:00:00. > 3:59:59election. Now on BBC News, all the latest

:00:00. > :00:21.business news, live from Singapore. Hope turns to tragedy for the

:00:22. > :00:25.relatives of the missing Malaysian airline passengers. How technology

:00:26. > :00:28.is helping solve the mystery. And as protest in Taiwan and the second

:00:29. > :00:35.week, we ask how that will affect foreign investments. `` into the

:00:36. > :00:42.second week. Welcome to Asia Business Report. As

:00:43. > :00:45.we have been reporting, the Malaysian Prime Minister has

:00:46. > :00:51.announced that the missing flight MH370 crashed in the southern Indian

:00:52. > :00:56.Ocean. It is a devastating turn for relatives, who have been holding on

:00:57. > :01:00.to hope that their loved ones are still alive. This follows

:01:01. > :01:09.information based on analysis from a British satellite company, by

:01:10. > :01:15.comparing data from previous data from other flights. It is said to

:01:16. > :01:23.have travelled south. We spoke to the team that helped solve the

:01:24. > :01:27.mystery, about where the plane may have ended up. We originated as

:01:28. > :01:33.theory based on a series of. We sent those to the investigation. We have

:01:34. > :01:40.been looking at those pings and whether we can add anything more. We

:01:41. > :01:44.took the Malaysian aircraft dater, modelled that and put that against

:01:45. > :01:52.the northern and southern path. `` data. The path to the south is

:01:53. > :01:57.undoubtedly the one taken. Why haven't you come up with this

:01:58. > :02:01.before? Why has it taken so long? We have been dealing with a totally new

:02:02. > :02:06.area. We have been trying to help an investigation based on a signal once

:02:07. > :02:13.every hour from an aircraft that didn't include any GPS data. So,

:02:14. > :02:18.this was really a shot in the dark. To the credit of our scientific

:02:19. > :02:26.team, they managed to model this. They found a way a single ping can

:02:27. > :02:30.be used to find out that it was travelling at powered up and they

:02:31. > :02:34.then compared these two are the node flights and established it went

:02:35. > :02:41.south. Is this it or can you pinpoint further where it went? We

:02:42. > :02:44.can't get any closer dater. If aircraft were able to report their

:02:45. > :02:50.position, we could tell you in an instant. `` data. It will frighten a

:02:51. > :02:59.lot of people, that an aircraft can go missing like this. Any aircraft

:03:00. > :03:06.can burst off SMS text like messages that give you time, speed, distance

:03:07. > :03:09.and position. That can be done now. It is a wonder that it hasn't been

:03:10. > :03:17.done five years after the Air France loss. Industry is slow`moving. It

:03:18. > :03:21.needs to evolve with technologies that are already established on

:03:22. > :03:25.long`range identification and tracking for ships at sea. It's

:03:26. > :03:31.inconceivable they wouldn't now report their position every six.

:03:32. > :03:37.Surely an aircraft flying at over 400 knots should be providing their

:03:38. > :03:43.position every 15 minutes and that can be done at $1 an hour. A British

:03:44. > :03:48.company has been at the forefront of helping to find this aircraft. You

:03:49. > :03:52.must have mixed feelings about that? Yes, we are very sad for the

:03:53. > :03:58.families who have lost loved ones. We are also pleased that it appears

:03:59. > :04:03.we have made a useful contribution and actually it has formed part of

:04:04. > :04:07.our 34 years of applying the global maritime distress service. Safety is

:04:08. > :04:13.part of our DNA. We are always pleased when we have indicated that.

:04:14. > :04:19.Recesses in Taiwan are keeping up pressure over concerns over a press

:04:20. > :04:22.`` proposed trade deal with China. Some protesters have had to be

:04:23. > :04:27.forced from the office. They want the trade deal to be scrapped but

:04:28. > :04:35.the president insists Taiwan risks being marginalised without it. I ask

:04:36. > :04:40.whether the protest would put the agreement in jeopardy. It is very

:04:41. > :04:44.likely the gratification of the agreement will be delayed. We don't

:04:45. > :04:48.know how long it will be delayed for. Eventually they will need to be

:04:49. > :04:53.some kind of compromise between protesters and legislators and the

:04:54. > :04:58.president. That kind of compromise will probably involve a more

:04:59. > :05:02.detailed review. What could be the middle ground? Are their indications

:05:03. > :05:07.that the Taiwanese government will not back down? It won't back down.

:05:08. > :05:13.This trade agreement is crucial politically to the president. It's

:05:14. > :05:17.part of his platform of relations with minor. It's also part of his of

:05:18. > :05:23.showing that Taiwan should be a participant in other regional trade

:05:24. > :05:29.negotiations. Could this impact China ` Taiwan relations or do the

:05:30. > :05:36.Chinese not care? The Chinese certainly care. A watch Taiwanese

:05:37. > :05:40.domestic politics closely, for its impact on trade relations. China

:05:41. > :05:48.will be very disappointed in the president. What about you doing

:05:49. > :05:57.business in Taiwan? How does the trade deal impact your business?

