:01:13. > :01:39.The footballer Ched Evans has been found not guilty

:01:40. > :01:41.of raping a teenager - following a retrial.

:01:42. > :01:44.The Welsh international was originally convicted

:01:45. > :01:48.of raping her in a hotel in May 2011 and served over two years in prison.

:01:49. > :01:50.There was then an outcry when he tried to return

:01:51. > :01:54.His conviction was later quashed at the Court of Appeal.

:01:55. > :01:57.After today's acquittal, accompanied by his fiancee,

:01:58. > :02:00.Ched Evans said he was overwhelmed with relief.

:02:01. > :02:04.Sian Lloyd is at Cardiff Crown Court.

:02:05. > :02:06.Five years after this all began, the jury reached

:02:07. > :02:20.Yes, indeed. It took the jury less than three hours to find Ched Evans

:02:21. > :02:24.innocent. There were cries and shouts of relief from the public

:02:25. > :02:25.gallery, where his family and friends were watching. They've been

:02:26. > :02:29.following him every step of the way. Leaving court a free man, his

:02:30. > :02:32.fiancee Natasha Massey by his side. For five years, Ched Evans has

:02:33. > :02:35.maintained his innocence. Today, a jury of seven women

:02:36. > :02:38.and five men acquitted him of rape. Thanks go too to my friends

:02:39. > :02:44.and family, most notably my fiancee Natasha, who chose,

:02:45. > :02:48.perhaps incredibly, Whilst my innocence has

:02:49. > :02:54.now been established, I wish to make it clear that

:02:55. > :02:58.I wholeheartedly apologise to anyone who might have been

:02:59. > :03:01.affected by the events Minutes earlier the couple had

:03:02. > :03:08.hugged and cried after Ched Evans Members of his family shouted "yes"

:03:09. > :03:14.as the verdict was read out. At the age of 22, Ched Evans

:03:15. > :03:18.had his career in front of him, when he was charged with raping

:03:19. > :03:22.a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room. He'd been capped 13 times

:03:23. > :03:24.for Wales and was playing His career with the club ended

:03:25. > :03:31.when he was convicted in April 2012. That conviction was quashed

:03:32. > :03:34.in the Court of Appeal after fresh evidence was produced

:03:35. > :03:39.and a retrial was ordered. The prosecution took the jury back

:03:40. > :03:44.to the early hours of the 30th of May 2011, when Ched Evans had let

:03:45. > :03:48.himself into the hotel room of a fellow footballer,

:03:49. > :03:51.who had been having consensual sex Simon Medland QC said

:03:52. > :03:56.that she was so drunk she did not She couldn't have consented to sex

:03:57. > :04:02.with Ched Evans, he said. But Ched Evans told the jury she had

:04:03. > :04:07.allowed him to join in. The court heard from two men

:04:08. > :04:10.who hadn't spoken before. They described occasions when they'd

:04:11. > :04:15.had sex with the young woman. Evidence of an alleged victim's

:04:16. > :04:17.sexual behaviour is only put before In this case it was said the events

:04:18. > :04:24.the two men described were so similar to what Ched Evans

:04:25. > :04:30.claimed that a jury had to hear them before deciding whether the woman

:04:31. > :04:35.was capable of giving consent. The prosecution suggested

:04:36. > :04:38.they were motivated by a ?50,000 reward that had been posted

:04:39. > :04:43.on a website called chedevans.com, for information that could lead

:04:44. > :04:45.to his original conviction Both men denied asking

:04:46. > :04:51.for or being offered any money. Leaving court, Ched Evans was asked

:04:52. > :04:54.whether the apology in his statement What is the future now,

:04:55. > :05:06.Ched? Or comment about where

:05:07. > :05:18.he goes from here. Ched Evans is now free to return to

:05:19. > :05:21.his club, Chesterfield, where he signed in the summer. Tonight, the

:05:22. > :05:25.chief executive issued a statement saying that the club welcomed the

:05:26. > :05:31.news of his acquittal. They said they were delighted for Ched, his

