:00:09. > :00:13.Rebel forces in Libya pile the pressure Colonel Gaddafi's regime.

:00:13. > :00:21.Opposition fighters are just a few miles from the capital, Tripoli. We

:00:21. > :00:26.report from the front line. Very, very fire coming over the top of

:00:27. > :00:31.our head tos. Having had an easy ride early on, now the rebels seem

:00:31. > :00:34.to have met some proper resistance. As rebels vow to continue their

:00:34. > :00:40.advance on the capital, the Libyan government says it will fight to

:00:40. > :00:45.defend Tripoli. We know that people commit even scared in their houses

:00:45. > :00:49.at this very moment, they do not want us to give up, because giving

:00:49. > :00:52.up means that such gangs will control the country.

:00:52. > :00:58.All RAF Hawk aircraft are grounded as tributes are paid to the Red

:00:58. > :01:00.Arrows pilot killed in yesterday's crash in Dorset.

:01:01. > :01:10.And England need seven more wickets to secure a series white-wash

:01:11. > :01:18.

:01:18. > :01:23.Good evening. The Libyan government has vowed to fight until the end as

:01:23. > :01:27.it tries to halt a rebel advance on Tripoli. Gun battles have erupted

:01:27. > :01:33.in several parts of the capital over the past 24 hours. Today,

:01:33. > :01:38.rebels are closing in on Tripoli From the east, after taking control

:01:38. > :01:41.of Zlitan. And from the west, after taking Zawiya. This morning the

:01:41. > :01:46.main rebel forces got within 17 miles of Tripoli and clashed with

:01:46. > :01:51.pro-Gaddafi forces. They were then forced back a few miles, where the

:01:51. > :01:58.front line is now. Our correspondent has been on the front

:01:58. > :02:02.line and reports from Zawiya. There is no doubt where these

:02:02. > :02:06.rebels think they are going. To Tripoli. On the road ahead,

:02:06. > :02:12.discarded uniforms from Gaddafi soldiers who had fled minutes

:02:12. > :02:17.before. Hundreds of rebels are now on the march towards the capital

:02:17. > :02:21.and they believe the end is now close. Six months ago, these were

:02:21. > :02:29.students and electricians, even dentists. Now they are united by

:02:29. > :02:37.one thing. Today, Tripoli! How do you feel? Every happy, my friend.

:02:37. > :02:42.Because we are going to take his BEEP out of his... Wherever he is...

:02:42. > :02:48.In this small town we meet incoming sniper fire. But the rebels keep

:02:48. > :02:53.moving forward. As they advance, the flags are changed. Now just 30

:02:54. > :03:03.kilometres from Tripoli, we enter another small town. The rebels are

:03:04. > :03:14.

:03:14. > :03:20.welcomed as liberators. Libya! Libya! Libby yet!

:03:20. > :03:30.kilometre exactly from his place! We are going there! We will be

:03:30. > :03:30.

:03:30. > :03:38.there in 20 minutes! OK! Freedom! Yeah! But the optimism is misplaced.

:03:38. > :03:48.Suddenly everyone is running for cover, bullets flying overhead.

:03:48. > :03:49.

:03:49. > :03:54.GUNFIRE. We have just come down the road a bit further towards Tripoli.

:03:54. > :03:59.You can hear above me, the incoming sniper fire, very heavy, over the

:03:59. > :04:05.top of our heads. Having had a relatively easy ride early on, the

:04:05. > :04:09.rebels now seem to have met some proper resistants.

:04:09. > :04:19.GUNFIRE. The rebels are taking casualties

:04:19. > :04:20.

:04:20. > :04:29.and it is time for us to leave. Panic turns to chaos.

:04:29. > :04:34.Go, go! Drive! Go, go!

:04:34. > :04:38.The rebels are now in full retreat. As they fall back, the prospect of

:04:38. > :04:46.making it to Tripoli by night or evaporate. The fight for the

:04:46. > :04:49.capital will be harder than they thought.