:05:58. > :06:02.Will you benefit or not? Well, most service providers will stand to

:06:03. > :06:07.benefit. One of Taiwan's selling points is it is close to China. But

:06:08. > :06:14.it has stronger cultural affinity with China, than Hong Kong. People I

:06:15. > :06:16.used to doing business with China. For multinational investors,

:06:17. > :06:21.anything in Taiwan that facilitates closer ties with China is usually a

:06:22. > :06:27.positive. If there are going to be barriers, like with career that is

:06:28. > :06:32.negotiating a trade agreement with China. It is basically a win`win

:06:33. > :06:38.situation for local businesses and foreign businesses, doing business

:06:39. > :06:44.in Taiwan, if this trade deal pushes through? Absolutely. There is a

:06:45. > :06:50.perception by some in Taiwan, including protesters, that it moves

:06:51. > :06:53.Taiwan closer `` too close to China, which could result in job losses.

:06:54. > :07:00.Whether that's true remains to be seen. In other business news, Russia

:07:01. > :07:03.says it expects investors to move out up to $70 billion worth of

:07:04. > :07:07.assets from the country in the first three months of this year. A sign

:07:08. > :07:11.that investors are becoming nervous amid sanctions over Ukraine. There

:07:12. > :07:14.are also warnings of stagnant growth and rising inflation. The head of

:07:15. > :07:19.Europe's policy agency has warned that virtual currencies like bitcoin

:07:20. > :07:24.are being used for money laundering and has called for more powers to

:07:25. > :07:27.tackle the problem. It comes as an American group created the legal

:07:28. > :07:33.framework for buying and selling swaps went to bitcoin. Five former

:07:34. > :07:37.employees of an investment banker have been found guilty of helping

:07:38. > :07:42.him to run the biggest scheme in recent history. He was sentenced to

:07:43. > :07:51.150 years in jail for years go for masterminding the 17.5 in dollars

:07:52. > :07:55.scheme. `` 17 $.5 billion scheme. The New Zealand entrepreneur facing

:07:56. > :08:01.copyright charges has announced plans to go public. Quim. On is

:08:02. > :08:11.seeking to lift his online storage company by a reverse takeover. ``

:08:12. > :08:18.Kim Dotcom. He resigned to focus on fighting action edition charges. His

:08:19. > :08:22.wife owns 26.5% of the company. Internet has become a crucial part

:08:23. > :08:26.our everyday lives are very few of us will everything about the

:08:27. > :08:30.technical rules which govern it. That's a good thing, according to

:08:31. > :08:35.the people who write those rules. But the US government is phasing out

:08:36. > :08:37.its control of the nonprofit organisations that oversees how

:08:38. > :08:43.computers across the world are used to. If all goes to plan, internet

:08:44. > :08:50.users won't notice any difference. That's according to the president.

:08:51. > :08:55.The US has made a very momentous and important and courageous decision.

:08:56. > :09:00.We are embracing it. We meet in Singapore to come together and start

:09:01. > :09:06.planning the calm transition to global multi` stakeholder oversight.

:09:07. > :09:10.But if this transition doesn't go according to plan, what kind of

:09:11. > :09:15.repercussions could this have for the world wide web? For internet

:09:16. > :09:20.users like you and I and everyone else watching us? The US is very

:09:21. > :09:25.clear that unless we come back as a community, with a plan that meets

:09:26. > :09:30.basic requirements to ensure the security and stability and

:09:31. > :09:32.resilience of the technical infrastructure that we co`ordinate

:09:33. > :09:37.that underpins the whole internet, there will not change their

:09:38. > :09:42.oversight plan. There is no danger. It is under control. What we have to

:09:43. > :09:46.do is respond with a proposal and we can move from that oversight model

:09:47. > :09:54.to a global oversight model. Who will be accountable? Who can they

:09:55. > :09:56.report to, if not the US? We are designing the accountability

:09:57. > :10:01.mechanisms now. These are review mechanisms, recourse mechanisms,

:10:02. > :10:04.that will be managed by the community, the private sector, this

:10:05. > :10:13.is, government and civil society together. Let's have a look at the

:10:14. > :10:18.markets. Asian share prices are in negative territory in mid`morning

:10:19. > :10:22.trade after US and it is tumbled overnight over you `` over

:10:23. > :10:26.escalating tension in Ukraine. Investors still uncertain as to

:10:27. > :10:31.whether China will move to shore up economic growth. Japan, Hong Kong

:10:32. > :10:43.and South Korea are all in the loss column. Thanks for investing your

:10:44. > :10:47.time with us. This is BBC News. The headlines: Some of the Chinese

:10:48. > :10:49.relatives of passengers presumed killed in the missing airliner have

:10:50. > :10:55.accused Malaysian authorities of causing their loved ones depths.

:10:56. > :10:56.The search of the wreckage has been suspended because of bad weather. ``

:10:57. > :10:59.the deaths.
