:00:00. > :00:00.has done best out of the last year. `` turnaround for Bashar al`Assad.

:00:07. > :00:17.Time now for ABC World News with Dianne Sawyer. Welcome to World

:00:18. > :00:20.News. Tonight, beating Ebola, the remarkable recovery of two

:00:21. > :00:25.missionaries. Today is a miraculous day. Tonight out of the hospital. Is

:00:26. > :00:29.there any risk for those around them? The growing terror threat and

:00:30. > :00:33.a new warning about the brutal forces of ISIS, the US clearly

:00:34. > :00:37.getting ready to act. And new details about the failed rescue

:00:38. > :00:48.raid. And new travel scams. The hotel phone call that could empty

:00:49. > :00:52.your bank account. And a good evening to you on this Thursday

:00:53. > :00:56.night. We began with the stunning and wonderful return to life of two

:00:57. > :01:02.Americans infected with the deadly Ebola virus, tonight declared cured,

:01:03. > :01:06.leaving the hospital in Georgia. His two pictures say at all. Doctor

:01:07. > :01:14.high`fiving his medical team today. It was 20 days after this image.

:01:15. > :01:20.Brantley Getting out of the ambulance and walking into this

:01:21. > :01:23.hospital with the medical officers sealed in medical suits. We will

:01:24. > :01:31.speak to our correspondent in a moment, at first, we live the drama

:01:32. > :01:35.of this day. For a missionary who nearly died after contracting Ebola,

:01:36. > :01:41.there was good reason for Cheers and applause. Today is a miraculous day.

:01:42. > :01:48.I am thrilled to be alive. On Wednesday, July 23. I woke up

:01:49. > :01:53.feeling under the weather. And then my life took an unexpected turn, as

:01:54. > :01:58.I was diagnosed with Ebola virus disease. Nervous but healthy looking

:01:59. > :02:02.doctor stepped in front of cameras with his wife, and then hugged every

:02:03. > :02:07.member of his medical team who had had to work in protective suits and

:02:08. > :02:12.bubbles but were not worried today. After three weeks here, he is now

:02:13. > :02:18.cured, and is now even in unit to the virus responsible for 1300

:02:19. > :02:22.deaths in west Africa. `` immune. God saved my life, a direct answer

:02:23. > :02:27.to thousands and thousands of prayers. I am thankful to all

:02:28. > :02:32.involved in my care, from the first day of my illness up to today.

:02:33. > :02:37.Families were praying for both he and his co`worker, seen here working

:02:38. > :02:40.at this Liberian field hospital. It took a rescue mission to fly them

:02:41. > :02:43.stateside when they were sick, and they both received an experimental

:02:44. > :02:47.drug. She was discharged on Tuesday. There was ongoing testing, feedback

:02:48. > :02:55.and results. So I feel extremely confident that these patients pose

:02:56. > :02:59.no public threat whatsoever. She is doing very well, she is just trying

:03:00. > :03:03.to get the strength back that she had before she came down that the

:03:04. > :03:07.virus. Missionaries tell us the focus needs to remain on West

:03:08. > :03:12.Africa. In Liberia it has come to this. There is no way in and no way

:03:13. > :03:18.out. Police in riot gear have quarantined hundreds of people.

:03:19. > :03:21.Later they we heard from the family's Church in Fort Worth,

:03:22. > :03:27.Texas. They tell us he would be overwhelmed with the number of

:03:28. > :03:32.people who will want to hug him. We will turn to ABC's chief medical

:03:33. > :03:37.editor. He has travelled the world hunting down viruses. On the

:03:38. > :03:41.question of contagion, they have been tested, but how are they sure

:03:42. > :03:46.it is not contagious any more? They will not have any virus in the blood

:03:47. > :03:49.or euro on. The one recommendation public health officials make is to

:03:50. > :03:56.use condoms per about three months after infection `` urine. They

:03:57. > :04:01.should be free in the community without spreading disease. Now they

:04:02. > :04:06.are immune, which means they can go in and help other patients without

:04:07. > :04:13.risk? Baron into this strain of Ebola, that is `` they are immune to

