:00:16. > :00:24.Olympic gold medals as she storms to victory in the Omnium.

:00:25. > :00:30.I did not expect that and I'm just so happy it all came together.

:00:31. > :00:33.Giles Scott adds to Team GB's gold tally with victory

:00:34. > :00:44.And it's double bronze in gymnastics as Amy Tinkler excels in the floor

:00:45. > :00:47.final and Nile Wilson flies high on the horizontal bar.

:00:48. > :00:48.In other news, Britain's most high profile

:00:49. > :00:50.Islamist preacher - Anjem Choudary - is convicted

:00:51. > :00:56.of inciting support for so called Islamic State.

:00:57. > :00:59.Those speeches and the material he posted was used to radicalise

:01:00. > :01:01.others. Inflation rises by more

:01:02. > :01:03.than expected to 0.6% - pushed up by higher fuel prices

:01:04. > :01:05.and transport costs. A 52-year-old man is killed

:01:06. > :01:08.after being attacked by a dog that had been returned to its owner

:01:09. > :01:15.despite concerns it was dangerous. Also in the next hour, an 18-year

:01:16. > :01:20.study into the decline of wild bees as scientists say the fall can be

:01:21. > :01:23.linked to the use of a controversial pesticide which is temporarily

:01:24. > :01:44.banned in the EU. Good evening and

:01:45. > :01:47.welcome to BBC News. History has been made for Team GB

:01:48. > :01:52.at the Olympics in Rio. Laura Trott has become Britain's

:01:53. > :01:55.most decorated female Within the past 20 minutes she's won

:01:56. > :02:03.gold in the women's omnium cycling. She went into the points race

:02:04. > :02:07.leading her field by some way and after an aggressive ride

:02:08. > :02:10.she confirmed her position as one She gave her reaction

:02:11. > :02:27.minutes after winning. I can't believe it, I actually can't

:02:28. > :02:32.believe it. I don't want to go home. I just did not expect that at all

:02:33. > :02:38.and I'm just so happy that it all came together. I honestly cannot

:02:39. > :02:42.thank everybody at home enough. The people you don't see, they have

:02:43. > :02:47.really helped me, the people who work at the gym, the people who look

:02:48. > :02:55.at the data, my nutritionist, and especially my coach who has to deal

:02:56. > :03:01.with my clap on a daily basis because I cannot do what he has

:03:02. > :03:07.given me, and today when it goes well, I'm over the moon. You say you

:03:08. > :03:13.weren't expecting it, I think everybody else here was, that was a

:03:14. > :03:20.special moment. You think people who here and do it time and again and to

:03:21. > :03:24.repeat their success in London, it's just, I can't even explain what I'm

:03:25. > :03:26.going through now. I am just so happy.

:03:27. > :03:30.There's been another gold for Britian in the sailing

:03:31. > :03:33.as Giles Scott has been confirmed as the winner in the Finn-class.

:03:34. > :03:35.He was already guaranteed his title after taking an unassailable lead

:03:36. > :03:41.It was Britain's fifth successive Olympic title in the event.

:03:42. > :03:45.Nile Wilson has extended Team GB's gymnastic's success.

:03:46. > :03:48.He took a bronze in the men's horizontal bar final

:03:49. > :03:52.after just being pipped to silver after an impressive performance

:03:53. > :04:00.And another medal for Team GB came in the form of 16-year-old

:04:01. > :04:04.Amy Tinkler, the youngest athlete of the entire British squad,

:04:05. > :04:08.who won a bronze in the women's floor exercise final.

:04:09. > :04:12.Earlier this summer she was sitting her GCSE exams.

:04:13. > :04:18.She was asked how it felt to be an Olympic medallist.

:04:19. > :04:28.I honestly don't have a clue. It's so unreal and I cannot believe that

:04:29. > :04:33.at all. I'm in total shock. When you did that routine, did you think that

:04:34. > :04:38.could be a medal or was it fourth or fifth place? My coach said he got

:04:39. > :04:43.nothing to lose, just go out and enjoy it and I knew I had done the

:04:44. > :04:50.best I could and whatever the result was, I would be happy with. You were

:04:51. > :04:54.only the second woman ever to win an Olympic medal for Great Britain, you

:04:55. > :04:58.are up there with the likes of Beth Weddle and you are not even 17. You

:04:59. > :05:05.seemed at home on the biggest stage of all. I love competing in front of

:05:06. > :05:12.big crowds, it's just incredible. I am so shocked. Let's go back to the

:05:13. > :05:20.developer room because Laura Trott has just received her gold medal.

