:00:00. > :00:12.left the United Kingdom. Time now for ABC World News with David Muir.

:00:13. > :00:15.Tonight, deadly flash flood emergencies. Drivers trapped in

:00:16. > :00:20.their cars in several cities. Neighbourhoods under water in the

:00:21. > :00:27.east. In the west, a driver jumping onto a fire truck amid raging

:00:28. > :00:31.waters. Breaking news from Iraq. US Marines and special forces land in

:00:32. > :00:41.northern Iraq, where we have seen those refugees. What is the plan

:00:42. > :00:46.tonight for US forces? And the detention and tear gas, the new

:00:47. > :00:52.description from inside the police car in St Louis. What happened

:00:53. > :01:09.moments before the unarmed teenager was shot? Good evening. Several

:01:10. > :01:13.developing stories. We begin with the deadly flash flooding and state

:01:14. > :01:17.of emergency tonight. Massive flooding hit so fast that drivers

:01:18. > :01:24.were trapped. These images from Long Island, New York. Rescue joined

:01:25. > :01:31.forces to help stranded vehicles out of the flood zone. Similar

:01:32. > :01:38.conditions in Maryland. Highways around Baltimore were shut down. It

:01:39. > :01:42.is not just the east. This is footage from Phoenix, a driver

:01:43. > :01:48.jumping from his car to a fire truck to escape the rushing waters there.

:01:49. > :01:56.The storm moved quickly up the east post over the last 24 hours. `` east

:01:57. > :02:02.coast. We begin our coverage on Long Island, when a massive sinkhole has

:02:03. > :02:06.opened. This is not what you would expect to see at a local shopping

:02:07. > :02:14.mall, a sinkhole opening up after extreme flooding. So many people

:02:15. > :02:20.have been affected. Flash flooding chaos across the north`east. In

:02:21. > :02:24.Rhode Island, firefighters had to rescue this driver after water

:02:25. > :02:30.inundated his vehicle. A state of emergency in New York. 13 inches of

:02:31. > :02:37.rain in just hours, a new record. The weather caused a tractor trailer

:02:38. > :02:41.to hit and killed a driver. Here, the flood waters are so intense that

:02:42. > :02:47.cars were actually floating. Look at this one. The water picked it up and

:02:48. > :02:53.slammed it against the railing. The house behind that railing was also

:02:54. > :02:59.flooded. The house looks like an island. In New York, even the fire

:03:00. > :03:04.chief was pumping out three feet of water from his basement. It has

:03:05. > :03:09.never been this high before, not even during hurricane Sandy. In

:03:10. > :03:19.Michigan, major roadways were closed. In Maryland, heavy rains

:03:20. > :03:23.completely flooded the area. In North Carolina, flooding, power

:03:24. > :03:29.outages, downed trees and rescues after severe storms. Flash flooding

:03:30. > :03:37.was wreaking havoc in the west as well. In Phoenix, a man trapped on

:03:38. > :03:41.the roof of his car. He was about to get washed away by the water.

:03:42. > :03:50.Seconds to spare, he has only one choice: A leap of faith onto the

:03:51. > :03:54.fire truck. The weather system flooding the east got its start in

:03:55. > :04:03.the Midwest. This is what it did to a hospital in Nebraska. Nine feet of

:04:04. > :04:09.water crashed through the windows. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.

:04:10. > :04:14.Meanwhile, in Long Island, this sinkhole keeps growing. The workers

:04:15. > :04:27.here will be cleaning up for quite some time. Thank you. OK. This storm

:04:28. > :04:32.is not over yet. New Hampshire and Maine are feeling the brunt. This is

:04:33. > :04:38.the accumulated rainfall map. Southern and central New Jersey got

:04:39. > :04:46.eight inches. In Central Long Island, 13.3 inches. Only five miles

:04:47. > :04:53.away, one inch. How do something like that happen? This is the

:04:54. > :04:57.picture from early this morning. Heavy rains slipped right over the

:04:58. > :05:03.central parts of Long Island. It is that low pressure system rotating

:05:04. > :05:11.counterclockwise. The low`level jet in full effect. All of it combining

:05:12. > :05:16.for a mass. That explains why neighbourhoods a few miles away did

:05:17. > :05:21.not get any. In the west, we have flash flood warnings. And along that

:05:22. > :05:27.cold front, they are worried about the wind warnings and the warnings

:05:28. > :05:35.for lightning. And of course, nothing that will help those fires.

:05:36. > :05:38.And tonight, that huge dust storm rolling through eastern Washington

:05:39. > :05:45.State and Idaho over the last 24 hours. It is being powered by winds

:05:46. > :06:12.up to 60 mph. Nobody was hurt but it made driving dangerous.

:06:13. > :06:17.holding on to it, crashed. A pilot was killed. Tonight, our

:06:18. > :06:21.correspondent standing live. What is the plan for troops in Iraq? But

:06:22. > :06:26.first, our correspondent is on the ground in northern Iraq. Tonight,

:06:27. > :06:31.American troops off that mountain, after assessing the dire situation.

