He has been charged with second`degree murder,

:12:01. > :12:05.prosecutor saying he shot her through the face through a closed

:12:06. > :12:09.and locked door after witnesses sheet she was disoriented following

:12:10. > :12:15.a car crash. He has pleaded not guilty, the racially charged case

:12:16. > :12:23.for some drawing similarities with the Trayvon Martin case. I wasn't

:12:24. > :12:30.going to cower in my house, I didn't want to be a victim. Do you remember

:12:31. > :12:41.crying within 2.5 or three hours of shooting her? No, I don't think so.

:12:42. > :12:47.You didn't cry, right? No, I don't think so. At will the jury believe

:12:48. > :12:56.him? If convicted he could face life in prison. `` but will the jury

:12:57. > :13:01.believe him? A possible breakthrough, both Israelis and

:13:02. > :13:05.Palestinians accepting a plan from Egypt to negotiate a long`term

:13:06. > :13:10.truce. As we have seen, other ceasefires have failed. Just today,

:13:11. > :13:14.the battle moved into Jerusalem, where a Palestinian man rammed a

:13:15. > :13:18.bus, killing a pedestrian. A short time later, a Palestinian on a

:13:19. > :13:25.motorcycle shot a policeman and then got away. More ahead on World News

:13:26. > :13:29.on Monday night. The scare in the sky just now being revealed, what we

:13:30. > :13:31.learnt late today at a passenger jets over some of the busiest cities

:13:32. > :13:37.in America, dodging drones. Pilots scrambling. Two passengers have any

:13:38. > :13:43.idea? And a surprise visit from Taylor Swift, in a duet this little

:13:44. > :14:32.hear it for yourself in a moment. hear it for yourself in a moment.

:14:33. > :14:39.Next night to an ABC news exclusive. Passenger jets dodging drones.

:14:40. > :14:42.Pilots scrambling to avoid them. Our correspondent got answers. Tonight,

:14:43. > :14:46.news that more of these type of drones had got close to passenger

:14:47. > :14:50.jet liners in the New York area, forcing evasive action by some

:14:51. > :14:54.pilots. A senior aviation source tells ABC News that in the past 30

:14:55. > :15:00.days, there has been an increase in incidence. One in just the past 48

:15:01. > :15:04.hours. In two of those incidents, the source tells us, the pilots have

:15:05. > :15:08.turned their aircraft away, worried about possible collision with the

:15:09. > :15:13.unmanned drones. We have heard these concerns before. A pilot on approach

:15:14. > :15:20.to JFK reported a close call. We just saw a little own. To worry is

:15:21. > :15:24.that these small drones could do big damage to jet liners filled with

:15:25. > :15:29.passengers. The biggest worry is it could be ingested by a jet engine at

:15:30. > :15:35.high power on take for instance, and shut the engine down. In a

:15:36. > :15:38.statement, we heard there was a small increase in the number of

:15:39. > :15:42.drones incidents in New York possibly due to increased awareness.

:15:43. > :15:46.Agency encourages pilots to report these close calls. Our aviation

:15:47. > :15:51.source says that as of Friday, controllers have been asked to make

:15:52. > :15:55.a specific report each time a drone gets close to a jet. We heard that

:15:56. > :15:59.reports have varied, from observations by pilot to actual

:16:00. > :16:01.evasive action, all of this as the FAA considers rules for the

:16:02. > :16:06.explosion of inexpensive flying aircraft, which can reach far into

:16:07. > :16:10.the sky, like the one which flew by the Space Needle, or the one which

:16:11. > :16:15.flew into a New York building, fell, and hit a pedestrian. The FAA will

:16:16. > :16:20.have to work harder and faster to get these rules written. The area

:16:21. > :16:24.has been called the wild West for drones. And new rules either FAA are

:16:25. > :16:30.not expected until the end of the year. Our instant index, 53 candles

:16:31. > :16:35.on President Obama's birthday cake. Back when he was running for

:16:36. > :16:39.president in 2008, and six years later, wearing the weight of the

:16:40. > :16:45.office of little bit. Happy birthday, Mr President. And a very

:16:46. > :16:52.special duet at Boston's Jordan's Hospital. We are never, ever, ever,

:16:53. > :16:57.getting back together. `` Boston's children's Hospital. The secure of

:16:58. > :17:10.leukaemia patient held his own. Just listen. `` six`year`old. A man who

:17:11. > :17:15.came to symbolise the National book don a push for gun control. James

:17:16. > :17:20.Brady was 73. You will remember those frantic moments, his life

:17:21. > :17:24.forever changed in that attack on President Reagan. Tonight, our chief

:17:25. > :17:29.White House correspondent on a man who turned tragedy into a lifelong

:17:30. > :17:33.mission. Nancy Reagan had reportedly said she wanted a young, handsome

:17:34. > :17:41.press secretary to represent her husband on TV. She got the six foot

:17:42. > :17:45.one, ?250, mostly bald, James Brady. 40 years old, nicknamed the bare,

:17:46. > :17:52.and is known above all for his sense of humour `` 250 pound. He had been

:17:53. > :17:58.press secretary for just 69 days when those shots rang out in 1981,

:17:59. > :18:03.one bullet striking Reagan in the chest. Another penetrating ready's

:18:04. > :18:09.skull. He was presumed dead. We are being told that Jim Brady has passed

:18:10. > :18:12.away. He survived, making his first appearance more than seven months

:18:13. > :18:16.later, partially paralysed, in near constant pain, and for a while,

:18:17. > :18:22.barely able to talk. Aurally it's the right thing to do. He dedicated

:18:23. > :18:26.the rest of his life to fighting gun violence. 12 years after he was

:18:27. > :18:32.shot, Congress passed the Brady will, requiring waiting periods and

:18:33. > :18:40.background checks for all handgun purchases `` Brady Bill. The area

:18:41. > :18:45.where he had held court was dubbed the games ready press briefing room.

:18:46. > :19:02.We hope to see you back here tomorrow for Diane and all of us.

:19:03. > :19:04.Hi there. Basking in some warm sunshine across eastern England.
