:00:00. > :00:00.said that the idea was unrealistic. Now on BBC News all the latest

:00:00. > :00:16.business news live from Singapore Jaguar

:00:17. > :00:21.the rest of growth - the economic impact of the shutdown in the Thai

:00:22. > :00:26.capital, Bangkok. An export ban singer that Indonesia

:00:27. > :00:32.lays down the law on the main rule all industry, to promote domestic

:00:33. > :00:38.growth. Look to Asia Business Report. The

:00:39. > :00:42.begin today with Bangkok, where anti-government protesters are

:00:43. > :00:47.planning to shut down Thailand's capital. They are aiming to oust the

:00:48. > :00:57.Prime Minister and her cabinet, following widespread demonstrations,

:00:58. > :01:09.election was called. Polls show that the party would remain in power.

:01:10. > :01:12.Earlier I spoke with an analyst and asked how destructive the

:01:13. > :01:17.demonstrations have been to businesses operating in the Thai

:01:18. > :01:22.capital. It is very difficult for major corporations and businesses in

:01:23. > :01:33.Bangkok itself to operate. They are expecting someone between 150,000 to

:01:34. > :01:40.450,000 demonstrators. It will close down Bangkok for the full C is.

:01:41. > :01:47.Even outside of Bangkok, we are seeing the pro-government

:01:48. > :01:52.supporters. They will be closing down other places. It looks as

:01:53. > :02:01.though Thailand as a whole will be in lockdown. That will have a big

:02:02. > :02:04.impact. A big impact. The Thai chamber of commerce came out with

:02:05. > :02:09.projections of saying some $30 million would be lost today. Will

:02:10. > :02:22.the damages be protracted? Will they be long-lasting. We saw the

:02:23. > :02:28.demonstrations in 2010. Everytime, Bangkok has bounced back. It has

:02:29. > :02:32.shown a resilience which has surprised analysts around the world.

:02:33. > :02:40.I do not expect anything different this time. I think the biggest

:02:41. > :02:47.damage Thailand, in the immediate area, is the tourist dollar. Big

:02:48. > :02:55.airlines have both pulled flights. It is not because they are worried

:02:56. > :03:01.at the threat, it is around mainland Chinese and tourists who are not

:03:02. > :03:04.travelling. Thank you. A controversial new law came into

:03:05. > :03:11.force in Indonesia yesterday. It banned the export of unprocessed

:03:12. > :03:15.mineral ore like nickel and tin. The aim is to keep industry profits in

:03:16. > :03:20.the country. Opponents warned of losses and job cuts. The Indonesian

:03:21. > :03:26.President Di looted the legislation to allow the exports of several

:03:27. > :03:33.concentrates. It means the impact on dozens of large mining companies

:03:34. > :03:40.will be reduced. A partner at an international law firm explained how

:03:41. > :03:46.it will impact the mining industry. The concept is to develop downstream

:03:47. > :03:51.in a -- mineral processing. It takes a massive investment. For smaller

:03:52. > :03:56.companies, the only option is to outsource the process to third

:03:57. > :04:01.parties. At the moment, Indonesia lacks the basic infrastructure to

:04:02. > :04:05.develop facilities. A lot of the projects are a long way off. Part of

:04:06. > :04:10.the issue is the timing around the implementation. The other thing we

:04:11. > :04:15.saw was that nickel prices jumped. They went up 3% in anticipation. It

:04:16. > :04:20.is having international repercussions. Investors also say

:04:21. > :04:25.there is a lot of inconsistency in this law. The have a big election

:04:26. > :04:30.coming up. What you make of this? Will be more clarity? Hopefully that

:04:31. > :04:34.will be more clarity once the regulation is issued. At the moment

:04:35. > :04:44.there is a lot of uncertainty around that. The Supreme Court in Indonesia

:04:45. > :04:47.revoked a 2012 regulation that set about minimum processing

:04:48. > :04:53.requirements. It is unclear how it will be enforced going forward.

:04:54. > :04:56.Thank you. The Chinese security regular Tory

:04:57. > :05:03.commission will be increasing supervision of share sales. They

:05:04. > :05:09.will be random inspections. The stock-market regulator says one

:05:10. > :05:13.Chinese pharmaceutical firm delayed share sales after being priced above

:05:14. > :05:18.the average. Japan has pledged to lend 70 billion yen to Mozambique to

:05:19. > :05:24.help the country develop coal and gas sectors. The loan will take

:05:25. > :05:31.place over five years. It was agreed on during a tour of Africa. Food

:05:32. > :05:42.scares have become increasingly common in the headlines these days.

