:00:23. > :00:27.Good afternoon. The Government is to investigate

:00:27. > :00:32.the decision of a Labour-run council to remove three children

:00:32. > :00:34.from their foster parents because the couple of members of the UK

:00:34. > :00:41.Independence Party. Rotherham Metropolitan Borough

:00:41. > :00:45.Council said it was concerned about the party's opposition to multi

:00:45. > :00:50.curlism. Nigel Farage described the decision as appalling.

:00:50. > :00:54.The couple who have not been named have been fostering for almost

:00:54. > :00:58.seven years and described as exemplary foster parents N

:00:58. > :01:01.September they began to care for three children in a placement

:01:01. > :01:06.arranged by the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. The

:01:06. > :01:10.boy and the two girls are described as being from an EU-migrant

:01:10. > :01:14.background. Then the couple say that the children were removed from

:01:14. > :01:18.them as they belonged to the UK Independence Party. The woman said

:01:18. > :01:22.she was told by a social worker that the views on immigration made

:01:22. > :01:26.them unsuitable carers for the children. She asked what UKIP had

:01:26. > :01:29.to do with having the children removed and said that the

:01:29. > :01:32.implication was that they were racist.

:01:32. > :01:36.The council say it is does not believe that UK Independence Party

:01:36. > :01:40.is a racist party, but that the views of immigration must be taken

:01:40. > :01:44.into account. In terms of practise issues we have

:01:44. > :01:51.to think about the statement on ending multiculturalism. These

:01:51. > :01:55.children from EU-migrant back grounds and the UKIP has statements

:01:55. > :02:00.on multiculturalism. I have to think about how sensitive I am to

:02:00. > :02:04.the beliefs for those children. UK Independence Party describes

:02:04. > :02:09.itself as a non-racist party. They were giving those children,

:02:09. > :02:14.love, stability, all that they need to go on and proceed in life. They

:02:14. > :02:20.have been discriminated against by a Labour-run council on the basis

:02:20. > :02:23.that they support a party that says we should not be a part of the

:02:23. > :02:27.European Union and we should control our borders.

:02:27. > :02:32.Labour says there has been an investigation into the removal of

:02:32. > :02:37.the children. Michael Gove has described the decision of the

:02:37. > :02:43.council as indefensible. Alan Soady is with me in the studio.

:02:43. > :02:47.What has the reaction been to this? Well, we have heard from the

:02:47. > :02:51.Rotherham Koun council, that they are launching an investigation into

:02:51. > :02:56.this. The council leader say that the decision was taken by experts,

:02:56. > :03:00.but they have to get to the bottom of what happened. Earlier on, Ed

:03:00. > :03:04.Miliband said that there should be an investigation into this as well.

:03:04. > :03:09.This is a Labour-run council. He said that it would be wrong for

:03:09. > :03:14.anyone not to be allowed to be a member of a political party and to

:03:14. > :03:19.adopt or foster children. Also, from Michael Gove, the Education

:03:19. > :03:24.Secretary, he too is going to launch an investigation and he has

:03:24. > :03:27.described this as indefensible. You can see the sort of arguments that

:03:27. > :03:32.are beginning to develop as a result of this, but in terms of

:03:32. > :03:36.both Labour and the Conservatives, they are agreed that the decision

:03:36. > :03:39.was wrong, that you should be allowed to be a member of the UK

:03:39. > :03:44.Independence Party and foster children, but that inquiry will get

:03:44. > :03:48.to the bottom of things. Rotherham council say there are things that

:03:48. > :03:53.we still don't know about the case. Muslim Council of Britain of the --

:03:53. > :03:56.much of the UK is braced for high winds and heavy rain with more than

:03:56. > :04:01.50 flood warnings in place in England and Wales. More than an

:04:01. > :04:08.inch of rain is forecast in the Midlands, Cumbria and the south-

:04:08. > :04:12.west of England. Chris Eakin is by the Keynsham on

:04:12. > :04:22.the Somerset-Gloucestershire border. Chris, what is it like there? Well,

:04:22. > :04:26.there is an example of this problem, there is a 4x4 vehicle, that is

:04:26. > :04:32.trapped around this water. This is an area of flooding, the

:04:32. > :04:36.locals say that they have not seen it like this for a good decade. The

:04:36. > :04:40.river is swol and still flowing. That is the danger around many

:04:40. > :04:44.parts of the United Kingdom, that the river systems will not cope

:04:44. > :04:49.with the rain that is forecast to come in the day. There are a number

:04:49. > :04:53.of warnings that have dropped. So they have now dropped to 44. They

:04:53. > :04:57.are now all in England. Scotland lost their warnings a while ago.

:04:57. > :05:02.Wales does not have a warning. In the south-west and the Midlands,

:05:02. > :05:06.they have most of the warnings, but around the UK, there are swollen

:05:06. > :05:11.rivers and a lot of rain to come today.

:05:11. > :05:16.Football and Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the appointment of

:05:16. > :05:19.Harry Redknapp as the new manager. He replaces Mark Hughes, dismissed

:05:19. > :05:24.yesterday. The club is at the bottom of the

:05:24. > :05:30.Barclays Premier League. Larry Hagman, the actor best-known

:05:30. > :05:32.to millions for playing JR Ewing in the TV hit, Dallas, has died. He

:05:32. > :05:39.was 81 and had been suffering from cancer.

:05:39. > :05:46.For many, Larry Hagman was and will forever be, JR Ewing, the ruthless,

:05:46. > :05:51.but charismatic star of Dallas. Stay out of my affair, Pamela.

:05:51. > :05:56.slime. You make me sick. It was Dallas that made him a star.

:05:56. > :06:03.He said it made him 40 million. The characters came and went, but

:06:03. > :06:07.he was in all of the 335 episodes. Such was the hysteria over the

:06:07. > :06:12.famous, Who Shot ER?, that extra security was organised when the

:06:12. > :06:19.programme's tape arrived in Britain. The saga built an international

:06:19. > :06:24.following and inspired a spin-off, Imtairs, revived this year with

:06:24. > :06:30.Larry Hagman again playing JR Ewing. He was born in 1931 the son of Mary

:06:30. > :06:33.Martin, a Broadway star. They performed together in South Pacific

:06:33. > :06:40.and later recreated one of the numbers at a Royal Variety

:06:40. > :06:46.Performance. His first major TV role came in the

:06:46. > :06:52.comedy series, I Dream Of Jeannie it ran for four years from 1965.

:06:52. > :06:57.And while in real life he was more of a practical joker than a villain,

:06:57. > :07:01.the roguish, but charming Texan, Larry Hagman, bought more than a

:07:01. > :07:06.passing resemblance to his great screen creation, JR.
