:00:22. > :00:26.Trump. The key issues will be North Korea's is I'll programme. Mr Trump

:00:27. > :00:30.also previously said he would make China pay for the big trading

:00:31. > :00:37.balance between China and the US. In a statement obtained by the BBC, the

:00:38. > :00:40.Basque military movements Eta says is we'll unilaterally disarm this

:00:41. > :00:45.week, ending decades of violence between them and the Spanish

:00:46. > :00:54.government. This is trending online. The French candidate Frances Friel

:00:55. > :00:57.-- France's feline is being investigated over allegations that

:00:58. > :01:11.he gave fake jobs to his wife. That's all from me. As for watching

:01:12. > :01:15.BBC World News. Our top UK stories: Theresa May has told the president

:01:16. > :01:19.of the European Council Donald task that the sovereignty of Gibraltar is

:01:20. > :01:26.not up for negotiation during the Brexit talks. Let's cross over life

:01:27. > :01:34.to Singapore for the latest business news.

:01:35. > :01:44.Face-to-face for the first time, as Xi Jinping and Donald Trump meet in

:01:45. > :01:46.Mar-a-Lago. And we look at how a government crackdown in India is

:01:47. > :01:55.affecting the world's largest exporter of buffalo meat.

:01:56. > :02:03.Welcome to Asia Business Report. The Chinese president has arrived in the

:02:04. > :02:08.United States for a meeting with his counterpart President Donald Trump.

:02:09. > :02:13.Mr Trump is hosting Xi Jinping at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

:02:14. > :02:20.The meeting today is the very first time they are talking in person.

:02:21. > :02:25.There's lots to discuss. Security, are both men in agreement on how to

:02:26. > :02:31.handle North Korea? And on. Can these dealmakers avert a potential

:02:32. > :02:37.trade war? Joining us with some answers we hope is our Asia business

:02:38. > :02:42.correspondent. Lots of big issues. North Korea, the South China Sea,

:02:43. > :02:46.but focusing on trade. Despite all of the tough campaign talk that we

:02:47. > :02:50.heard from President Trump, branding China a currency manipulator,

:02:51. > :02:55.slapping it with punitive tariffs, none of this has happened. They

:02:56. > :02:59.still have the rest of the net to get through, let's wait and see what

:03:00. > :03:04.happens. -- rest of the night. At the tone has changed a great deal

:03:05. > :03:09.before the meeting and now when they are meeting face-to-face. Just look

:03:10. > :03:15.at the peak is of that historic handshake. Everyone waiting to see

:03:16. > :03:19.offcourse what kind of camaraderie the two men will build. It is

:03:20. > :03:23.arguably the most important political relationship in the entire

:03:24. > :03:29.world. On the face of it everything seems to be quite congenial. Mr

:03:30. > :03:34.Trump speaking at dinner earlier this evening has even set that China

:03:35. > :03:41.and the US, the two men, are going to have a very great relationship.

:03:42. > :03:46.He was using his fabulous word "great" yet again. When they sit

:03:47. > :03:52.down and have the conversations, high up on the agenda is the trade

:03:53. > :03:58.deficit. Last year, 347 million dollars trade deficit. Half of that

:03:59. > :04:03.due to China. -- billion. Mr Trump says that is one of the key things

:04:04. > :04:06.he will raise during these talks. Both of these leaders don't want to

:04:07. > :04:10.be seen as weak and are really playing to their domestic audiences

:04:11. > :04:16.to some extent. What should they be coming away with? A major success

:04:17. > :04:24.will be if this trip goes off without any faux pas. For the

:04:25. > :04:27.Chinese it is very much about face. President Xi Jinping has effectively

:04:28. > :04:32.what is an election in China at the end of the year. He is going to want

:04:33. > :04:35.to make sure that this meeting comes across as a relationship between

:04:36. > :04:39.equals. President Trump has offered some political setbacks over the

:04:40. > :04:43.course of the last couple of weeks, so he will want to make sure that it

:04:44. > :04:47.looks like he has managed to secure some major agreements from the

:04:48. > :04:52.Chinese president. But we've still got a day and a half left, so let's

:04:53. > :04:57.see what happens. That's right and the crucial working lunch tomorrow.

:04:58. > :05:02.Thanks very much. In other news:, Twitter has refused to reveal the

:05:03. > :05:06.user behind an account of post to President Trump's tough immigration

:05:07. > :05:11.policies and says it is challenging the demand for records in court. The

:05:12. > :05:14.account describes itself as immigration resistance and the

:05:15. > :05:18.person behind it claims to be a federal employee.

:05:19. > :05:25.Samsung Electronics has shrugged off the effects of a major recall and

:05:26. > :05:29.involvement in corruption scandal, posting a bullish estimates of its

:05:30. > :05:33.profits. The company says its first-quarter operating profit are

:05:34. > :05:38.likely to have risen 48% on the year, coming in at 8.7 6 billion

:05:39. > :05:44.dollars. And could this be the year of

:05:45. > :05:49.travel? According to research, falling FS, higher capacity across

:05:50. > :05:52.several airlines may encourage more people to pack their bags and

:05:53. > :05:58.venture beyond their borders -- falling airfares. An online travel

:05:59. > :06:05.booking firms is more flights are adding destinations, including

:06:06. > :06:15.Dubai, India and China. I spoke to the president and chief executive at

:06:16. > :06:19.Xpedia. We are seeing the rise of inter- Asian travel. Many Asian