:04:49. > :04:54.The Libyan government has remained defiant in the face of the rebel

:04:54. > :04:57.advances. A spokesman, Moussa Ibrahim, has called for an

:04:57. > :05:02.immediate ceasefire, warning of bloodshed on the streets if the

:05:02. > :05:07.rebels continued. This report from Tripoli.

:05:07. > :05:13.The rebels called in zero hour. The dawn of Libya, they chanted, as

:05:13. > :05:16.they moved off, taking the fight to Colonel Gaddafi's forces. We cannot

:05:16. > :05:22.verify this footage but we know that in places across the Libyan

:05:22. > :05:25.capital, there has been fierce fighting between both sides.

:05:25. > :05:29.Colonel Gaddafi spoke on state television as the fighting

:05:29. > :05:35.continued. He told them the rats, his term for the rebels, had been

:05:35. > :05:39.eliminated. I know you are happy, he told his supporters.

:05:39. > :05:43.On state television, the presenter said she would shoot any rebels who

:05:44. > :05:50.tried to take over the station. But at a press conference with the

:05:50. > :05:55.Government Information Minister, the tone was less defined. --

:05:55. > :06:05.defiant. We are here to, sincerely, as always, appealed for an

:06:05. > :06:06.

:06:06. > :06:11.immediate ceasefire... An immediate halt of NATO's aggression against

:06:11. > :06:16.our mission. The last time we saw Colonel Gaddafi was months ago. The

:06:16. > :06:20.pressure is increasing on him. Today the Foreign Office said NATO

:06:20. > :06:25.jets had played as significant role in the last 24 hours. Its mandate

:06:25. > :06:29.is to protect civilians but it is clear, without NATO's help, the

:06:29. > :06:33.rebels would not be as strong as they are on now. The fighting in

:06:33. > :06:40.Tripoli has been going on throughout the day. There has just

:06:40. > :06:44.been another sustained burst of gunfire and a large explosion. A

:06:44. > :06:48.senior government source has told me there of 65,000 professional

:06:48. > :06:52.soldiers ready to defend the city and he also told me the tribes are

:06:52. > :06:58.beginning to defend their own in Tripoli itself. He predicted all-

:06:58. > :07:03.out tribal warfare, and massacred even, if the rebels arrive. Around

:07:03. > :07:06.this city, the rebels have been marching towards Tripoli. There are

:07:06. > :07:11.reports they have managed to take over a major military base to the

:07:11. > :07:15.west of here, home to one of the best trained units in Libya. The

:07:15. > :07:20.government is losing its grip on power but what comes next may not

:07:20. > :07:25.be this mood regime changed the West would like to see. -- this

:07:25. > :07:31.move regime change. Let's go live to our correspondent

:07:31. > :07:40.in his rata. The rebels do seem to have the upper hand, can we say? --

:07:40. > :07:47.in his Misrata. On the eastern front, we have not

:07:47. > :07:51.seen advances today. We went back to the town of Zlitan, the rebels

:07:51. > :07:55.took that on Friday. They have not managed to push much beyond it

:07:55. > :07:59.because they are still facing resistance and even at the edge of

:07:59. > :08:04.town, there were exchanges of fire taking place and the rebels were

:08:04. > :08:06.still catching Gaddafi loyalists there. They showed us a carload of

:08:06. > :08:10.prisoners who they said were mercenaries from Chad who had just

:08:11. > :08:14.been taken and one of the men was pleading not to be beaten. The

:08:14. > :08:18.rebels reassuring him that nobody would hurt him. The fight as we

:08:18. > :08:22.spoke to said they were very anxious to get to Tripoli -- the

:08:22. > :08:27.fighters. If that they wanted to support their brothers in arms, as

:08:27. > :08:30.they called them, and they said they had given them a tremendous

:08:30. > :08:34.morale-booster and rebel officials are telling us the orders have been

:08:34. > :08:39.given, that the men have been told to go forward, but they also say

:08:39. > :08:43.that progress will depend on resistance and there is a fair

:08:43. > :08:49.amount of territory to recover, almost 100 miles between Zlitan and

:08:49. > :08:51.Tripoli, but the rebels are saying there is no shortage of fighters

