:00:00. > :00:14.Now on BBC News, all the latest business news from Singapore with

:00:15. > :00:18.Asia Business Report. Stealing on the high seas. The

:00:19. > :00:25.growing problem of piracy in South East Asia and what is being done to

:00:26. > :00:30.try to stop it. From the land of promise to the land of uncertainty.

:00:31. > :00:39.What are the prospects for mining in Mongolia? Welcome to the programme.

:00:40. > :00:46.Pirates have released an Indonesian bound Thailand tanker after stealing

:00:47. > :00:48.its entire cargo of oil in the latest attack by pirates in

:00:49. > :00:58.south`east Asian waters so far this year. There have been 72 reported

:00:59. > :01:02.cases globally. More than 60 of them were in Asia, mostly South East

:01:03. > :01:08.Asia. While many of the cases were mostly minor, last month, there were

:01:09. > :01:12.two more cases where pirates suspect `` successfully stole fuel. What

:01:13. > :01:21.does this mean for businesses relying on safe shipping routes? The

:01:22. > :01:28.rise in cases in the region is a concern. In the last two months,

:01:29. > :01:33.there have been about three cases of cargo fuel being targeted. And this

:01:34. > :01:37.has happened in the past. It is just that these past two months, the

:01:38. > :01:43.cases have been happening quite close to each other. In this most

:01:44. > :01:50.recent incident, the crew were safe after the pirates siphoned the fuel.

:01:51. > :01:56.Who are behind these pirates? Is this individual opportunism? Is this

:01:57. > :02:00.organised? There are indications suggesting that it is not an

:02:01. > :02:07.opportunistic group that is involved. In a recent case last

:02:08. > :02:14.month, the pirates actually left after siphoning the cargo fuel

:02:15. > :02:19.together with three crew members who took their belongings and travel

:02:20. > :02:23.documents with them. In that case, there is cause to suspect that

:02:24. > :02:31.inside information was involved and some kind of organisation has

:02:32. > :02:35.occurred. Insider jobs. And syndicates working behind these

:02:36. > :02:43.pirates. How much of this is a threat to businesses in Asia,

:02:44. > :02:49.particularly in South East Asia? The majority of the cases in South East

:02:50. > :02:53.Asia are cases of petty theft. Many of these cases have occurred at

:02:54. > :02:58.ports and anchorages. Cases of such siphoning are few and the

:02:59. > :03:03.authorities and the industry are working very closely to prevent such

:03:04. > :03:14.cases from happening again. Thank you.

:03:15. > :03:17.Fresh business news just in. New data from mainland China shows

:03:18. > :03:25.growth in the services vector rose to a six`month high in the month of

:03:26. > :03:29.May. `` services sector. The news comes just days after Beijing

:03:30. > :03:35.reported growth in the manufacturing sector expanded at its fastest pace

:03:36. > :03:41.in five months. This will help allay fears of a slowdown in the Chinese

:03:42. > :03:44.economy. An unprecedented global police operation has stopped a cyber

:03:45. > :03:50.gang suspected of targeting 250,000 computers. Authorities have taken

:03:51. > :03:55.control of a network of hijacked computers thought to have been used

:03:56. > :04:00.to steal personal and financial data from victims. Users have been warned

:04:01. > :04:07.they have two weeks to protect themselves against a powerful

:04:08. > :04:13.attack. Apple is moving into the growing digital health market with

:04:14. > :04:22.the new acquisition of an app that will help users document their

:04:23. > :04:25.health. It failed to excite investors, however, with sales

:04:26. > :04:32.falling slightly on these fresh announcements. But there is a vase

:04:33. > :04:41.around the first day of Asia's biggest computer and technology show

:04:42. > :04:45.`` buzz. Tens of thousands of international buyers are expected to

:04:46. > :04:58.attend. There is a lot of pressure on companies to innovate. With a

:04:59. > :05:04.futuristic touch, computer makers this year unveiled their latest

:05:05. > :05:07.products. PC sales have declined sharply over the last few years and

:05:08. > :05:10.computer makers have fought back by offering their own versions of

:05:11. > :05:17.tablets, smartphones and so`called two in one devices. And they are

:05:18. > :05:26.trying to anticipate your every need. For this 3`D motion sensor, it

:05:27. > :05:30.has just captured me falling and sent an instant message to the

:05:31. > :05:34.smartphone. The point of this technology is that if I were to have

:05:35. > :05:39.an elderly parent living at home alone and she has just fallen over,

:05:40. > :05:43.I would be instantly notified. This is one of an increasing number of

:05:44. > :05:49.devices connected to the internet as part of a trend called the internet

:05:50. > :05:54.of things. Computer makers are trying to catch on to this trend.

