:00:14. > :00:22.The flying kangaroo takes off. Qantas posts record earnings

:00:23. > :00:26.results. And clean your room. What is a chore to most people has turned

:00:27. > :00:39.into a dream job for one lady from Shanghai. Good morning Asia, hello

:00:40. > :00:46.world. Glad you could join us for this Thursday edition of Asia

:00:47. > :00:49.Business Report. I am Rico Hizon. Australia's national carrier,

:00:50. > :00:55.Qantas, has just posted record numbers. The national carrier saw

:00:56. > :00:59.1.08 billion US dollars, that is nearly double last year's profit,

:01:00. > :01:03.and for the first time in seven years that airline will pay a

:01:04. > :01:07.dividend to shareholders. It is a huge turnaround from just a few

:01:08. > :01:10.years ago when it posted record losses. He was a quick reminder of

:01:11. > :02:08.its turbulent past few years -- here is a quick reminder.

:02:09. > :02:16.For more on those record results I spoke with the editor-in-chief of

:02:17. > :02:21.Airline Ratings .com. He joined us via webcam from Perth. They have had

:02:22. > :02:24.a dramatic turnaround so is the sickening losses of a few years ago

:02:25. > :02:30.and they have re- Jeet the whole airline with about 250 initiatives

:02:31. > :02:37.which have come through to the bottom line -- rejigged. Permanent

:02:38. > :02:45.savings of about $1.66 billion, plus of course they have hedged the fuel

:02:46. > :02:48.the right way and have had a $640 million gain from that which they

:02:49. > :02:53.have passed on in lower air fares and also passed on into the bottom

:02:54. > :02:59.line as well. So they appear to have got the airline on the right flight

:03:00. > :03:03.path, and increased the efficiency dramatically of the airline and got

:03:04. > :03:08.rid of some of the legacy things that were dragging it down. So is it

:03:09. > :03:16.fair to give full credit for these record numbers to chief executive

:03:17. > :03:21.Alan Joyce? Look, I do believe it is. I mean, two or three years ago

:03:22. > :03:24.the unions in Australia were calling for his head, and certainly the

:03:25. > :03:30.airline was going through a lot of turbulence. At I think Alan would

:03:31. > :03:37.say he was the messenger, the staff had suddenly believed the message.

:03:38. > :03:41.He kept repeating that message of what they had to do, and slowly at

:03:42. > :03:45.first and then with far greater momentum, the staff got on board to

:03:46. > :03:52.the joyous message and turned their back on the union's hard-line --

:03:53. > :03:56.Alan Joyce message. And all of a sudden when you have 20,000 or

:03:57. > :04:03.30,000 people working for you and not against you, the transformation

:04:04. > :04:07.is dramatic. And this I think we'll go down as one of those Harvard

:04:08. > :04:13.textbook cases of how to turn an airline around. A Chinese real

:04:14. > :04:19.estate and airline conglomerate expects to seal $2 billion worth of

:04:20. > :04:25.deals in the US this year according to its chairman. China's richest man

:04:26. > :04:34.says his next target would be a major movie studio. He says the goal

:04:35. > :04:37.is to bring the capability to China. TRANSLATION: Only six are real

:04:38. > :04:44.global film companies, while the rest are not so if we are to build a

:04:45. > :04:46.real movie empire this is a necessary step. There are two main

:04:47. > :04:52.industries we are interested in, entertainment and athletics. To

:04:53. > :04:55.merge and acquire and entertainment and athletics company are our main

:04:56. > :04:59.objectives. If the target company fits our appetite there is no limit

:05:00. > :05:03.to the Budget. Most of the money invested in China and even the

:05:04. > :05:07.global film in industry is silly money. Only a little bit is smart

:05:08. > :05:13.money. When investors see the industry getting hot they all swarm

:05:14. > :05:16.around it. Wang Jianlin. The mining industry has been in a bit of a

:05:17. > :05:22.slump this year due to slowing demand from China. BHP Billiton just

:05:23. > :05:25.posted a big loss of more than $6 million, but it could be a different

:05:26. > :05:33.story for their Swiss rival Glenn Corps. The commodities market has

:05:34. > :05:38.business going beyond mining and metals -- Glencore. Earlier I spoke

:05:39. > :05:44.with David Lennox, joining us via webcam from Sydney. With profit

:05:45. > :05:49.between zero and 400 million, that compares the consensus of 430

:05:50. > :05:53.million and also a half-year result of 800 million for 2015. So overall

:05:54. > :05:58.we do expect to see the direct mining operations actually

:05:59. > :06:04.contributing zero results, and the agribusiness will, we believe, be

:06:05. > :06:08.relatively profitable. These numbers, though, could have been

:06:09. > :06:13.padded if Glencore had been able to unload over the past year its copper

:06:14. > :06:17.mine asset in New South Wales and its goldmine in Kazakhstan.