:08:51. > :08:55.and they are leaving putting together a new unit of volunteers

:08:55. > :08:59.from Zlitan who want to go to the capital and if they they have

:08:59. > :09:05.received fresh ammunition in the last few days. There was also a

:09:05. > :09:11.claim today that the rebels have managed to send a boatload of

:09:11. > :09:15.people from Misrata and they managed to reach Tripoli but so far,

:09:15. > :09:18.that is the claim we have not been able to confirm. The message from

:09:18. > :09:22.the Eastern Front is that they want to advance, the orders have been

:09:22. > :09:26.given, they are ready to do so but they do expect resistance along the

:09:26. > :09:30.way and I don't think the progress on this side will be anything like

:09:30. > :09:36.as swift as the progress we have seen in and around Zawiya.

:09:36. > :09:39.Thank you. The RAF has grounded the Hawk

:09:39. > :09:43.aircraft flown by the Red Arrows, while an investigation is carried

:09:43. > :09:47.out into the death of one of its pilots during a display. Flight

:09:47. > :09:50.Lieutenant Jon Egging crashed at the Bournemouth Air Show yesterday.

:09:50. > :09:56.RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire it is the home of the Red Arrows.

:09:56. > :10:01.Danny Savage is there. This is the place the Red Arrows call home.

:10:01. > :10:04.Their formal name, the Royal Air Force aerobatic team, is top of the

:10:04. > :10:08.list of units based here and it is not unusual for people to stand

:10:08. > :10:13.around the perimeter fence and watch the Red Arrows practising

:10:13. > :10:17.their fast flying at various times during the display season, but

:10:17. > :10:22.today people have been coming instead to pay their respects after

:10:22. > :10:25.yesterday's crash in Dorset. At the scene of the Red Arrows

:10:25. > :10:32.crash near Bournemouth, investigators are now trying to

:10:32. > :10:38.work out what went wrong. Why did an elite RAF pilot died? One

:10:38. > :10:45.experienced fast jet pilot suggests several possibilities for.

:10:46. > :10:50.Everything from aircraft mechanical failure, fuel starvation, piloting

:10:50. > :10:57.incapacitation, distraction. There is a lift, anything you can think

:10:57. > :11:02.of, is what they will be looking at. The Hawk jets and those used by the

:11:02. > :11:06.rest of the RAF have now been grounded as part of the inquiry. In

:11:06. > :11:12.their 40s 60 history, the Red Arrows have performed more than

:11:12. > :11:17.4,000 displays in over 50 countries -- 46 year history. For the last 20

:11:17. > :11:23.years, they have used the Hawk T1. The team have only ever had one of

:11:23. > :11:27.fatal accident with this aircraft. But last year, the fleet was

:11:27. > :11:33.grounded over problems with the ejector seat. At the Bournemouth

:11:33. > :11:40.Air Show today, one minute's silence. Many wore red clothes as a

:11:40. > :11:47.tribute. The error -- aerobatic team were supposed to fly again

:11:47. > :11:51.came to lay flowers. There was a strong affection for the team which

:11:51. > :11:56.practices here most days of the week. One local MP says the Red

:11:56. > :12:01.Arrows must commit in time, take to the skies again. I know they have

:12:01. > :12:06.taken a casualty but they will not be defeated by the inevitable

:12:06. > :12:09.sorrow. They will get on with it a. But for now, the thoughts of the

:12:10. > :12:16.community of with the wife and family of Flight Lieutenant Jon

:12:16. > :12:21.Egging. One person here wrote "you get so much pleasure to so many,

:12:21. > :12:24.one of the few". The Ministry of Defence say the Red

:12:24. > :12:29.Arrows are very unlikely to be flying any of their displays for

:12:29. > :12:33.the next week or so. In the last 20 minutes, some of their pilots

:12:33. > :12:38.returned here and came out to look at some of the tributes. They ask

:12:38. > :12:42.specifically not to be filled. Some of them were visibly upset but they

:12:42. > :12:45.also seemed to be gaining some comfort from the outpouring of

:12:45. > :12:52.public support that this world- famous group of players have been

:12:52. > :12:56.getting over the last 24 hours. Protests have continued for a

:12:56. > :12:59.second day outside the Israeli embassy in Cairo. Demonstrators are

:12:59. > :13:03.angry over the deaths of five Egyptian policemen, who were killed

:13:03. > :13:06.as Israeli forces targeted Palestinian militants on Thursday.

