:00:24. > :00:28.Good afternoon. The Australian media regulator, is

:00:28. > :00:32.investigating the broadcast of a prank phone call, which was made by

:00:32. > :00:35.a radio station in Sydney, to a hospital treating the Duchess of

:00:35. > :00:41.Cambridge for acute morning sickness. Jacintha Saldanha, a

:00:41. > :00:44.nurse who answered the call was found dead yesterday. The two DJs

:00:44. > :00:48.have been taken off air. There has been a tragic turn in the

:00:48. > :00:52.radio hoax on the British hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was

:00:52. > :00:57.being treated. As the news broke in Australia, the

:00:57. > :01:00.radio station responsible said it was shocked and saddened by

:01:00. > :01:03.Jacintha Saldanha's death. Mel Greig and Michael Christian,

:01:03. > :01:08.the presenters who made the call have been taken off air. The man in

:01:08. > :01:13.charge of the company that owns the radio station, 2Day FM, said that

:01:13. > :01:16.the DJs were shattered, but he said he did not think that laws had been

:01:16. > :01:21.broken. No-one could reasonably foresee

:01:21. > :01:25.what actually happened in this case it is incredibly tragic.

:01:26. > :01:29.Everyone of us are deeply saddened. We are incredibly sad for the

:01:29. > :01:33.family. The Australian media regulator has

:01:33. > :01:37.been inundated with the complaints about the call, made on Tuesday. It

:01:37. > :01:43.is now investigating. There has been pressure from politicians too.

:01:43. > :01:47.As long as there has been radios, there have been prank phone calls.

:01:47. > :01:50.I am not endorsing them, but this has led to a real tragedy.

:01:50. > :01:54.I am sure that it will send a message to the industry.

:01:54. > :01:58.In a statement, the Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge said that they

:01:58. > :02:02.were also deeply saddened by what had happened and praised the

:02:02. > :02:09.wonderful care that they received. At no stage had they complained

:02:09. > :02:11.about the hoax call. The staff had the heart felt support of the Royal

:02:11. > :02:17.couple. 46-year-old Jacintha Saldanha was a

:02:17. > :02:21.mother of two who worked as a duty nurse at the King Edward VII

:02:21. > :02:24.Hospital in Central London. Described by her family as beloved,

:02:24. > :02:28.the hospital said she was a dedicated nurse.

:02:28. > :02:32.The police inquiry is to look at what happened when Jacintha

:02:32. > :02:35.Saldanha took the hoax call and what happened after that. It is

:02:36. > :02:38.understood that no disciplinary action was taken against the nurse.

:02:39. > :02:45.The hospital say it is was trying to support her through a difficult

:02:46. > :02:48.time. The police in Northern Ireland are

:02:48. > :02:53.appealing for calm after more violent protests last knight

:02:53. > :03:01.against the decision to stop flying the Union flag every day at Belfast

:03:01. > :03:04.City Hall. They say that loyalist par mill tearis are orchestrating

:03:04. > :03:09.some of the trouble. Eight police officers were injured last night.

:03:09. > :03:13.12 people have been arrested. We have this report.

:03:13. > :03:17.A festive Friday night in Northern Ireland. This was Newton Abbey, to

:03:17. > :03:22.the north of Belfast, a Christmas party, marred by the violence

:03:22. > :03:27.outside. The trouble was confined to pockets like this one, not

:03:27. > :03:31.widespread, but dangerous, still. It was an utterly pointless

:03:32. > :03:36.exercise in mindless violence. It does nothing for whatever cause

:03:36. > :03:39.people claim to be supporting. It just undermines the integrity of

:03:39. > :03:44.our economy. This, in the heart of Belfast, the

:03:44. > :03:49.trouble flared when this van car eared into the loyalists protesting

:03:49. > :03:52.about restrictions on flying the Union flag at City Hall. The

:03:52. > :03:56.results felt grimly inevitable. The violence here happened a short

:03:56. > :04:00.distance from busy shops and restaurants. The police are now

:04:00. > :04:05.concern bad what may happen today, one of the busiest shopping days of

:04:05. > :04:08.the year. Beneath the flag pole, with no flag, there is unease, but

:04:08. > :04:12.the traders at the Christmas market are defind.

:04:12. > :04:15.Regardless of the events that take place on the perimeters of the

:04:15. > :04:20.market, we will continue to run with the market. We have spoken to

:04:20. > :04:24.the market traders, they are supportive of the action.

:04:24. > :04:29.police have accused loyalist particles of orchestrating some of

:04:29. > :04:32.the violence. Senior -- particularlys, senior officers are

:04:32. > :04:36.urging for calm. The next few hours will be a test of peace in Northern

:04:36. > :04:40.Ireland. The Foreign Secretary, William

:04:40. > :04:44.Hague, says that there is credible evidence that Syria may be

:04:44. > :04:47.preparing to use its chemical weapons against the rebels fighting

:04:48. > :04:51.Bashar al-Assad. William Hague repeated the warning given this

:04:51. > :04:55.week by President Obama, that any use of chemical weapons would

:04:55. > :05:00.provoke a serious response. A High Court judge has postponed a

:05:00. > :05:03.decision on whether or not a mother should be allowed to prevent her

:05:03. > :05:06.son being given radiotherapy treatment for brain cancer.

:05:06. > :05:10.Jacintha Saldanha told the hearing she feared that the treatment would

:05:11. > :05:14.cause her son, Neon, long-term brain damage, but the doctors say

:05:14. > :05:19.that Neon could die without the treatment.

:05:19. > :05:24.Let's go live to our correspondent Ben Ando. Ben, what happened this

:05:24. > :05:28.morning? It was a year ago that an operation was carried out and a

:05:28. > :05:33.tumour removed from the brain of Neon. After that, the doctors

:05:33. > :05:39.wanted him to undergo a process of radio they werey, but Sally did not

:05:39. > :05:46.agree with that. Wishing him to have chemotherapy, but not radio

:05:46. > :05:51.they werey. That could harm him and possibly render him infertile, but

:05:51. > :05:54.the hospital have obtained a court order forcing him to undergo the

:05:54. > :05:58.treatment. Last week Jacintha Saldanha went into hiding with her

:05:58. > :06:04.son. They were located after reporting restrictions were lifted.

:06:04. > :06:07.The judge said he had intended to make a ruling on whether the child

:06:07. > :06:11.should receive the treatment, but that changes now make that no

:06:11. > :06:17.longer necessary. That nature is no respecter of court timings. It is

:06:17. > :06:20.not clear what has changed. There were suggests that ongoing scans on

:06:20. > :06:25.Neon may have something to do with that, but now there will be a
