:00:00. > :00:20.Time now for Asia Business Report. Sharing across industry, sounds and

:00:21. > :00:25.called for an open form for developers of wearable technology.

:00:26. > :00:34.`` Samsung. The potential economic fallout from the's plans to curb

:00:35. > :00:39.Chinese tourists. Hello and welcome to Asia Business Report. I'm

:00:40. > :00:44.Sharanjit Leyl in Singapore. Samsung has extended its portfolio of

:00:45. > :00:48.wearable technology with a prototype wrist and it can be fitted with

:00:49. > :00:53.third`party senses together a range of data about the wearer is health

:00:54. > :00:56.and fitness. The tech giant unveiled its latest innovation at an event in

:00:57. > :01:04.San Francisco where it also made a push for an open system among rival

:01:05. > :01:11.companies. To help get products to consumers quicker. Our technology

:01:12. > :01:15.correspondent was at the event. Samsung diving headlong into the

:01:16. > :01:22.digital health arena. They have had a couple of Flores in the past. An

:01:23. > :01:27.announcement was made this morning, I enjoyed by the president of

:01:28. > :01:33.Samsung. The concept in simple terms, what is it readily is not a

:01:34. > :01:44.consumer product, it is a development platform. It is a

:01:45. > :01:48.platform that enables other centre companies to take advantage of it.

:01:49. > :01:53.One of the issues which I thought is that if you look at typical wearable

:01:54. > :02:02.technology, it is a start up and many art trying to figure out how to

:02:03. > :02:07.make a watch. We want to change the whole equation. We want to create a

:02:08. > :02:15.development platform where they can focus on their expertise and solving

:02:16. > :02:18.problems. They can help us no more a about our technology. You showed us

:02:19. > :02:27.some videos of people explaining how they needed six improve their

:02:28. > :02:31.health. They are interested for a little bit of time but then they go,

:02:32. > :02:36.OK I will keep eating my burgers and fries and my lifestyle will not

:02:37. > :02:44.change. I actually have several of those in my drawer so I am a typical

:02:45. > :02:48.example. Partly because... It was because I didn't care, it is more to

:02:49. > :02:52.do with it was not developed for what I was doing. It was not

:02:53. > :02:59.accurate. I think we are in the early stages of a revolution of

:03:00. > :03:02.wearable, sensory devices. As technology is getting better, they

:03:03. > :03:06.will be more useful. How long will it be before we see products using

:03:07. > :03:13.your platform on the market quicker we are hoping in 2015 there will be

:03:14. > :03:23.many different solutions, adding to the many different markets. From

:03:24. > :03:28.exercise and busiest... That Samsung event takes place one week before

:03:29. > :03:32.rival Apple host it is conference and ventilation is high that Apple

:03:33. > :03:36.has also been working on launching its own wearable devices. Speaking

:03:37. > :03:47.of Apple, it is official that the company is eyeing musing streaming

:03:48. > :03:54.service, Beats electronics. From New York, our correspondent takes a

:03:55. > :04:01.closer look at the acquisition. Even before the deal was done, the

:04:02. > :04:12.co`founder of Beats, doctor Dre, boasted about being a billionaire.

:04:13. > :04:16.The first billionaire in hip`hop! He would be a billionaire just yet. His

:04:17. > :04:23.net worth will be around $800 million. Still, it is a huge sum for

:04:24. > :04:28.him and for Apple. This is the firm 's biggest acquisition yet. It is

:04:29. > :04:35.paying $3 billion to buy Beats, the headphone maker and streaming music

:04:36. > :04:40.service. Beats has the coolest executives, they have a great brand

:04:41. > :04:46.and they have a rapidly growing consumer base, both for the hardware

:04:47. > :04:50.and little suspicious. Apple is grabbing onto their coattails and

:04:51. > :04:54.try to keep their own brand last. Beats is best known for its

:04:55. > :04:58.headphones but for Apple, the real prize is the music streaming

:04:59. > :05:02.service. For the past decade, Apple's I choose has dominated the

:05:03. > :05:10.little music. That was in the download era. These days, it is all

:05:11. > :05:14.about streaming. Even though Apple broke into streaming last September

:05:15. > :05:20.with iTunes radio, the company missed a beat and is now playing

:05:21. > :05:26.catch up. Apple hopes to make sweet music with Beats but did it overpay?