:06:20. > :06:26.travellers are going all around Asia. Bangkok my Singapore, Hong

:06:27. > :06:34.Kong, Taipei, Tokyo. We are all growing quickly. In Osaka, search

:06:35. > :06:37.volumes are up 90% year-on-year. Japan's focus on expanding Japanese

:06:38. > :06:41.tourism and Japan as a destination really seems to be working and the

:06:42. > :06:50.quality of the product is excellent. So we see Expedia's Asian customers

:06:51. > :06:53.increasingly searching Japan as a destination. I want to ask your

:06:54. > :06:57.outlook for the airline industry. We are lots of competition. Lower

:06:58. > :07:02.airfares as well, with all of the budget airlines out there. Does that

:07:03. > :07:07.automatically translate to more travel for travellers in Asia? More

:07:08. > :07:14.supply means lower pricing and we are absolutely seeing Lord pricing,

:07:15. > :07:17.especially on international theirs. -- international fares. That means

:07:18. > :07:21.more travellers. It is a great time to travel and we see more capacity

:07:22. > :07:25.coming into the Asian Pacific market. I think the next five years

:07:26. > :07:28.will be excellent for the Asian consumer. You mentioned some of

:07:29. > :07:34.those destinations earlier, Osaka, Bangkok and others, but because of

:07:35. > :07:39.the terror related attacks, have we seen reduced demand for places like

:07:40. > :07:44.London and Paris? We have seen Paris, for example, was weaker

:07:45. > :07:48.earlier. But demand has really bounced back. London has benefited

:07:49. > :07:53.funnily enough from Brexit, as the British pound came down. London

:07:54. > :07:57.became a much cheaper destination and as a result which seem pretty

:07:58. > :08:02.enormous demand coming into London and the rest of the UK. we have 15

:08:03. > :08:08.seconds. How has this impacted your company? Well, in general travel is

:08:09. > :08:17.growing incredibly quickly. We're going from a society of -- growing

:08:18. > :08:20.to a society of experiences, so we are happy now.

:08:21. > :08:26.That was the chief executive of Expedia. Across India, the killing

:08:27. > :08:31.of cows has been outlawed for years. A few weeks ago they started

:08:32. > :08:35.cracking down on the killing of buffaloes as well. Hindu

:08:36. > :08:39.nationalists have been campaigning against the slaughter for decades,

:08:40. > :08:43.but India is the largest exporter of buffalo meat and more than half of

:08:44. > :08:53.that supply comes from one particular state. We found out how

:08:54. > :08:56.it is impacting the industry. This is a thriving industry with

:08:57. > :09:01.exports alone amounting to $5 billion a year. But for more than

:09:02. > :09:07.two weeks this plant has been operating at less than 20% of its

:09:08. > :09:12.capacity. We are getting less orders. Indian buffalo meat goes to

:09:13. > :09:17.most countries. They are apprehensive. They want to serve

:09:18. > :09:21.their own supply chains in neighbouring countries. They aren't

:09:22. > :09:29.sure whether we will be able to supply them on time. It all started

:09:30. > :09:32.when a Hindu nationalist became chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. He

:09:33. > :09:37.opposes the slaughter of cows, considered sacred by the Hindu

:09:38. > :09:41.majority in India. Cow slaughtering is illegal in most parts of India,

:09:42. > :09:49.including Uttar Pradesh. But the slaughter of buffaloes is legal. He

:09:50. > :09:54.said his policy is simply aimed at slaughterhouses that don't have

:09:55. > :09:58.government licences. But legal plants are feeling the effects as

:09:59. > :10:03.well. Around 2000 buffaloes would get delivered at this facility every

:10:04. > :10:11.day. Now, less than 200 remain. Look at the site. It is completely empty.

:10:12. > :10:14.A sign of this ban's wider effects. Supplies have also stopped

:10:15. > :10:19.delivering buffaloes because they are concerned about being targeted.

:10:20. > :10:25.At the local cattle market, usually a hive of activity, it's a similar

:10:26. > :10:33.story. Traders here fear that local groups are taking the law into their

:10:34. > :10:36.own hands. TRANSLATION: farmers aren't bringing their buffaloes to

:10:37. > :10:41.market. They said the police are harassing them. Some vigilantes

:10:42. > :10:45.groups are also attacking them. No one registers a complaint because

:10:46. > :10:48.these groups have political backing. The state government stands by its

:10:49. > :10:54.decision but says anyone acting outside the law will be dealt with.

:10:55. > :10:57.TRANSLATION: If the buffalo traders are doing their business legally and

:10:58. > :11:04.are being stopped, that's illegal. Action will be taken against any

:11:05. > :11:09.groups housing terrorists. Tens of thousands of people work in the meat

:11:10. > :11:13.business in Uttar Pradesh and most are minority Muslims. There are

:11:14. > :11:18.fears this kind of policies could fuel religious tensions. For now,

:11:19. > :11:23.with so many people out of jobs, the supplied hit both at home and

:11:24. > :11:28.abroad, most are looking for answers about the future of the industry.

:11:29. > :11:34.A quick look at the markets before we go. Some gains for the Nikkei,

:11:35. > :11:39.are almost 1%. It's reversing the four-month lows. It closed at

:11:40. > :11:43.yesterday. A lot of caution still because of the ongoing meeting

:11:44. > :11:47.between Trump and Xi Jinping. A lot of investors watching that. That's

:11:48. > :11:58.it for this edition of Asia Business Report. Thanks for watching.
