:00:09. > :00:15.More calls for calm in Belfast. Politicians say they are not giving

:00:15. > :00:19.up in the face of protests about the Union flag.

:00:19. > :00:23.1,000 people attend a rally for peace, demanding an end to the

:00:23. > :00:32.weeks of violence. An eight-year- old British girl is shot dead while

:00:32. > :00:42.on holiday with her family in Jamaica. Former Egyptian President,

:00:42. > :00:44.

:00:44. > :00:54.And it's Van Persie again, as Manchester United maintain their

:00:54. > :01:04.

:01:04. > :01:08.lead at the top of the Premier Hello. About 1,000 people have

:01:08. > :01:11.attended a peace rally in Belfast n opposition to the continuing

:01:11. > :01:17.violence about the city council's decision to restrict the flying of

:01:17. > :01:20.the Union flag. It comes after 29 police officers were injured when

:01:20. > :01:23.nationalists clashed with loyalists returning from a demonstration last

:01:23. > :01:28.night. Northern Ireland's First Minister has insisted to the

:01:28. > :01:36.political process is the only way forward. Sinn Fein's President,

:01:36. > :01:40.Gerry Adams, says the council's decision must be respected.

:01:40. > :01:44.In one small corner of Belfast this morning, evidence of last night's

:01:44. > :01:49.rioting, including damaged houses in the Catholic Short Strand area.

:01:49. > :01:54.In the city centre, a peace rally outside Belfast City Hall. It was

:01:54. > :01:58.the council's decision last month to fly the Union flag here only on

:01:58. > :02:02.limited days each year which provoked an angry response from

:02:02. > :02:06.some loyalists. The resulting violence has dismayed these people.

:02:06. > :02:10.The majority of people in Northern Ireland think it is shameful.

:02:10. > :02:14.Hopefully, after today, people all over the UK will see that. I came

:02:14. > :02:20.along because we want to show the world it is not two communities, it

:02:20. > :02:24.is one community, with people who are causing trouble on the fringes.

:02:24. > :02:30.It is decimating the economy and tourism as well. I am here to show

:02:30. > :02:34.support for a peaceful solution. Yesterday's violence left more than

:02:34. > :02:38.two dozen police officers injured, as loyalists, who had been

:02:38. > :02:42.demonstrating at city hall, walked past the Short Strand. Both sides

:02:42. > :02:46.blame the other for starting it. Gerry Adams, in the Short Strand

:02:46. > :02:51.today, criticised the police for failing to anticipate what he

:02:51. > :02:56.claimed was deliberate violence. People should not think that the

:02:56. > :03:01.peace process is in jeopardy. It should never be taken for granted.

:03:01. > :03:10.It is irreversible. We will not let a small minority bring us back to

:03:10. > :03:14.the bad old days. The flag in Belfast City Council will not go up

:03:14. > :03:16.because somebody throws a petrol bomb at a policeman. The only way

:03:17. > :03:23.forward is through the political process. We are trying to encourage

:03:23. > :03:27.people to engage in that. Belfast city centre traders say

:03:28. > :03:32.business has suffered. Mainstream politicians are struggling to find

:03:32. > :03:38.the right response. Working class Protestants used to be among core

:03:38. > :03:46.supporters, but many are jobless thanks to the decline of heavy

:03:46. > :03:56.industry. They feel alienated by a process they say benefits Catholics

:03:56. > :03:56.

:03:56. > :04:03.and deprives them of their British iddentiti. The DUP, they say, has

:04:03. > :04:08.defied them. The Anglo-Irish agreement. The no-campaign and now

:04:08. > :04:11.the people again - it's all change. Persuading disenchanted loyalists

:04:11. > :04:17.that the traditional parties do have something to offer them may

:04:17. > :04:22.prove a challenge. An eight-year-old British girl has

:04:22. > :04:28.been shot dead while on holiday in Jamaica. Imani Green, from South

:04:28. > :04:32.London, was in a shop in Duncans, a small town on the north coast when

:04:32. > :04:41.a man walked in and opened fire. The head teacher of her school

:04:41. > :04:45.described her as a happy, playful and popular girl.

:04:45. > :04:50.Green was staying in Jamaica with her family. She was shot and killed

:04:50. > :04:58.when a gunman approached a cafe owned by her cousin and opened fire.