:04:14. > :04:36.this strain of the virus. People who have recovered can be caregivers. Is

:04:37. > :04:36.fast they say it worked. They need to do a study to find out whether

:04:37. > :04:43.difference, before rushing to judgement that it was a miracle. ``

:04:44. > :04:46.hurts. And now the other big story today, the hunt for those

:04:47. > :04:51.responsible for executing James Foley. One of the men, with what

:04:52. > :04:56.seemed to be a British accent. And now the urgent worry about another

:04:57. > :05:06.hostage, and details of the rescue mission that failed. ABC's chief

:05:07. > :05:11.correspondent. With growing concerns about the fate of a second US

:05:12. > :05:17.hostage, US officials defended the failed rescue attempt in Syria on

:05:18. > :05:21.the July four weekend. Omission was executed flawlessly after a

:05:22. > :05:27.significant period of preparation, planning, and rehearsal `` the

:05:28. > :05:31.mission. And it turned out that the hostages were no longer at that

:05:32. > :05:34.location. US officials say the secret night`time mission targeted a

:05:35. > :05:38.large ISIS camp in Syria. It involved several dozen special

:05:39. > :05:48.operation troops. And ships, helicopters, and surveillance drones

:05:49. > :05:53.overhead `` gunships. The US will not relent in trying to bring our

:05:54. > :05:58.citizens home and their captors to justice. The rescue mission was

:05:59. > :06:02.launched after it became clear that no negotiations were possible with

:06:03. > :06:07.the ISIS group, which had demanded a ransom of $130 million for the

:06:08. > :06:11.release of James Foley. The FBI didn't take it seriously. We didn't

:06:12. > :06:14.take it seriously. People involved in the process of State ISIS

:06:15. > :06:17.hostages from France and other European countries were set free

:06:18. > :06:21.after ransom payment of about $2 million cash bid. Delivered by

:06:22. > :06:27.middlemen from Turkey. Something the US has refused to consider. And 2014

:06:28. > :06:31.alone, they have gotten millions of dollars from kidnapping western

:06:32. > :06:35.citizens. Obviously we believe very strongly that we need to cut off

:06:36. > :06:41.their funding. As the FBI stepped up its investigation, some former

:06:42. > :06:45.hostages identified James Foley's executioner as one of three British

:06:46. > :06:49.citizens they nicknamed the Beatles, who served as jailers, torturers,

:06:50. > :06:59.and executioners for the Islamic terror group.

:07:00. > :07:04.ISIS tonight said in an e`mail that you do not spare hour week children

:07:05. > :07:10.and women, so we will not spare yours. As you know, the central

:07:11. > :07:15.question is what will work to defeat a force as ruthless and implacable

:07:16. > :07:19.as ISIS? What are they talking about today? They're going to continue

:07:20. > :07:24.these airstrikes and they have really been pounding those ISIS

:07:25. > :07:25.targets in Iraq. They have pounded about 100 targets since the

:07:26. > :07:35.airstrikes began. They said today at the Pentagon that

:07:36. > :07:39.they are sure ISIS will regroup, and Chuck Hegel called ISIS an imminent

:07:40. > :07:44.threat to every interest we have, whether it is in Iraq or anywhere

:07:45. > :07:49.else. What about in an thread, does that mean a specific target in the

:07:50. > :07:54.US? `` fracked. I don't think he meant that, he meant the region ``

:07:55. > :07:58.threat. They are concentrating on the region now and I would not rule

:07:59. > :08:04.out airstrikes in Syria, the Pentagon said today. Martha, Brian,

:08:05. > :08:10.thanks very much. Good to have you with us in New York

:08:11. > :08:15.tonight. To Ferguson, Missouri, and a sign that chaos after Michael

:08:16. > :08:18.Brown's death may be subsiding. The governor ordered a systematic

:08:19. > :08:25.withdrawal of the National Guard. Overnight there were fewer addressed

:08:26. > :08:30..Mac arrests, with authority saying the crowds were smaller and violence

:08:31. > :08:36.was less. More details on what brought the economy to the brink a

:08:37. > :08:42.few years ago. A landmark settlement between bank of America and the

:08:43. > :08:46.Justice Department. $60.25 billion. What does the bank admit it did? We

:08:47. > :08:52.have been talking to our sources all day.