:06:18. > :06:22.Unfortunately they have been having a difficult time finding buyers.

:06:23. > :06:26.Look, they have. Gold is actually a little bit of a surprise given that

:06:27. > :06:31.we have seen that increase in the gold price. We thought that may have

:06:32. > :06:34.attracted a buyer to that particular goldmine and of course, copper side

:06:35. > :06:42.the price has really not done a lot. And we would expect to find it a bit

:06:43. > :06:46.harder to come by. Overall, with those sales not being completed

:06:47. > :06:49.inside the half we do expect to see the company's balance sheet remained

:06:50. > :06:57.somewhat constrained through the reporting of results. David Lennox

:06:58. > :07:02.in Sydney. Being a professional home organiser might not seem like the

:07:03. > :07:06.most exciting job, but this woman describes her work is beautiful. She

:07:07. > :07:11.left behind her top job as a lawyer in Shanghai to follow her dreams of

:07:12. > :07:15.cleaning up people's homes, ridding them of hoarding tendencies and

:07:16. > :07:24.helping them to create a calm and tranquil place. She tells us why at

:07:25. > :07:27.home organising is her dream job. TRANSLATION: Home organising is

:07:28. > :07:38.about balancing the relationship between people, things, and space.

:07:39. > :07:45.It is about helping clients categorise their belongings, to give

:07:46. > :07:50.them a clear mind and improve their quality of life. One day I walked

:07:51. > :07:55.past my landlord's room. It was so messy that I wanted to jump in and

:07:56. > :07:58.get his room cleaned right away. The quality of our life has improved a

:07:59. > :08:02.lot over the years but for many their living space is still a mess.

:08:03. > :08:14.So that is why I decided to become a home organiser. The Chinese are very

:08:15. > :08:20.nostalgic. We collect all kinds of things. Stuff people love to record

:08:21. > :08:29.our clothes which haven't been warned for a long time and many

:08:30. > :08:33.unexpected things such as tea -- hoard are clothes. We advocate

:08:34. > :08:39.thriftiness and many of us love to give gifts, which people find hard

:08:40. > :08:43.to throw away or recycled. I think hoarding and collecting are two

:08:44. > :08:52.different things. Hoarding his subconscious. -- is subconscious.

:08:53. > :08:56.You don't consider the value of the things you collect, it is usually

:08:57. > :09:02.the result of feeling insecure. Many families like having big furniture.

:09:03. > :09:07.Even when their homes are small. Often their houses become very

:09:08. > :09:14.cramped. Before they come to realise that the value of space is higher

:09:15. > :09:20.than the value of things. My job is to inspire people to tidy up. My

:09:21. > :09:24.goal is to gather all home organiser is in China and start a real

:09:25. > :09:39.industry here, that involves more people who are passionate. A very

:09:40. > :09:45.interesting dream job there. And before we go, here is a look now at

:09:46. > :09:52.the regional markets and Asia is currently getting a lift. As you can

:09:53. > :09:56.see the Nikkei 225 up by 140 points and the All Ordinaries gaining about

:09:57. > :09:59.seven points this hour, this is after the US posted modest gains

:10:00. > :10:02.overnight led by the home building sector following a big jump in the

:10:03. > :10:08.sales of new homes last month. The Dow gained 18 point and the NASDAQ

:10:09. > :10:13.in positive territory by 15.5 points. Let's have a quick look at

:10:14. > :10:17.the currency markets, and the dollar sliding against the Japanese yen as

:10:18. > :10:28.investors await a key speech on Friday at the Fed chairman, Janet

:10:29. > :10:35.Yellen. The dollar yen rate at 100.40 five. Thank you for investing

:10:36. > :10:40.your time with us. I am Rico Hizon. Sport Today is up next.