:04:58. > :05:02.We heard the gunshot and we ran outside. We started to call Imani.

:05:02. > :05:08.I picked her up off the ground and I realised she was still breathing.

:05:08. > :05:12.I just flagged down one of the cars out there and they drove us to the

:05:12. > :05:16.hospital. Local police say the shooting may have been some kind of

:05:16. > :05:20.revenge attack. No-one has been arrested. It happened in Duncans, a

:05:21. > :05:25.town on the northern coast. It is described as a sleepy back-water.

:05:25. > :05:29.At her home in South London, neighbours said distraught family

:05:29. > :05:33.members had flown out to Jamaica. She attended this primary school

:05:33. > :05:38.nearby. In a statement, the school said that she was a happy and

:05:38. > :05:41.playful child, who was popular with staff and other pupils. It said she

:05:41. > :05:44.suffered from sickle cell anaemia and had been given special

:05:44. > :05:50.permission to travel to Jamaica to benefit from the warmer climate.

:05:50. > :05:54.The school says it is now in the process of contacting the families

:05:54. > :06:00.of other families in her year to tell them of her death and offer

:06:00. > :06:04.them any support they might need. Well, our reporter in Jamaica joins

:06:04. > :06:10.me from quite close to where that shooting happened. And Nick, what

:06:10. > :06:15.are the police saying about any progress in their investigation?

:06:15. > :06:21.The police are staying tight-lipped in response to any motive. Locally

:06:21. > :06:26.people are talking about it. Many don't want to give names, as such,

:06:26. > :06:30.because they are scared of reprisals. They say that something

:06:30. > :06:36.happened - there was a feud locally and a man was being hunted for by a

:06:36. > :06:42.gunman. He came in, didn't know who his target was and didn't want to

:06:42. > :06:46.leave anyone as a witness. Opened fire. As we know, he hit the little

:06:47. > :06:53.girl. Everything in that community are related. They are taking it

:06:53. > :06:58.very, very hard. Thank you. And a man has been charged here

:06:58. > :07:02.with murdering two Big Issue sellers in Birmingham. 32-year-old

:07:02. > :07:08.Wayne Lee Busst, seen here on the left and 31-year-old Ian Watson

:07:08. > :07:12.Gladwish were both killed in the city centre on Friday evening.

:07:12. > :07:15.An Egyptian court has ordered a retrial of the former President,

:07:15. > :07:19.Hosni Mubarak. He won an appeal against the life sentence imposed

:07:19. > :07:28.on him in June for failing to prevent the killing of hundreds of

:07:28. > :07:36.demonstrators during the revolts that forced him from power.

:07:36. > :07:42.It was the briefest of statements from the judge.

:07:42. > :07:47.It was one that led to rapture among Mubarak's supporters in the

:07:47. > :07:51.courthouse. The former President's appeal was

:07:51. > :07:56.accepted and his entire trial will be conducted all over again.

:07:56. > :08:00.TRANSLATION: Thanks to God, our President is innocent. On what

:08:00. > :08:08.justification are they jailing him? If that is the case, we might as

:08:08. > :08:11.well jail the Supreme Court of Armed Forces and mercy.

:08:11. > :08:16.TRANSLATION: There was nothing to prove he killed the protestors. It

:08:16. > :08:20.was the fact he did not kill them. Egyptians could hardly believe

:08:20. > :08:25.their eyes in 2011 when the man who looked untouchable for 30 years

:08:25. > :08:30.appeared in court. For his parts in the deaths of over 800 protestors

:08:30. > :08:34.during the uprising. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.

:08:34. > :08:38.For the moment he is here - ill health meant a recent move from

:08:38. > :08:44.jail. More supporters gathered outside, some saying they were

:08:44. > :08:49.waiting to welcome his release. There is the potential a retrial

:08:49. > :08:54.could backfire. This woman certainly hopes so. Her son was

:08:54. > :09:00.shot dead by Mubarak's forces early on in the revolution, on his 26th

:09:00. > :09:06.birthday. I want his sons to be executed, she

:09:06. > :09:09.says, so he feels how we did when our children died. I want him to

:09:09. > :09:13.hang. God willing, that will be his sentence this time. There is the

:09:13. > :09:23.risk of a different outcome. This is still a country where

:09:23. > :09:39.

