:00:00. > :00:00.June, unless significant progress is made in talks with the government.

:00:00. > :00:27.Now on BBC News, all the latest business news live from Singapore.

:00:28. > :00:34.The weak yen, what impact will it have? UnderWater World. Today's cool

:00:35. > :00:41.jobs features what it takes to work at one of the world's biggest

:00:42. > :00:44.aquariums. Hello and welcome. Starting with the Japanese market,

:00:45. > :00:47.the Nikkei index is down by more than 10%. There are concerns over

:00:48. > :00:51.the country's consumption tax, which jumped to 8% from 5% at the start of

:00:52. > :00:55.April. We are just at the start of the earnings season, and investors

:00:56. > :01:06.will be looking at how exporters are faring. The yen is hovering at a

:01:07. > :01:09.two`year low against the US dollar. And industrial robot manufacturer

:01:10. > :01:12.saw an 80% fall. I asked if this would set the tone for Japan's

:01:13. > :01:15.corporate earnings season, when your earning numbers showed that

:01:16. > :01:26.investors need to get more exposure to Japan. They need to start doing

:01:27. > :01:29.it now. Most of them spent the first quarter selling out. When you see

:01:30. > :01:32.weak data points, it's a great opportunity to get back on the

:01:33. > :01:37.market. People don't know the big picture of Abenomics. That's where

:01:38. > :01:42.the focus should be. Focus is on domestic demand. Should we see

:01:43. > :01:46.better numbers, domestically? Absolutely. Going forward, there

:01:47. > :01:51.might be a one month or two month blip in numbers, a distortion caused

:01:52. > :01:54.by the sales tax. But, overall, without a doubt, consumption

:01:55. > :01:57.spending on the domestic front in Japan will increase, and the

:01:58. > :02:10.rebirth, if you will, of the modern Japanese economy will take place.

:02:11. > :02:18.Investors need to find a way to participate in that. We are seeing

:02:19. > :02:21.the near`term impact of the consumption tax, raised to 8%. But,

:02:22. > :02:24.over that term, with the Japanese yen weak against the US dollar,

:02:25. > :02:36.helping exporters' bottom lines, could this offset the sales tax? It

:02:37. > :02:42.could. Somewhat. Exports are only around 70% of the economy. In the

:02:43. > :02:45.overall picture, we don't think this is where the biggest impact comes.

:02:46. > :02:48.The biggest impact comes from the move back to 2% inflation from the

:02:49. > :03:00.Bank of Japan, maintaining a similar Tory policy. And from the Prime

:03:01. > :03:03.Minister's government, focusing on reconstruction or developing a new

:03:04. > :03:06.economic structure for Japan. So, if those things are continuing on the

:03:07. > :03:16.correct path, we need to be getting exposure to Japan. India's Supreme

:03:17. > :03:19.Court ruled that mining can resume in the state of Goa, ending a

:03:20. > :03:22.previous ban to stop environmental damage. But there are conditions

:03:23. > :03:25.attached. The court said a maximum of 20 million tonnes can now be

:03:26. > :03:33.mined every year. Also, mining activities are allowed within 1km of

:03:34. > :03:36.parks and sanctuaries. `` are not allowed. Goa, a top tourist

:03:37. > :03:39.destination, was once the world's biggest exporter of iron ore. It

:03:40. > :03:47.shipped around 100 million tonnes of the raw material annually. A net

:03:48. > :03:50.loss will be posted by Thai Airways as fewer travellers head to Thailand

:03:51. > :03:53.due to the long political unrest. The airline said passenger numbers

:03:54. > :03:56.in March fell by more than 20% from the same period one year ago. The

:03:57. > :03:59.number of seats sold for the first quarter fell by 20%. Thai Airways

:04:00. > :04:02.also cited fears of competition from local carriers. The airline is

:04:03. > :04:19.scheduled to announce its first quarter numbers next month. The

:04:20. > :04:21.earnings season is under way in corporate America. Netflix reported

:04:22. > :04:25.a $53 million profit for the first quarter. That is a big jump from the

:04:26. > :04:28.$3 million in profit over the same period last year. Much of the

:04:29. > :04:30.earnings came from the addition of more than two million customers

:04:31. > :04:34.through its movie and streaming service. The firm started as a DVD

:04:35. > :04:45.rental service, and now produces its own dramas for television. This

:04:46. > :04:48.report from New York. Netflix has been an industry disruptor, really

:04:49. > :04:51.altering the way people watch TV shows and movies. More recently,

:04:52. > :04:54.some of their original programming, like House of Cards and Orange is

:04:55. > :05:03.the New Black, have been real game`changers. For the first time,

:05:04. > :05:13.it has surpassed YouTube as the place for people go to watch online

:05:14. > :05:22.videos. It now boasts about 48 million subscribers. It made gains

:05:23. > :05:26.both in the United States and internationally. Netflix is

:05:27. > :05:28.available in the US and internationally. New subscribers

:05:29. > :05:31.have pushed the company's revenue and earnings up higher for this last

:05:32. > :05:35.quarter. But, for those people who have yet to sign on, they can expect

:05:36. > :05:38.to be paying a little bit more. Netflix will be charging new

:05:39. > :05:41.subscribers about $1 or $2 more in the coming months. Looking forward

:05:42. > :05:44.in the next year or so, Netflix is planning a big push in Europe,

:05:45. > :05:47.hoping to increase how many subscribers it has internationally.