:08:53. > :08:57.Today bank of America admitted to massive fraud, fraud that cost

:08:58. > :09:02.thousands of Americans their homes. Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and

:09:03. > :09:05.Countrywide each engaged in pervasive schemes to defraud

:09:06. > :09:09.financial institutions and other investments. They were packaged as

:09:10. > :09:12.good investments and when they failed it led to a tsunami of

:09:13. > :09:18.bankruptcies and foreclosures, igniting the great recession. It's

:09:19. > :09:22.like going to your grocery store that is advertised as fresh, only to

:09:23. > :09:26.discover that store employees knew the milk you were buying had been

:09:27. > :09:33.left out on the loading dock unrefrigerated. Today's record,

:09:34. > :09:37.nearly $17 billion, includes $7 billion for ready for underwater

:09:38. > :09:42.homeowners. It includes several big pay`outs. Many bank executives,

:09:43. > :09:49.including the CEOs of Countrywide and JP Morgan trace, were brought

:09:50. > :09:53.before Congress. Do you understand this is difficult for my

:09:54. > :09:56.constituents to take? Our industry shares some of that responsibility.

:09:57. > :10:03.Former Countrywide CEO and genome is LO is facing the threat of a federal

:10:04. > :10:06.lawsuit. But today there were no criminal charges filed against

:10:07. > :10:10.high`level executives. Banks don't commit crimes, bankers do. Not a

:10:11. > :10:15.single banker is being held accountable here. Justice Department

:10:16. > :10:18.officials said criminal charges could come. Six years after the

:10:19. > :10:25.collapse, many critics are sceptical. For the thousands of

:10:26. > :10:28.homeowners who lost everything, critics are blunt. They say somebody

:10:29. > :10:32.big needs to go to jail. Now a trial in the headlines tonight

:10:33. > :10:35.and not quite what we have ever seen from a political couple in trouble.

:10:36. > :10:41.Former Virginia Governor Bob McDonald, the charge is political

:10:42. > :10:47.corruption. But it was his very personal defence that riveted the

:10:48. > :10:52.country today. Virginia Governor Bob McDonald... He

:10:53. > :10:56.appeared the polished politician with convincing confidence, talked

:10:57. > :10:59.about as a possible presidential candidate. But behind the portrait

:11:00. > :11:02.of Bob McDonald was the emotional wreckage of a troubled dissolving

:11:03. > :11:12.marriage. He told how he was accused of

:11:13. > :11:15.working with his wife to trade access to luxury gifts and cash.

:11:16. > :11:20.That's why the troubled marriage is key to his defence, arguing things

:11:21. > :11:24.got so bad with his wife they couldn't communicate enough to trade

:11:25. > :11:28.their position for privileged. But prosecutors say Johnny Williams, the

:11:29. > :11:34.CEO of a diet supplement company, provided them the use of his private

:11:35. > :11:38.jet, a Ferrari, gifts including a Rolex watch, $15,000 for their

:11:39. > :11:44.daughter's wedding reception. In all, $165,000. But the former

:11:45. > :11:49.governor claims the businessman got no special access. I never thought I

:11:50. > :11:53.would be having to testify in a trial like this. Painful

:11:54. > :12:01.admissions, emotionally reading eight 2011 love letter to his wife,

:12:02. > :12:05.in which he wrote about, that a 2011 love letter `` a 2011 love letter.

:12:06. > :12:10.He went on to culture is it got so bad that he would work until he was

:12:11. > :12:14.asleep in the Governors Mansion to avoid contact. If convicted both he

:12:15. > :12:20.and his wife could be moving into prison cells.

:12:21. > :12:24.Up next here tonight, how to be smart about travel scams. Something

:12:25. > :12:29.new, the late`night phone call to your hotel room that could empty

:12:30. > :12:33.your bank account. And music to their ears? The new way to keep your

:12:34. > :13:45.dog happy and maybe save your furniture when you're away.