:09:39. > :09:44.people feel they don't get justice. The company which is owned by

:09:44. > :09:51.yaind's Tata Group had a record year in 2012. Its plant already

:09:51. > :09:54.employs 6,000 people, producing the Range Rover Discovery and Defender

:09:54. > :09:59.models. Ed Miliband has warned the Prime Minister that it is the wrong

:09:59. > :10:03.time to call for a referendum on Britain's relationship with the EU.

:10:03. > :10:07.Members of Mr Cameron's party are pushing for him to bring back more

:10:08. > :10:11.powers from Brussels. Let's get more on this from our political

:10:11. > :10:14.correspondent at Westminster. More pressure on the Prime Minister then

:10:14. > :10:20.in advance of his speech about Europe? Yes. As you said, Ed

:10:20. > :10:24.Miliband is making it clear, he believes any talk of a referendum

:10:24. > :10:31.now is a distraction from economic problems. I think David Cameron

:10:31. > :10:34.will pay more attention to a group of Conservative MPs who will set

:10:34. > :10:38.out what powers they believe should be brought back to Britain from

:10:38. > :10:42.Brussels. Like David Cameron, these MPs don't want to leave the EU.

:10:42. > :10:45.There is a danger by setting out the powers they want to renegotiate.

:10:45. > :10:50.If he fails to do so, then I think the smaller number of Conservative

:10:50. > :10:55.MPs who want Britain to leave the EU entirely will be given a boost.

:10:55. > :11:00.It may be a gift to UKIP, who argue there is no middle way, you are

:11:00. > :11:03.either in or you are out. There are other European matters on the radar

:11:03. > :11:08.tonight as well. A few difficulties for the Communities Secretary?

:11:08. > :11:15.is right. A year from now, it will no longer be possible for the

:11:15. > :11:21.Government to limit the number of migrant workers. Mr Pickles asked

:11:21. > :11:29.if he can give us an estimate of how many would come. He said he did

:11:29. > :11:35.not want to trigger a scare story. He said new migrants would bring

:11:35. > :11:39.new pressures. Housing shortage - any influx from Romania and

:11:39. > :11:48.Bulgaria is going to cause problems. It will cause problems not just in

:11:48. > :11:51.terms of the housing market, but also on social housing. It is

:11:51. > :11:54.interesting that his reluctance to discuss the number of migrants who

:11:54. > :11:58.will come here highlights the feeling around Whitehall that

:11:58. > :12:03.issues around immigration should be marked, "Handle with care."

:12:03. > :12:07.Thank you. Six men have been arrested in

:12:07. > :12:12.northern India in connection with another case of gang rape. Police

:12:12. > :12:16.say a 29-year-old woman was abducted from a bus near the

:12:16. > :12:22.northern western city of Amritsar. The rape and murder of a 23-year-

:12:22. > :12:26.old woman in Delhi last month has caused a national outcry.

:12:26. > :12:30.An RAF transport plane has landed in France to help with the

:12:30. > :12:34.country's military operations in Mali. It is the first of two

:12:34. > :12:38.British aircraft which will transport troops and equipment to

:12:38. > :12:43.the state. France is engaged in fierce fighting against Al-Qaeda

:12:43. > :12:51.militants in the north of the country.

:12:51. > :12:55.Britain's involvement in the crisis in Mali began today. A C17 military

:12:55. > :13:00.transport plane flying to France to pick up equipment for French trooms

:13:00. > :13:03.fighting Islam -- troops fighting Islamist rebels. The Government

:13:03. > :13:10.here insisting this is part of a very limited mission.

:13:10. > :13:16.The Prime Minister has made very clear that we will be providing two

:13:16. > :13:22.C17 planes in a support role. He has made very clear that there'll

:13:22. > :13:25.be no combat troops on the ground at all. We have no plans to provide

:13:26. > :13:31.further assistance over and above that which has already been

:13:31. > :13:36.announced. But diplomats clearly felt they needed to respond

:13:36. > :13:40.urgently to France's request for support. Britain, France and other

:13:40. > :13:44.countries have been alarmed by recent advances by the Islamist

:13:44. > :13:51.rebels in Mali, moving from their strongholds in the north towards

:13:51. > :13:56.the capital, to take control of the whole country. The Islamist groups

:13:56. > :14:04.who control much of northern Mali have links with Al-Qaeda. Britain

:14:04. > :14:08.and France say they are a threat to international security. So now, the

:14:08. > :14:13.international community is intervening. France taking the lead,

:14:13. > :14:18.sending hundreds of troops to Mali to support the Government forces.

