:01:25. > :01:28.David Cameron and the other members of the G8 group of leading nations,
:01:28. > :01:32.including the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, claim to have found
:01:32. > :01:36.common ground on solving the eurozone crisis, all accepting that
:01:36. > :01:40.growth can be achieved in tandem with financial discipline and
:01:40. > :01:45.austerity. But there's one major sticking point. They still differ
:01:45. > :01:48.on how that growth is best achieved. From the G8 in the United States,
:01:48. > :01:53.Norman Smith's just sent this report.
:01:53. > :01:58.The jumpers said it all. A summit where the dress sense of G8 leaders
:01:58. > :02:01.was nearly as varied as their views on saving the euro.
:02:01. > :02:07.The hope had been that the relatively informal setting of Camp
:02:07. > :02:15.David might have helped them to put their differences to one side.
:02:15. > :02:18.All of us are absolutely committed to making sure that both growth and
:02:18. > :02:23.stability and fiscal consolidation are part of an overall package that
:02:23. > :02:28.we all have to pursue. David Cameron and President Obama even

:03:00. > :03:06.German money is regarded as the key to any rescue plan. Perhaps not
:03:06. > :03:09.surprisingly, Mrs Merkel disagrees. We need both. Budgetary discipline,
:03:09. > :03:15.consolidation and all efforts for growth at the same time which is
:03:15. > :03:18.mutually conditional. That means it's important to work on both
:03:18. > :03:21.parts. All participants made that clear and I believe it's
:03:21. > :03:26.significant progress. As if to underline the lack of a
:03:26. > :03:32.clear direction, G8 leaders and their summit communique conceded
:03:32. > :03:35.that different measures might now be needed in different countries.
:03:35. > :03:39.We can speak to Norman now. As you mentioned there, there has been
:03:39. > :03:44.this communique from the G8, but really, is there any more substance
:03:44. > :03:48.to it than the words on the paper at the moment?
:03:48. > :03:51.Well, this communique is meant to send a message to the markets that
:03:51. > :03:55.the eurozone countries are determined to defend their currency
:03:55. > :04:01.and keep Greece within the euro. But therein lies the problem. It's
:04:01. > :04:04.a message, it's not an action plan. It's entirely questionable whether
:04:04. > :04:09.messages, mere words are anywhere near sufficient now to reassure the
:04:09. > :04:12.markets. It seems to me what this summit has revealed, despite this
:04:12. > :04:17.compromise communique, is that among the key players, there
:04:17. > :04:20.remains significant disagreements over how to respond to the eurozone
:04:20. > :04:25.crisis in terms of what measures are needed, who should pay for them
:04:25. > :04:29.and how quickly they should be implemented. On that last point,
:04:29. > :04:34.tonight Government sources are warning that any potential deal on