:05:48. > :06:00.For more on Netflix and other top stories from around the world,

:06:03. > :06:06.the Chief Operating Officer Mark Fields as the successor to its Chief

:06:07. > :06:08.Executive. That has been the buzz in the auto industry, according to

:06:09. > :06:12.sources. The automaker has declined to comment. The chief executive is

:06:13. > :06:15.said to be stepping down at the end of this year. He has been credited

:06:16. > :06:33.with improving its fortunes since taking the helm in 2006. The car

:06:34. > :06:39.company is scheduled to hold its annual general meeting in a few

:06:40. > :06:42.weeks, on the 8th of May. Apple is offering free recycling of its used

:06:43. > :06:45.products, and said it is making efforts to power all of its stores,

:06:46. > :06:48.offices and centres with renewable energy, to reduce the pollution cost

:06:49. > :06:51.by its devices and online services. The firm has started issuing gift

:06:52. > :06:54.cards at some of its stores worldwide in exchange for iPhones

:06:55. > :06:57.and iPad that are still in good condition to be resold. They also

:06:58. > :07:01.offer a wide array of products that are not supposed to be dumped in

:07:02. > :07:03.landfills because of the toxins in these items. For most people, the

:07:04. > :07:06.opportunity to go scuba`diving with thousands of topical fish is

:07:07. > :07:16.something we would pay good money for. What if you could do it every

:07:17. > :07:20.day and get paid for it? It's not quite the open ocean, but working

:07:21. > :07:23.with marine life at one of the region's best aquariums be among

:07:24. > :07:29.some of Asia's coolest jobs? Skills required, an interest in marine

:07:30. > :07:33.biology, and a scuba`diving licence. The rest you can learn the job.

:07:34. > :07:36.Amanda spotted that advert two years ago, and now dives everyday to

:07:37. > :07:46.hand`feed the animals at this aquarium in Singapore. I do the

:07:47. > :07:52.feeding, cleaning, I do check`ups, help the vets with the check`ups.

:07:53. > :08:01.The 26`year`old was a science teacher before she took on the job.

:08:02. > :08:05.What's the best part? Once you've reached the bottom, and hand`feed

:08:06. > :08:09.the stingrays and the sharks. So long as we don't pose a threat to

:08:10. > :08:17.them, they come forward to us, and we don't chase after them, and so we

:08:18. > :08:29.don't pose any threat. Do you think your job is a cool job? Definitely

:08:30. > :08:31.is a cool job. Every day is a new experience. We have different

:08:32. > :08:34.animals here, and each has a different personality. A favourite

:08:35. > :08:38.is the stingray. A small one, and the reason I love that is because it

:08:39. > :08:42.is really cute and it is always hungry, so it will always approach

:08:43. > :08:44.me for food and eat from a hand. But if you pardon the pun, something

:08:45. > :08:47.certainly smells fishy around here. That's because, when she isn't in

:08:48. > :08:54.the water, Amanda is preparing the animal's food. For the bigger fish,

:08:55. > :08:58.we feed them things like this, this eat tuna, or big squid and fish, so

:08:59. > :09:06.it is easier to grab it from our hands. `` big tuna. How do you feel

:09:07. > :09:11.about handling fish in this way and the smell? We all have to start from

:09:12. > :09:15.this level, where we prepare the food. Because this is the way that

:09:16. > :09:22.we understand and know what they like to eat. So, knowing how to

:09:23. > :09:31.prepare it is not a dirty job or smelly job but is the basic. And of

:09:32. > :09:37.course it can't just be Monday to Friday. Weekend working is part of

:09:38. > :09:41.the job. What about the pay? It's not going to make you a millionaire

:09:42. > :09:48.by any stretch but Amanda, for one, does it for the love, not just the

:09:49. > :10:01.money. Before we go, a quick look at the markets and Asian stocks. They

:10:02. > :10:04.are mixed as investors take a wait and see strategy ahead of upcoming

:10:05. > :10:07.earnings reports and tensions in Ukraine. After US equities advanced

:10:08. > :10:11.modestly overnight, as investors showed hesitation in the wake of the

:10:12. > :10:14.strong rally last week. Wall Street is getting ready for another slew of

:10:15. > :10:26.earnings this week, including Apple, McDonald's. Also Microsoft, and

:10:43. > :10:45.South Korea's ferry disaster. As the recovery continues, there is growing

:10:46. > :10:48.anger at the slow pace of the operation. Syria's decision to hold

:10:49. > :10:49.a presidential election, despite the civil war,
