:00:07. > :00:17.latest business news live from Singapore. Police in Asia are

:00:18. > :00:29.cracking down on illegal betting on the eve of the World Cup kick`off in

:00:30. > :00:34.Brazil. And, game changer? Nintendo counts on toys to turn its fortunes

:00:35. > :00:38.around. Welcome to the programme, days ahead of the start of the World

:00:39. > :00:42.Cup in Brazil, police in China, Thailand and Singapore have begun

:00:43. > :00:52.targeting illegal football betting. It is an enormous market globally.

:00:53. > :00:56.The International Centre for support security estimates $680 billion a

:00:57. > :00:59.year is gambled. Over 80% of those wages are made through legal

:01:00. > :01:04.channels. Asia accounts for more than half of that illegal market

:01:05. > :01:10.worldwide. From Hong Kong, our correspondent reports on efforts to

:01:11. > :01:19.stamp out the trade. Kicking off a new campaign. Ahead of

:01:20. > :01:21.the World Cup in Brazil, these young dancers are fronting a

:01:22. > :01:27.government`sponsored movement urging the public not to gamble on football

:01:28. > :01:32.matches. The World Cup is about sportsmanship, it is about scales,

:01:33. > :01:37.`` skills. It is about football stars, they are not running around

:01:38. > :01:42.to make money for you. But, for Hong Kong's many punters, about 60% of

:01:43. > :01:45.the population the upcoming competition is the most exciting

:01:46. > :01:50.opportunity in the world. The only legal way to gamble here is that the

:01:51. > :01:55.Jockey club. It collected 6.5 billion US dollars in revenue from

:01:56. > :01:58.football betting last year. Unofficial channels, like this

:01:59. > :02:02.website, are believed to make several times that amount. They

:02:03. > :02:09.offer easy access and lots of credit. They have been targeted by

:02:10. > :02:13.law enforcement. This week, police in Hong Kong seized millions of

:02:14. > :02:18.dollars in cash, and detained 29 people were running an allegedly

:02:19. > :02:21.illegal online betting syndicate. About $100 million had already been

:02:22. > :02:28.wagered. Mostly on World Cup matches. TRANSLATION: According to

:02:29. > :02:34.what we have confiscated, and our records, this is an unprecedented

:02:35. > :02:37.and extremely large illegal but `` illegal betting ring. It is

:02:38. > :02:42.difficult to estimate the size of the illegal football betting market.

:02:43. > :02:47.Here in Hong Kong and the rest of China. Some believe it could be in

:02:48. > :02:55.the hundreds of billions of dollars. For the people affected, the

:02:56. > :02:59.real`life impact is unquantifiable. Deeply in debt, this man quit

:03:00. > :03:03.gambling five years ago, and joined a church support group. That was

:03:04. > :03:08.after his wife threatened divorce. He explains why he was panting, for

:03:09. > :03:18.more than four decades. TRANSLATION: For me, I loved football ``punting.

:03:19. > :03:22.It added to the excitement. My best was when my team won, and I want.

:03:23. > :03:26.Winning on the field is more healthy, safe antigambling

:03:27. > :03:30.activists, and they will campaign for two more weeks, to convince the

:03:31. > :03:37.come `` to convince the public that it is a sporting, not a betting

:03:38. > :03:41.event. The World Bank has revised down its forecast for economic

:03:42. > :03:47.growth in the developing world this year. Down to 2.8%, below the

:03:48. > :03:51.forecast of 3.2%. If correct, it is the third consecutive year of growth

:03:52. > :03:54.below 5% in these countries. The bank says that developing nations,

:03:55. > :03:59.like India, need to make economic reforms that provoked growth, but

:04:00. > :04:05.the report predicts growth will speed up in 2014 `` promote growth.

:04:06. > :04:14.Indonesia could more than double its rice imports this year, took a meat

:04:15. > :04:21.`` to keep the prices down. The economy once a rise in prices ahead

:04:22. > :04:26.of the elections next month, and the looming weather system. It would be

:04:27. > :04:34.good news for growers in Thailand, and Vietnam. Google is buying

:04:35. > :04:37.satellite companies for half $1 billion. The technology giant says

:04:38. > :04:45.the deal is aimed at keeping the maps accurate and could help to

:04:46. > :04:51.expand Internet access. Satellites use a resolution that can see single

:04:52. > :04:56.cars along a road. It is their second acquisition year, after it

:04:57. > :05:01.bought a solar powered drone maker. That was in April. Virtually every

:05:02. > :05:06.media and entertainment business today has a digital strategy to try

:05:07. > :05:10.to get to the consumer where ever they are. In a new report,

:05:11. > :05:16.PricewaterhouseCoopers favour by 2018, one third of advertising

:05:17. > :05:21.revenue across the world, that will be digital, but only 70% of consumer

