:00:00. > 3:59:59made in talks with the government. Now on BBC News, all the latest

:00:00. > :00:28.business news live from Singapore. Earnings of Japanese exporter is.

:00:29. > :00:30.UnderWater World. Today's cool jobs features what it takes to work at

:00:31. > :00:35.one of the world's biggest aquariums.

:00:36. > :00:45.Hello and welcome. Starting with the Japanese market. The Nikkei index is

:00:46. > :00:49.down by more than 10%. There are concerns over the country's

:00:50. > :00:55.consumption tax which jumped to 8% from 5% at the start of April. We

:00:56. > :00:58.are just at the start of the earnings season and investors will

:00:59. > :01:03.be looking at how exporters are fearing. The yen is hovering at a

:01:04. > :01:12.two`year low against the US dollar. Robot manufacturing saw an 80% fall.

:01:13. > :01:19.I asked if this would set the tone for Japan's corporate earnings

:01:20. > :01:23.season? When you're earning numbers `` the earning numbers showed that

:01:24. > :01:26.investors need to get more exposure to Japan. Most of them spent the

:01:27. > :01:31.first quarter selling out. When you see week data points, it's a great

:01:32. > :01:39.opportunity to get back on the market. `` weak. People don't know

:01:40. > :01:44.the big picture of Abenomics. That's where the focus should be. Focus is

:01:45. > :01:50.on domestic demand. Should we see better numbers, domestically?

:01:51. > :01:54.Absolutely. Going forward, there might be a one month or two month

:01:55. > :01:58.blip in numbers, a distortion caused by the sales tax. But, overall,

:01:59. > :02:05.without a doubt, consumption spending on the domestic front in

:02:06. > :02:10.Japan will increase and the rebirth, if you will, of the modern Japanese

:02:11. > :02:16.economy will take place. Investors need to find a way to participate in

:02:17. > :02:22.that. We are seeing the impact of the consumption tax, raised to 8%.

:02:23. > :02:27.But, over that term, with the Japanese yen weak against the US

:02:28. > :02:34.dollar, helping exporters' bottomline is, could this impact the

:02:35. > :02:38.sales tax? `` offset the sales tax? It could. Exports are only around

:02:39. > :02:44.70% of the economy. In the overall picture, we don't think this is

:02:45. > :02:47.where the biggest impact comes. The biggest impact comes from the move

:02:48. > :02:54.back to 2% inflation from the bank of Japan maintaining a similar Tory

:02:55. > :02:58.policy. And from the Prime Minister's government, focusing on

:02:59. > :03:02.reconstruction or developing a new economic structure for Japan. So, if

:03:03. > :03:09.those things are continuing on the correct path, we need to be getting

:03:10. > :03:16.exposure to Japan against. In other business news, India's Supreme Court

:03:17. > :03:22.ruled that mining can resume in the state of Goa, ending a previous ban

:03:23. > :03:26.to stop environmental damage. But there are conditions attached. The

:03:27. > :03:31.court set a maximum of 20 million tonnes can now be mined every year.

:03:32. > :03:37.Also, mining activities are allowed within one kilometre of parks and

:03:38. > :03:41.centuries. Goa, a top tourist destination, was once the world's

:03:42. > :03:44.biggest exporter of iron ore. It shipped around 100 million tonnes of

:03:45. > :03:49.the war material annually. A net loss will be posted as few are

:03:50. > :03:53.travellers had to Thailand due to the long political unrest. The

:03:54. > :03:56.airline said passenger numbers in March fell by more than 20% from the

:03:57. > :04:04.same period one year ago. Number of seats sold for the first quarter

:04:05. > :04:09.fell by 20%. Thai Airways also cited fears completion from local

:04:10. > :04:12.carriers. The airline is scheduled to announce its first quarter

:04:13. > :04:19.numbers next month. The earnings season is under way in

:04:20. > :04:24.corporate America. Netflix reported a $53 million profit for the first

:04:25. > :04:28.quarter. That is a big jump from the $3 million in profit over the same

:04:29. > :04:33.period last year. Much of the earnings came from the addition of

:04:34. > :04:37.more than 2 million customers through its movie and streaming

:04:38. > :04:41.service. The firm started as a DVD rental service and now produces its

:04:42. > :04:45.own dramas for television. This report from New York.

:04:46. > :04:53.Netflix has been an industry disruptor. Really altering the way

:04:54. > :04:58.people watch TV shows and movies. More recently, some of their

:04:59. > :05:04.original programming, like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black

:05:05. > :05:09.have been real game changers. For the first time, it has surpassed

:05:10. > :05:13.YouTube as the placement people go to watch online videos. It now

:05:14. > :05:19.boasts about 48 million subscribers. Netflix is available in

:05:20. > :05:24.the US and internationally. You subscribers have pushed the

:05:25. > :05:28.company's revenue and earnings up higher for this last quarter. But,

:05:29. > :05:32.for those people who have yet to sign on, they can expect to be

:05:33. > :05:37.paying a little bit more. Netflix will be charging you subscribers

:05:38. > :05:41.about $1 or $2 more in the coming months. Looking forward in the next

:05:42. > :05:46.year or so, Netflix is planning a big push in Europe, hoping to

:05:47. > :05:52.increase how many subscribers it has internationally.