:05:32. > :05:32.family and friends, and added we can all move forward now and concentrate

:05:33. > :05:35.on the football. The price of everyday

:05:36. > :05:37.goods will go up - that's the warning from the Governor

:05:38. > :05:40.of the Bank of England . He blames the fall in the value

:05:41. > :05:43.of the pound caused by uncertainty over Britain's decision to leave

:05:44. > :05:45.the European Union. Mark Carney said life would get

:05:46. > :05:48.difficult for those on lowest incomes as we move from no

:05:49. > :05:50.inflation to some inflation. Food is likely to be the first

:05:51. > :05:53.to experience price rises, as we currently import over

:05:54. > :05:55.half of what we consume. Our economics editor

:05:56. > :06:00.Kamal Ahmed reports. He has admitted the Bank has

:06:01. > :06:05.intervened more often than usual as the UK economy becomes familiar

:06:06. > :06:11.with a new era of uncertainty. And some of those rather uncertain

:06:12. > :06:14.members of the public gathered today in the West Midlands to hear

:06:15. > :06:16.what the governor thought were the key challenges

:06:17. > :06:19.as Britain plots its way out I am constantly looking

:06:20. > :06:28.at inflation figures for my job but for the impact on my husband's

:06:29. > :06:32.job, my son's potential employment. These are massive considerations

:06:33. > :06:37.and I am concerned. Mr Carney said inflation

:06:38. > :06:39.was creeping back and could hit We've had a long period of low

:06:40. > :06:45.inflation, very low, The principal reason will be

:06:46. > :06:51.the movement in the currency. That will flow through to

:06:52. > :06:54.the prices on the high This public meeting in Birmingham

:06:55. > :07:00.is really part of the Bank's Concern today has focused

:07:01. > :07:05.on inflation, but it's more It's the effective of price rises

:07:06. > :07:11.on what Theresa May described Those are people who are in work

:07:12. > :07:21.but are still struggling to get by. Early in the summer the Bank

:07:22. > :07:23.suggested that another interest rate The governor made it clear today

:07:24. > :07:27.that that decision was The economy is performing a little

:07:28. > :07:31.better than expected, albeit it has slowed relative

:07:32. > :07:36.to the rate it had prior to the referendum, and we have

:07:37. > :07:39.to take into account inflation considerations,

:07:40. > :07:42.so we take all that into account. Afterwards, I caught up

:07:43. > :07:46.with Fiona, a teacher. Do you feel more confident now

:07:47. > :07:49.you have had time to listen to the governor and other members

:07:50. > :07:51.of the Bank of England? Absolutely, he clearly said

:07:52. > :07:55.we will save some jobs at this point if necessary, and we might have

:07:56. > :08:00.short-term inflation in two years and we will worry about solving

:08:01. > :08:05.that after that. A lower pound can be a spark

:08:06. > :08:08.for growth and a little bit For this steel company just down

:08:09. > :08:14.the road, a falling pound We'll be able to sell cheaper

:08:15. > :08:19.into foreign markets. We just expect an increase

:08:20. > :08:25.in turnover as a result of that, Mark Carney is engaged

:08:26. > :08:31.in a tricky balancing act. Ease any economic slowdown,

:08:32. > :08:33.but don't allow inflation If prices march upwards,

:08:34. > :08:37.it won't be long before The chief executive of Nissan says

:08:38. > :08:46.he's confident Britain will remain His comments follow talks

:08:47. > :08:50.with the Prime Minister Carlos Ghosn had previously warned

:08:51. > :08:55.Nissan might stop new investment in its plant in Sunderland

:08:56. > :08:57.unless a compensation deal could be agreed with the government

:08:58. > :09:02.after the vote to leave the EU. The New Zealand judge who resigned

