:00:00. > :00:00.Leeds. Anne Maguire was due to retire, after 40 years at Corpus

:00:00. > :00:15.Christi Catholic College. Now, it is time for Asia Business Report.

:00:16. > :00:19.Twitter shares plunge as it struggles to lure new users and

:00:20. > :00:26.excite current ones with new products. And, tropical paradise. We

:00:27. > :00:34.visit a beach resort in Indonesia to find out if this man has one of

:00:35. > :00:39.Asia's coolest jobs. Welcome to Asia Business Report. We

:00:40. > :00:44.start with the social media giant Twitter. They have disappointed

:00:45. > :00:49.again with their second earnings report since going public last year.

:00:50. > :00:53.Monthly active users hit 255 million in the first quarter, but membership

:00:54. > :01:00.growth has slowed to 25%. Revenue more than doubled to 250 million,

:01:01. > :01:04.thanks to a sharp rise in income from advertising, but that did not

:01:05. > :01:10.stop shares falling nearly 10% in after hours straight. We have been

:01:11. > :01:15.speaking to the chief executive, and we explain why investors are so

:01:16. > :01:19.worried. Many people, when they look at young social media companies,

:01:20. > :01:23.they are looking for outsized growth, to justify the fact that

:01:24. > :01:27.these companies have yet to make a profit. Twitter is still making a

:01:28. > :01:33.net loss, even though revenue has doubled. The challenge for the CEO

:01:34. > :01:36.is to ensure investors and analysts that the company is working very

:01:37. > :01:41.hard to continue to keep the growth rate up. The problem you have is

:01:42. > :01:46.that right now, if you look at the reaction amongst the share price,

:01:47. > :01:50.clearly, investors are not convinced that the company at this point is

:01:51. > :01:58.not doing enough to continue to grow with you `` its user base. It added

:01:59. > :02:01.14 million users over the past year, but the problem is that the

:02:02. > :02:10.breakneck pace we have seen in the past is starting to slowdown. As you

:02:11. > :02:17.say, they haven't been reassuring enough for investors and analysts.

:02:18. > :02:24.What is it doing to try to reassure them, advertisers as well, that they

:02:25. > :02:30.will be able to add more users? On the conference call, Dick Costello

:02:31. > :02:33.did look a bit about that, trying to dissuade some of the concerns people

:02:34. > :02:43.had. They are pointing to events like the Oscars, the Super Bowl, big

:02:44. > :02:46.events, and their ability to attract money to those. This was an

:02:47. > :02:51.opportunity going forward, they said, to get not just too big

:02:52. > :02:55.events, but other TV shows. Moments when people like to share an

:02:56. > :02:59.experience. That would be an opportunity to make more money going

:03:00. > :03:03.forward. If you look at Twitter, looking at how the revenue has

:03:04. > :03:06.doubled, the trouble has not been making money, the problem has been

:03:07. > :03:10.to continue to add the people to its service so they can continue to sell

:03:11. > :03:15.advertising. That is what the company has been focused on trying

:03:16. > :03:20.to increase, new products, today they rolled out a new appearance,

:03:21. > :03:24.which resemble something a bit more like Facebook, but will it be

:03:25. > :03:31.enough? Continuing with corporate earnings, and eBay has said it is

:03:32. > :03:36.repatriating almost 9 billion of its cash held overseas back to the US.

:03:37. > :03:40.The firm said that the move, which will see it paying taxes of $3

:03:41. > :03:43.billion on the cash, would help it access funds for any potential

:03:44. > :03:47.acquisitions in the country. Any firms have kept some of their cash

:03:48. > :03:53.overseas, and it is widely seen as a way to avoid higher US tax rates.

:03:54. > :03:57.Lawyers for Apple have accused Samsung of copying key features of

:03:58. > :04:02.its iPhone and iPad products. A jury in California was told that that is

:04:03. > :04:06.how the South Korean electronics giant turned itself into a dominant

:04:07. > :04:11.player in the market. The testimony came in the closing arguments of a

:04:12. > :04:17.high`stakes patents trial which could cost Samsung $2 billion in

:04:18. > :04:24.damages. China's biggest bank has beat forecasts with a near 7% rise

:04:25. > :04:28.to $11.7 billion. They have put it down to steady income from interest.