:05:53. > :05:58.For more on Netflix and other top stories from around the world,

:05:59. > :06:05.please visit our website. American car giant Ford will

:06:06. > :06:08.reportedly named the chief operating officer Mark Fields as the successor

:06:09. > :06:11.to its Chief Executive. That's been the buzz in the order industry,

:06:12. > :06:17.according to sources. The automaker has declined to comment. The chief

:06:18. > :06:23.executives is said to be stepping down at the end of this year. He has

:06:24. > :06:26.been credited with providing its fortunes, since taking the helm in

:06:27. > :06:30.2006. The car company is scheduled to hold its annual general meeting

:06:31. > :06:35.in a few weeks, on the 8th of May. Apple is offering free recycling of

:06:36. > :06:41.its used products and said it is making efforts to power all of its

:06:42. > :06:45.stores, offices and centres with renewable energy to reduce the

:06:46. > :06:48.pollution cost by its devices and online services. The firm has

:06:49. > :06:53.started to stripping gift cards at some of its stores worldwide in

:06:54. > :06:57.exchange for iPhones and iPad that are still in good condition to be

:06:58. > :07:01.resold. They also offer a wide array of products that are not supposed to

:07:02. > :07:07.be dumped in landfill is because of the toxins in these items.

:07:08. > :07:10.`` landfills. For most people, the opportunity to go scuba`diving with

:07:11. > :07:14.thousands of topical fish is something he would pay good money

:07:15. > :07:20.for. What if you could do it every day and get paid for it? Good

:07:21. > :07:29.working with marine life at one of the region's guest aquariums be a

:07:30. > :07:38.mum some of Asia's coolest jobs? `` be some of Asia's. Skills required,

:07:39. > :07:42.and interest in marine biology and scuba`diving licence. The rest you

:07:43. > :07:45.can learn the job. Amanda spotted that advert two years ago and now

:07:46. > :07:49.dives everyday to hand feed the animals at this aquarium in

:07:50. > :07:59.Singapore. I do the feeding, cleaning, I do check ups, help the

:08:00. > :08:06.bets with the checkups. The 26`year`old was a science teacher

:08:07. > :08:11.before she took on the job. `` vets. What's the best part? Once you feed

:08:12. > :08:17.the bottom `` reached the bottom, and hand feed the stingrays and the

:08:18. > :08:22.sharks. So long as we don't pose a threat to them, they come forward to

:08:23. > :08:26.us and we don't chase after them and so we don't pose any threat. Do you

:08:27. > :08:31.think your job is a cool job? Evidently. Everyday is a new

:08:32. > :08:35.experience. We have different animals here and each has a

:08:36. > :08:42.different personality. A favourite is a stingray. A small one and the

:08:43. > :08:46.reason I love that is because it is really cute and it is always

:08:47. > :08:49.hungry, so it will always approach me for food and eat from a hand. But

:08:50. > :08:55.if you pardon the pun, something certainly smells fishy around here.

:08:56. > :08:58.That's because, when she isn't in the water, Amanda is preparing the

:08:59. > :09:05.animal's food. For the bigger fish, we feed them things like this, this

:09:06. > :09:13.eat tuna, or big squid and fish, so it is easier to grab it from our

:09:14. > :09:17.hands. `` big tuna. How do you feel about handling fish in this way and

:09:18. > :09:21.the smell? We all have to start from this level, where we prepare the

:09:22. > :09:28.food. Because this is the way that we understand and know what they

:09:29. > :09:33.like to eat. So, knowing how to prepare it is not a dirty job or

:09:34. > :09:39.smelly job but is the basic. And of course it can't just be Monday to

:09:40. > :09:43.Friday. Weekend working is part of the job. What about the pay? It's

:09:44. > :09:48.not going to make you a millionaire by any stretch but Amanda, for one,

:09:49. > :09:57.does it for the love, not just the money.

:09:58. > :10:02.Before we go, a quick look at the markets and Asian stocks. They are

:10:03. > :10:06.mostly in positive territory. After US equities advanced modestly

:10:07. > :10:08.overnight, as investors showed hesitation in the wake of the strong

:10:09. > :10:25.rally last week. Wall Street is getting ready for

:10:26. > :10:30.another slew of earnings this week, including Apple, McDonald's. Goodbye

:10:31. > :10:43.for now. The main stories: At least 100

:10:44. > :10:49.people are known to have died in South Korea's ferry disaster as the

:10:50. > :10:50.recovery goes on. There is growing anger at