:09:03. > :09:05.as head of the inquiry into child sexual abuse says allegations

:09:06. > :09:07.about her behaviour The Times newspaper claimed

:09:08. > :09:11.the Home Office was warned about the conduct of

:09:12. > :09:14.Justice Lowell Goddard - which included negative remarks

:09:15. > :09:17.about Asian men and reports that This afternoon she issued

:09:18. > :09:21.a statement calling The Home Office has denied receiving

:09:22. > :09:38.any formal complaint A fresh inquest is to be held in two

:09:39. > :09:46.death of a 20-year-old soldier at the cut barracks in Surrey. Private

:09:47. > :09:51.Sean Benton was found with shotgun wounds to his chest, the original

:09:52. > :09:54.enquiry felt he had taken his own life. His family said he was

:09:55. > :10:01.repeatedly bullied. Two more women have come forward

:10:02. > :10:03.tonight, alleging inappropriate sexual behaviour from the Republican

:10:04. > :10:05.presidential candidate Donald Trump. One was a former contestant

:10:06. > :10:08.on Mr Trump's show The Apprentice. She claims he tried to force himself

:10:09. > :10:11.on her before a dinner in 2007. Mr Trump has dismissed the recent

:10:12. > :10:13.accusations against him, Here's our North American editor,

:10:14. > :10:26.Jon Sopel. Another day, another set of

:10:27. > :10:29.accusations against Mr Trump. What won Mr Trump the Republican

:10:30. > :10:33.nomination where his policies on trade, jobs and immigration but that

:10:34. > :10:36.has been blown away by the slew of sexual abuse allegations. It seems

:10:37. > :10:40.that it's doing him some harm. Latest polls suggest Hillary Clinton

:10:41. > :10:47.is widening her lead over him and in some states they've already started

:10:48. > :10:49.voting. Another day and another series of disturbing allegations

:10:50. > :10:54.about Donald Trump's behaviour towards women. He asked me to sit

:10:55. > :10:59.next to him. I complied full stop even grabbed my shoulder and began

:11:00. > :11:05.kissing me again very aggressively and placed his hand on my breast.

:11:06. > :11:10.You're fired. Summer Zervos had been a contestant on his reality show,

:11:11. > :11:15.the The Apprentice. He put me in an embrace and I tried to push away. I

:11:16. > :11:21.pushed his chest and said come on, get real. He repeated my words back

:11:22. > :11:24.to me. Get real. As he began thrusting his genitals. And another

:11:25. > :11:29.woman has come forward to tell her story to the Washington Post. The

:11:30. > :11:35.person on my right, who unbeknownst to me at that time was Donald Trump,

:11:36. > :11:40.put their hand up my skirt. He did touch my joiner through my

:11:41. > :11:43.underwear. It's now a week since that infamous video tape emerged in

:11:44. > :11:46.which Donald Trump boasted about sexually assaulting a woman. He

:11:47. > :11:51.apologised for that and said he never actually did those things. He

:11:52. > :11:57.hoped that would draw a line under it but it hasn't. Since then, 11

:11:58. > :12:02.women have come forward to a large unwanted sexual advances from him

:12:03. > :12:06.and that number seems set to rise. But in North Carolina today, he was

:12:07. > :12:09.making light of the problem. Implying that one of the women was

:12:10. > :12:14.simply not attractive enough to make advances to. Believe me, she would

:12:15. > :12:24.not be my first choice come that I can tell you. That would not be my

:12:25. > :12:28.first choice. And he's not Barack Obama's first choice. The president

:12:29. > :12:33.mocking the idea that Donald Trump was the champion of the downtrodden.

:12:34. > :12:41.There's no record that he's supported minimum supported

:12:42. > :12:44.collective-bargaining, invested in poor communities, and then suddenly

:12:45. > :12:54.he's going to be the champion of working people? Come on. Come on,

:12:55. > :12:58.man. The trump campaign has so far denied all the allegations, saying

:12:59. > :13:00.they are phoney and made by women looking for free publicity. Jon

:13:01. > :13:05.Sopel, BBC News, Washington. As support begins to ebb

:13:06. > :13:08.from Donald Trump - for now anyway - his popularity is waning even

