:00:19. > :00:23.rulers lay out their strategy to restore investor confidence and keep

:00:24. > :00:28.the economy moving. No catching, could this be the future of computer

:00:29. > :00:37.technology? We go to the biggest tech show in Asia to find out.

:00:38. > :00:41.Welcome to Asia Business Report. Thailand's military rulers announce

:00:42. > :00:47.a series of emergency measures aimed at averting an economic crisis. Two

:00:48. > :00:50.weeks after taking power in a military coup. 30 proposals are

:00:51. > :00:55.being discussed, including a price cut on fuel and an offer of loan

:00:56. > :00:58.guarantees for small businesses. They want to push ahead with

:00:59. > :01:02.infrastructure projects that were stalled under the ousted

:01:03. > :01:05.government. The army says it will act on a backlog of investment

:01:06. > :01:14.applications worth more than $21 billion. Jonathan Head reports.

:01:15. > :01:18.The last time the generals run this country eight years ago, their

:01:19. > :01:22.ham`fisted efforts to manage the economy were derided. This time,

:01:23. > :01:29.they have inherited a shaky economy, compounded by falling

:01:30. > :01:31.confidence, high levels of consumer debt and an unpredictable

:01:32. > :01:37.international environment. Their first measures have been

:01:38. > :01:42.crowdpleaser is. Making overdue payments to rice farmers and cutting

:01:43. > :01:46.the price of cooking gas and diesel fuel. And, the stock market and

:01:47. > :01:52.consumer confidence indices have awarded the two makers with small

:01:53. > :01:55.jumps. TRANSLATION: The new Government should attract more

:01:56. > :02:03.foreigners because right now everyone is afraid to come to

:02:04. > :02:11.Thailand. They should reduce prices of the daily needs we have, money

:02:12. > :02:15.doesn't go as far as it used to. Want immediate reassurance the

:02:16. > :02:20.military has given is to revive the huge infrastructure projects of the

:02:21. > :02:24.government it ousted. This will be one of the main terminals for a

:02:25. > :02:30.massively expanded Metro rail network for Bangkok. The military

:02:31. > :02:34.wants to push ahead with the ousted government's high`speed rail routes

:02:35. > :02:37.and introduce some version of its price support schemes for crops,

:02:38. > :02:41.which is ironic when you think the military coup supporters condemned

:02:42. > :02:47.the government policies as being irresponsible populism. The military

:02:48. > :02:52.will face the same dilemmas as the politicians in the end. How to

:02:53. > :02:55.balance being popular with being financially responsible and how to

:02:56. > :03:04.stimulate investment without also stimulating more corruption.

:03:05. > :03:07.IATA has identified 30 companies that could provide tracking systems

:03:08. > :03:12.to prevent aircraft from going missing. The aviation industry has

:03:13. > :03:18.been scrabbling for a solution since MH370 vanished in March. The body

:03:19. > :03:21.says measures to prevent it happening again could be available

:03:22. > :03:26.in four months. They need to be affordable and comprehensive. We

:03:27. > :03:37.need to fill the gaps in the non` Raid environment. `` we need to

:03:38. > :03:43.track the aircraft where it isn't under surveillance for instance, the

:03:44. > :03:47.polar regions. Their coverage over different parts of the oceanic

:03:48. > :03:50.regions, the Atlantic, the Pacific, over into all of the Indian Ocean

:03:51. > :03:55.region and then there are some regions over landmasses ``

:03:56. > :04:02.non`radar. You have areas of Russia and areas within China. The senior

:04:03. > :04:09.Vice resident for safety and flight operations at IATA. The US is

:04:10. > :04:13.slapping import duties of up to 35% on Chinese made solar panels. The

:04:14. > :04:18.new levies are set to escalate the trade war in the industry that began

:04:19. > :04:22.in 2012. The US commerce Department says solar panel components imported

:04:23. > :04:26.from China are being subsidised in a way that damages American

:04:27. > :04:31.manufacturing. It is claimed that Chinese exporters have been avoiding

:04:32. > :04:33.earlier tariffs by outsourcing the production of sales to countries

:04:34. > :04:40.like Taiwan before assembling them in China. Russia and China plan to

:04:41. > :04:42.set up a joint ratings agency to assess investment project between

:04:43. > :04:46.the countries and to make trade between them easier. The stand`off

:04:47. > :04:50.by Moscow with the west of the Ukraine has made it eager to

:04:51. > :04:55.establish institutions that would reduce its dependence on the US and

:04:56. > :04:59.Europe. Google services are disrupted in China ahead of today's

:05:00. > :05:04.anniversary of the 1989 crackdown in Tiananmen Square. In a blog by

:05:05. > :05:09.centre set watchdog rate via .org it is claimed the government has been

:05:10. > :05:14.targeting Google search engines, Gmail and other services as last

:05:15. > :05:16.week. The ruling party has been controlling public discussion of the

:05:17. > :05:23.anniversary, but some activists have been detained. Within 40 years, the

:05:24. > :05:27.world's population will grow by 2 billion people to more than 9

:05:28. > :05:30.billion. Most of us will live in cities. That means it is crucial to

:05:31. > :05:34.create systems that keep big urban centres running like clockwork with

:05:35. > :05:39.everything from transport and infrastructure to security systems.

