:00:17. > :00:25.Apple's new iPhone - we get our hands on it and ask, has the market

:00:26. > :00:31.hit saturation point? And not to be outdone, Japan's Sony offers art and

:00:32. > :00:33.to its popular PlayStation game console -- upgrade.

:00:34. > :00:40.Glad you could join us for this edition of Asia Business Report.

:00:41. > :00:55.Well, the talk of the technology town is the Apple iPhone 7 but the

:00:56. > :01:01.big question is - what?! No iPhone Jack? As expected, the company has

:01:02. > :01:07.ditched the headphones. So, will it be a winner for Apple, or a gamble

:01:08. > :01:12.too far? Dave Lee in San Francisco was one of the first to get his

:01:13. > :01:17.hands on one of the latest Apple gadget. So, here we have it, the new

:01:18. > :01:21.iPhone 7. This is in jet black colour, one of the new colours and

:01:22. > :01:26.there is a couple of improvements, a better camera, it stabilises the way

:01:27. > :01:30.it didn't before, but the meeting everyone will notice is that for the

:01:31. > :01:35.first time you will notice there is no headphones act on the device.

:01:36. > :01:39.This has made it easier for them to make it more water resistant and

:01:40. > :01:45.dust resistant but, of course, there is no where to stick your head

:01:46. > :01:48.phones. So you can put headphones into the lightning port, which you

:01:49. > :01:53.might have used to charge your phone in the past. You can buy them to go

:01:54. > :01:56.directly into it. Or there is an adaptor that can change it normal

:01:57. > :02:01.headphones to go in there as well. It is a little bit ugly but it

:02:02. > :02:07.doesn't look great. And Apple wants you to buy these, I will put this

:02:08. > :02:11.down for a moment, these are the new wireless Air Pods, which look like

:02:12. > :02:17.the old earphones but without wires and they just pop into your ears and

:02:18. > :02:21.they connect directly to your phone. In the way they promised - it is

:02:22. > :02:25.simpler than Bluetooth. I don't know about you, I find Bluetooth

:02:26. > :02:30.difficult. These will retail at a which I think puts them a bit at

:02:31. > :02:35.risk of someone coming up to you and pinching them straight out of UE.

:02:36. > :02:41.Well, Apple faces stiff competition with the iPhone market -- smartphone

:02:42. > :02:45.market -- your ear. Samsung is the leader of the park with a 23% market

:02:46. > :02:55.share. Apple is second -- pack. And a distant third is Huawei with 8%

:02:56. > :03:02.and together they account for less than half of the market. I asked

:03:03. > :03:06.Jake Saunders if this iPhone will help Apple gain a big slice of the

:03:07. > :03:14.market. The big part of it is to make it more waterproof, although it

:03:15. > :03:21.is more splashproof, so it is IP67 versus IP68. It is creating more

:03:22. > :03:26.seal and they just want clean lines. Steve Jobs always wanted simplicity

:03:27. > :03:32.at the extreme. Do you think that Asian consumers will be able to

:03:33. > :03:35.adapt quickly to this new kind of wireless technology, and Bluetooth,

:03:36. > :03:40.which is being introduced with the iPhone 7? The top end, aspirational

:03:41. > :03:45.consumers will purchase it and it will go down, and as vendor is come

:03:46. > :03:50.in the price will go down to $70, probably within one or two years at

:03:51. > :03:52.the very earliest. And they will continue to innovate. It will

:03:53. > :03:57.eventually become commodity price. Week after week, month after month

:03:58. > :04:03.we have new products on the smartphone market - have we already

:04:04. > :04:06.reached saturation point? It is certainly very saturated. The

:04:07. > :04:11.smartphone market will still grow to about 2.2 billion in from the 21. A

:04:12. > :04:15.lot of that additional growth will come out of emerging markets,

:04:16. > :04:22.Africa, the Middle East, South America -- from 2021. They write now

:04:23. > :04:28.have the sort of C series of phones. It is a brutal space. The other

:04:29. > :04:38.smartphone guys like Hauwei are trying to go up -- right. They have

:04:39. > :04:45.the P9, and they have the Honour series. What about Samsung, they

:04:46. > :04:50.lead the market but they had to recall their Note 7 - will this hurt

:04:51. > :04:55.market share? They have 23% of the market, apple has 15% of the market.

:04:56. > :04:59.So, Samsung is still the dominant player. They're very wise, they

:05:00. > :05:04.didn't let it become a big issue with consumers. I mean, I think they

:05:05. > :05:09.sold about 15 million or so of the Note and there has only been a fuse

:05:10. > :05:12.sort of hundred or so, it is still fairly shocking - who wants your

:05:13. > :05:18.phone suddenly exploding into fire? -- few sort. They have contained it.