:14:18. > :14:22.French fighter aircraft are also in action, bombing rebel positions.

:14:22. > :14:29.The overall goal, to stop the Islamists taking control of the

:14:29. > :14:34.country. Let's catch up with all the day's

:14:34. > :14:39.sports news, which comes tonight from the Sports Centre. Thank you.

:14:39. > :14:43.It has been a dramatic afternoon in the Premier League with the two top

:14:43. > :14:53.sides, Manchester United and Manchester City in action. United

:14:53. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :14:57.beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford. It is one of sport's spiciest

:14:57. > :15:00.rivalries. The last time Liverpool visiting Manchester United it was

:15:00. > :15:03.about Luis Suarez snubbing a handshake. This time though a

:15:03. > :15:08.different striker set about grabbing the headlines. Robin Van

:15:08. > :15:12.Persie has been A united star of the season. And this is why. He

:15:12. > :15:20.could have had even more to celebrate. His back heal scrambled

:15:20. > :15:26.off the line. After the break, United's dominance reaped rewards.

:15:27. > :15:30.Evra's header - game surely over. Not so. Liverpool's third new

:15:30. > :15:37.signing, Daniel Sturridge pounced and they were back in it. Sturridge

:15:37. > :15:44.might have snatched an equaliser. United weathered the storm.

:15:44. > :15:48.Obviously an important result for us. I think they were inspired with

:15:48. > :15:53.our goal. The supporters were given something to cheer on. They made a

:15:53. > :15:57.feast of it. So a good day for the red half of Manchester. A win which

:15:57. > :16:04.strengthens their position at the top of the table. Now it was up to

:16:04. > :16:08.their closest rivals to try and narrow the gap. Manchester City

:16:08. > :16:12.knew defeat would lead them ten points adrift.

:16:12. > :16:19.That never looked likely. Sure the resulting penalty somehow stayed

:16:19. > :16:23.out. Arsenal did not ride their luck for long. City's advantage

:16:23. > :16:30.hammered home by James Milner as the visitors took control it was 2-

:16:30. > :16:36.0 by the break. Edin Dzeko tapping home City home and dry. There was

:16:36. > :16:42.some late drama. The captain was sent off. A hefty blow for the

:16:42. > :16:48.visitors, but a bigger victory. Leicester drew 15-15 against

:16:48. > :16:52.Ospreys. That leaves them needing to beat Toulouse next weekend to

:16:52. > :16:54.guarantee qualification to the quarter-finals. Ospreys are out of

:16:54. > :17:03.the European competition as are Edinburgh, who were defeated by

:17:03. > :17:09.Munster. Rivalry is always intense.

:17:09. > :17:12.It just takes it up a notch. Ospreys needed a win to stay in the

:17:12. > :17:16.competition. Biggar couldn't have come closer,

:17:16. > :17:21.twice hitting the frame, as Leicester could not deal with the

:17:21. > :17:28.constant press shush. The Welsh side were rewarded for their super

:17:28. > :17:32.or ritty, with a try of real quality. The handling was as good

:17:32. > :17:36.in the stands. Leicester started to turn things

:17:36. > :17:42.around. Two late tries looked to have handed them the victory. They

:17:42. > :17:46.did not count on Walker. The 20- year-old used local knowledge to

:17:46. > :17:50.weave his way through the defence, before setting up a great finish.

:17:50. > :17:56.Biggar could have won the game, but his luck with the boot didn't

:17:56. > :18:00.change. Ospreys out, Leicester need to beat Toulouse next week to

:18:00. > :18:04.guarantee qualification. Edinburgh have blown cold in this competition,

:18:04. > :18:09.which was reflected in the small crowd against Munster. They saw

:18:09. > :18:17.them lose their fifth game in a row. It was not pretty or entertaining.

:18:17. > :18:24.It improved the two-times champion's chances of reaching the

:18:24. > :18:27.knock-out stages. Neil Robertson was forced to fight back, winning

:18:27. > :18:32.6-5 against Ding Junhui in the master's tournament in London.

:18:32. > :18:38.He won the deciding frame with a shot and a 90-break. Robertson is

:18:38. > :18:42.attempting to become the fourth player to win back to back Masters'