:05:40. > :05:43.The vice president for security and transportation at the global firm,

:05:44. > :05:47.Callas, and he says talent is a romance with 3 billion cars in the

:05:48. > :05:52.world and travel expected to increase twofold. We have to do

:05:53. > :05:59.something and the challenge will be how to manage innovative services ``

:06:00. > :06:03.Thales. Cutting costs, being more green and environmentally friendly.

:06:04. > :06:08.How easy is that? None of this is unknown. Every government knows they

:06:09. > :06:13.will have to deal with the growing population. The question is, where

:06:14. > :06:19.the growth will be and making sure the services that the growth

:06:20. > :06:24.patches. Is that a complex task? No it isn't. You need to look for quick

:06:25. > :06:28.wins. What we have done in London to increase the capacity of the queue

:06:29. > :06:31.by 23%. We are doing the same in Singapore. What we have done in

:06:32. > :06:36.Brisbane to look at free float holding, with a 70 cents reduction

:06:37. > :06:43.in incidence and eight cutting journey times. `` 70%. Talking about

:06:44. > :06:52.the flow on the tube. How do you increase it? Modern technology.

:06:53. > :06:55.Signalling. We can push the trains closer together, thus putting more

:06:56. > :07:01.trains on the track and improving capacity. Less waiting time at

:07:02. > :07:04.stations. What is the city at the future going to look like? Will it

:07:05. > :07:11.be different from what we know a city to be like today? Absolutely.

:07:12. > :07:14.With that rate of growth. We need to concentrate on connecting the modes

:07:15. > :07:18.of transport we already have. Looking at the data that comes from

:07:19. > :07:27.the systems also. Using that data in intelligent ways. Ensuring we can

:07:28. > :07:31.connect to services. For a citizen, assuming he or she is getting a

:07:32. > :07:35.seamless journey, a personalised journey. More to the point, getting

:07:36. > :07:40.a journey. That is the biggest challenge. Making sure everyone can

:07:41. > :07:46.get to where they need to go Stoneville it with the choice that

:07:47. > :07:50.they won't. Rating news, first`quarter GDP numbers from

:07:51. > :07:53.Australia come into 1.1% of the quarter, 3.5% of the year and that

:07:54. > :07:58.is a little better most economists expected. Is there something you

:07:59. > :08:03.would like your computer you to do that it cannot now do? There is a

:08:04. > :08:07.myriad of innovations on display in Taiwan at Asia's biggest computer

:08:08. > :08:13.and technology show, Computex. Our correspondent takes a look at their

:08:14. > :08:16.gadgets. We are getting a glimpse of the latest trends in technology.

:08:17. > :08:21.They will shape this industry in the coming months. These technologies

:08:22. > :08:32.don't apply only to the office, but the home environment also. With me

:08:33. > :08:38.is Sanjoy. We have a three D camera. We have embedded into the notebook

:08:39. > :08:41.and it has a great advantage. We are sitting in the bedroom and I want to

:08:42. > :08:46.have a meeting, but I don't want everyone to see my bedroom. So,

:08:47. > :08:50.using this technology, I can extract the background and replace it with

:08:51. > :08:54.my work. And, no one can see your messy bed or your kids or anything.

:08:55. > :09:02.In exactly. Tell us what we have here. Lets you are in the kitchen

:09:03. > :09:07.and your cooking and you don't want to do to your computer. What I am

:09:08. > :09:11.going to do is walk up to the computer, put my head in front of it

:09:12. > :09:18.and then, I can move the screen around using my hand. I can pick and

:09:19. > :09:21.menu, open my hand and all of a sudden it will open the page and

:09:22. > :09:26.take me there. White without touching the screen. Yes. I don't

:09:27. > :09:31.have to deal with getting the computer dirty. I can't stand so

:09:32. > :09:37.many cables and wires, do you have a solution? We do we have Intel

:09:38. > :09:40.wireless charging. You can put down a notebook or a tablet or phone on a

:09:41. > :09:49.table like this and it will start charging automatically. This is no

:09:50. > :09:52.ordinary table, is it? We have taken a regular table and put coils on the

:09:53. > :09:57.bottom of it. We have designed a kit that will allow anyone to do that.

:09:58. > :10:00.If you have a wireless charging notebook or a tablet or phone, you

:10:01. > :10:05.can put it on and it will charge those devices as soon as you put it

:10:06. > :10:11.on. I can show you the example of what it does. If you look at the

:10:12. > :10:14.table, it has created a... It is lighting the lights where the charge

:10:15. > :10:20.is quite so you can see where the charge is happening. Just three of a

:10:21. > :10:24.vast array of products that reflect a growing trend of making technology

:10:25. > :10:32.user`friendly and practical for consumers.

:10:33. > :10:36.Now, a quick look at the market. They have opened without much

:10:37. > :10:40.change. Not much of a lead from Wall Street which was marginally weaker

:10:41. > :10:47.overnight. The Nikkei is down. That is it for this addition of Asia

:10:48. > :10:53.Business Report. I'm Mike Embley. The top stories