:05:19. > :05:23.It has happened to other vendors, so it is unfortunate but they have

:05:24. > :05:30.addressed it. That was Jake Saunders of ABI Research on the iPhone 7. It

:05:31. > :05:34.is a done deal, the merger of two technology heavyweights finally

:05:35. > :05:40.complete. The merge between US computer giant Dell and Cloud

:05:41. > :05:45.Computing provider EMC is one of the biggest ever technology mergers. The

:05:46. > :05:53.pricetag, a whopping $67 billion US, that is much bigger than Microsoft's

:05:54. > :05:57.recent purchase of link in at $26 billion US or Facebook's $19 billion

:05:58. > :06:01.purchase of WhatsApp, so what will the merger mean for the new

:06:02. > :06:07.technology family and its customers? Let's get some and so is from David

:06:08. > :06:09.Webster, the leader of the enterprise business for the

:06:10. > :06:14.Asia-Pacific region. Thank you for joining us, David. First of all,

:06:15. > :06:18.everybody wants to know, $67 billion between Dell and EMC - what will it

:06:19. > :06:22.mean for your customers? If we look across Asia, our customers are

:06:23. > :06:27.facing a common challenge, that is how do they change their business to

:06:28. > :06:31.become more digital? And how do they of all their business to be more

:06:32. > :06:36.competitive? Their combination of Dell and EMC brings to the market

:06:37. > :06:41.and opportunity for our customers to leverage technology into three key

:06:42. > :06:44.areas of data, data management, security, protecting the

:06:45. > :06:48.environment, transforming their workplace and how they think about

:06:49. > :06:51.transforming IT, so tremendous opportunity for customers in every

:06:52. > :06:54.part of the world including every country in Asia to take advantage of

:06:55. > :07:00.the combined entity. It is about digital transformation. But in a

:07:01. > :07:06.slowing global economy, our companies willing to spend more, or

:07:07. > :07:09.are they holding back? Companies are spending more -- are. They are

:07:10. > :07:15.spending money to reduce money, they are optimising. Their they are

:07:16. > :07:20.freeing up money to create cloud native infrastructures -- they are

:07:21. > :07:25.freeing up money. Moving spending to the new is allowing companies across

:07:26. > :07:30.Asia to take advantage of the digital opportunity. This is now a

:07:31. > :07:35.massive company - how are you dealing, or how are you

:07:36. > :07:39.complementing the challenge of the disrupters? It is really

:07:40. > :07:43.interesting, when you look at both companies when a complimentary in

:07:44. > :07:46.how we come together with products and technology. Our culture is

:07:47. > :07:50.similar, we have a centre of gravity for both companies, our customer is

:07:51. > :07:54.number one, and what we do for our customer, so when we think of the

:07:55. > :07:57.digital disrupters and the challenges, we think that having a

:07:58. > :08:03.solution set that goes from the edge to the core to the cloud allows

:08:04. > :08:07.companies in Asia to be able to deal with digital disruption - we give

:08:08. > :08:10.them the end-to-end scale which will be really important. Businesses in

:08:11. > :08:14.Asia don't think about business just in Asia but about business globally

:08:15. > :08:18.and global business is a scale business. What about here in the

:08:19. > :08:24.Asia-Pacific region, which particular countries are offering up

:08:25. > :08:27.more business for Dell EMC? We have seen growth across every geography

:08:28. > :08:32.in Asia. You haven't felt the slowdown in China? We see slowdown

:08:33. > :08:37.and growth in all geographies. Some industry sectors are up, some

:08:38. > :08:41.industry sectors are down, which is traditional in IT. We think there is

:08:42. > :08:45.opportunity across every geography and we think that the combination

:08:46. > :08:51.will enable that growth to be accelerated. Thank you so much for

:08:52. > :08:58.joining us, David Webster, and good luck with the consolidation. Well,

:08:59. > :09:02.it is a big day as well for Japan's Sony Corporation. The firm has

:09:03. > :09:06.launched the latest version of the console the PlayStation. Earlier, I

:09:07. > :09:13.spoke with our correspondent who was at the launch in New York and asked

:09:14. > :09:17.if this console will be a hit. Certainly it hopes it will be, a lot

:09:18. > :09:23.is resting on the PlayStation and today as you mention this event was

:09:24. > :09:28.here, competing as you know with the Apple event, which was on at the

:09:29. > :09:31.same time on the other side of the country. Executives came out on

:09:32. > :09:40.stage and unveiled two PlayStations, which was expected, the PS4, slimmed

:09:41. > :09:44.down and skinnier if you like, and then the PS4 Pro, which many have

:09:45. > :09:51.read about in the press, calling it Neo. This one is 4K, high dynamic

:09:52. > :09:56.range capabilities, in simple terms it means the graphic capability is

:09:57. > :10:00.better and, even if you are not biting the PS4 Pro, you will still

:10:01. > :10:04.be able to get some of the benefits, because putting out the firmware

:10:05. > :10:09.means that even the PS4 for the early adopters can still get HDR on

:10:10. > :10:13.their machine. The reason Sony is doing it as one executive told me is

:10:14. > :10:18.to future proof the company. They know that many people still don't

:10:19. > :10:22.own a 4K TV but they hope this will keep them up to date and ahead of

:10:23. > :10:27.the competition, and keep Microsoft at bay. All right, our correspondent

:10:28. > :10:33.in New York on the PlayStation 4. Thank you so much for interesting

:10:34. > :10:35.your time with us. I'm Rico Hizon. Sport Today is coming up