:13:09. > :13:11.in some Republican heartlands. The state of Utah has been

:13:12. > :13:13.Republican for nearly 50 years. As our North America correspondent

:13:14. > :13:15.Aleem Maqbool reports, a growing number of the state's

:13:16. > :13:18.mostly Mormon voters are now considering switching support

:13:19. > :13:20.from Trump to the little-known independent third-party

:13:21. > :13:28.candidate Evan McMullin. Beautiful, solidly Republican Utah

:13:29. > :13:32.never matters in elections. In this staggering year,

:13:33. > :13:38.one of the most extraordinary races These people have packed their town

:13:39. > :13:43.hall to see the person they want Not Trump, not Clinton,

:13:44. > :13:49.but Evan McMullin. This former CIA operative

:13:50. > :13:52.and lifelong Republican was so disgusted with the candidate

:13:53. > :13:55.his party chose he decided Those now flocking to him are mainly

:13:56. > :14:00.other Republicans, I see my family and my little girl

:14:01. > :14:06.and I want her to grow up So to hear those things,

:14:07. > :14:09.it was hard for me I can't stand either of the other

:14:10. > :14:13.two candidates, I don't trust either of them and I'm

:14:14. > :14:16.tired of the bickering. Polls now show Evan McMullin has got

:14:17. > :14:20.a real shot at becoming the first third-party candidate to win any

:14:21. > :14:23.state since 1968. More and more people

:14:24. > :14:26.are learning about us, people are joining us,

:14:27. > :14:31.people getting involved with this We'll let you get back

:14:32. > :14:36.to taking selfies. Colleen knew from the start

:14:37. > :14:42.she wouldn't vote for Donald Trump. I just can't see how

:14:43. > :14:48.he would ever unify. She persuaded Deborah to support

:14:49. > :14:52.McMullin just in the last week. The other night, watching the debate

:14:53. > :14:55.is what pushed me over the edge. But Mark won't ditch Trump

:14:56. > :15:01.for the new candidate. I've got a vote where I can do

:15:02. > :15:05.the most good for my country, and that's get behind

:15:06. > :15:09.a possible winner. Utah has a unique demographic,

:15:10. > :15:13.around 60% of people belong Many had already abandoned

:15:14. > :15:18.Donald Trump over his They themselves know historically

:15:19. > :15:24.what it was like to be But it is those accusations

:15:25. > :15:29.about his treatment of women that could hurt him here

:15:30. > :15:31.more than anywhere else. And Evan McMullin is

:15:32. > :15:34.reaping the benefits. They're now seeing the truth

:15:35. > :15:39.about Donald Trump and they are The nation as a whole is not

:15:40. > :15:44.going to vote in Evan McMullin as the next president,

:15:45. > :15:46.his tiny operation is no match for big party apparatus but watch

:15:47. > :15:49.for him and Utah potentially dealing a truly historic blow

:15:50. > :15:52.on the 8th of November. Aleem Maqbool, BBC News,

:15:53. > :16:02.in Salt Lake City. The parents of a four-month-old baby

:16:03. > :16:05.killed yesterday in a dog attack have paid tribute to him

:16:06. > :16:07.calling him their Archie Joe Darby died

:16:08. > :16:13.after being mauled by the dog His 22-month-old brother

:16:14. > :16:16.is in intensive care with what police are describing

:16:17. > :16:18.as life-changing injuries. They were, said their parents,

:16:19. > :16:23.such happy little lovable boys. But four-month-old Archie

:16:24. > :16:25.lost his life in an attack by a dog that also

:16:26. > :16:28.left his brother, Daniel-Jay, Outside the house, flowers

:16:29. > :16:33.and messages of sympathy are being left by friends,

:16:34. > :16:36.neighbours and strangers. As a parent, you can't imagine

:16:37. > :16:40.how the parents feel So I just wanted to put

:16:41. > :16:46.some flowers down. Police and paramedics

:16:47. > :16:48.were called to the house Inside, the dog had

:16:49. > :16:52.attacked not just the boys, but their mother too,

:16:53. > :16:54.though she suffered Police say the dog, which has been

:16:55. > :16:59.put down, was a Staffordshire It's not been confirmed

:17:00. > :17:04.who it belonged to. An investigation is now under way

:17:05. > :17:08.to establish the facts as to how I can confirm that nobody

:17:09. > :17:13.has been arrested. The law on dangerous dogs has

:17:14. > :17:18.already been tightened, in part because the number

:17:19. > :17:21.of injuries has been rising, hospital admissions going up

:17:22. > :17:24.from just over 6,000 in England five years ago to more than 7,300

