:00:13. > :00:21.say they're humbled by public support. The victims died after

:00:21. > :00:28.being hit by a car. Today their relatives called for justice.

:00:28. > :00:31.have lost the sun which has left our entire family in complete shock

:00:31. > :00:33.and devastation. Rebel fighters in Libya take

:00:33. > :00:36.control of a strategically important town from Colonel

:00:36. > :00:38.Gaddafi's forces. "England number one in the world".

:00:38. > :00:48.A crushing defeat of India makes England's cricketers officially the

:00:48. > :00:51.best in the world. You get the first word when you

:00:51. > :01:01.ring the bell. And goodbye Mr Robinson - tributes

:01:01. > :01:07.

:01:07. > :01:10.are paid to an icon of the airwaves Good evening.

:01:11. > :01:13.The families of three men who died after being hit by a car in

:01:14. > :01:17.Birmingham during the riots earlier this week, have spoken of the scale

:01:17. > :01:27.of their loss. The men died as they tried to protect their properties

:01:27. > :01:31.from looters. More than 1000 people have been charged with related

:01:31. > :01:37.offences. Today the Chancellor said the riots in England showed how

:01:37. > :01:41.deep-seated problems in society had to be tackled.

:01:41. > :01:45.In Birmingham, more people are leaving tributes to the three men

:01:45. > :01:50.who will run down by a car and killed as they were guarding their

:01:50. > :01:55.shops from looters. Five men are being held on suspicion of

:01:55. > :01:59.murdering her room jihad and Shahzad Ali and must savour Ali.

:01:59. > :02:04.This afternoon their uncle spoke out about what happened.

:02:04. > :02:14.We have lost a son which has left our entire family in complete shock

:02:14. > :02:16.

:02:16. > :02:19.and devastation. He was 30 years old and Abdul was 31 years old.

:02:19. > :02:23.They were hard-working young men. Police said they have had a good

:02:23. > :02:28.response from people, but need more help from those who witnessed the

:02:28. > :02:32.disturbances. In order to ensure justice is brought against the

:02:32. > :02:36.offenders as swiftly as possible, it is absolutely critical the

:02:36. > :02:41.communities continue to provide that support and that essential

:02:41. > :02:45.evidence and information that has been so forthcoming so far. In the

:02:45. > :02:50.capital, the Metropolitan Police say they have arrested more than

:02:50. > :02:53.1,200 people in connection with the riots. As a result, magistrates are

:02:53. > :02:59.sitting until 8pm tonight and tomorrow to do with defendants as

:02:59. > :03:01.they come through the system. One of those in court was accused of

:03:01. > :03:05.robbing this Malaysia and students in Barking. These pictures caused

:03:06. > :03:10.an outcry when they were broadcast. The Prime Minister said he felt

:03:10. > :03:16.disgusted when he saw them. 20 old Reece Donovan is accused of taking

:03:16. > :03:20.a phone and a portable PlayStation from a bleeding and dazed boy. He

:03:20. > :03:24.was remanded in custody. A week after the trouble, the Chancellor

:03:24. > :03:29.has reiterated the Government's point, that the underlying cause of

:03:29. > :03:33.the riot was not about a lack of money for the police or the public.

:03:33. > :03:37.It is not just a question of money. If it were, it would have been

:03:37. > :03:42.solved years ago. It is a much more deep-seated, cultural change we

:03:42. > :03:46.need to bring about. This afternoon, the Metropolitan Police released

:03:46. > :03:50.more pictures of those they want to trace in connection with violence,

:03:51. > :03:54.disorder and looting. Sangita Myska is in Ealing where a

:03:54. > :04:04.vigil is due to take place for 68- year-old Richard Bowes, who was

:04:04. > :04:04.

:04:04. > :04:08.killed during the riots. It was just up this street Richard

:04:08. > :04:12.Mannington Bowes was murdered. He is being hailed locally as a hero,

:04:12. > :04:16.somebody who stood up for what was right and in the face of everything

:04:16. > :04:20.that was wrong on Monday night. The community is trying to rebuild

:04:20. > :04:24.itself. These are just some of the messages that have been going up on

:04:24. > :04:29.the front of shops that have been looted in Ealing. The organisers of

:04:29. > :04:33.this vigil say they will be saying prayers not just for Richard

:04:33. > :04:36.Mannington Bowes, but offering this community a chance to reflect on a

:04:36. > :04:40.turbulent week. Basic confidence has been lost and they want people

:04:40. > :04:45.to come out and reclaim Ealing, just as people have been across

:04:45. > :04:49.London. But those I have been speaking to say they are concerned.

:04:49. > :04:54.Concerned about what happens next, especially on Monday when it is

:04:54. > :04:57.expected police numbers will be scaled back across London.