:13:46. > :13:55.Next tonight, and alert in time for the final getaway of summer. AAA

:13:56. > :14:05.predicts 37 point million and it `` 34.7 million Americans will be

:14:06. > :14:09.travelling this weekend. `` an alert. What started out as a pitstop

:14:10. > :14:16.in this new audience hotel ended up a major pitfall for Christine and

:14:17. > :14:21.her daughter, Katie. It's about midnight and our hotel room phone

:14:22. > :14:29.rings. It is one of the ladies from the front desk explaining, " I need

:14:30. > :14:34.your card number to put on file otherwise you need to get out of the

:14:35. > :14:38.room" . So she gave her debit card number and went back to sleep. I

:14:39. > :14:43.woke up and immediately thought there was something sketchy about

:14:44. > :14:47.that call. She checks her bank account and realises all her money

:14:48. > :14:52.has gone. It turns out this is so common that many hotels present

:14:53. > :14:56.their guests with warnings about it, including the Best Western where

:14:57. > :14:59.they stayed. The American hotel and lodging industry says it provides

:15:00. > :15:04.regular updates to hoteliers on fraudulent activities, like this

:15:05. > :15:09.one, the pizza scam. You'll find flyers under your door when you take

:15:10. > :15:12.into the hotel. You call, you give them your credit card information,

:15:13. > :15:20.you order your pizza and nothing comes. Because they're not a

:15:21. > :15:24.restaurant? It's nothing, a thief. Never give credit card information

:15:25. > :15:29.over the phone once you have checked in. Go to the front desk. You want

:15:30. > :15:33.to see the person getting this information from you. Check in with

:15:34. > :15:36.a credit card instead of a debit card. They can move that money out

:15:37. > :15:42.of your bank account in the blink of an eye. The advice we consistently

:15:43. > :15:50.heard? It's fine to let your hair down on vacation but don't let down

:15:51. > :15:52.your guard. A play date getting a lot of

:15:53. > :15:56.attention to light, two kids visiting an aquarium in Connecticut

:15:57. > :16:03.when this whale swims by simply to say hello, then gave them a bit of a

:16:04. > :16:09.scare. Snapping the jaws... Doing it again. Maybe just entertaining them

:16:10. > :16:13.in the style of a whale. An unusual way of saying let's just be

:16:14. > :16:16.friends. A Grammy win has been writing songs for a particular

:16:17. > :16:22.audience, something to make them relaxed and put up their feet... Oar

:16:23. > :16:27.four of them. A dog I would say would want

:16:28. > :16:34.something more... Andrew now composes and performs music for dog

:16:35. > :16:39.TV, a station that keeps home alone dogs company. 12 million dogs in

:16:40. > :16:44.America have clinically diagnosable separation anxiety. Your music is to

:16:45. > :16:51.calm the dog, to occupy the dog, so it doesn't chew your couch. Save

:16:52. > :16:56.your couch with DogTV. Researchers have discovered cows produce more

:16:57. > :17:01.milk when listening to country, and monkeys like music that sounds like

:17:02. > :17:08.their own screeching. And DogTV actually researched and produced

:17:09. > :17:17.guidelines on what dogs like. Keep it below middle level C, a harp,

:17:18. > :17:22.nothing to piercing. Think Brahms does it work? I can't tell if they

:17:23. > :17:26.are going to be touched or emotionally moved by it, all we can

:17:27. > :17:32.hope for is they don't run away to. We borrowed the owner's dog and

:17:33. > :17:41.Andrew played for him. Tailwagging, licking. She seems happy.

:17:42. > :17:47.Thanks very much. We are always on the website. Nightline is on later

:17:48. > :17:53.and I will see you again tomorrow night. Good night.

:17:54. > :17:58.We will continue to see plenty of showers overnight, especially in

:17:59. > :18:03.central and southern parts of Britain. They will clear quickly in

:18:04. > :18:08.the morning and Friday is looking bright with a lot of sunshine. Still

:18:09. > :18:09.showers are crossed the exposed northern coastal parts of Scotland

:18:10. > :18:10.and Northern
