:01:13. > :01:18.correspondent has the latest. He has seen the video. It is a chilling
:01:19. > :01:24.video and something no one will want to see. US authorities are studying
:01:25. > :01:28.the video posted late in the day. A White House spokesperson said that
:01:29. > :01:33.if it is genuine they are appalled by the brutal murder of an innocent
:01:34. > :01:36.journalist. It appears to show the journalist James Foley on his knees
:01:37. > :01:45.with his executioner next to him, holding a knife. Foley disappeared
:01:46. > :01:50.about 21 months ago, in 2012, while on assignment. He was brave and
:01:51. > :01:53.daring, and was earlier held captive in Libya before heading to Syria to

:02:02. > :02:06.video, he is forced to make a statement on the American bombing of
:02:07. > :02:10.Iraqi and then his executioner, speaking in English, with a British
:02:11. > :02:14.accent, addresses President Obama saying, the attacks by the US air
:02:15. > :02:18.force had resulted in the bloodshed of your people. The video shows the
:02:19. > :02:24.beheading of Foley, a disturbing scene.
:02:25. > :02:31.This is an apparent video that we are still checking on to ensure this
:02:32. > :02:35.is what it seems. As you say, apparently a retaliation for the
:02:36. > :02:42.bombing. That colleagues hold out some hope this is a fabrication. ``
:02:43. > :02:45.that is right. This is a mutant strain of violence from ISIS. I want
:02:46. > :02:53.to bring in our correspondent who is on the ground in Iraq.
:02:54. > :02:56.The people of Iraq and Syria have long known how brutal ISIS is and
:02:57. > :03:01.their goal has been to take this part of the world back to a level of
:03:02. > :03:10.savagery not seen since the Middle Ages. It is a way to declare who
:03:11. > :03:14.they are and how extreme jihadis they are. Defeating them will take a
:03:15. > :03:22.tremendous amount of effort. This is not a shadowy group of hijackers, it