:05:21. > :05:25.There was never any doubt, it was Laura Trott's win from start to

:05:26. > :05:30.finish in the Omnium, a spectacular performance at the end of a

:05:31. > :05:34.wonderful week, a world record in the women's team pursuit and AIDS on

:05:35. > :05:45.the performance in the woman's Omnium. A double Olympic champion

:05:46. > :05:48.for the second games in a row. She may have been an emotional and

:05:49. > :05:52.holding back the tears in the interview but I think she did well

:05:53. > :05:58.to hold them back there. I don't know how people do not cry when they

:05:59. > :06:05.hear the national anthem. There could be more success for Team GB,

:06:06. > :06:09.Jason Kenny will soon... Laura Trott's fourth Olympic title and

:06:10. > :06:12.there she is on the podium, receiving that gold medal as a

:06:13. > :06:15.result of that win in the Omnium. We'll have a full update

:06:16. > :06:24.on the latest from Rio from the BBC's Sports

:06:25. > :06:26.Centre in ten minutes. The radical British-born preacher,

:06:27. > :06:28.Anjem Choudary, has been found guilty of inviting support

:06:29. > :06:30.for so-called Islamic State. Another man, Mohammed Mizanur

:06:31. > :06:32.Rahman, was convicted The Crown Prosecution Service said

:06:33. > :06:36.the pair had used social media to try to influence their followers

:06:37. > :06:38.including the young The men were found guilty three

:06:39. > :06:41.weeks ago at a trial at the Old Bailey, but for legal

:06:42. > :06:45.reasons the media has been unable Here's our home affairs

:06:46. > :06:54.correspondent, June Kelly. The whole world, one

:06:55. > :06:56.day, my dear brothers, Including Hackney, and Walthamstow,

:06:57. > :06:59.and Moscow, and New York. All of the countries,

:07:00. > :07:01.inshallah, under Anjem Choudary has long been

:07:02. > :07:09.a provocative figure. For years, the police

:07:10. > :07:11.and intelligence agencies have been monitoring his

:07:12. > :07:13.movements and speeches. He knew this and, as a trained

:07:14. > :07:16.lawyer, he knew how to stay on the right side of the law

:07:17. > :07:22.- until now. If you look at his influence

:07:23. > :07:28.and the impact, that was then available to people

:07:29. > :07:29.across the world. Without a doubt, those speeches

:07:30. > :07:34.and material he posted was used In my view, the UK is a safer place

:07:35. > :07:41.with him behind bars. Choudary has now been convicted

:07:42. > :07:43.of inviting support The jury wasn't told that one

:07:44. > :07:53.of his keenest followers, Siddhartha Dhar, fled the UK

:07:54. > :07:58.while on bail and joined IS. He is suspected of being

:07:59. > :08:01.the new "Jihadi John", Dhar posted this picture of himself

:08:02. > :08:07.when he arrived in Syria. His newborn son in one arm,

:08:08. > :08:12.an AK-47 in the other. The injustice, and the oppression

:08:13. > :08:17.done to the Muslim community And amongst others to fall under

:08:18. > :08:21.Anjem Choudary's spell He was one of the pair who went

:08:22. > :08:25.on to murder Fusilier Lee Rigby Muslims are dying daily

:08:26. > :08:33.by British soldiers. Richard Dart was another

:08:34. > :08:34.Anjem Choudary disciple. Here, Choudary was actually

:08:35. > :08:49.converting him to Islam. Three years ago, Dart was jailed

:08:50. > :08:52.for terrorism offences. As a film-maker, his brother met

:08:53. > :08:54.the radical preacher He's kind of like a father figure

:08:55. > :08:58.to these young guys, He radicalises people,

:08:59. > :09:02.he indoctrinates them Choudary wasn't always

:09:03. > :09:15.so anti-Western. As a student, he liked to drink

:09:16. > :09:18.and wasn't offended by pictures But from his 20s, he became

:09:19. > :09:22.a political zealot. Anjem Choudary delivered his

:09:23. > :09:25.speeches on streets like this, Down the years, he's been linked

:09:26. > :09:35.to countless extremists, But he was never charged

:09:36. > :09:43.with any serious offence. It was the conflict in Syria

:09:44. > :09:46.which changed this. In the summer of 2014,

:09:47. > :09:49.the IS leadership declared the establishment of

:09:50. > :09:56.an Islamic state. Choudary pledged an oath

:09:57. > :09:59.of allegiance to it and, in talks, The leader who relished

:10:00. > :10:07.being at the centre of events, and had been a teacher to so many,

:10:08. > :10:10.had crossed the legal line. Anjem Choudary, in his

:10:11. > :10:12.police custody picture. After two decades, his inflammatory

:10:13. > :10:19.rhetoric has finally been silenced. Inflation rose more quickly

:10:20. > :10:22.than expected last month to 0.6%, according to the Office for National

