:00:00. > :00:00.was rejected by members earlier this week. More from hours later, but

:00:00. > :00:12.first we have all of the business news with the Asia Business Report.

:00:13. > :00:24.The effects of a plunging currency reverberates across Asia. Juggling

:00:25. > :00:34.several jobs with family, how does this celebrity doctor do it?

:00:35. > :00:47.Welcomed the Asia Business Report. The vote to Leave the European Union

:00:48. > :00:48.is affecting many areas in the UK. Let's take a look at the pressure

:00:49. > :01:45.this is happening on the sterling -- Let's take a look at how all of that

:01:46. > :01:48.is impacting us here in Asia. Most currencies here have been affected,

:01:49. > :01:54.including the Japanese yen, which has climbed in value, hurting

:01:55. > :02:01.exporters. At the same time, the Indonesian currency has fallen, as

:02:02. > :02:10.well as the Chinese and Korean dollars. There are several layers to

:02:11. > :02:18.what's going on, but primarily, risk aversion is being created with the

:02:19. > :02:26.wrecks it. It is playing into the hand of the yen, using that as a

:02:27. > :02:29.defence Hege against the volatility of Europe. You are also seeing the

:02:30. > :02:37.negative impact of the stronger dollar, another safe haven currency.

:02:38. > :02:46.Currencies such as the Indonesian and Malaysian currencies are seeing

:02:47. > :02:51.the effects. The Japanese yen is seen as a safe haven, but Japanese

:02:52. > :02:55.officials don't like the fact it is strengthening and have insinuated

:02:56. > :03:00.they will intervene to weaken it. Yesterday, Chinese authorities said

:03:01. > :03:05.the currency at its lowest rate against the US dollar. So banks are

:03:06. > :03:12.paying very close attention. How does this affect trading partners?

:03:13. > :03:16.China is very concerned about their export market, it appears they are

:03:17. > :03:21.intentionally allowing the currency to weaken as a defence mechanism. As

:03:22. > :03:27.a defence against regional competition as well. In Japan, it is

:03:28. > :03:30.worrying, because as the yen gets stronger it impacts the stock

:03:31. > :03:36.market. The central banks are very concerned about this. They have made

:03:37. > :03:43.intervention threats. But nothing has actually come through. Even when

:03:44. > :03:48.the dollar and the yen dropped below 100, there was no intervention. The

:03:49. > :03:52.markets are sitting back and waiting for the stimulus measures coming out

:03:53. > :03:57.Japan to see how they will react. So I think there is this idea of

:03:58. > :04:04.protection, and we will see what Japan comes out with. They will

:04:05. > :04:13.consult with the government fiscal programme. There are hopes that

:04:14. > :04:17.there will be a lot more central bank interventions across the world.

:04:18. > :04:23.There are concerns about Hong Kong's economy? The Hong Kong economy,

:04:24. > :04:31.given its close links with the mainland economy, we are seeing

:04:32. > :04:34.global economic headway is... With the Brexit fallout, there is a

:04:35. > :04:44.perception that could be additional headwinds. By proximity and their

:04:45. > :04:52.mutual exports, there should be some way off for the Hong Kong market is.

:04:53. > :04:56.In other news, Samsung has flagged a better than expected performance for

:04:57. > :05:02.the second quarter next to cost-cutting and sales of its latest

:05:03. > :05:10.smartphone. The company is forecasting an operating profit of

:05:11. > :05:14.$7 billion, a 17% jump from the same period a year earlier. The company

:05:15. > :05:20.will post a detailed quarterly report card at the end of the month.

:05:21. > :05:23.The UK's vote to Leave the EU is prompting many European companies to

:05:24. > :05:31.rethink their corporate strategies. That is making Asia look far more

:05:32. > :05:35.attractive as a potential hub. Food handler operates in a number of

:05:36. > :05:38.European cities and has its headquarters in Berlin. I spoke to

:05:39. > :05:46.the CEO and asked about the impact of the Brexit. It is one out of many

:05:47. > :05:53.recent events that could foster more thoughts of separation. This might

:05:54. > :06:00.have an impact on the attractiveness for employees to come to Europe and

:06:01. > :06:09.for Europe as a hub for companies and fostering entrepreneurship.