:04:29. > :04:32.It is the last of China's before lenders to post positive earnings,

:04:33. > :04:38.and all have reported better than expected results in the face of

:04:39. > :04:42.interest`rate reforms. Despite this, shares have fallen an average of 3%

:04:43. > :04:48.in Hong Kong, despite those positive numbers. New data from Japan shows

:04:49. > :04:52.that industrial market is growing, recovering from a 2% fall in

:04:53. > :04:58.February. They reported the first decrease in output, which comes as

:04:59. > :05:07.the Bank of Japan meets expectations to keep monetary policy steady. It

:05:08. > :05:12.could affect the central bank's inflation target of 2%. Shinzo Abe

:05:13. > :05:18.begins a 6`nation tour of Europe today, and he will be visiting

:05:19. > :05:22.Germany, Britain, Portugal, Spain, France and Belgium, with the aims of

:05:23. > :05:33.expanding trade ties. It comes hot on the heels of President Obama's

:05:34. > :05:34.meeting with Shinzo Abe. This was to discuss the Trans`Pacific

:05:35. > :05:53.Partnership, but there was little progress. It is more of a bilateral

:05:54. > :05:58.thing, whereas in the US, the demand for cars is very low, and Japanese

:05:59. > :06:03.carmaker already produce a lot of cars in the US. The US has very

:06:04. > :06:09.little to offer to Japan and a TPP. How much is president Shinzo Abe

:06:10. > :06:15.counting on trade deals? We have seen Abenomics, is policy to boost

:06:16. > :06:21.growth. How much do trade figures figuring that? TPP is important

:06:22. > :06:29.because China is not part it, so it gives Japan some kind of edge over

:06:30. > :06:33.China, and for a couple of things that Shinzo Abe wants to achieve,

:06:34. > :06:37.the TPP is the foundations. Or example, getting more FDI into the

:06:38. > :06:43.country, the TPP is important, and also boosting exports, agricultural

:06:44. > :06:48.exports, for example, that is one target of Abenomics. To get that,

:06:49. > :06:51.agriculture has to become more competitive. At the moment, it

:06:52. > :06:57.isn't, because Japan still has several protectionist measures. It

:06:58. > :07:05.is not competitive, the farm sizes are very small, Japan exports very

:07:06. > :07:11.little agriculturally. Sun, sand and sea. That is a typical

:07:12. > :07:14.holiday for tight professionals looking to escape the office. But

:07:15. > :07:24.for one man, that is where he gets to work, day in and day out. He is

:07:25. > :07:30.the owner and manager of an Indonesian Beach resort, could it be

:07:31. > :07:36.one of the coolest jobs? A tropical paradise, a scuba

:07:37. > :07:43.diver's secret. People come here to escape their jobs, but when calls it

:07:44. > :07:48.home office. My wife and I own this resort, we have four small

:07:49. > :07:53.bungalows, and a dive centre, and we try to make sure that the guest have

:07:54. > :07:57.a wonderful time, a wonderful holiday, with the most fantastic

:07:58. > :08:03.diving in the world. He and his wife built the resort in 2006, after

:08:04. > :08:08.having died here on holiday. Is a certified diving instructor, but

:08:09. > :08:13.these days he only guys for fun. Diving is definitely the main draw

:08:14. > :08:20.of this island. It is like a hidden paradise of Sulawesi. It is full of

:08:21. > :08:23.soft corals, very colourful soft coral. How did he pay for this

:08:24. > :08:29.lifetime of holiday? Before I started this, I had a good job in

:08:30. > :08:34.the Netherlands, and my wife had a good job here in Indonesia, so we

:08:35. > :08:37.were just saving a lot of money. I sold everything I had in the

:08:38. > :08:42.Netherlands, and started this together with my wife. How can you

:08:43. > :08:47.be sure that it was going to work? I think you can never be sure, but I

:08:48. > :08:50.was living in the Netherlands, and they always had this dream of

:08:51. > :08:54.starting my own company somewhere in a nice tropical location. But this

:08:55. > :09:01.dream location also has its downside. Logistics is not the

:09:02. > :09:10.easiest, and we had to arrange everything ourselves. There is no

:09:11. > :09:13.electricity, no facilities. It takes two and a half hours to reach the

:09:14. > :09:17.closest big city, so if you want to go shopping, you had better make

:09:18. > :09:21.sure you have everything in one go. But you get to live in a place where

:09:22. > :09:26.most people have to pay a fortune to get to. Do you think you have a cool

:09:27. > :09:32.job? What can be better than this? I live in paradise, I enjoy time with

:09:33. > :09:41.dogs and with the girls. I have three daughters, and I get the time

:09:42. > :09:47.to read with them, teach them to swim, I don't know anything that is

:09:48. > :09:51.better than this. Owain's advice to those who want to do what he is

:09:52. > :09:57.doing is don't be afraid, you may just succeed and have a wonderful

:09:58. > :09:59.life. That is a cool job! Let's have a

:10:00. > :10:10.look at the markets. In Asia, they are rising, but not by

:10:11. > :10:13.much. There is some caution setting in, because the Bank of Japan

:10:14. > :10:19.monetary policy meeting is coming up, and the Federal Reserve meeting

:10:20. > :10:23.on interest rates in the US. Markets taking their lead from Wall Street,

:10:24. > :10:28.where you can see them being boosted by a fairly good corporate earnings.

:10:29. > :10:43.Thank you for watching. Our top stories: The International

:10:44. > :10:45.Olympic Committee's vice president said