:05:22. > :05:27.revenues will come from digitally delivered content like music, videos

:05:28. > :05:32.and games. How can they make money from the digital consumer? These

:05:33. > :05:35.days, it is impossible to escape from advertising, as you can see,

:05:36. > :05:39.from the big television screen behind me in the heart of Singapore

:05:40. > :05:42.'s financial district. Five years ago, television advertising was more

:05:43. > :05:47.than double that of Internet advertising, and according to a new

:05:48. > :05:53.report, that is set to change. I am joined by Greg Unsworth from

:05:54. > :05:57.PricewaterhouseCoopers. How is the world going digital? It is amazing

:05:58. > :06:03.what is going on at the moment, enabled by smart house `` smartphone

:06:04. > :06:08.devices, the whole world is going digital. We can see a large bulk of

:06:09. > :06:10.growth will be digitally driven. That creates challenges for

:06:11. > :06:14.traditional players and opportunities for new entrants. In

:06:15. > :06:20.my hand, I have two hardcopy newspapers, some say they are a

:06:21. > :06:23.dying breed. Most people now consume information on smart phones and

:06:24. > :06:26.tablets. Media companies are now trying to monetise their products

:06:27. > :06:32.online. How successful have they been? There is progress being made,

:06:33. > :06:40.there is some successful models of online distribution of newspaper

:06:41. > :06:44.content. It is a balance of those companies to protect their

:06:45. > :06:47.traditional core, while they develop their digital engagement with

:06:48. > :06:55.consumers as well. How do you monetise the digital customer? There

:06:56. > :06:59.are a few things, like trying to understand that with digital, you

:07:00. > :07:01.can target different members of the community more effectively. We can

:07:02. > :07:06.see examples of that in different markets. That is what digital

:07:07. > :07:10.advertising is expected to reach the size of television advertising in

:07:11. > :07:13.the next five years globally. Thank you very much. As we can see, most

:07:14. > :07:18.companies are moving their resources to the online world. Whether they

:07:19. > :07:24.are able to make money from that, that still remains to be seen.

:07:25. > :07:31.Nintendo is focusing its efforts on familiar franchises. Kid friendly

:07:32. > :07:35.content. Can toys and figurines be the best way forward for a Japanese

:07:36. > :07:40.gaming giant, after it missed its own sales targets last year? Our

:07:41. > :07:45.correspondent reports from East three, the world 's largest video

:07:46. > :07:51.gaming fare in Los Angeles. `` E3. Nintendo came here, needing to

:07:52. > :07:55.revive its flagging fortunes. The gaming giant is just that, gaming

:07:56. > :08:01.giant. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, it has nothing to fall on. Sales of

:08:02. > :08:06.their latest console have done very well. Over the last few years, it

:08:07. > :08:09.has done well. It announced a figurine that could help to bring

:08:10. > :08:15.the real world and physical world. David is from Nintendo here. Explain

:08:16. > :08:21.what the figurine system is? They are little characters, your

:08:22. > :08:25.favourite Nintendo characters. They didn't `` Nintendo is all about

:08:26. > :08:30.reinvention, we keep doing that. But here, we keep reinventing something

:08:31. > :08:34.for our system. It can interact with the games in brand`new ways. You can

:08:35. > :08:40.take it, and place it on your game pad, and it exchanges information.

:08:41. > :08:45.For example, for one of our games, we announced that this would be a

:08:46. > :08:49.fighter, like your partner. Or a bridle, it can be used in different

:08:50. > :08:56.ways. With your character, it build up the statistics and interact

:08:57. > :09:03.with it. We are holiday season. You spoke of the

:09:04. > :09:07.reinvention of different ideas, but this idea is pretty similar to one

:09:08. > :09:12.in place by companies like Disney. It is not a real reinvention, is it?

:09:13. > :09:18.We see some toys going on. We do it differently, like everything. We are

:09:19. > :09:22.doing it our way. What separates us from different things that we have

:09:23. > :09:25.seen before, you will be using this as the game across multiple

:09:26. > :09:31.platforms. We announced during our games, that at the beginning of next

:09:32. > :09:38.year, we will create a portal, so you can use it with your latest

:09:39. > :09:42.console. It can be used throughout different Nintendo properties, and

:09:43. > :09:46.these are some of your fan favourite games that people love. Nintendo are

:09:47. > :09:52.definitely needing a shot in the arm for its console, we will see if it

:09:53. > :09:59.delivers. For more on the games fair at Los Angeles, check out our E3

:10:00. > :10:05.page on the BBC website. Before we go, here a quick look at the Asian