:05:27. > :05:30.With $150 billion in cash, it is a risk Apple can easily afford. The

:05:31. > :05:40.tech giant will properly argue, it can't put a price on cool. In other

:05:41. > :05:46.news, people are spending less in Japan after the company hiked its

:05:47. > :05:49.sales tax in April. Governor data this morning shows that retail sales

:05:50. > :05:55.fell by 4.4% in April from a year earlier. That is a fast decline

:05:56. > :05:58.since the March 2011 earthquake. Most countries around the world are

:05:59. > :06:02.falling over themselves to try and attract Chinese tourists. But Hong

:06:03. > :06:07.Kong is looking at ways to produce the number of mainland Chinese

:06:08. > :06:13.visitors. Last year, 40 million mainlanders visited the territory.

:06:14. > :06:16.That is an increase of 17% from 2012 stop the baulk were individuals

:06:17. > :06:21.travelling on multiple entry permits. Currently, visitors from 49

:06:22. > :06:26.Chinese cities can obtain these permit if officials decide to reduce

:06:27. > :06:29.this number, there are worries that the's economy will suffer. Our

:06:30. > :06:37.correspondent in Hong Kong explains why the government is contemplating

:06:38. > :06:43.a limit. It is inspected to grow to 45 million, up 11% from last year.

:06:44. > :06:49.60% come just for the day. These are the kind of tourist that locals are

:06:50. > :06:55.really not liking. They come just for the day, just to shop. They do

:06:56. > :06:59.not stay in hotels or patronise the restaurants. They tend to come and

:07:00. > :07:05.go. They tend to also congregate in certain areas. That is why every

:07:06. > :07:10.week, we have been seeing protest against mainland tourists. There is

:07:11. > :07:15.speculation that this cut in tourism might be as much as 20%. What impact

:07:16. > :07:21.will that have on Hong Kong's economy. The chief executive

:07:22. > :07:24.confirmed that only one of several options that they are looking at. It

:07:25. > :07:32.has not been confirmed that these cuts will happen. We saw a response

:07:33. > :07:37.in terms of the shares of companies in retail, finance, property. Some

:07:38. > :07:43.of those shares have recovered somewhat. It is true that 200,000

:07:44. > :07:47.people in retail in the tourism sector rely on visitors for their

:07:48. > :07:50.jobs. An enormous cut in the number of people coming in would affect the

:07:51. > :07:56.economy. There was one investment bank that suggested that the retail

:07:57. > :08:05.sector could actually be down as much as 7% from cuts. If you live in

:08:06. > :08:12.Asia, you will know all about the king of fruits, the durian. It is

:08:13. > :08:18.the smell that many people object to others hate the taste. It is big

:08:19. > :08:26.business as well. 23,000 tons were imported in Singapore a loan. A can

:08:27. > :08:32.cost as much as $30 each. Correspond went to the streets of Singapore.

:08:33. > :08:36.You join me in the biggest area of Singapore. Lots of different market

:08:37. > :08:43.stall. This is one of the main ones. I can tell you that the smell is

:08:44. > :08:49.incredible. It is quite hard to describe, it is almost a mixture of

:08:50. > :08:55.bright mangoes and garlic. Known as the king of fruits, it provokes

:08:56. > :09:09.reactions of disgust or addiction. Today, the durian still divides

:09:10. > :09:20.opinion. Not too bad. Thumbs up! Taste a bit awful. Is good.

:09:21. > :09:26.Delicious. It is an acquired taste but I have to give it goes. `` go.

:09:27. > :09:38.Wow. That is strong. Never tasted anything like that. In credible.

:09:39. > :09:42.Kind of overriding garlic taste but I have to say, there is something

:09:43. > :09:48.about it that is a bit of it Moorish. Trading in the king of

:09:49. > :09:52.fruit is serious business and in Singapore, the industry is worth an

:09:53. > :09:57.estimated $230 million. For this man, that is good news. His family

:09:58. > :10:03.has traded in the fruit for decades and his business attracts customers

:10:04. > :10:11.from all over the world. My customers are from Germany, from

:10:12. > :10:17.Australia, sometimes they think the smell is too strong. But then some

:10:18. > :10:24.love it. They will come in three times a day or week to come here and

:10:25. > :10:28.have durian. With demand in the fruit increasing across Asia, for

:10:29. > :10:37.once, fans can afford to turn their noses up at McAree `` durian

:10:38. > :10:44.sceptics. That is it for Asia Business Report. Thanks for

:10:45. > :10:51.watching. In an interview with NBC, Edward

:10:52. > :10:57.Snowden has claimed he was trained as a spy, not just as an analyst.

:10:58. > :11:00.President Obama is out his vision for a different kind of foreign

:11:01. > :11:03.policy with less emphasis on US military intervention.