:17:25. > :17:27.in the most recent figures. This tragedy has led

:17:28. > :17:31.to renewed concerns. We've seen two really terrible

:17:32. > :17:34.attacks in the last few months here in Essex, and questions will be

:17:35. > :17:38.rightly asked over whether we need to take more action nationally

:17:39. > :17:41.with regard to legislation around The boys' parents paid

:17:42. > :17:48.tribute to Archie as their "beautiful little angel"

:17:49. > :17:50.and referring to Daniel-Jay, they said, "Our other little

:17:51. > :17:52.soldier is still For several months, Iraqi forces,

:17:53. > :17:59.with coalition support, have been preparing for a major

:18:00. > :18:02.attack on the key city of Mosul. It's the last major stronghold

:18:03. > :18:06.of so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Iraqi officials say a ground

:18:07. > :18:10.assault could begin this month. Our defence correspondent

:18:11. > :18:16.Jonathan Beale is with Iraqi Army as they prepare for battle and sent

:18:17. > :18:19.this report from the Qayyara base At dawn, the Iraqi Army

:18:20. > :18:27.continued its journey north. We joined one of the last convoys

:18:28. > :18:32.to leave Baghdad for We passed column after column

:18:33. > :18:41.of armoured vehicles Leaving behind the devastation

:18:42. > :18:51.caused by their enemy, so-called Islamic State,

:18:52. > :18:53.and the bomb damage from US-led air And the hardest fight

:18:54. > :19:00.is still to come. The 12-hour journey

:19:01. > :19:07.ended here in Qayyara, just south of Mosul,

:19:08. > :19:11.the extremists' last TRANSLATION: We have built

:19:12. > :19:17.up our forces here. We are all in good morale

:19:18. > :19:20.and ready to liberate Mosul Those who can have already fled

:19:21. > :19:29.areas still controlled These families now setting up home

:19:30. > :19:38.in half-built houses. They walked for days to escape

:19:39. > :19:41.the clutches of IS, many barely old enough to understand

:19:42. > :19:43.the conflict they've been This 90-year-old just

:19:44. > :19:51.managed the journey. Under IS, she says, there was hardly

:19:52. > :19:54.anything to eat, children were dying For some, the scars will

:19:55. > :20:05.never be erased. This woman and her two daughters

:20:06. > :20:07.walked into a mine field She blames IS for her

:20:08. > :20:12.daughter's injuries. And she breaks down when she tells

:20:13. > :20:15.me her two young sons The UN's warned that up to a million

:20:16. > :20:26.civilians might be displaced and even if IS can be defeated,

:20:27. > :20:37.Iraq still has to deal The Iraqi Army's goal of Mosul

:20:38. > :20:42.is now just 50 miles to the north. They've arrived here

:20:43. > :20:47.in their thousands in the middle of a dust storm and it's not yet

:20:48. > :20:50.clear whether that will affect We are not allowed to say

:20:51. > :20:55.when the offensive will begin, but we have been told it

:20:56. > :20:57.will be soon. Scotland's First Minister,

:20:58. > :21:04.Nicola Sturgeon, has insisted she's not bluffing about her intention