:06:32. > :06:37.Refugees trapped, militants below. The same militants facing off with

:06:38. > :06:40.Kurdish troops, known as the Peshmerga. We drove with them

:06:41. > :06:46.through the sunbaked sand of northern Iraq, right into no man's

:06:47. > :06:50.land. The brutal ISIS fighters just a few minutes away. This is the

:06:51. > :06:55.frontline of the war against ISIS, just across the trench is a village

:06:56. > :07:01.occupied by ISIS. How often are they shooting at you? They are shooting

:07:02. > :07:04.us every night. Kurdish soldiers say American airstrikes have helped to

:07:05. > :07:08.slow down the militants in their push to take over the country. They

:07:09. > :07:12.have missiles, rockets, and tanks. We don't care. We will fight by

:07:13. > :07:19.hand. At this rate they might have two, as we saw first hand. Can I see

:07:20. > :07:27.this? So this is all you have? No body armour? No. Now preparing for

:07:28. > :07:31.war, a rescue mission for refugees fearing for their lives, trapped by

:07:32. > :07:34.the militants high on the mountain. A White House has not ruled out

:07:35. > :07:38.deploying troops to help them get down to safety. With thousands of

:07:39. > :07:42.ISIS fighters here on the ground, make no mistake. Getting those

:07:43. > :07:48.refugees off that mountain and down to safety will be a dangerous

:07:49. > :07:50.mission. I want to bring in our Chief global affairs correspondent.

:07:51. > :07:54.You reported earlier that those US forces and marines had landed on

:07:55. > :07:59.that mountain for a time today. The big question for people at home

:08:00. > :08:02.tonight, what comes next? Officials I have been in touch with say they

:08:03. > :08:06.are just waiting for the approval and they would be ready to go with a

:08:07. > :08:10.rescue mission. So far of course, our contribution has been through a

:08:11. > :08:19.power. The US launched more fight a jet of a carrier today. But in order

:08:20. > :08:23.to rescue thousands of people who would almost certainly need boots on

:08:24. > :08:26.the ground. `` you would need. And while the White House has insisted

:08:27. > :08:29.over and over that US troops would not be put back into a combat role

:08:30. > :08:31.in Iraq, this rescue mission would put them into enemy territory, and

:08:32. > :08:37.they certainly could be sucked into combat if they came under fire. Our

:08:38. > :08:41.correspondent live in our Washington bureau. We move on to the new

:08:42. > :08:45.development near St Louis Missouri, after the police shooting of an

:08:46. > :08:49.unarmed teenager. Police used tear gas for the third night in a row

:08:50. > :08:52.overnight, this demonstrator throwing a canister back. Tensions

:08:53. > :08:58.had been high all week long, the community demanding answers. And

:08:59. > :09:01.this evening, what they are now revealing about the officer in that

:09:02. > :09:07.car, his condition. Late this evening, protests continue down the

:09:08. > :09:12.streets of Ferguson. They were demanding answers, into the police

:09:13. > :09:19.shooting of an armed teenager. At the centre of this movement. The

:09:20. > :09:23.police are scheduled to meet with the victim's family tomorrow. With

:09:24. > :09:26.their threats coming in daily, police refused to identify the

:09:27. > :09:31.murderer who gunned down Michael Brown, just to make days before he

:09:32. > :09:34.should have started college. If it comes down to a lawsuit, police

:09:35. > :09:38.promised to appeal the issue to the highest court. They argue there was

:09:39. > :09:42.a fight at the scene and today told of the officer was injured in a

:09:43. > :09:46.scuffle and had to be treated in hospital. His face was swollen. He

:09:47. > :09:52.had been hit or punched or something like that. Tear gas has been filling

:09:53. > :09:57.the air, and bullets are lighting up the night. Even shooting at police

:09:58. > :10:01.helicopters. The FAA is so concerned they have issued a no`fly zone

:10:02. > :10:07.covering the entire city. Today we met randomly, who says young people

:10:08. > :10:10.clashing with police are not Ards, and this is civil disobedience. He

:10:11. > :10:14.asked us to show these pictures of people clearing the streets. I

:10:15. > :10:22.understand what these brothers are doing. Come on, just look on the

:10:23. > :10:28.news. No jobs, so many people in prison. People are asked to protest

:10:29. > :10:33.and much in daylight hours. But family said they should be allowed

:10:34. > :10:38.to demonstrate whenever they like. And now to the political headlines

:10:39. > :10:42.tonight. President Obama on vacation, and within tonight, former

:10:43. > :10:46.Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. A lot of focus on this meeting

:10:47. > :10:50.because of comments she made about his foreign policy. They forged a

:10:51. > :10:54.partnership in the White House, but is it cracking, as she prepares for

:10:55. > :11:00.a run for president? Our correspondent live on the Vineyard.