:13:06. > :13:09.There have been several rocket exchanges around the Gaza strip

:13:09. > :13:15.over the past few days, after eight Israelis were killed in a series of

:13:15. > :13:20.attacks. The femme de seven people killed in

:13:20. > :13:24.Norway last month have been remembered in Oslo -- 77 people.

:13:24. > :13:29.Families of the victims attended the service, along with Norway's

:13:29. > :13:39.Royal Family and leading politicians. This marks and end of

:13:39. > :13:45.

:13:45. > :13:50.This was nowhere's answer to Anders Breivik's terror. -- Norway's. The

:13:50. > :13:54.song of remembrance. In the audience, it hear where the Nobel

:13:54. > :14:02.Peace Prize is awarded, with a family members of his victims. And

:14:02. > :14:06.those Norwegians who had survived the attacks. King Harald V of

:14:06. > :14:12.Norway declared that freedom was stronger than fear. Norwegians, he

:14:12. > :14:18.said would continue to live freely and openly. Earlier, politicians

:14:18. > :14:22.and foreign dignitaries had laid flowers outside Oslo Cathedral.

:14:22. > :14:26.With today's ceremony here in Oslo, Norway brings to an end what has

:14:26. > :14:31.been a month of morning. The hope now is that that an Asian

:14:31. > :14:35.traumatised by acts of terror can start to move on -- a nation. In

:14:35. > :14:39.jail, Anders Breivik is to be kept in total isolation for another four

:14:39. > :14:46.weeks. He has confessed to the car bomb that killed eight people in

:14:46. > :14:51.Oslo. He admits shooting 69 people on the Utoeya island, but doesn't

:14:52. > :14:57.see it as a crime. This weekend, the boats to its Utopia was sailing

:14:57. > :15:03.again. Those who fled the island a month ago came back and tried to

:15:03. > :15:06.come to terms with what happened -- Utopia. Adrian Pracon was shot by

:15:06. > :15:10.Anders Breivik but survived. He was nervous about coming back but was

:15:10. > :15:16.glad he did. This will be an enormous help for me in the future,

:15:16. > :15:21.to know that I have been here again, I have returned, with a smile on my

:15:21. > :15:29.face and that here in my eye. But I do feel that this was very good for

:15:29. > :15:33.me and very good for many others -- 8 here in my life. This lady was on

:15:33. > :15:38.the island that day as well. When she heard gunshots, she hid beneath

:15:38. > :15:41.the bed. A we have cried so much, I have no tears left. And I don't

:15:41. > :15:49.want to cry anymore. Tomorrow, we have to start living our lives

:15:49. > :15:52.again and I think this will be a great pleasure for us. But at the

:15:52. > :15:59.end of the memorial service, there were tears, as the victims' names

:15:59. > :16:07.by read out. 77 people killed by one man. -- were read out. Norway

:16:07. > :16:11.will try to move on but what Anders Breivik did has left deep scars.

:16:11. > :16:16.A leading human rights lawyer is planning to challenge got an's

:16:16. > :16:20.university funding system. Phil Shiner says changing tuition fees -

:16:20. > :16:23.- charging tuition fees to English students is unlawful and breaches

:16:23. > :16:27.the Human Rights Act. The Scottish government has defended its policy

:16:27. > :16:35.and says it is acting lawfully. Raymond Buchanan is in Glasgow.

:16:35. > :16:38.What do we know about this? Well, keeping Scottish Universities

:16:39. > :16:42.free up tuition fees has been a key policy of the Scottish government.