:06:10. > :06:13.Other companies want to attract investments, and we believe many of

:06:14. > :06:18.the Southeast Asian countries all countries such as Russia may take

:06:19. > :06:22.advantage of this attract people and foreign investment. What would be

:06:23. > :06:28.bottom line that would prompt you to move your headquarters out of

:06:29. > :06:38.Europe? I think if the trends continue of intolerance and...

:06:39. > :06:43.Uncertain regions of... An increase in racism to an extent, a lack of

:06:44. > :06:47.respect for foreign cultures, I think all of that will make it more

:06:48. > :06:51.difficult for us going forward to attract talent that we need to

:06:52. > :07:00.recruit from abroad. If the EU doesn't do enough to attract foreign

:07:01. > :07:05.employees and create a positive environment, it would be a pragmatic

:07:06. > :07:10.decision to say we will move to a city or country where there is a

:07:11. > :07:16.different structure, a different political environment for getting

:07:17. > :07:22.access to highly qualified employees. Most of us, the local

:07:23. > :07:29.doctor is a person we see when we are sick. But in the case of one

:07:30. > :07:32.Australian GP, she is a doctor, celebrity, consultant and writer. We

:07:33. > :07:38.have been finding out how people landed there dream jobs, and we

:07:39. > :07:42.asked this doctor how she became a celebrity doctor.

:07:43. > :07:49.I have wound up with this crazy career that involves teaching, I

:07:50. > :07:55.teach at a university, I harassed a pod cast for doctors, I am a

:07:56. > :08:00.television doctor, I am still a columnist for about four magazines,

:08:01. > :08:04.I am a consultant, a speaker, a board director and I own my own

:08:05. > :08:10.company with my husband. We create anti-ageing skincare. A Finnish

:08:11. > :08:16.school, went to university, I was doing very well in medicine. Then I

:08:17. > :08:22.had children, like many other women. I came across... I couldn't get to

:08:23. > :08:26.work because my children were permanently sick. I was thinking, I

:08:27. > :08:31.have to do something else, because this is impossible. I went back and

:08:32. > :08:36.did journalism. I was writing, everything was going fine. And then,

:08:37. > :08:43.sadly, I got divorced. That was quite a big trauma in every way. One

:08:44. > :08:48.big way was that I needed to earn a lot of money, and I wasn't going to

:08:49. > :08:53.earn it doing what I was doing. I saw an ad in the financial review

:08:54. > :08:59.that said, experience with media and health, and I was like, I do media,

:09:00. > :09:03.I do help. I got on the phone and the guy said, this job is not really

:09:04. > :09:13.for a mother. It is too full and. And I was like, really? I pressed

:09:14. > :09:19.send on my CV. It took me a long time to get the confidence to do

:09:20. > :09:26.consulting, then I started doing it more frequently -- full-on. In 2012,

:09:27. > :09:30.we started an evidence -based anti-ageing skin-care range. We seen

:09:31. > :09:33.so many small businesses run ahead of themselves because they have

:09:34. > :09:39.these great ideas, they rush to quickly into the next phase and port

:09:40. > :09:44.their cash flow. We've been very careful to retain every aspect of

:09:45. > :09:47.our brand by making sure we never ever squeezed our cash flow. Four

:09:48. > :09:52.years later, it is going gangbusters. I was in the right

:09:53. > :09:58.place at the right time, I am very lucky. That has probably accounted

:09:59. > :10:02.for 90% of what I do. I have a huge amount of energy, which is very

:10:03. > :10:08.lucky for me. I don't get tired. I am an enthusiast, I naturally really

:10:09. > :10:10.like people. Every opportunity that comes my way, I feel so blessed that

:10:11. > :10:14.that happened to me. Taking a look at the markets before

:10:15. > :10:27.we go. We are seeing gains in Australia due

:10:28. > :10:32.to Wall Street rising yesterday. That is all for this addition of

:10:33. > :10:42.Asia Business Report.
