:00:18. > :00:21.Good afternoon. The uprising in Libya against

:00:21. > :00:24.Colonel Gaddafi has entered a new phase with a gun battles erupting

:00:24. > :00:27.during the night in several areas of Tripoli. Hours after rebel

:00:27. > :00:33.forces had secured the key city of Zawiya, 30 miles away, heavy

:00:33. > :00:43.gunfire and explosions resounded across the capital. From Tripoli,

:00:43. > :00:48.Matthew Price reports. The rebels called it zero hour.

:00:48. > :00:53.This, they said, was the start of the uprising in Tripoli, the final

:00:53. > :00:58.battle to control Libya. Distant gunfire and explosions echoed

:00:58. > :01:04.across the city as opposition and pro-Gadaffi forces fought fierce

:01:04. > :01:09.battles. Colonel Gaddafi spoke on state television. He told them the

:01:09. > :01:15.rats, his term for the rebels, had been eliminated. I know you are

:01:15. > :01:21.happy, he told his supporters. And on state television, the presenter

:01:21. > :01:26.said she would shoot any rebels who tried to take over the station. The

:01:26. > :01:31.last time we saw Colonel Gaddafi was months ago. The pressure is

:01:31. > :01:36.increasing on him. Today, the Foreign Office said a NATO jet had

:01:36. > :01:41.played a significant role in the last 24 hours. NATO's mandate is to

:01:41. > :01:46.protect civilians, but it is clear, without its help, the rebels would

:01:46. > :01:51.not be a strong as they are now. To the West, rebel forces have now

:01:51. > :01:56.consolidated their hold on the city of Zawiya. They have had a week of

:01:56. > :01:59.fierce battles there, but they are now advancing towards Tripoli. How

:02:00. > :02:05.far they get will tell us how strong pro-Gadaffi force is really

:02:05. > :02:10.are. Matthew joins me now live from

:02:10. > :02:15.Tripoli. What is the latest? It has been a relatively quiet morning

:02:15. > :02:20.although in the last few minutes I have heard a loud explosions behind

:02:20. > :02:25.me in Tripoli itself and the sound of some gunfire. It is clear there

:02:25. > :02:29.is fighting going on. I also understand that not only are rebels

:02:29. > :02:33.advancing from the West, moving up the road with one of our BBC

:02:33. > :02:39.correspondents, they also coming up from the south of here, trying to

:02:39. > :02:43.get as close as they can to the capital. The rebels are claiming

:02:43. > :02:47.they have been deaths amongst Colonel Gaddafi's troops and others.

:02:47. > :02:51.Some are saying this is the end game. If it is not to be for

:02:51. > :02:55.Colonel Gaddafi, he will have to strike back hard and that is

:02:55. > :02:58.presumably what we heard last night, fierce clashes to stamp out

:02:58. > :03:01.opposition here in the capital. Thank you.

:03:01. > :03:03.The RAF has confirmed that it is grounding all Hawk T-one jets

:03:03. > :03:06.whilst it carries out an investigation into yesterday's

:03:06. > :03:09.crash. Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging was killed in the accident just

:03:09. > :03:16.outside Bournemouth. RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire is home of the Red

:03:16. > :03:21.Arrows and Danny Savage is there for us now.

:03:21. > :03:25.Many people have described the Red Arrows here at RAF Scampton as the

:03:25. > :03:30.lifeblood of the base. They are the main operational flying unit here.

:03:30. > :03:34.All morning, people have been coming to lay flowers and paid

:03:34. > :03:39.tribute to people they have got to know in the community. One tribute

:03:39. > :03:43.says, to the family. They are a close-knit team. We understand they

:03:43. > :03:49.are still in Bournemouth as inquiries continue following