:21:05. > :21:07.to hold a second Scottish In a BBC interview the SNP leader

:21:08. > :21:10.promised to explore all options short of independence that

:21:11. > :21:12.would maintain Scotland's place But if that fails, Scots

:21:13. > :21:16.have a right to consider Our Scotland editor

:21:17. > :21:21.Sarah Smith reports. Nicola Sturgeon thrilled conference

:21:22. > :21:23.delegates with the news she is preparing for a second

:21:24. > :21:28.referendum on Scottish independence. Of course, the message

:21:29. > :21:30.was aimed not just at them, Ms Sturgeon told me why

:21:31. > :21:36.she doesn't trust Theresa May will take her concerns

:21:37. > :21:41.about Brexit seriously. So far, I don't see the signs

:21:42. > :21:43.of her being serious. I think Theresa May has to prove

:21:44. > :21:46.that she meant what she said, just as I have to prove

:21:47. > :21:49.to people that I'm serious The ball, to some extent,

:21:50. > :21:54.is in her court. She's the one who says

:21:55. > :21:56.she values the UK. My message to the Prime Minister

:21:57. > :22:00.is, time to prove it. Why should the Prime Minister take

:22:01. > :22:03.seriously the ultimatum She reads the same opinion polls

:22:04. > :22:09.you do and she can see that support for independence has not gone up

:22:10. > :22:11.since the EU referendum. She might conclude

:22:12. > :22:13.that you're bluffing. This is not some game of chicken

:22:14. > :22:18.or dare, this is about the best interests of the country I'm

:22:19. > :22:20.elected to represent. She is obviously the Prime Minister

:22:21. > :22:25.and has duties in that regard, but my advice to her would

:22:26. > :22:28.be, don't play games. This is about the best interests

:22:29. > :22:32.of Scotland and the UK. But you say if Scotland can't remain

:22:33. > :22:35.in the single market, you would explore the option

:22:36. > :22:38.of independence, but an independent Scotland may not be part

:22:39. > :22:41.of the single market with the rest That would be more

:22:42. > :22:44.economically damaging. I know that UK Government ministers

:22:45. > :22:49.don't accept that either, because I can hear and read

:22:50. > :22:51.what they're saying The Prime Minister, David Davis,

:22:52. > :22:55.they have both been in Ireland in recent weeks saying to Ireland,

:22:56. > :22:58.it's not a case of choosing between the EU and the single market

:22:59. > :23:02.on the one hand and links I think David Davis' direct quote

:23:03. > :23:07.was that you shouldn't have to choose and you will

:23:08. > :23:09.not have to choose. What do you think the chances

:23:10. > :23:12.are that there will be another referendum on Scottish independence

:23:13. > :23:14.in the next couple of years? That's what I said the morning

:23:15. > :23:18.after the referendum. Nothing has happened

:23:19. > :23:19.to change my mind. In many respects, because of this

:23:20. > :23:21.intransigence and some of the high-handed arrogance

:23:22. > :23:27.of the comments we heard from the Tory Party conference,

:23:28. > :23:31.it makes me think more that it's not in the interests of the UK to leave

:23:32. > :23:34.the single market, in my view. But I can make sure that Scotland

:23:35. > :23:40.is not forced down a path that it doesn't want to go down

:23:41. > :23:42.without at least having the opportunity to choose to do

:23:43. > :23:44.something different. Ms Sturgeon has deliberately not

:23:45. > :23:48.promised her supporters they will definitely get

:23:49. > :23:51.another referendum. They know it, and so does

:23:52. > :23:53.the Prime Minister. Sarah Smith, BBC News,

:23:54. > :24:00.Glasgow. Finally, for some footage of a truly

:24:01. > :24:03.terrifying encounter with a shark. It shows the moment when it got

:24:04. > :24:06.into a supposedly shark-proof cage The shark is attracted to the cages

:24:07. > :24:22.with a large lump of tuna, After a frantic few seconds,

:24:23. > :24:35.the animal beats its way With mounting concern for the safety

:24:36. > :24:48.of the diver, who can't be seen. The experienced divemaster is shaken

:24:49. > :24:55.but, thankfully, unharmed. He dropped beneath the cage when it

:24:56. > :24:58.gave way, with two other sharks These cages are professionally

:24:59. > :25:12.engineered to withstand the force