:05:55. > :06:01.They are making products smarter, like this vacuum cleaner you can

:06:02. > :06:05.command, using your smartphone. Or wearable medical devices that

:06:06. > :06:10.measure your vital signs and store the information online so you can

:06:11. > :06:15.share it with your doctor later. Or this camera that lets you see and

:06:16. > :06:18.record what is going on at home. Industry leaders say there is much

:06:19. > :06:24.room for growth, as 85% of the devices people use today are not

:06:25. > :06:30.connected. They expect that by 2020, the number of products that are

:06:31. > :06:35.connected will skyrocket from 15 billion to 50 billion. We also

:06:36. > :06:39.expect many industries to be revolutionised based on computing

:06:40. > :06:47.being rolled into the of every industry. We are interested in

:06:48. > :06:52.transportation and healthcare. But not all computer makers are trying

:06:53. > :06:58.to diversify. Dell is sticking to what it does best, desktops and

:06:59. > :07:06.laptops. Analysts say PC sales will decline by only 1% this year and had

:07:07. > :07:14.to 10% last year. `` compared to 10% last year. Companies are trying to

:07:15. > :07:23.not just win back old users but attract new ones. Whether or not

:07:24. > :07:28.they succeed remains to be seen. The aviation industry has cut its global

:07:29. > :07:32.profit forecast for 2014. Airlines are expected to make profits of $18

:07:33. > :07:42.billion per `` this year, down from 18.7 billion dollars, which it had

:07:43. > :07:46.initially forecast. It is believed economic prospects will improve as

:07:47. > :07:58.the year progresses. Tests by Malaysian authorities have found

:07:59. > :08:07.that Cadbury products do not contain pork DNA, as previously alleged. The

:08:08. > :08:12.Malaysian authorities say the boycott will only be lifted if the

:08:13. > :08:20.allegations proved to be wrong. Once the darling of foreign investment,

:08:21. > :08:25.and Gloria has seen a decline in `` Mongolia has seen a decline in

:08:26. > :08:36.foreign investments over the last 18 months. Foreign investment fell

:08:37. > :08:40.almost 50% and in a big to bring back investors, Mongolia is looking

:08:41. > :08:47.to increase the area available for mining. It could unlock $1 billion

:08:48. > :08:54.in development. Thank you for joining us. How will this all work,

:08:55. > :08:58.going forward? There is a lot of mineral wealth hidden beneath the

:08:59. > :09:07.Gobi Desert and companies around the world want to access that. It is a

:09:08. > :09:14.testament to just what sits underneath the Gobi Desert. And

:09:15. > :09:19.opening that up to foreign and domestic investors will open that

:09:20. > :09:26.up. Will the parliament in Mongolia allow this? What if they don't and

:09:27. > :09:29.just sit on it? This has been a focus for the government in Mongolia

:09:30. > :09:38.over the last few months. They have come up with a new plan. One aspect

:09:39. > :09:45.of that is removing this moratorium. And that involves the laws involving

:09:46. > :09:49.mining and energy? That is correct. A number of laws have recently been

:09:50. > :09:54.passed. One of them is a foreign investment law that provides a legal

:09:55. > :10:00.framework and a taxation framework. They are making an effort to improve

:10:01. > :10:06.the investment environment. As the cycle changes in the mining

:10:07. > :10:10.industry, we will see more of that. What does the future look like to

:10:11. > :10:15.you in Mongolia? I have been there for 17 years and there has been a

:10:16. > :10:19.good up with trend. This is a country that demands of foreign

:10:20. > :10:22.investment for the mining industry and the government recognises that

:10:23. > :10:31.has to happen and has put things in place to allow that. Looking at the

:10:32. > :10:43.Asian stock markets, now. Thank you for joining us. Goodbye for now. The

:10:44. > :10:49.headlines: European leaders have been paying tribute to King one

:10:50. > :10:51.Carlos of Spain, who is abdicating after nearly 40 years on the