:04:57. > :05:00.Rebel fighters in Libya have taken control of a town in the west of

:05:00. > :05:04.the country following a large scale assault. Commanders say they pushed

:05:04. > :05:07.into Tawargha, east of the city of Misrata to try and halt rocket

:05:07. > :05:17.attacks by Colonel Gaddafi's forces. From there, Orla Guerin sent this

:05:17. > :05:22.report. Closing in on Tawargha. The rebels

:05:22. > :05:28.pushed across the desert and filmed their advance. They say it was

:05:28. > :05:33.closely co-ordinated with NATO. This town was a key target for the

:05:33. > :05:38.rebels. From here, Colonel Gaddafi's men have been firing

:05:38. > :05:42.long-range rockets, terrorising the city of Misrata for months. When we

:05:42. > :05:49.arrived, fires were still burning, the rebels still not in complete

:05:49. > :05:54.control. But this man from Misrata was convinced his home town would

:05:54. > :05:57.be safe. I am so happy. I can sleep well and

:05:57. > :06:03.the children can sleep well. They can play every word and not be

:06:03. > :06:10.afraid. They can do anything. showed us some of the enemy

:06:10. > :06:16.positions, abandoned at speed. So they ran in a hurry? No, they ran

:06:16. > :06:20.and they forgot everything. Just escaping. These trenches were dug

:06:20. > :06:24.by Colonel Gaddafi's forces to protect their positions. They have

:06:24. > :06:30.left behind heavy artillery shells and I can see bottles of water and

:06:30. > :06:35.empty food cartons. They had done in here for a long stay. Some were

:06:35. > :06:40.still holding out in pockets. Rebel fighters Huntingdon district by

:06:40. > :06:50.district. In recent days the rebels have advanced on three fronts, but

:06:50. > :06:53.

:06:53. > :06:56.gains here often don't last long. England can boast of being the No 1

:06:56. > :07:00.cricket side in the world of the crushing India in the third Test at

:07:00. > :07:06.Edgbaston. India have held the honour, but they were outplayed by

:07:06. > :07:10.England. On top of the cricketing world.

:07:10. > :07:16.Barely a decade ago England were officially the worst Test side, now

:07:17. > :07:21.they are officially the best. Earlier, the fans had flocked in

:07:21. > :07:25.fancy dress, a blend of the strange and the even stranger. There was

:07:25. > :07:30.only one decent impression of a cricket team. Jimmy Anderson

:07:30. > :07:35.blowing away the Indian batting with three early wickets. And when

:07:35. > :07:40.Sachin Tendulkar was run out for 40, India's hopes of any respectability

:07:40. > :07:45.seemed to go with him. Some hitting at last gave them something to

:07:46. > :07:49.cheer about, but it still did not dampen England's party as they

:07:49. > :07:54.sealed their moment of history. A country once a byword for

:07:54. > :07:59.mediocrity, now the best in the business. I am very proud of the

:07:59. > :08:03.way the guys played under pressure. These are big series and you either

:08:03. > :08:07.come out smelling of roses or it does not work out your weight.

:08:07. > :08:12.Thankfully we have been in the ascendancy. English cricket has

:08:12. > :08:22.seen some lows, but today it scaled the heights. No. 1 in the world,

:08:22. > :08:25.

:08:25. > :08:28.and in this form, richly deserved. The veteran Broadcaster, Robert

:08:28. > :08:31.Robinson, has died in hospital in London at the age of 83. He was

:08:32. > :08:41.probably best known for his role in presenting Ask the Family, Call My

:08:41. > :08:45.Bluff and Brain of Britain. When the BBC wanted someone to

:08:46. > :08:49.present the first programme of people's letters, Robert Robinson

:08:49. > :08:54.was the best choice. I will be reading your own letters and I hope

:08:54. > :08:59.they will be critical and frightfully disobedience and help

:08:59. > :09:04.save television from complacency. He delighted in awkward questions.

:09:04. > :09:07.MS Mansfield I know you won't think I am rude if I say, a visit to you

:09:07. > :09:12.it is like a visit to the Tower of London, you are both institutions.

:09:12. > :09:17.I wonder what it feels like to belong to the public? Some of them

:09:17. > :09:22.gave back as good as they got. feel the same way as the Tower of

:09:23. > :09:27.London Fields. This goes on to your buttocks, loosen your trousers.

:09:27. > :09:34.could make fun of himself. He travelled round India starting in

:09:34. > :09:39.the BBC doctor's surgery getting his injections. On radio, he used

:09:39. > :09:44.his wit and idiosyncrasy, presenting the Today programme in

:09:44. > :09:54.1973 on the day Britain entered the Common Market. Will the British

:09:54. > :09:56.

:09:56. > :10:04.streets before Frenchman forcing butter on passers-by. No, not

:10:04. > :10:08.really, the outside world or little evidence about the bacon and eggs

:10:08. > :10:13.and a Sunday and not Dutch cheese will be served in Britain.

:10:13. > :10:17.style of programme-making went out of fashion and he has been accused

:10:17. > :10:21.of sneering. Eventually he was left behind as television became more

:10:21. > :10:27.informal and less respectful. He turned to presenting quiz shows,

:10:27. > :10:31.Brain of Britain, ask the family and Call My Bluff. People think all

:10:31. > :10:37.those names and all that has been said is the start of the game, that