:05:43. > :05:49.Over one week ago, Walmart's Chinese branch recalled through products.

:05:50. > :05:51.Trying to tackle this is the global food safety partnership made up of

:05:52. > :05:57.70 countries and international organisations. He looks at how food

:05:58. > :06:04.is traded across borders. Our correspondent has more. How you

:06:05. > :06:10.implement the standard, how you test the product, how you deal with

:06:11. > :06:15.borders and customs. That is a part of trade. We will need to harmonise

:06:16. > :06:19.as much as we can to make sure that the flow of products between

:06:20. > :06:22.countries is smooth. That is what different regions are trying to

:06:23. > :06:26.harmonise and work together to overcome. If we look at where we

:06:27. > :06:32.have had different food scares, China is the chief culprit. A new

:06:33. > :06:38.committee has been set up. China also has an increasingly

:06:39. > :06:45.protectionist stance in terms of letting food into the country. How

:06:46. > :06:50.is that acting as an impediment? The case of China is a very interesting

:06:51. > :06:55.case. If we speak about food safety in specific, if we go past the past

:06:56. > :07:02.five years, China has moved quickly. They are acting on different

:07:03. > :07:09.occasions. We now see this dynamic in reforming food safety and in the

:07:10. > :07:15.country. It will be awhile before the system changes. What we see in

:07:16. > :07:19.the coming five or ten years will be China becoming more active in global

:07:20. > :07:27.standards. They will have an influence on how food safety

:07:28. > :07:32.infrastructure is changing. They are reforming standards and regulations,

:07:33. > :07:39.they are moving on to be more active at a global level. The golden local

:07:40. > :07:42.boards are under way in Hollywood. Keeping with the movie theme, we

:07:43. > :07:47.spoke to a film director in India who funded his latest work through

:07:48. > :07:53.an unusual method, online crowd funding. He was unable to find any

:07:54. > :07:58.producers prepared to pay for a film shot in his native language. He

:07:59. > :08:06.explains why he turned to the Internet. I have done about three

:08:07. > :08:13.feature films in the language. I had to tweak my script because the

:08:14. > :08:17.producer would argue. I felt that the key to this whole thing is the

:08:18. > :08:23.audience. They do not come to the theatre when such a film is done.

:08:24. > :08:29.The blog made such an impact that it was very viral. Within a few days I

:08:30. > :08:37.was getting people telling me, why did we Pigeon something? Cycle why

:08:38. > :08:50.don't we pitch in? It was crowd funding. I thought I would try it. I

:08:51. > :08:54.put up the proposal saying they needed around $5 million. The first

:08:55. > :09:01.want to put in the money was 1.2 million. That was shocking. Why

:09:02. > :09:08.would someone with no connection to the film transfer so much money?

:09:09. > :09:14.That I see that what I have started was a revolution in the eyes of the

:09:15. > :09:22.people. We have given ourselves 100 days. We reached it in 27 days. It

:09:23. > :09:26.came from people I have never met. Once we were filming, I figured that

:09:27. > :09:33.we had enough funding to finish the film. The film was becoming more

:09:34. > :09:37.popular day by day. The audience now wanted to watch it on the big

:09:38. > :09:43.screen. Putting a film on the big screen is another huge investment. I

:09:44. > :09:48.created an online web page where somebody could pre- order the film

:09:49. > :09:51.and become an online district. They can share the film with anyone they

:09:52. > :09:58.like and they get a cut from the sales. We are encouraging people to

:09:59. > :10:01.shout the legal links, because they can make money out of it. It is we

:10:02. > :10:08.are getting that money has a pre- order, we use that for distribution.

:10:09. > :10:11.Everything fell in place. This is the first film to experiment with

:10:12. > :10:15.digital distribution. This will only grow bigger from now. A quick look

:10:16. > :10:30.at the markets. Concerns have eased over the Federal

:10:31. > :10:36.reserve. They may put off cuts. That is having a good effect on Asian

:10:37. > :10:42.markets. That is if this edition of Asia Report.

:10:43. > :10:52.You are watching BBC News. Headlines: officials in the US, EU

:10:53. > :10:55.and Iran Sayed agreement has been reached on how to implement and

:10:56. > :11:02.nuclear deal struck in November. Opposition protesters in Thailand

:11:03. > :11:03.have closed major intersections in the