:16:42. > :16:47.Alex Salmond has promised the rocks will melt with the sun before he

:16:47. > :16:50.charges students based in Scotland for going to university, but that

:16:50. > :16:54.guarantee doesn't extend to students from other parts of the

:16:54. > :16:57.United Kingdom. From next year, for instance, if you want to go to this

:16:57. > :17:01.university and off from England you could be charged up to 9,000 per

:17:01. > :17:06.year, whereas your Scottish counterparts would study for free.

:17:06. > :17:10.That system now looks likely to be tested in the courts. The Phil

:17:10. > :17:16.Shiner says there is discrimination in the way that different people

:17:16. > :17:21.are treated in parts of the UK, and it may well preach the Human Rights

:17:21. > :17:24.Act and equality laws. The Scottish government say they are positive

:17:24. > :17:27.that their policy is lawful and are not discriminating on whether you

:17:27. > :17:30.are English or whether you'd normally live in Scotland. If you

:17:30. > :17:35.are English and live here, you will study for free.

:17:35. > :17:40.There, with the sports news of the day, here is Oliver Foster.

:17:40. > :17:43.It promises to be exciting day in the Test series tomorrow. England

:17:43. > :17:52.bowled India out and fog -- forced them to follow on today. At the

:17:52. > :17:56.close, the tourists were 129-three, still 162 runs behind.

:17:56. > :17:58.England are preparing for a day of bowling in fitting fashion. The

:17:59. > :18:03.bowling in fitting fashion. The Indian batsmen have been built on

:18:03. > :18:07.sand this series. But at least they had their the Rock. Rahul Dravid

:18:07. > :18:13.has been the idea man close to being reliable. At the other end,

:18:13. > :18:17.the crumble went on. MS Dhoni Khan and India in another fine mess. But

:18:17. > :18:22.Rahul Dravid was playing the straight man, moving to another

:18:22. > :18:25.century while his team-mates have yet to get one between them. He

:18:25. > :18:30.inspired and it miche rhetoric -- take some initiative and the pair

:18:30. > :18:35.of them made things challenging for England. But once again, at they

:18:35. > :18:42.reacted and specifically Ian Bell. When you are playing well, these

:18:42. > :18:46.just stick. Stuart Broad accounting for another, India getting to 300

:18:46. > :18:50.but no further. Rahul Dravid remained unbeaten but got no time

:18:50. > :18:55.for a rest. England asked him and his team to follow on so out he

:18:55. > :18:59.came again. This time, his resistance was ended by Graeme

:18:59. > :19:04.Swann. Perhaps even the umpire couldn't believe it was true, as it

:19:04. > :19:09.needed a review to finally sent him on his way. India needed someone

:19:09. > :19:14.similarly stubborn. The Virender Sehwag was not it and neither was

:19:14. > :19:16.VVS Laxman. -- Virender Sehwag. Unless they find some grip from

:19:16. > :19:19.Unless they find some grip from somewhere, England will have the

:19:20. > :19:23.whitewash. Manchester City have made it two

:19:23. > :19:29.wins out of two and Bartok from the Premier -- top of the Premier

:19:29. > :19:32.League after winning at Bolton. Gareth Barry getting their pick of

:19:33. > :19:36.the goals. Ivan Klasnic pulled one back before a Edin Dzeko and scored

:19:36. > :19:41.the decisive goal. Kevin Davies the decisive goal. Kevin Davies

:19:41. > :19:46.pulled one back but City held on for the win. Elsewhere, Kenwyne

:19:46. > :19:48.Jones scored an injury-time equaliser for Stoke at Norwich. And

:19:48. > :19:54.it is two wins out of two for Wolverhampton Wanderers, as they go

:19:54. > :19:57.second in the table. Rangers are top of the Scottish

:19:57. > :20:00.Premier League for the first time this season after a win away at

:20:00. > :20:05.another one up. Gregg Wylde scoring his first for the club. -- at

:20:05. > :20:09.Motherwell. That saw Rangers' lead from Motherwell in the table.

:20:09. > :20:13.Celtic could have gone top of but lost to St Johnstone for the first

:20:13. > :20:15.time in 12 years. Dave Mackay's winner was also the first goal