:11:01. > :11:05.They will be seeing each other late tonight, this right after Secretary

:11:06. > :11:09.Clinton offered her most pointed criticism yet of President Obama's

:11:10. > :11:13.foreign policy. She tried to smooth things over a short while ago at a

:11:14. > :11:18.book signing. But look what happened when asked her about the specifics.

:11:19. > :11:23.We have disagreements, and any friends and partners as we are might

:11:24. > :11:29.very well have. But I'm proud to have served with him and for him,

:11:30. > :11:32.and I'm looking forward to seeing him tonight. Do you think he is

:11:33. > :11:36.handling the situation in Iraq right now... Would you be doing it

:11:37. > :11:40.differently? I'm excited to be signing books. Secretary Clinton

:11:41. > :11:46.said she would absolutely hug it out with President Obama when she sees

:11:47. > :11:49.him at a private party tonight. But rest assured that if she runs for

:11:50. > :11:53.president this will not be the last time that she finds herself at odds

:11:54. > :12:01.with the President. Always fun when you show up at a book signing. The

:12:02. > :12:06.teenager discovered living in a Walmart. How did no wonder? And the

:12:07. > :12:07.American flag is being taken off the Brooklyn Bridge, and what they said

:12:08. > :13:04.they did with the flags afterwards. We are going to turn out to another

:13:05. > :13:08.Hollywood legend lost the overnight we learned Lauren Bacall died of a

:13:09. > :13:16.stroke aged 89. Her looks and husky voice made her a star in the golden

:13:17. > :13:21.age of film. Her first movie led to her offscreen romance and marriage

:13:22. > :13:25.to Humphrey Bogart. And who could forget that moment she reminded us

:13:26. > :13:33.how to whistle? What did you do that for? I was wondering whether I would

:13:34. > :13:37.like it. What is the decision? I don't know yet. She would decide

:13:38. > :13:41.soon after that on`screen romance would become a real one. A

:13:42. > :13:47.smouldering beauty from Hollywood's old age, Lauren Bacall was fiercely

:13:48. > :13:52.independent, a little dangerous, and that voice was perhaps the most

:13:53. > :14:05.powerful weapon. I like that. Except... Except for the beard. Why

:14:06. > :14:09.do you shave and will trade again. And try it again they would.

:14:10. > :14:13.Starring in four movies together. You know how to whistle, don't you,

:14:14. > :14:25.Steve? You just put your lips together and blow. And he listened.

:14:26. > :14:29.WACA one was spotted at just 19. Summons to Hollywood to start

:14:30. > :14:35.opposite Humphrey Bogart. Despite their 25 year age difference they

:14:36. > :14:45.married a year later. What's wrong with you? Nothing you can't fix. But

:14:46. > :14:50.Bogart would die of cancer, and on`screen, her line said it all. Of

:14:51. > :14:54.course I want to get married again. Who doesn't? It's the biggest thing

:14:55. > :14:57.you can do in life. She would later famously have a relationship with

:14:58. > :15:07.Frank Sinatra, before divorcing, and revealing much later, that Bogey was

:15:08. > :15:12.the only one. They were all a mistake except for Bogart. Starring

:15:13. > :15:18.in dozens of films and on Broadway, she won an honourary Oscar in 2009.

:15:19. > :15:26.And just listen to what she told Diane. It is hard to believe it all

:15:27. > :15:29.happened to me. I just think it is something else. You do have the

:15:30. > :15:35.sense that, how could I have lived through that? The singular Lauren

:15:36. > :15:40.Bacall. We are hearing were tonight from Robbie Williams' family after

:15:41. > :15:43.his suicide this week. His son, Zachary, asking his fans to be as

:15:44. > :15:54.generous as his father was `` Robin Williams. And Williams' second wife

:15:55. > :15:59.saying her heart had lit wide open. Our instant index tonight. In an end

:16:00. > :16:02.to the mystery of the white flags replacing the American flags on

:16:03. > :16:08.Auckland Bridge. They believe to back German artist secretly swapped

:16:09. > :16:12.them for fun, calling it out. Tonight, in concerned over the

:16:13. > :16:17.handling, the artists say they folded them the way they were

:16:18. > :16:21.supposed to. But is that any excuse? Police say a 14`year`old boy was

:16:22. > :16:26.caught living in a 24`hour Walmart near Dallas. He had made a makeshift

:16:27. > :16:30.bed, even food from the shelves. He was visiting relatives and it took

:16:31. > :16:34.two days before anyone noticed his disappearance. He had been hiding

:16:35. > :16:45.behind toilet paper and baby products. You have heard about the

:16:46. > :16:50.bare behind `` bear behind the wheel. He went to eat lunch in a

:16:51. > :16:59.truck, helping himself to a sandwich. Thank you for watching. I

:17:00. > :17:10.hope to see you first thing in the morning on GMA. Good night from all

:17:11. > :17:16.of us. Hello again, good morning. There were too many showers here at

:17:17. > :17:18.home on Wednesday, but it was a different story elsewhere around

:17:19. > :17:19.Europe. Very disruptive storms, this