:10:23. > :10:26.Statistics. It was pushed up by an increase

:10:27. > :10:29.in the cost of fuel Separate figures suggest the fall

:10:30. > :10:33.in the value of the pound since the UK's vote to leave the EU

:10:34. > :10:36.has increased the cost Here's our Economics Correspondent,

:10:37. > :10:42.Andy Verity. A man has died in West Yorkshire

:10:43. > :10:50.after being attacked by a dog, a week after the animal had been

:10:51. > :10:53.returned to its owner It is thought 52-year-old

:10:54. > :10:56.David Ellam was trying to protect his own Yorkshire terrier

:10:57. > :10:59.when the larger dog turned on him. West Yorkshire Police said the dog

:11:00. > :11:01.involved had been seized by officers in June,

:11:02. > :11:03.as our correspondent It happened in that

:11:04. > :11:10.street as David Ellam Some of the neighbours said

:11:11. > :11:19.that they saw what happened, there were serious injuries

:11:20. > :11:21.to his leg, arm and face. He was taken to hospital

:11:22. > :11:31.but died 12 hours later. The larger dog was removed

:11:32. > :11:34.by police to kennels. This has been referred to

:11:35. > :11:37.the police complaints commission, because the dog had

:11:38. > :11:40.previously been seized but was returned to the owner

:11:41. > :11:49.just a few days ago. A 29-year-old man was arrested

:11:50. > :11:52.after the attack. He has been bailed

:11:53. > :11:59.following further enquiries. The number of wild bees

:12:00. > :12:01.across England is on the decline, They say the sharp fall of up to 30%

:12:02. > :12:06.can be linked to the use of a controversial pesticide which

:12:07. > :12:10.is temporarily banned in the EU. The research, which was published

:12:11. > :12:12.in the journal Nature Communications, was carried out

:12:13. > :12:16.by scientists based in Oxfordshire. It's an idyllic rural scene

:12:17. > :12:25.here but across the countryside Bees are in dramatic decline

:12:26. > :12:29.and the problem has been linked to habitat loss,

:12:30. > :12:30.climate change and disease, but in recent years a light has been

:12:31. > :12:34.shone on a group of pesticides called neonicotinoids

:12:35. > :12:35.and scientists believe they have evidence they are causing

:12:36. > :12:46.a widespread problem. They're vital for the environment -

:12:47. > :12:50.pollinating our flowers, But Britain's bees are in trouble

:12:51. > :12:58.and now scientists say there's evidence that pesticides are linked

:12:59. > :13:02.to their widespread decline. In farmland across the country,

:13:03. > :13:05.neonicotinoid chemicals have been This field of oilseed rape is just

:13:06. > :13:12.about ready for harvest and it's this crop that's treated

:13:13. > :13:19.with the insecticide. The chemical's applied to seeds

:13:20. > :13:22.before they are planted and this protects the plants from pests

:13:23. > :13:24.as they grow. But since 2013, farms haven't been

:13:25. > :13:29.allowed to use the pesticide, after the European Union put

:13:30. > :13:33.a temporary ban in place. Smaller lab-based studies suggested

:13:34. > :13:39.they were harming bees. However, this latest research

:13:40. > :13:41.from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology analysed their effects

:13:42. > :13:43.on dozens of species across the whole of England

:13:44. > :13:46.and they found that bees that foraged on neonicotinoid treated

:13:47. > :13:48.oilseed rape were three times more likely to be in decline

:13:49. > :13:56.than the species that didn't. What we've been able to do

:13:57. > :13:59.is massively increase the scale We are looking at the whole of

:14:00. > :14:02.England. We are looking at long-time periods,

:14:03. > :14:06.over 18 years and looking at 62 And it's this massive increase

:14:07. > :14:09.in scale which separates this study But one company that makes

:14:10. > :14:33.neonicotinoids says it is not clear that the pesticide is to blame

:14:34. > :14:36.and the ban is hurting farmers. The alternatives, when it comes

:14:37. > :14:38.to growing oilseed rape in a UK landscape, seem to be

:14:39. > :14:41.very few and the ones that are there don't

:14:42. > :14:43.appear to be really helping. We are seeing a lot of destruction

:14:44. > :14:46.of crops out there and farmers are really struggling to be able

:14:47. > :14:50.to grow this crop in the UK now. This growing body of research,

:14:51. > :14:53.on the plight of bees, is currently Next year they'll decide

:14:54. > :14:56.whether to lift the ban It's clearly an incredibly complex

:14:57. > :15:02.issue and one of the biggest problems is it's nearly impossible

:15:03. > :15:04.to grow oilseed rape without pesticides, so if you get

:15:05. > :15:07.rid of neonicotinoids you have to replace them with another

:15:08. > :15:10.chemical and that may bring with it a host of other environmental

:15:11. > :15:14.problems, but on the other hand bees are essential

:15:15. > :15:17.for farmers, they pollinate One thing is for sure,

:15:18. > :15:21.it is going to be Let's go back to the Olympics

:15:22. > :15:33.and more gold medals and a smattering of others

:15:34. > :15:39.for Team GB this evening. There's been another medal in the

:15:40. > :15:41.cycling in the last few
